BUTLER COUNTY'S EIGHTY YEARS BIOS
CALVIN D. FISK
(Transcribed by Peggy Luce)
Calvin D. Fisk was a true gentleman. He was virtuous and upright, mild in his manner, a loyal citizen and a true neighbor and friend. He had lived in this town for thirty-five years. He had been successful in business, and it was an earned success, fairly and honestly made. He was a musician who spread his musical sweetness along lifes way making that road more pleasant and bearable for others. He was long identified with musical organizations here, having toiled through many discouragements as director of the band but always succeeding in fusing his interest and enthusiasm for things musical into others. He influenced hundreds of boys not primarily toward a musical career, but adding musical accomplishment to their activities and thus broadening and enriching their lives. If ever a man spread joy as he went along, modestly and quietly, it was Cal Fisk. Today he lies dead in the town that loved and honored him. His harp is silent but the poignant notes of it will echo and re-echo in the memories of those to whom he brought joy and pleasure in abundance through his lifetime. July 14, 1934.
