Charles N. White was called to Ellsworth Wednesday evening where Mrs. White has been the past two weeks, and news has been received from them today of the death yesterday morning of Mrs. White's father, R. L. GAMBLE, SUSAN

Mrs. Susan Gamble, 83, died at her home in Wichita Friday night, May 26, following an illness of eleven weeks. Mrs. Gamble was well known in El Dorado coming to Butler County in 1880, and residing here until 12 years ago when she moved to Wichita.

Susan J. Harshman was born May 1, 1850 in Coss County, Michigan, and was married to B. C. Gamble in 1872. She had taught school in Michigan and Indiana before her marriage. Mr. Gamble died on October 29, 1916.

Mrs. Gamble is survived by two sons, M. T. and Charles Gamble of El Dorado; four daughters, Mrs. G. V. Maxwell of Potwin, Mrs. Nora G. Shoots of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Mrs. J. H. McDowell of Camas, Wash., Mrs. Robert Bals of Douglass, three sisters, Mrs. W. B. Thompson of El Dorado, Mrs. E. N. Thomas of Pasadena, Calif., and Miss Ida Harshman of Wichita, three brothers, J. N. Harshman of El Dorado, Weaver Harshman of Blackwell, Okla., and Taylor Harshman of Frankfort, Ind.; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at the Byrd Funeral Home Sunday afternoon. The Rev. R. L. Cortner, pastor of the United Brethren Church of Wichita of which Mrs. Gamble was a member, officiated. The Price Brothers quartet of the church sang.

Pallbearers were C. R. Nuttle, Frank Williams, T. A. Rutherford, J. H. Sandifer, Grant Kennedy of El Dorado and Charles Wright of Wichita. Interment was made in West Cemetery. (Butler County News, Friday, June 2, 1933)

GASKINS, MRS. W. D.

Mrs. W. D. Gaskins of Wichita, died in Towanda early this morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. R. Green. She was 66 years old and although she had been in ill health for the past seven months her death was unexpected.

Mrs. Gaskins went to Towanda only a week ago where she planned to make her home with her sister. She had been a resident of Wichita for nine years and previous to that time had traveled extensively with Mr. Gaskins.

She was born on April 17, 1867, near Fort Wayne, Ind., but when three years old removed to Kansas with her parents who settled near Towanda. She was married in El Dorado but Mr. Gaskins died in August, 1921. Mrs. Gaskins was a member of the Baptist Church here and of the Eastern Star Lodge.

Mrs. Green is the only immediate member of the family who survives. Judge V. P. Monney of El Dorado is a brother-in-law to Mrs. Gaskins. Funeral services will be announced through the Byrd Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times, Monday, May 8, 1933)

GIBSON, JEANETTA MAE (MAUS)

Jeanetta Mae (Maus) Gibson was born July 9, 1925, in Oil Hill, Kansas, the daughter of John and Pearl Christine (Bailey) Maus. Jeanettta passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, having reached the age of 81 years, 9 months and 5 days. She was united in marriage to Willard Gibson on July 29, 1946, in El Dorado, Kansas. They were able to celebrate 60 years of marriage together. She had made her home in Oklahoma City for the past few years living previously in El Dorado for many years. Jeanetta was a homemaker and had also worked as a secretary at Skelly School for several years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a long time member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. Those she leaves including her husband Willard of the home are two sons, Roger Gibson of Rockwell, Texas, Randy Gibson of Manor, Texas; two daughters, Kathy Lange of St. Louis, Missouri, Janet Waswo of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Larry Maus of El Dorado, Bill Maus of Oklahoma City; a sister, Janey Hickman of Brownwood Texas; six grandchildren, Jeff Lippert of Apopka, Florida, Kristin Gibson of Tucson, Arizona, Hal and Adam Lange of St. Louis, Missouri, Eva and Lily Waswo of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Abby Lippert of Apopka, Florida also survive. GIBSON, LEWIS J. "JACK"

Lewis J. "Jack" Gipson was born May 12, 1929, in Harrison, Arkansas, the son of LeRoy and Mary J. (Sands) Gipson. Jack passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2007, in El Dorado, Kansas, having reached the age of 77 years, 11 months and 3 days. Jack lived in El Dorado since 1944 and graduated from El Dorado High School with the class of 1948. He was united in marriage to Barbara Blankenship in El Dorado. They were able to celebrate 56 years of marriage together. Jack was a member of First Christian Church in El Dorado. Those he leaves including his wife of the home are a son, Jack Gipson of Kansas City, Missouri; one daughter, Rhonda Call and her husband Chuck of El Dorado; a brother, Herb Gipson of Valley Center; a sister, Eva Komer of Orrville, Ohio; two grandsons, Chris Call of El Dorado, Jonas McBride and his wife Diep of Sugar Land, Texas and a great granddaughter, Karis McBride of Houston, Texas. His parents; two brothers and one sister preceded Jack in death. (El Dorado Times, April 2007)

GILFILLAN, EMMA

Friends here of the G. I. Watson family have received word of the death yesterday at Wakeeney of Mrs. Emma Gilfillan, mother of Mr. Watson. She suffered a severe stroke several days ago. The Watsons and Mrs. Gilfillan formerly resided at El Dorado. Funeral services for Mrs. Gilfillan will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning at Wakeeney. The body will be taken to Beloit for burial. Mrs. Emma J. Gilfillan was born in LaCrosse County, Wisc., on August 19, 1854 and died at Wakeeney, on August 20, at the age of 79 years.

She was educated at Galesburg, Wisc., and taught in the same school for three years. She ended her teaching career to marry George W. Gilfillan which event occurred in 1878. With her husband she removed to Beloit where she resided until 1908 when she moved to Burns. In 1917 she removed to El Dorado where she established her residence to be near her daughter, Mrs. G. I. Watson.

Mrs. Gilfillan was a kind, loving and devoted wife and mother and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She had been a faithful member of the church since childhood and had taught adult classes in the Sunday Schools at Beloit, Burns and El Dorado.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. G. I. Watson of Wakeeney, Reid G. Gilfillan of Pomona, Calif., and Dr. Harold Gilfillan, of Peabody; three granddaughters, Mrs. Lawrence Hall of Manhattan, Mrs. Edgar Templeton and Miss Doris Watson of Wakeeney; and a great-grandson, John Watson Hall. Her husband died 34 years ago. Mrs. Gilfillan was buried in the family lot at Beloit. (El Dorado Times, Mon. August 28, 1933)

GNAGEY, HARVEY M.

Harvey M. Gnagey, a resident of El Dorado for the past 16 years died at his home, 513 North Gordy Street, late last night. He was 69 years old and had been ill for five weeks.

Funeral services will be held at the Byrd Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. E. McFarlane, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be made in West Cemetery.

Mr. Gnagey was a retired farmer and before coming to El Dorado he had resided in Wilsey and in Davenport, Neb. He was born at Garrett, Pa., on January 22, 1864, and on November 16, 1834, was married to Miss Priscilla E. Sanner at Meyersdale, Pa. He was a member of the Old Conservative Dunkard Church.

Mr. Gnagey is survived by his widow; six daughters, Mrs. R. B. Coffin, of Washington Kan., Mrs. C. A. Stevenson of Ono, Calif., Mrs. J. F. Hardesty of Salina, Mrs. Emma Hanson of Hutchinson, Mrs. C. H. Young, of Cottonwood Falls, and Mrs. A. B. Johndrow of Grove, Okla., two sons, C. t. and C. C. Gnagey, both of El Dorado, one sister, Mrs. Howard Fike, of Meyersdale, pa., a brother, Conrad Gnagey, also of Meyersdale, 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Harvey M. Gnagey, who died here Friday, were held at the Byrd Funeral Home yesterday afternoon with a large group of friends and relatives of the El Doradoan attending. Rev. E. McFarlane, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiated.

GODFREY, GEORGE

George Godfrey, 76, of Augusta, a retired self-employed landlord, died Wednesday. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Tole of Augusta, brother, Arthur Godfrey of Lakeside, Calif, a sister, Hazel Lewis of Topeka and two grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, May 9, 1985)

GORE, EARL H. MRS.

Mrs. Earl H. Gore, of Cassoday, wife of the caretaker at Fox Lake, died at her home last night after a brief illness. She was 37 years old.

Mrs. Gore had resided in Cassoday for the past six years and previous to that time had lived at Eureka and Hamilton. The Cassoday woman was well known in that community and her death comes as a shock to scores.

Mrs. Gore was born in Hamilton on July 8, 1895 and was married at Wichita on October 9, 1912. She was a member of the Christian Church at Eureka and formerly belonged to the Rebekah Lodge at Hamilton.

Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Kuhn, of Cassoday, two sons, Paul Herbert, 13 and Donald Earl 10, both at home, a brother E. L. Booth of Wichita, a sister Mrs. Don L. Fraze, of Lima, Ohio; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Booth of LaBlanca, Texas, and two grandchildren.

Frank C. Graham, 83, of Newton, a retired Santa Fe Railway employee and brother of Elizabeth Watchous of El Dorado, died Wednesday.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Draper-Cannon Funeral Home in Newton.

Other survivors include his wife, Della, daughter, Mary Howard of Newton, brother Earl of Cottonwood Falls; sisters, Dorothy Lawson of Gillette, Wyo., and Eva Kier of Winfield; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

GRAVES, ALEXANDRA (SANDY)

Alexandra (Sandy) Graves, 52, of Prairie Village, former El Dorado resident from 1971 to 1982 died Wednesday at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Episcopal Church in El Dorado. She was a regional representative in Kansas City for Senator Nancy Kassebaum and was well known in Kansas Republican party circles. She had worked for Senator Kassebaum since 1983.

Mrs. Graves had been active much of her life in civic and cultural affairs in Kansas City and had been treasurer of the Kansas City Junior League. She was a member of the Episcopal church and a graduate of the University of Missouri.

As a young woman, Mrs. Graves taught in elementary schools in Johnson County.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Roedel of El Dorado and a son, Alex Graves, of Los Angeles; her mother, Mrs. A. M. Meyer of Prairie Village; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Ware of Evergreen, Colo., Mrs. Warren Weaver of Mission Hills and a grandmother.

The family requests no flowers be sent and that contributions go to the Trinity Episcopal Church in El Dorado or to the Hospice Service in care of Mid-America, 706 West 42nd, Kansas City, Mo., 64111. GRAVES, COURTNEY E.

Courtney E. Graves, 94, of El Dorado, Graves Drug Co. founder, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 24, 1991, at his home. Services were held 2:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with burial following in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Dr. Dennis Kuder and the Rev. John Enwright officiated the services.

He was born Sept. 20, 1897, in Norton to John and Laura (Hatcher) Graves. He graduated from high school there and from the Wooster Pharmacy College in Wichita. In 1922 he moved to El Dorado where he practiced pharmacy and started Graves Drug Company. He owned and operated a number of drug stores in Kansas and Oklahoma. Presently the company owns stores in El Dorado, Winfield, Arkansas City, Emporia, and Blackwell and Ponca City in Oklahoma.

On Oct. 23, 1923, he and Ila Shaver were married in Lovewell. His memberships included First United Methodist Church, Patmos Masonic Lodge No. 97 A.F.& A.M., Wichita Consistory, Shrine Club, and the El Dorado Country Club where he had served as president.

Survivors include: wife, Ila sons, William R. of El Dorado, John C. of Wichita, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

GRAY, ALLIE MARTHA (ROPER) MILLER

Allie M. (Roper) Gray, 94, of Salina, and former Whitewater resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1988, at St. John's Hospital in Salina. She had lived in Salina for the past 12 years. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Federated Church of Whitewater; and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Gage (Okla.) Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 11, 1893 at Siloam Springs, Mo., the daughter of Joshua Rufus and Cordelia (Little) Roper. She was a member of Federated Church of Whitewater, the Federated Women's Fellowship and Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include the daughters, Elizabeth Shields of Salina, Pauline Spedding, Ledgerwood of Whitewater, Naomi Erick of Shattuck, Okla., Betty Stanford of Edmond, Okla. brothers, Vester roper of Fort Worth, Fred Roper, Virgil Roper, both of Gage, Oathel Roper of San Antonio, Texas, sisters, Edna Schroeder of Fort Worth, Winnie Welch of Crowley, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren. Services for Allie Martha (Roper) Miller Gray, 95, of Whitewater, were held Saturday, Jan. 23, 1988, at the Federated Church in Whitewater. Burial followed Jan. 24, 1988 at Gage Cemetery in Gage, Okla. She died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1988.

Pastor Dick Weaver and Pastor Joanne Broten officiated at the service. Organist was Henrietta Lockwood. Vocalist was Jack Lockwood.

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Polk of Augusta have received word concerning the death of a sister in law, Mrs. B. L. (Newk) Gray.

Mrs. Gray died Thursday at Weslaco, Texas.

GREEN, BESSIE MAY

Bessie May Green, 91 of 1408 W. Central, died early this morning at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Funeral and burial will be at Cherokee, Okla.

She was a homemaker and spent most of her life in Alfalfa County in Oklahoma. She was born June 14, 1893 in Lewisburg, Mo., the daughter of Cornealous and Cora main Rather. She came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon when she was three months old.

She was a member of the Christian Church of Cherokee, Okla., and the American Legion Auxiliary at Aline, Okla. In 1908 she married Delza Clegg who was killed in France in World War II. In 1921 she married Hyler Green at Anthony, Kan.

Surviving children include Bill Green, Willis Green, Doris Turner, and Betty Schrader all of El Dorado, Roy Clegg of Phoenix, Ariz., Hollis Clegg of Cherokee, Okla., Jack Clegg of Raytown, Mo., Garrell Green of Aline, Okla., Max Green of Pond Creek, Okla., and Juanita Phillips of Shawnee, Okla.

She is also survived by a stepson, Charles Green of Hutchinson a brother, Edmund Rather of Wichita; and a sister, LaDanta Clark, also of Wichita. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two children, one brother, one sister, one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

Goldie Arena Green, 69, Douglass, mother of Jody Vogt of Augusta, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.

Her service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Burl Allison Jr., will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

She was born Sept.1, 1915 in Maple Hill to David Sears and Almeda Sornson Conaway.

She married Leon E. Green, March 14, 1935 in Lawrence. He survives.

She was a homemaker.

GREEN, OPAL MARIE

Opal Marie Green, 86, formerly of Cassoday, died Friday evening at Wheatstate Manor Nursing Home in Whitewater. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m .Tuesday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the services in the Cassoday Cemetery.

Mrs. Green was born Dec. 20, 1898 in Kansas. On June 2, 1917 she married Holt Green in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in 1967. She had lived all of her life in the Cassoday and Butler County areas. For more than 20 years she owned and operated Opal's Lunch in Cassoday. Mrs. Green was a member of the Cassoday United Methodist Church.

Surviving family include one daughter, Ruby Louise Lawyer of Wichita, one brother, Howard Hart of Beaumont, one sister, Olive Czarnowsky of Olympia, Wash., four grandchildren, Gail Pankratz of Potwin, Marsha Lawyer of Irvine, Calif., Joan McLaughlin of Wichita and Eldon Lawyer of Memphis, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ruth D. Green, 96, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 1990. Services: 10 a.m. at Carlson's Colonial Chapel. Burial follows at the Towanda Cemetery. Ruth D. Green, 96 of El Dorado, died Thursday evening Feb. 22, 1990, at Knutson Manor Nursing Center. Service: 10 a.m. Monday, Carlson's Funeral Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Carlson's.

She was born July 25, 1893, at West Plains, Mo., the daughter of Allen T. and Margaret (Pumphrey) Lumpkins. She spent her early years in West Plains, Mo., and had lived in the Midian and El Dorado areas since 1917, moving here from Coffeyville. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.

She served as an officer of the Towanda Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, for 25 years. She studied nursing in Coffeyville.

She married Cyril L. Green at Independence, Feb. 8, 1913. He died, Nov. 8, 1968.

Survivors: five sons, Cyril L. Jr., of San Diego, Calif., J. R. of Hays, Robert M. of El Dorado, William A. of Seattle, Wash., James L. of San Antonio; two daughters, Mildred Whitson of Aurora, Colo., JaNell (Jane) Brown of Wichita; 21 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and one grandchild. (El Dorado Times, Feb. 24, 1990)

Services for Ruth D. Green, 96, of El Dorado, were held Thursday morning at Carlson's Colonial Chapel. Burial followed at Towanda Cemetery. Mrs. Green died Thursday, Feb. 22, 1990.

The Rev. Bill Bullard and the Rev. Norman Mosier officiated at the services. Mrs. Marge Marsh, at the organ, played the prelude and postlude. Mrs. Jackie Lagree sang "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Roger Green, Bill Beckley, Richard Green, Kent Brown, Craig Green and Larry Green.

GREENBANK, NADINE E.

Nadine E. Greenbank, 85, of Hutchinson, formerly of El Dorado, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 5, 1990. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado.

Mrs. Greenbank was born May 1, 1905 in Winfield to Charles E. and Sadie (Hamilton) Wallace. She graduated from Southwestern College in 1925.

On June 12, 1925, she married her college sweetheart, James William Greenbank of Little River. They made their home in Oil Hill, moving to El Dorado in 1927. Her husband founded and operated the Butler County News and later Traf-O-Teria, System Inc. until his death in 1975. She moved to Hutchinson in 1989.

Survivors include: daughters, Marilyn Reiss of Memphis, Tenn. Doris Livingston of Hutchinson, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Grant Greenbank, one sister and one brother.

Services for Nadine E. Greenbank were held Dec. 8 in First United Methodist Church with burial following in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. She died Dec. 5, 1990 in Hutchinson.

She was born May 1, 1905 in Winfield.

Dr. Dennis Kuder officiated the services. Dana Morris sang "Amazing Grace" and "The Lord's Prayer." Organist was Mrs. Marge Marsh.

Casket bearers were Harold Borger, L. U. West, John Cameron, Charles Heilmann, Greg Mathias, Page Benson and Dennis Hanson.

Ushers were Gerald Franklin and Ervin Grant.

GREGERSEN, NADINE LAVINE

Nadine Lavine (Hayes) Gregersen was born July 19, 1907, in Neosho Falls, Kansas, the daughter of Mott and Lovina Ellen (Henderson) Hayes. Nadine passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in El Dorado, Kansas, having reached the age of 99 years, 8 months and 22 days. Nadine graduated from Neosho Falls High School. She was united in marriage to Clarence "Pop" Gregersen on September 6, 1927, in Iola, Kansas. They were able to celebrate 42 years of marriage before Clarence preceded Nadine in death in October of 1969. Nadine was a member of First Christian Church and enjoyed planting gardens and making cinnamon rolls. She leaves her children and their spouses, Harry and Phyllis Gregersen of Grand Island, Nebraska; Norma Lee and Charles Maurer of Hereford, Arizona; two grandchildren, Leisa Ann Rohling of Grand Island, Nebraska, Bruce Gregersen of Loup City, Nebraska; two great grandchildren, Stasha Kathryn Rohling and Adam Christopher Rohling. Her parents and one infant grandson, Danny Joe Gregersen also preceded Nadine in death. (April 2007)

GRIFFIN, ELLA LOVANNE

Funeral services for Ella Lovanne Griffin, 5-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Griffin, Route 1, Cassoday, who died at her home Wednesday after a brief illness, were held at the home yesterday afternoon. Rev. Mr. Keyes, pastor of the Methodist Church at Cassoday, officiated.

A duet, composed of Cleda Hoy and Evelyn Crawford, sang "When He Comes," "Beautiful Beckoning Hands" and "Asleep in Jesus." Pallbearers were LeRoy dalkke, Lawrence Tire, Leon McCreight and John Hoy. GRIFFITH, GERALD V.

Canon City Colo. - Gerald v. Griffith, 88, died April 14, 1990. Service: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at the Odd fellows Chapel in Canon City, Colo.

Mr. Griffith was born Sept. 10, 1901, in the El Dorado area to Samuel and Belle Griffith.

He married Emma Unger on August 8, 1924 in El Dorado. She survives along with one daughter Dorothy Poston of Waverly; and three sons, Gene of Longmont, Colo., Tom of Whitehall, Ore., and Russell of El Dorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Griffith and brother, George Griffith.

Other survivors include his second wife, Helen of Canon City, and sister, Alice Unger of El Dorado. (El Dorado Times, April 17, 1990)

Canon City Colo. - Services for Gerald V. Griffith, 88, were held Wednesday, April 18, 1990, at the IOOF Chapel in Canon City.

Mr. Griffith died Saturday, April 14, 1990. He was born Sept. 10, 1901 at El Dorado, the son of Samuel and belle (Cronk) Griffith. He was a graduate of El Dorado High School, Emporia State Teacher's College, Pittsburg State Teacher's College.

He was retired as professor emeritis of agriculture at Southern Colorado State College, Pueblo, Colo.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, and member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include, wife, Helen, three sons, Gene Griffith of Longmont, Colo., Russell Griffith of El Dorado, Tom Griffith of Whitehall, Mont., one daughter, Dorothy Poston of Waverly; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, one sister, Alice Unger, of El Dorado.

He was preceded in death by one brother, George, and one sister, Helen. (El Dorado Times, May 2, 1990)

GRIFFITH, IONA LEE

Iona Lee Griffith, 49 of 1420 S. High died Saturday morning. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carlson's Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. She was born Nov. 7, 1935 in El Dorado, the daughter of Glenn I. And Inez Thelma Dickson Ray. She was a homemaker and had spent her entire life in this area. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church and Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS).

On September 29, 1956 she married Bill G. Griffith of El Dorado and he survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Mark of Potwin, and David of the home; three daughters, Nancy L. Braswell, Peggy Schupp and Patricia Castleman, all of El Dorado, her mother, Mrs. Inez Thelma Ray, El Dorado, a brother, LeRoy Ray of Concord, Calif., and 10 grandchildren.

Services for Iona Lee (Mrs. Bill) Griffith, 49, of 1420 S. High, who died Aug. 17, were Tuesday afternoon at Carlson's Colonial Chapel. Burial was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

The Rev. Mel Brown, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, officiated. Mrs. Jessie Winter played selected music for the prelude and postlude on the organ. Mrs. Lavonne Baker sang "Old Rugged Cross" and Just a Closer Walk With Thee."

Casket bearers were Rick Kennedy, Dwight Downs, Richard Ray, Boyd ray, Charles ray and Bobby Griffith, Jr.

GRIFFITH, JACK E.

Jack E. Griffith, Route 2, Burns, died Tuesday, April 3, 1990, at St. Luke's Hospital in Marion. Services will be announced later by Carlson's Colonial Chapel, El Dorado. (El Dorado times, April 4, 1990)

Jack E. Griffith, 62, of rural Burns, died Tuesday evening, April 3, 1990, at St. Luke's Hospital in Marion. Service 2 p.m. Friday at Carlson's Colonial Chapel, El Dorado. Burial follows at the Burns Cemetery.

Mr. Griffith was born Dec. 23, 1927, at El Dorado, the son of Elmer and Ethel (Bentley) Griffith. He was a welder for the Heckendorn Corporation for 20 years, and was presently operating a backhoe and bulldozer operation. He lived at Burns for the past 20 years, moving there from El Dorado.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of War.

He married Mary L. Oakley, June 5, 1948. She survives along with one daughter, Linda Ann Ritter of Losville, Ind., mother Ethel Mead of El Dorado; three sisters, Janet Larson of Pittsburg, Sue Easton of El Dorado, Juanita Williams of Andover, two step-brothers, Jim Mead of Prosser, Wash., Don Mead of El Dorado, two step sisters, Wanita Harms and Verna Deen Offen of El Dorado, one granddaughter, and mother-in-law Vivian Oakley of Burns.

He was preceded in death by his father, step-father, two children and a step-sister.

Services for Jack E. Griffith, 62, of Burns, were held Friday afternoon at Carlson's Colonial Chapel. Burial followed at Burns Cemetery. Mr. Griffith died Tuesday, April 3, 1990.

The Rev. Rick Harms, pastor of Prospect Baptist Church, officiated at the service. Mrs. Margie Marsh, at the organ played the prelude and the postlude. Mrs. Jackie Lagree sang "The Rose," and "Wind Beneath My Wing."

Casket bearers were Rick Kennedy, Dennis Kennedy, David Adams, Earl Winsor, Wayne Handle, Larry Bumm, and Don Conrad.

Military rites were conducted at the cemetery by American Legion Post No. 81. The flag folders were Howard Cool and Renden Eastham. The bugler was Gene Carlson.

GRIFFIN, DAWN

Dawn Griffin, 36, rural Douglass, died Thursday, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the DeVorss Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Roger Roberts will officiate. There will be a cremation.

She was born June 18, 1947 in Wichita to Earl and Mary Jantz Howard.

This homemaker is survived by her father, Earl Howard; mother, Mary Copeland and a brother Joe Stephens all of Tampa, Fla. (El Dorado times, March 23, 1984)

GRIGGS, DONALD LEE

Donald Lee Griggs, 58, of Portsmouth, Va., and a former resident of El Dorado and Wichita, died Thursday, May 24, 1990 at the Norfolk Hospital in Norfolk, Va. Service 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 at Carlson Funeral Home with burial following in Union Cemetery in rural Benton.

Mr. Griggs was born August 31, 1931, in Wichita, the son of Raymond E. and Hazel (Blaine) Griggs, Sr. He had worked for Uniflo Conveyor, Inc, in Wichita, until ill health forced him to retire. He moved from his Wichita residence of six years to Portsmouth three weeks ago. He lived in El Dorado for most of his life.

He was a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church in Wichita. He served the United States during the Korean Conflict.

He married Peggy Joan Lewis, she survives.

Other survivors include one son, Russell D. Griggs, of Portsmouth, one daughter, Michele Leigh Pehrson of Pocatello, Idaho, one brother, Raymond E. Griggs, Jr., of Leon, one sister, Joyce M. Crumrine of Wichita, and seven grandchildren. (El Dorado Times May 25, 1990)

GRIGGS, DOUGLAS RAY

Douglas Ray Griggs, 62 of El Dorado passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007 due to a six month battle with cancer. The Celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the services.

Doug was born February 15, 1945 the son of Kenneth and Evelyn (Mosier) Griggs. He was the owner and operator of R and R Sheetrock Company. For many years he sang and played guitar with local bands. Whiskey Alley and the Denim and Diamonds to were a few of the bands. He loved to watch Wrestling and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Surviving family includes his beloved Jan, sons Douglas and his wife Nina, Kenneth Griggs a daughter Heather Arnette, adopted children, Melissa Griggs, Aaron Crossfield and wife Gina, Jordan Crossfield and wife Amber; one brother Danny Griggs; nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

GRIGGS, VERNA ROSE

Verna Rose Griggs, 95, Corning, NY, sister of Jessie Davis of Douglass, died Wednesday in Corning.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglass United Methodist Church. Rev. Janet Sevier will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.

Founders Pavilion in Corning, NY, the Douglass Public Library and the United Methodist Church.

She was born Dec. 26, 1888 in Douglass to James A. and Eula Denkel Clay.

She married Jeff Griggs. He preceded her in death in 1965.

She was a retired teacher.

Mrs. Verna R. Griggs, 95, a former El Dorado resident, died Wednesday in Corning, NY. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29 at the Douglass United Methodist Church. The family is suggesting memorials to the Douglass United Methodist Church or the Founders Pavilion of Corning, NY.

Mrs. Griggs was the daughter of James A and Ula Dinkle Clay of Douglass. She taught in the elementary schools in El Dorado for many years, then in the Douglass schools until her retirement. She was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Lear, and son-in-law Homer W. Lear, of Corning, N.Y., two grandchildren, Rebecca Mikat of Clifton Park, NY and Steven Lear of Pittsburgh, Pa, five great-grandchildren, Ron Mikate, Stephanie Mikat, Rebecca Lear, Katie Lear and Ryan Lear, a sister, Mrs. Jessie Davis of Douglass, three nieces, Roberta Davies of Independence, Kan., Mrs. Charles Wiseman of Augusta and Mrs. Donald Jones of Arkansas City, a nephew Bill J. Clay of Grand Rapids, Mich., and a sister in law, Mrs. Bill Clay of Arkansas City.

Thomas Alvin Groce, 79, of Peabody, retired farmer, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1991. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Baker Funeral Home.

GROVE, CHESTER L.

Chester L. Grove, 69, of 3009 Jeanette, a retired Derby Oil Co. traffic dispatcher and father of J. D. Grove of Andover and Curtis R. Grove of Rose Hill and brother of Lester E. Grove of Douglass, died Monday. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Cochran Mortuary in Wichita.

Other survivors include his wife, Verna, sister, Jo Ann Parsons of Park City, and five grandchildren.

GRUBB, WILLIAM G.

William G. Grubb, 64, of Wilmington, Del., eldest son of Mae Grubb and brother of Carol McKenzie, both of El Dorado, died Monday night in Wilmington.

Other survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; three daughters, Billie and Rosalie of Wilmington and Kathy of Menasha, Wis., two sisters, Carol Mckenzie of El Dorado and Alice Landrum of Wichita; four brothers, Milton of Puyallup, Wash., Kenneth of Douglass, Kan., Raymond of Pasadena, Texas, and Wayne of Mena, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his father, C. L. Grubb of El Dorado.

GUDE, IRENE E.

Irene Gude, formerly of 412 N. Summit, died Monday morning at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. Services will be announced later by Carlson Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times, June 24, 1985)

Irene E. Gude, 83, of El Dorado, died Monday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 5, 1901 at Weir, Kan., the daughter of John M. and Mary E. Matthews McGraw. She was a homemaker and had lived in El Dorado since 1927, moving here from the Arma, Kan., area.

She was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Circles of the church; the El Dorado Garden Club, and had served as county chairman of the county TB Association.

On July 18, 1923, she married Arnold Gude at Carthage, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1973.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Galloway of Hutchinson, June Hightower of Mascoutah, Ill., and Joyce Frazey of Derby, one sister, Oweela McAtee of Ferndale, Mich.; and 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildre.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one grandson, two brothers, and one sister.

Services for Irene E. Gude, 83, of El Dorado, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Burial followed the services. Mrs. Gude died Monday, June 24.

GUIOU, JESSE J.

Jesse J. Guiou, 78, a retired Guiou's Truck Stop Owner and truck driver, died Saturday. Service is at 2 p.m. today at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia.

Surviving are son, John, of Buffalo, daughters, Lola Shively of Benedict, and Mildred Summervill, of Alvin, Tex., brother Clyde of Huntsville, Ala., sisters Martha Stoll of Buffalo, Maude of Denver, and Minnie Abbot of El Dorado. GULICK, LENA G.

Lena G. Gulick, 90, of Augusta, a homemaker, died Friday. Services were held at 9:30 a.m. today at Southern Baptist Church in Augusta and 3 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Aline, Okla.

Survivors include son, Stephen, of Douglass, stepsons, Roscoe of Toronto and Raymond of Texas; daughter, Pauline Watkins of Douglass, stepdaughters, Alice Stuck of Aline and Lyda Gulick of Cleo Springs, Okla., and nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

GUMM, RICHARD

Richard Gumm of Douglass died Friday at the age of 58. Services were held Saturday with burial in Augusta.

He was a retired trucker.

Survivors include three sons: Clifford and Stephen of Wichita and Kenneth of Winfield; a daughter, Shelley Keiming of Douglass; a sister, Audrey Crossett of El Paso, Texas, and seven grandchildren. (El Dorado times, Sept. 16, 1985)

GUY, VENETTIA PEARL

Graveside services for Venettia Pearl Guy, 74, of Leon, who died Sunday, Aug. 28, were held Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the Leon cemetery.

Rev. Chester Bodenhamer officiated. Casket bearers were: Richard Crissup, Fred Davis, Carl Johnson, Rod Crissup, Kirk Bidwell, Ellis Ehrlich II, Donald Thomas, Jr., Jason Guy and Jerry Davis.

GWIN, LEE

Funeral services for Lee Gwin, 407 South Alleghany Street, who died here yesterday will be held at the Byrd Funeral Home tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock with Rev. Fred W. Condit, pastor of the Christian Church, officiating.

The body will be taken to Fort Scott after the services here where short services will be held tomorrow afternoon. Pallbearers will be L. R. Bell, Carrol Chalfant, George Cox, Lawrence Webster, O. L. Palmer and Luther Lewis. Interment will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery at Fort Scott. (El Dorado Times, Friday, May 12, 1933)

Funeral services for Lee Gwin, who died here Thursday, were held at the Byrd Funeral Home this morning with Rev. Fred W. Condit, pastor of the Christian Church officiating.

A large group of friends and relatives were present to pay its last respects to the El Doradoan and a large floral offering filled the chapel of the funeral home with its fragrance.

A mixed quartet, composed of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Morris, Miss Elsie Ow, and C. W. Harvey, sang "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "Face to Face" accompanied by Mrs. I. R. Ferguson. Pallbearers were L. R. Bell, Carrol Chalfant, George Cox, Lawrence Webster, O. L. Palmer and Luther Lewis.

The body was taken to Fort Scott immediately after the services here where short funeral services were to be held this afternoon. Interment was to be made in the Evergreen Cemetery there. (El Dorado Times, Saturday, May 13, 1933)
