BUTLER COUNTY'S EIGHTY YEARS BIOS

JONATHAN LINDLEY

(Transcribed by Lori DeWinkler)

WONDROUS STORY OF TWO LIVES

Ponder for a moment the biggest news event in Butler County this year—the seventieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Lindley, celebrated east of El Dorado. What a beautiful event it was—two gentle souls, each over 90 years of age, permitted by the grace of God to enjoy each other’s unbroken companionship for nearly three-quarters of a century. What a romantic epic their lives together have been! Despite the hardships they endured as the common lot of those brave pioneers who wrested a glorious civilization from the wilderness, there is little in their simple annals to attract the blood-and-thunder novelist of the present. Yet to those who perceive in two beautiful lives that have flowed on together for seventy years the peace and complacency and hidden power of a great stream, are revealed all the elements of a wondrous story that has significance and attraction for every person.—March 6, 1923.
