BUTLER COUNTY'S EIGHTY YEARS BIOS

LEONARD HARSH

(Transcribed by Peggy Luce)

Another link of Butler County’s connection with the epic past was snapped in the death of Leonard Harsh. For fifty-three years, he had lived in Sycamore Township and during that period his name has been written indelibly into the history of this part of Kansas. The men who wrested a livelihood and built up modest fortunes in the cattle business the past half-century were hardy. This line of endeavor called for the strongest and the most industrious. “Len” Harsh was one of those who won through to success. ** His busy hands found time for many constructive enterprises. He was a firm friend to Cassoday. The Santa Fe finally linked Cassoday with the outside world, but it had been on the map and a few men like “Len” Harsh had put it there. When the final scroll of the records of the Kingdom of Butler is made up, it will have to contain some golden paragraphs to the memories of Leonard Harsh and his kind. – June 1926.
