BUTLER COUNTY'S EIGHTY YEARS BIOS
TIM MANNION
(Transcribed by Lori DeWinkler)
So Tim Mannion is gone. Its going to be hard to get along without the daily presence of this kindly, shrewd and energetic old friend. He was one of those extremely lovable characters that the oil fields have turned out from their school of hard knocks. His world was bound by a network of pipelines; it was his job to get the oil from the wells to marketand he could do it better than most of that select fraternity of pipeline managers. Tim Mannion, leading a gang of men, could get more pipe laid in a day than anybody who ever came down the Kansas oil field trail. He could jam more oil through lines of given capacity in a day or a week or a month than any other manager in the business. Tim took the oil from flush fields and got it to the refinerysome way. Lines may have jammed and broken for others, but Tim had his own way of keeping them going. It was a skillful way, an effective wayand so he made himself invaluable to his employers. Withal he was serene and calm and quiet. He carried his load without complaint and with little of the fuss and flurry commonly associated with directors of large enterprises. He was a firm friend to the oil field men of all ranks, and his fellowship was highly prized. Tim MannionGod bless himwas a mans man in all dimensions, with true Irish grace and charm. There will be none to take his place. May his soul rest in peace.December 27, 1932.
