BUTLER COUNTY'S EIGHTY YEARS BIOS
ABRAHAM JAMES HOLDERMAN
(Transcribed by Peggy Luce)
Our Thanks To Ex-Mayor Jim
Well, Jim Holderman is free today.
He relinquished the gavel as mayor of the municipality last night, thereby finishing up six years in that office, and there was more than a trifle of a suspicion of jazz in the gait of this usually staid citizen as he plodded homeward.
El Dorado has drafted A. J. Holderman for public office a number of times. His first experience as mayor was between the years of 1903 and 1907. When he left office that time, he supposed he had served his turn. But two years ago, the town insisted upon having him again, and he assumed the responsibility and did a good job. He has been impressed into service on the school board and in other public jobs. Altogether, he has served seventeen years on the city council and commission and on the school board.
Seventeen years in public office, seventeen years of a good mans life, and he never sought a public job. This is a fine example for the boys and girls who are just starting along lifes way. The jobs came to Jim Holderman because he was square, because he was honest and loyal and because he always did his best.
Jim Holdermans record as a public official probably exceeds that of any other citizen in El Dorado. The next time you meet this good neighbor and good citizen, take him by the hand and thank him for the service he has rendered your town. He has merited your respect and gratitude and he deserves your praise. April 20, 1921
