BUTLER COUNTY'S EIGHTY YEARS BIOS

HECTOR SINCLAIR

(Transcribed by Peggy Luce)

Hector Sinclair, who died here yesterday after a residence in this town of nearly fifty years, possessed a marvelous gift. It was his talent to carve beauty and symmetry out of rough blocks of marble or granite, and he employed it effectively. Creations of tender sentiment and lofty concepts sprang into being by reason of his patient and skillful handicraft. It was given to him to create objects that will live long after him; his work was enduring and many of the monuments that came from his honest hands, inspired by a noble mind, will last for generations. But he needs no monument to perpetuate a tender memory. His life was that monument and because of the sturdy integrity he exercised in all his relationships his name will be held in loving esteem for countless years to come. He served usefully and well; he was a master workman; his plumb line dropped true and his square always trued with his own upright life. May he rest in peace at the end of the long, long journey – June 7, 1934.
