HISTORY
"Returning to our roots"

Federated Church received its name because it is a "federation" of three churches: Grace Evangelical (1888), Evangelical Lutheran Church (1881), and the Christian Church. These churches came together in 1925 out of a sense of cooperation and shared mission, realizing that they would be able to do the Lord's work better together than apart.

The present sanctuary at 207 East Central in Whitewater was built in 1929-1930. For generations the bell has called people to worship God on Sunday mornings. Federated Church has roots in the 19th century, has lived most of its life in this community in the 20th century and eagerly looks forward to what God has in store for it in the 21st century!

Federal carries the same spirit of Christian cooperation that helped form it many years ago. Members came from a variety of backgrounds: Baptist, Catholic, Quaker, Methodist, Mennonite, etc.

In November 2005 the Federated Church left the United Church of Christ and became an independent church. We have returned to our roots of believing the Bible to be the inerrant, infallible word of God. Also that Jesus Christ is the only son of God and that acquiring eternal life can only be found in Jesus. Also, that eternal life is not obtained through any good works or good deeds, but only by grace through faith in Jesus.

As did Jesus, we welcome the wounded and broken hearted. It is our desire to be a light in a dark and hurting world and an agent of healing, unity, love and cooperation in the community.

We have Sunday School at 9:30 AM and Worship Service at 10:45 AM each Sunday.
Rev. David Griffis is our pastor.
