GALLANT, MARY

Mrs. Mary Gallant, 85, 1112 West Carr, died this morning at her home after an illness of one month.

She was born Oct. 22, 1869, at Waterloo, Iowa, and was married to William B. Gallant, Aug. 9, 1901, at Mason City, Iowa. The couple moved to El Dorado in 1909, lived here two years, then moved to Omaha. They returned in March 1920 and had lived here since. Mr. Gallant died June 17, 1939.

Mrs. Gallant was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Olive Trostle, 1112 West Carr; a son, Clare, Mission, Kans., a sister, Mrs. C. M. Salsbury, Lecompton, Kas.; and four grandchildren.

GASKILL, DORA E.

Dora E. Gaskill, 101, of El Dorado, died Saturday, May 11, 2002 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in El Dorado. Interment will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

She was born May 9, 1901 in Rosalia, the daughter of James L. and Anna C. (Dufner) Borger. She moved to El Dorado in 1935 from a farm east of town and spent most of her life as a homemaker. On July 3, 1923 she was united in marriage to Roy N. Gaskill in El Dorado. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1984. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Winnebago group the Prairie Winnie's of Kansas.

Survivors include a daughter, Waneta Preston of El Dorado; a grandson, Dennis Stricklin of El dorado; two great-granddaughters, Angela McCune and Deanne Woodard both of El Dorado and four great-grandsons, Tyler and Austin McCune and Cody and Hunter Woodard all of El Dorado.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

GASKILL, NELLIE MATILDA HAMMER

Nellie Matilda Hammer was born in Illinois November 2, 1863, and passed away early Saturday morning, September 12, 1936, aged 72 years, 10 months and ten days.

She was married to Edward Gaskill, who died on May 8, 1928.

Mrs. Gaskill had lived in the vicinity of Rosalia for the past 38 years. Prior to that time she was a resident of Greenwood county.

Mrs. Gaskill was a member of the Methodist Church of Rosalia.

She had been in ill health for several months and for the past seven weeks had been cared for at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. R. Clark, near El Dorado.

Mr. and Mrs. Gaskill were the parents of nine children, three of whom, two daughters and a son preceded her to the Eternal Home.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clark, El Dorado, and Mrs. R. J. Layton, of Wichita and four sons, Alvah, of Rosalia, Perry of Augusta, Bert of Wichita and Roy Gaskill of El Dorado. Numerous other relatives and a host of friends mourn her passing.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Rosalia Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment was made in Blankinship cemetery. (El Dorado Times, 1936)

GASKILL, WILLARD "BILL"

Willard "Bill" Gaskill, 81, Leon, died Thursday morning at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Quito Cemetery.

Mr. Gaskill was born Dec. 6, 1894, the son of William and Mary Huffmaster Gaskill, at Nevada, Mo. He was a retired farmer and stockman and was a lifetime resident of the Leon area. He was married to Lillie Andrews who died in 1949. He married Maude Wakefield at Fredonia on Nov. 27, 1955. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Maude of the home, two sons, Delmar of Augusta, and Elmo of Long Beach, Calif., a daughter, Mrs. W. H. (Julia) Patterson Jr of Augusta; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rickey of Fredonia, and Mrs. Sarah Tatum of Virgil; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Floris; three brothers and one sister. (El Dorado Times, September 2, 1976)

Willard "Bill" Gaskill, 81, Leon, died September 2 at Allen Memorial hospital. Services were held Saturday at the Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel with Rev. Stanley Upchurch, Leon Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in Quito Cemetery, Leon.

Mrs. H. W. Bullerdiek played the organ accompaniment as Mrs. Paul Morris and Mrs. Harold Hammer sang "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Larry Wilson, Merrill Wilson, Gordon Andrews, Gordon Mohler, Ellis Ades and R. A. Robinson.

Honorary bearers were Willard Edwards, Loy Quimby, Will Dixon and Bryant Anderson.

Mr. Gaskill, a farmer and stockman, retired in 1970.

He was born December 6, 1894 in Nevada, Mo., the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Gaskill (Mary Huffmaster) and had lived nearly all his life in the Leon area. He married Lillie Andrews who died in 1949. On November 27, 1955, he married Maude Wakefield in Fredonia. She survives.

He was a member of the Baptist church.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two sons, Delmar, Augusta, and Elmo, Long Beach, Calif., a daughter, Mrs. W. H. Patterson, Jr. (Julia), Augusta, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rickey, Fredonia and Mrs. Sarah Tatum, Virgil, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Floris Fern, three brothers and a sister. (Butler County News, September 6, 1976)

GERVY, BERTHA

Bertha Gervy, 89, of Lee's Summit, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 17. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sept. 30, at Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado.

She was born Aug. 20, 1911 to John and Mary Unruh in Lehigh. She lived in El Dorado for many years with her husband, Wesley "Dutch" Richter.

In her 60's she attended college and graduated summa cum laude from Avila College with a degree in psychology.

She married Larry Gervy of Raytown, Mo. She had a lifelong love of music, played the organ and sang in several groups.

Survivors include a son, Marc Richter of Poulsbo, Wash., two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. (El Dorado Times, Sept. 23, 2000)

GOLDEN, EDGAR MRS.

The auto crash of Sunday evening near Severy which cost the lost of Mrs. Edgar Golden and severely injured her husband and several others was a tragedy which struck hard in El Dorado. For the Goldens have been among the most respected citizens of this community and have filled useful capacities over many years. Mrs. Golden was a woman of high spirit and character and numbered her friends by the score. The grievous manner of her loss is one which has affected the whole community.

Mr. Golden, the former secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, is nursing severe injuries but his recovery seems to be a matter of time and he will one day be back at his post in the business life of this town, to whose upbuilding he has contributed many services. Sympathy for him in his great trouble is abundant.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edgar Golden who was fatally injured in a highway accident just north of Severy, Sunday evening, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Severy Methodist Church. Interment will be made in the Severy Cemetery. Mrs. Golden had resided in the Severy Community most of her life.

The condition of Mr. Golden, who was seriously injured in the accident, was reported this morning to be as good as could be expected. He has severe chest injuries, cuts and bruises. He is in the Basham Hospital, at Eureka, and probably will be confined at that place for many days.

The other seven persons hurt in the crash were also reported this morning to be recovering. Most of them had been dismissed from the Basham Hospital where they were taken immediately after the crash. (El Dorado Times, Tuesday, September 19, 1944)

GOMEZ, MARTHA

Funeral services for Martha Gomez, 82, 829 Osage, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church. Mrs. Gomez died Thursday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held today at 7 p.m. at the Kirby-Morris Funeral home.

Mrs. Gomez was born Jan. 30, 1898 in Mexico, the daughter of Pete and Calletana (Nunez) Hernandez. In 1922 she was married to Theodoro Gomez in Mexico. He died in 1941.

She has lived in the El Dorado area since 1941, moving here from Cassoday. Prior to that she had lived in Florence and the Topeka areas. Mrs. Gomez was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Survivors include: six sons, Magdaleno Gomez of Mexico, Pilar Gomez, San Jose, Calif., Raymond Gomez, Pete Gomez, Emidio Gomez, all of El Dorado, Ruben Gomez, Leon, one daughter, Matilda Gomez, El Dorado, one brother, Sonny Hernandez, Topeka, one sister, Mrs. Altagracia Magdaleno of Mexico; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, and one daughter. Kirby Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GRAY, BETTIE J. LARSON (MRS. CHARLES O)

Mrs. Charles O. Gray, 80, of Leon, died Saturday in El Dorado.

Born Jan. 16, 1879, near Leon she had been a resident of Glencoe Township in Butler County all of her life. She was a member of Rosalia Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Orrin Danwey of Leon, Mrs. Vernon Willhite of Rosalia and Mrs. Earl Banks of El Dorado; two sons, Lloyd of Leon and W. Raymond of Towanda; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Cook, 1001 Perry and Mrs. Annie Hammer of Leon; a brother, G. L. Larson of Rosalia, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

GRAY, CHARLES OTIS

Charles Otis Gray, 71 year old farmer and stockman of Route 1, Leon, died enroute to Allen Memorial Hospital early this morning after suffering a heart attack at his home.

Mr. Gray had been ill for a year. He was stricken last night, a doctor was called and it was decided to bring him to El Dorado. He died in an ambulance despite the doctor's attempt to save him.

Mr. Gray was born April 9, 1880, in Glencoe Township, Butler County, and lived there all his life. He was married to Bettie J. Larson on Oct. 17, 1898.

Mr. Gray was a member of the Rosalia Methodist Church and served on the Glencoe Township board for several years. He was also on the school board of District No. 106 and was a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Beaumont.

He is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. O. A. Van Wey, Route 1, Mrs. Earl Bank, Route 3, and Mrs. Vernon Willhite, Route 1, Rosalia; two sons, W. Raymond, Towanda and Lloyd H., Route 1 Leon, two brothers, E. S. Gray, Rosalia and Ernest Gray, Kansas City, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Another son, Charles P., died at the age of 37.

GRAY, MARGARET 'MARGE' ANN

Margaret "Marge" Ann Gray, 41, of Lyons, died Saturday, Sept. 23, at Lyons District Hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27 at the Church of Christ in Lyons, Minister Kurt Simmons officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 20, 1959 to Charles W. and Helen Snyder Lemonds Sr. in Ellsworth. She graduated from Barton County Community Junior College. She was a medical laboratory technician at Lyons Medical Center and formerly employed at Sterling Medical Center and Lyons District Hospital.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Lyons, American Society of Clinical Pathologist and Phi Theta Cappa.

On June 1, 1986, she was married to Jerry L. Gray in Mountain Grove, Mo.

Survivors include: her husband of the home, a son, Shane Allan Gray and wife Melissa of Lyons, a daughter, Misty Lynn gray of Lyons, her mother and step-father, Helen and Herb Hammack of Marquette; her father, Charles W. Lemonds Sr. of Winfield, her grandmother, Mildred Snyer of Logan, brothers, Donald Lemonds of Lyons, Charles W. Lemonds Jr. in the U.S. Army in Germany and L. D. Lemonds of Hutchinson; sisters, Agnes Lineweaver of El Dorado, Patty Hines of Delaware, Ohio and Mary Wolff of Hutchinson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Ray and Vaneeta Gray of Mountain Grove, Mo., Leland and Pamela Martin of Bucyress, Mo., Patty gray of Seymour, Mo., and Judy Wyde of Missouri; her mother-in-law Dorothy Gray of Mountain Grove; a grandson Wyatt Logan Gray and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William E and Agness C. Lemonds and Forrest E. Snyder.

Amy A. (Mrs. Herbert) Greeley,72, of Winfield, a former resident of El Dorado, died Tuesday.

Services were to have been held today at the Swisher Taylor & Morris Funeral home at Winfield.

Survivors are her husband, a son, John of Wichita, two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Hollabaugh of Los Alamos, N.M., and Mrs. Nina Kershner of Mims, Fla., her mother Mrs. Flossie Beach of Winfield and a brother, John Smiley of Hays. (El Dorado Times, February 14, 1980)

GREENWELL, ARTIE E.

Artie E. Greenwell, 72, 1921 Belmont, died Saturday morning at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Valley Memorial Park cemetery.

She was born, March 7, 1908 in Sedgwick, the daughter of William H and Anna (Zang) Thorburn. She married Bill Greenwell Oct. 24, 1926 in El Dorado.

She had lived in El Dorado since 1942. Prior to moving to El Dorado she had lived in Missouri and Longton.

She was formerly employed by Beech Aircraft before World War II. After the war, she had worked for Cessna Aircraft. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a church circle, the Garden Club and the Moose Club.

Survivors include her husband of the home, two sons, Lloyd Greenwell of El Dorado and Harold Greenwell of Benton, a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Luce, El Dorado, two brothers, John Thorburn, Wichita and Alvin Thorburn, Nevada, Mo., five sisters, Mrs. Barbara Huse, Fort Scott, Mrs. Ethel Carpenter, and Mrs. Ruth Fry, both of El Dorado, Mrs. Gladys Pulliam, Wichita and Mrs. Ruby Bowen Emporia, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

GREGORY, ELSIE

Elsie Gregory, former resident of El Dorado, died Sunday at the Sandstone Nursing Home at Little River.

She was the mother of the late Mrs. Marion (Ada) Silor, former head of the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Laboratory.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Congregational Church in Little River with burial and graveside services at Osborn.

A memorial has been established at the Sandstone Nursing Home or may be made with the Heart or Cancer associations.

GRIFFIN, VIOLA MAY

Mrs. Viola May Griffin, 78, of 1619 West Towanda, avenue died Tuesday at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Cassoday United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Daugherty, pastor of the Park Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Cassoday cemetery.

Mrs. Griffin was born at Sycamore Springs on Sept. 22, 1894, and was married to the late Elmer D. Griffin at El Dorado on June 21, 1916. He died in January 1953. She came to El Dorado in 1958 after living at Wichita for five years. Prior to that, she lived in the Cassoday area.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Elsie Brady of Salt lake City, Utah, Mrs. Xerpha Flavin of Esborn, Kan., Mrs. Effie Wakefield of Augusta, Mrs. Virginia Callaway of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Tiny Baggett of Denver, Colo. Five sons, Arnold Griffin of Newton, John Griffin of Jefferson City, Mo., Edgar Griffin of Burns, Louie Griffin of Beverly, Kan., Elmer D. Griffin Jr., of Oklahoma City, Okla. and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Bird of Quinter, Kan.

There are 39 grandchildren. Two children preceded Mrs. Griffin in death.

GRIFFITH, ARLIE E. FLOWERS

Mrs. Arlie E. Flowers Griffith, 76, of 511 West Cave Springs, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday in Allen Memorial Hospital following a week's illness.

She was born at Shinston, Va., on March 26, 1889 and had been a resident of El Dorado since coming from West Virginia in 1918.

She was married to Erwin M. Griffith at El Dorado on October 14, 1935.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado. Other affiliations include the Midian Booster Club and Ladies of the Elks.

She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

She is survived by her husband, of the home; two sons, Roy B. Flowers of Houston, Texas, and Harold W. Flowers of Winfield, one brother, Glenn Sturm of Shinston; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial Chapel on Wednesday at 10 a.m. by Dr. Joe Riley Burns, pastor of the First Methodist Church of El Dorado. Interment will be made in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 4, 1965)

Funeral services for Mrs. Artie E. Flowers Griffith, 76, who died here Monday, were conducted this morning at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Joe Riley Burns, pastor of the First Methodist Church of El Dorado of which Mrs. Griffith was a member, conducted last rites.

At the organ, Mrs. Amos B. Marsh, was accompanist for Mrs. James D. Allen who sang "In the Sweet By and By," and "Beyond the Sunset."

Serving as honorary casket bearers were Fred Flesher Marshal, J. Brown, E. B. Low, C. L. Green, Alva Gill and Harry Black.

Active bearers were Ernest C. Wilson, Clyde Grimm, Noble V. Waite, J. F. Marshall, Charles W. Cook and Marvin Miller.

GRIFFITH, ARTHUR H.

Arthur H. Griffith, 67, Wichita, died Sunday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell Funeral Home, Eureka.

He was a retired Vulcan Materials Company Tool Crib manager.

Survivors include two sons, Claude M and John both of Haysville, a daughter Mrs Inez Dixon of El Dorado and a brother, Ray of Lewiston, Idaho. (El Dorado Times, February 18, 1980)

GRIFFITH, BELLE

Mrs. Belle Griffith, 621 W. Pine, died Friday, Oct. 11, at Allen Memorial Hospital after an illness of six weeks.

Mrs. Griffith was born December 30, 1876, at Brodhead, Wisc. A daughter of G. W. and Nancy Cronk, she came to Kansas when the Cronk-Wilson family chartered a train car in 1889. She married Samuel W. Griffith, July 4, 1900, at home in Prospect Township. His death occurred April 4, 1940.

Mrs. Griffith, a former school teacher, had lived southeast of El Dorado until 1946 when she moved into El Dorado. She previously had taught in rural Butler county schools at Prospect and Economy.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, W. S. C. S. the Susannah French Putney chapter D. A. R., the Women's Christian Temperance union and was a charter member of the Jolly 17 Neighborhood club.

Services were held October 15 in the Trinity United Methodist church with Rev. Raymond York, pastor, officiating. Mrs. York accompanied Mrs. W. H. Richter who sang "Beneath the Cross of Jesus," "Near to the Heart of God," and "The Eastern Gate." Casket bearers were Gene Griffith, Joe Unger, Russell Griffith, Calvin Poston, J. E. Edward Foster and Aaron Wilson. Honorary bearers were Murray McCormick, Robert Wilson, Roy Nace, The Rev. F. J. Schodt, Dr. J. H. Johnson, Merle Griffith, Robert C. Jones and J. B. Srader.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald V. Griffith, canon City, Colo., and S. George Griffith, New York city, two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Alice) Unger, El dorado route two and Mrs. Frances Stoppel, Eureka Springs, Ark., one sister, Miss Nellie Cronk, 621 West Pine. There are six grandsons, one granddaughter and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen, five brothers, three sisters and one great grandchild.

Interment was in Economy cemetery. Dietz-Pittman was in charge of arrangements. (El Dorado times, October 24, 1968)

GRIFFITH, DORA

Mrs. Dora Griffith, 83, of 507 North Star died Sunday at the Valley View Convalescent Home following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Griffith had been a resident of El Dorado for the past 25 years. She had previously lived at Augusta and Kremlin, Okla.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of El Dorado.

Mrs. Griffith was born April 10, 1879 at Cottonwood Falls.

She was first married to Wesley H. Thompson, a Civil War veteran on March 17, 1897 at North Enid, Okla. He died in 1909.

On June 26, 1911, she was married to Charles W. Griffith at Leon. He died Oct. 14, 1958.

Survivors include four sons, Wilbur and Clarence Griffith, both of El Dorado, Harry C. Thompson, Albuquerque, N. Mex., and Everett C. Thompson, Topeka, a daughter, Mrs. Neva Cassity, Renton, Wash., two half sisters Mrs. Murray Maclean and Mrs. A. K. Brown, both of Leon, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by three sons, Earl W. and Charles LeRoy Thompson and a son who died in infancy and a brother, Dave Oldbury.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the First Church of the Nazarene with its pastor, the Rev. Harold Jones officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Lawns cemetery.

GRIFFITH, JACOB SCOTT

Jacob Scott Griffith, 9, 1144 Ohio, died Saturday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Ray Gilstrap will officiate and burial will be in the Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas Society for Crippled Children.

He was born Oct. 13, 1975 in Wichita to Ronald D. and Jeanette Fairbanks Griffith.

He was a third grader at Garfield Elementary Schools.

Survivors include his mother, Jan Griffith of Augusta, father, Ronald Griffith of Phoenix, Arz., a brother Reginald and sisters, Joy, Ashley all of Augusta, grandparents, Donald and Rema Fairbanks, Betty Griffith all of Wichita, and a great-grandfather, Ben David Fairbanks of Norton. Jacob Scott Griffith, 9, of Augusta, a student at Garfield Elementary School of Augusta, died Saturday. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita.

Survivors include his mother, Jan Griffith of Augusta, his father, Ronald Griffith of Phoenix; brother, Reginald and sisters, Joy and Ashley, all of Augusta; grandparents, Donald and Rema Fairbanks and Betty Griffith, all of Wichita; and great-grandfather, Ben David Fairbanks of Norton.

GRIFFITH, JOHN MRS.

Mrs. John Griffith, pioneer resident of Butler County, died late yesterday at her home, 519 South Washington Street, following a brief illness. She was 90 years old.

Born in Green County, Pa., September 28, 1850, Mrs. Griffith came to Kansas in 1874, six years after her marriage in Pennsylvania. The couple homesteaded near Rosalia and resided there until 1905 when they moved to Rosalia. Mr. Griffith died June 21, 1929 and in 1933 Mrs. Griffith came to El Dorado where she had lived since. The El Dorado resident was extremely active until a short time before her death.

Mrs. Griffith reared 11 children, seven of whom survive. They are Mrs. N. L. Reed and Mrs. Roy Nace, of El Dorado; Mrs. William Cannon of Rosalia, Mrs. Lou Hart of Wichita, Mrs. Henry Boucher and Mrs. O. R. Starkey of Augusta. Rev. Glenn Griffith of Nampa, Idaho; an adopted son, Floyd of Rosalia, 35 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Mrs. Effie Mann, and three sons, William, Samuel, and Benjamin. The latter a Nazarene minister, built the first Nazarene Church at Wichita. Mrs. Griffith was a member of the Church of Nazarene.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Byrd Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock with rev. Clarence Rowland, pastor of the local Church of the Nazarene and Rev. GRIFFITH, SAMUEL M.

Samuel M. Griffith, Route 2, El Dorado, died early this morning at his home in Prospect Township following a lingering illness. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Griffith, a farmer and stockman, had been a resident of the Turkey Creek Community for the past 40 years. Born in Green County, Pa., September 8, 1871, he came to Kansas with his parents when a child and settled at Rosalia where he resided 25 years before moving to Prospect Township. He was married to Belle E. Cronk, July 4, 1900. Mr. Griffith, a member of the Evangelical Church, was well known in that community and had served on the Turkey Creek School Board a short time.

Surviving are his widow; two sons, Gerald Griffith, of Peru; and George Griffith of Whitting; a daughter, Mrs. Fred Unger, Jr., of El Dorado, a brother Glen Griffith, of Filer, Idaho; six sisters, Mrs. N. L. Reed, and Mrs. Roy Nace, both of El Dorado; Mrs. H. E. Boucher and Mrs. Ora Starkey of Augusta; Mrs. Lon Hart, of Wichita and Mrs. William Cameron of Rosalia, a niece, Miss Frances Johnson of El Dorado whom the Griffiths reared and seven grandchildren. Another daughter, Helen died in childhood.

GRIMES, FRED M.

Services were May 18, in Grand Prairie, Texas, for Fred M. Grimes, 82, a retired Oklahoma law officer. He served as a sheriff's deputy in Mayes County, Okla., for 27 years and was chief of police at Pryor and Anadarko, Okla.

A native of Texas, he returned to Grand Prairie, Texas, upon his retirement.

His wife, Lela, died Dec. 20, 1972.

Survivors include three sons, Fred B. Grimes, Grand Prairie, Texas, James C., Casper, Wyo., and Harold Edwards, Beaumont, Texas, four daughters, Emma L. Taylor, El Dorado; Leona Abshere, Lawton, Okla., Mary Hamlin, Houston, Texas, and Faye Oden, Cooper, Texas and three grandchildren of El Dorado, Robert E. Taylor, James B. Taylor and Judry Burtehert. GRISHAM, KELSO

Kelso Grisham, 90, of 200 N. Gordy, died Thursday evening at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Mr. Grisham was born Aug. 28, 1893 at Nevada, Mo., the son of Lawrence A. and Cassie Hudson Grisham. He moved to El Dorado in 1933 from St. Louis and operated the Brunswick Billard Parlor until his retirement in 1959.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Barrack Post, a past member of the American Legion and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America for over 50 years. During World War I, he served in the army.

On August 1, 1920, he married Opal Casenburg at Eureka.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Joe R. Grisham, Claremore, Okla., a granddaughter, Paula J. Rippenteau, Oklahoma City and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

GROW, AUBREY E.

Aubrey E. grow, 71, of 623 South Atchison died Sunday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel with burial in the Latham cemetery. Friends may call at the Dietz-Carlson Funeral Home.

Mr. grow was born Feb. 1, 1908 at Latham, the son of Archie and Dora Crabtree Grow. He was a retired restaurant owner and had operated restaurants in Latham, Augusta and El Dorado. He retired 15 years ago. He was a member of the World Wide Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Lula, of the home; two sons, Danny of McPherson and Jack of Garden City, a daughter, Mrs. Delores Cox, of El Dorado, two brothers, Roscoe of Atlanta and Max of Haven, a sister, Mrs. Winona Nance of El Dorado, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Richard. (El Dorado Times)

GRUBB, MARGARET A.

Margaret A. Grubb, 81, of Douglass, retired deputy register of deeds for Butler County and homemaker, died Saturday at Douglass Nursing Center. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Douglass Christian Church. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 28, 1903 in Sedgwick County, the daughter of Enos D. Ferguson and Cora E. (Dunkin) Ferguson. She was married to Thurston L. Grubb on Oct. 11, 1926 at Ft. Worth, Texas. He survives.

She was a member of the Douglass Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star, Woodbine Chapter 95. She was 60 year member of OES.

Other survivors include a daughter, Shirley McKee of Cleburne, Texas, one brother, Enos Ferguson of Banning, Calif., and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial is to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation.
