The Charles E. Eckel Family to Meet for 50th Anniversary Fete

Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Eckel, Route one, Leon are planning a three day celebration August 18, 19, and 20 - in observance of the 50th anniversary of their marriage.

The momentous milestone will be observed as a family occasion, with the seven children and many of the grandchildren to gather at the Eckels family home. The observance is planned ten days in advance of the actual date - August 28 - to permit full attendance of members of the family.

On their 45th anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Eckel were honored with an open house reception, an event which brought great pleasure to them.

In recalling events of their wedding day in 1913, "a drought year," Mrs. Eckel - the former Grace Morgan - remarked that her wedding dress of white crepe was trimmed with lace sent from India by her sister, now the late Miss Cora Morgan.

The marriage was performed on the front porch of the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Morgan, seven miles south of El Dorado. Approximately 100 guests attended.

Mrs. Eckel was born at the home of her parents in Spring township - in the house in which she was married. Mr. Eckel was born in El Dorado. Both Mr. and Mrs. Eckel graduated from Leon High School, as did each of their seven children.

Mrs. Eckel, a graduate of Southwestern College at Winfield, taught in several Butler County rural schools before going to Superior, Wyoming, where she taught for two additional years.

Mr. Eckel has devoted his efforts to farming with marked success, and now is semi-retired. Mr. and Mrs. Eckel customarily spend three or four of the winter months at LaMesa, Calif.

Opening event of the three-day observance will be a family dinner - turkey and all the fixin's - at the Eckel family home on Sunday, August 18. The following day the family will have dinner at the Meranda restaurant in El Dorado. On Monday evening, the entire family will go to the Bradford Eckel home at Clearwater to remain for two nights and one day.

The family group includes Mrs. Ruth Chandler, of Los Gatos, Calif., who has three sons, Robert, Bradford, and Jon; Mr. and Mrs. Bradford Eckel, Kurt, Diane and Kristine, of Clearwater, Dr. and Mrs. Howard Eckel and Patty of Lincoln, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. George Eckel, Maria, Mark and Trent; Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Eckel, Lynn, Bruce and Todd and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith, David, Gary, Jill all of LaMesa, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Eckel and Lee, of Kansas City, Kansas.

There are five granddaughters, and 13 grandsons, youngest of the clan are a great-granddaughter, Mike Chandler, a great grandson, Casey Chandler, the children of Robert Chandler.

Those who will be unable to attend the celebration are Mrs. George Eckel and Maria, and Richard Eckel of Estes Park, Colo., the son of Howard Eckel. (El Dorado Times, August 15, 1963)

THE C. E. ECKELS IN GOLDEN YEAR ANNIVERARY FETE

A family occasion long to be remembered was the three-day gathering of members of the Eckel family - August 18, 19 and 20 in observance of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Eckel, Route 1, Leon.

A family group of 27 persons shared the event, and only six were absent. Mr. and Mrs. Eckel are the parents of five sons and two daughters. There are 13 grandsons, and five grand daughters, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

The three-day observance opened with a family dinner on August 18 at the Eckel home. Torrential rain in no way marred the pleasure of the occasion. The next day, the family shared a dinner at the Meranda restaurant in El Dorado and on Monday evening, the group went to the Bradford Eckel home at Clearwater to remain for two nights and one day.

Mr. and Mrs. Eckel were married on August 28, 1913 at the Spring township home of her parents, now the late Mr. and Mrs. H. c. Morgan. The celebration this year was held in advance of the anniversary date to permit the fullest possible attendance of the family.

Absent were Mrs. George Eckel, a daughter-in-law and five grandchildren, Marla Eckel, Robert Chandler, Bradford Chandler, John Chandler, and Richard Eckel.

Mrs. Eckel was born at the home of her parents - the house in which she was married. Mr. Eckel was born in El Dorado. Both Mr. and Mrs. Eckel graduated from Leon high school, as did each of their seven children.

A bit of tradition cherished in the family is that each of the Eckel sons wore the same suit for graduation from high school.

Mr. and Mrs. Eckel are immensely popular with their neighbors and other friends and they received an abundance of congratulatory greetings and good wishes on their golden anniversary. They were honored at an open house reception on the 45th anniversary of their marriage. (El Dorado Times, Aug. 29, 1963)
