HENDRY, MILDRED E.

Mildred E. Hendry, 69, of Baldwin City, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 1994. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist church with Rev. Harry Cole officiating. Burial will be in Fouts cemetery near Ottawa.

She was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Ottawa, the daughter of Everett C. and Rebekah Roberts Finch, and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1944.

She worked at Beech and Cessna Aircraft in Wichita during WWII, as a secretary at Baker University, and as a secretary at Jones Family Practice for more than 30 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Baldwin Baptist Church.

On May 15, 1945, she and Wyatt I. Hendry were married in Augusta.

Survivors include: husband, Wyatt, daughter, Janelle Davis of Lawrence, sons, Marvin of Kansas City, Mo., Randal of Wellsville, Ronald of Linwood, sisters, Dorothy Orton of El Dorado, Lois Aldridge of Topeka, seven grandchildren.

HENNESSEY, FREDA M.

Freda M. Hennessey, 73, of Eureka, homemaker, died Saturday, March 26, 1994. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Cemetery.

HESS, MACY LEE

Macy Lee Hess, 17, of El Dorado, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 2, 1994. Services are 3 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in McGill cemetery.

She was born Dec. 29, 1976, in Wichita, the daughter of Woody and Shirley (Melson) Hess. She was a lifelong resident of El Dorado and a senior at El Dorado High School.

Her memberships included the First United Methodist Church, the church's Youth Group, Student Council representative, president of the National Honor Society, Earth Care, and SADD. She had participated in track, cross county, debate, forensics, and E-Club. She was selected to participate in Girls State and was a Kansas Honor Scholar.

Survivors include: parents, Woody & Shirley Hess; brother, Bryan of the home; grandparents, Kathy & Bob Ireland of Newton, Fern & Virgil Stapleman of Tuscon, Ariz. She was preceded in death by grandparents Joe Melson, Lester Hess, Chris and Rose Ammeter.

HESSLER, WILMA O.

Wilma O. Hessler, 78, of Newton, homemaker, died Thursday, June 9, 1994. Services are 2:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Newton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Pastor Alden Dick will officiate the services.

She was born June 29, 1915, in Kechi to Charles W. Shepherd and Lucretia E. Chambers. On April 12, 1936, she and Walter H. Hessler were married in Newton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the 50-53 Club.

Survivors include; husband, Walter, daughters, Roberta Shaffer of Wichita, Doris Campbell of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

HESTER, HELEN CHRISTINE

Helen Christine Hester, 72, of Augusta, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 1994. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Church Terrill officiating.

She was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Neodesha, the daughter of W. A. Keller and Ethel Powell. She and Henry Hester were married in Houston in 1972. He died in 1979. She was a homemaker and a member of Haverhill Christian Church.

Survivors include: sons, Johnny McCarthy of El Dorado, Glen McCarthy of Longmonth, Colo., Michael McCarthy of Brighton, Colo.; daughter, Linda Ridge of Augusta, brother Wendell Keller of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, step-mother, Nita Keller of Wichita. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Maynard Keller and grandson Michael McCarthy II. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 20, 1994)

HILL, GARY L.

Gary L. Hill, 55, formerly of El Dorado, died Friday, April 22, 1994. Rosary is 7 p.m. tonight and memorial services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral, Wichita.

He had been assistant manager at Haberlein's and was the corporate director for the Arthritis Foundation. He was the first Wichitan to receive a heart transplant (Dec. 15, 1986) and was co-founder of the New Hearts Cardiac Transplant Support Gropu. His volunteer work included the American Heart Association and the Midwest Organ Bank.

Survivors include: wife, Sandra, sons, Steven, Brad, all of Wichita, brother, Paul Hill Jr. of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; one granddaughter.

HILL, MERTON P.

Merton P. Hill, 84, of Benton, died Wednesday morning, June 15, 1994, at his home. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Benton Christian Church. Burial will be in Benton Cemetery. Rev. David Melton will officiate and cremation will precede the services.

He was born April 5, 1910, in Benton, the son of Leon Craig and Minnie May Doyle Hill, and had lived in Benton all his life. He was the postmaster and a rural mail carrier in Benton and a member of the Christian Church, National Rural Mail Carrier Association and a past member of the Masonic Lodge.

On Jan. 24, 1933, he and Olive Lucille Bloir were married in El Dorado. She died Jan. 18, 1985.

Survivors include son, Leroy of El Dorado, daughter, Joanne Patrick of Augusta, four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

HILTON, WILLIAM L. "BILL"

William L. "Bill" Hilton, 76, of McPherson, formerly of El Dorado, died Tuesday, March 8, 1994. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in McPherson. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 24, 1917, in Independence, to Frederick E. Hilton and edna M. kepler and graduated from El Dorado High School. He had lived in McPherson since 1940. he retired in 1979 as a salesman for National Life and Accident Co.

On Nov. 27, 1940, he and Virginia Lea Vogt were married in Eureka. She died Nov. 2, 1980. On Feb. 15, 1985, he and Lois M. Buell were married in McPherson. His memberships included Church of Christ and American legion Post 24.

Survivors include: wife, Lois, sons, Robert of Pampa, Texas, Frederick of Broken Arrow, Okla., Stepdaughters, Mary Wilson of Andover, Marilyn Brauer of Derby; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren.

HOGOBOOM, GLADYS IRENE SIDENER

Gladys Irene Sidener Hogoboom, 83, of El Dorado, died Friday, Aug. 12, 1994, at Susan B. Allen Hospital. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

She was born Jan. 20, 1911, in rural Chase County, the daughter of Nimrod and Gertrude Horsely Huntley and moved to El Dorado from Florence in 1930. She was a beautician and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was married to Issac Sidener, who preceded her in death. She married John Hogoboom in 1991.

Survivors include: husband, John, daughter, Shelley Gaston of El Dorado, brother, Harold Huntley of Florence, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, LaDonna.

HOLLENBECK, LENA ELLEN

Lena Ellen Hollenbeck, 88, of El Dorado, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 1994 at Knutson Manor Nursing Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Lawns Cemetery with Rev. Rick Harms officiating.

She was born Oct. 10, 1905 in rural Rosalia, the daughter of Bill and Mary Jane Dale Williams. She was a homemaker and member of Prospect Baptist Church, and had lived most of her life in El Dorado.

In 1928 she and Morgan Louis Hollenbeck were married in El Dorado. He died in 1959.

Survivors include: son, Donald of Nixa, Mo.; brother Jack Walls of Springdale, Ark.; sister, Lillie Arnold of Yuba City, Calif.; one granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, one great-great-grandson.

HOLLOWELL, AUSTIN H.

Austin H. Hollowell, 80, of Wichita, formerly of El Dorado, retired Beech Aircraft planner, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 1994. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Mortuary. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery.

He was born April 23, 1913 in Wichita, the son of E. G. and Vivian Hollowell. He served in the U.S. Army.

HOLT, CARSON P.

Carson P. Holt, 68, of Leon, died Saturday, July 16, 1994 at his home in Leon. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Leon Baptist Church. Burial will be in Leon cemetery.

He was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Leon, the son of Harold and Hazel Ireland Holt. He returned to Leon nine years ago from Alaska where he had lived for 30 years. He was a road construction contractor in Alaska and was also in the gold mining business. He was a member of the Leon Baptist Church.

Survivors include, mother, Hazel of Leon; brother, Clarence of Zapata, Texas, sister, Rosanna Green of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, David.

HOUGLAND, MILDRED I.

Mildred Iris Hougland, 90, former Cherryvale resident, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1994. Services were Friday afternoon at the Darling and Burns Chapel. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.

She was born Sept. 12, 1904 in Sycamore, the daughter of Harry O. Smith and Eva Mae Holden and attended Independence schools. On Dec. 5, 1922 she and C. C. Hougland were married in Independence. They moved from a farm north of Cherryvalve into town in 1973. He preceded her in death Sept. 14, 1986.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Sunflower Workers Home Demonstration Unit.

Survivors include: son, Michael of Towanda; daughter, Evalyn Holton of Tulsa, Okla. sisters Althea Rector, Mabel Riggs, both of Independence; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, a brother, three sisters and a grandchild.

HOUPT, BRAYDEN LEE

Brayden Lee Houpt, infant son of Michaelle Lynn Lunda and Kenneth Lee Houpt II both of El Dorado, died Thursday, April 14, 1994. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Other survivors include: grandparents, Ricardo and Rita Luna of El Dorado, Kenneth and Renie Houpt of Andover, great-grandparents, Keith and Ruth Burdine of Emery, Texas, Gene and Delores Luna of Sedgwick; great-great-grandmother, Anastasia Luna of Sedgwick.

HOWELL, GENEVIEVE

Genevieve Howell, 83, of Miami, Okla., and former longtime El Dorado resident, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 1994 at her home. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born June 4, 1910, in El Dorado to William C. and Clara B. Miller Tipton. She was a homemaker and seamstress and a member of the Methodist Church and V. F. W. Auxiliary. She had lived in Miami, Okla. for the past three years.

She married John Alvin Howell in 1928. He died Dec. 4, 1941.

Survivors include: sons, Charles of Greensburg, Alvin of Lawrence, daughter Mary Voss of Miami, Okla., six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy P. Hudson, 92, of Wichita, formerly of El Dorado, died Friday evening at Prairie Homestead Nursing Home in Wichita. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie Homestead Chapel. Entombment will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Belle Vista Mausoleum in El Dorado.

She was born Feb. 10, 1902 in Mansfield, Ohio, the daughter of Frank A. and Cora (Myers) Power. She lived in Wichita since 1972 after moving from El Dorado where she had lived most of her life.

On March 18, 1927, she and Eugene F. Hudson were married in Joplin, Mo. He died May 15, 1967. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wichita.

HUGGINS, MYRTLE A.

Services for Myrtle A. Huggins, 93, formerly of El Dorado, were held April 27 at the Ashley-Grigsby Mortuary in Los Angeles, Calif. She died April 23, 1994.

She was born March 16, 1901, in Eupora, Miss., the daughter of Abigail and William Chandler. She moved to Los Angeles in 1969 after the death of her husband Willie M. Huggins. Her memberships included the Phillips Temple CME Church and Senior Citizens Clubs.

She was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Pittsburg, the daughter of Michael Ray and Tola Kitchen Kirwin. She was a homemaker and had lived in El Dorado for several years. Her memberships included the First United Methodist Church, Andrina Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and ladies of the Moose.

On April 9, 1932, she and Virgil Hughey were married in El Dorado. He preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1986.

Survivors include: sister, Lynette DeArmond of Placerville, Calif., three granddaughters, six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jerry Lee, and one sister.
