HALL, BEN L.

Ben L. Hall, 73, of El Dorado, died Friday evening at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carlson Funeral home. Burial will follow.

He was born march 19, 1912, at Elk, Neb., the son of Ben E. and Della Harmon Hall. He had lived in El Dorado for the past 30 years, and was an electrician for Butler Rural Electric. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, American legion and the VFW. He served in the Army during World War II.

On Sept. 12, 1951, he married Beth Balch, at Nevada, Mo.

Survivors include his wife, and a sister, Eva Esehenberg, of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (El Dorado Times, Nov. 16, 1985)

Services for Ben L. Hall, 73, of El Dorado, were held Tuesday afternoon at Carlsons Funeral Home. Burial followed the services in Walnut Valley Memorial Park. He died Friday Nov. 15.

The Rev. Wayne Sharp, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church, officiated at the services.

HARDWICK, WANDA I.

Wanda I. Hardwick, 77, died early Saturday morning at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lyons Cemetery in Lyons.

She was born Oct. 15, 1908 in Eureka, the daughter of Jacob and Ida Mae (Taylor) Campbell. She was married to Walter L. Hardwick Aug. 3, 1937 in Larned. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1966.

She came to El Dorado five years ago from California. Prior to that she lived in Lyons, where she and her husband operated a restaurant.

She is survived by one son, Walter, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and one brother.

HARREL, CALLA L.

Calla L. Harrel, 86, of Pratt, retired Jett's Clothing Store Clerk and sister of Lou Ann Hart of Beaumont, died Wednesday. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Pratt.

Other survivors include her husband, Jerry; stepson Ralph of San Marcos, Texas, foster son, David Johnson of Huntsville, Ala.; daughter, Everitta Martin of Pratt; brother, Jack Utt of Green Forest, Ark.; sisters, Ruby Davis of Blackwell, Okla., and Sylvia Beechwood of Bartlesville, Okla. and 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

HARRISON, BILLY PARKE

Billy Parke Harrison, 51, of Route 2, Bristow, Okla., and a native of El Dorado, died Monday at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., of a heart attack.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Green Hills Chapel in Sapulpa, Okla., with burial at Sapulpa.

He was born April 28, 1934 in El Dorado, the son of B. P. and Della Marshall Harrison. He attended El Dorado schools and graduated from Hollywood Professional School in Hollywood, Calif., in 1952. He also attended the Kansas City Art Institute.

He had become a well-known artist with works in galleries in Wichita; Austin and Fort Worth, Texas, and Taos, N. M.

He had lived in California, Wichita and Tulsa.

He married Carol Cabeen in 1955 and she preceded him in death. In 1965, he was married to Sharon Kizer, who survives.

Other survivors are a daughter, Melody Baker, of Tulsa, a son, Curtis of Bristow, a sister, Ida Dell Allen, of Fort Smith, Ark.; and a brother, Marshall of Wichita.

Burial will follow the services in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, Nov. 12, 1985)

HERBERS, SYLVESTER B. 'SI'

Sylvester B. "SI" Herbers, 67, of Winfield, Kansas State Department of Transportation equipment operator and brother of Alvin Herbers of Rose Hill, died Tuesday. Rosary is at 7:30 p.m. today at Miles Memorial Chapel. Services are scheduled for 10 am. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield.

Other survivors include his wife, Pauline; sons, Larry of Topeka, Don of Leoti, Tom of Scott City and Charles of Winfield, sister, Loretta Strode of Mulvane; and 12 grandchildren.

HERMAN, PAUL D.

Paul D. (Lefty) Herman, 66, of 1320 West Finney, died Tuesday morning at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Park Avenue Baptist Church with burial in Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Herman was born March 4, 1909, at Dunlap, the son of George and Louisa Hoffman Herman. He married Marna Oliver on July 25, 1936, at El Dorado. He was a retired Skelly Oil Company employee. Before he became associated with Skelly he was a professional baseball player - at Wichita in the Western League and for Portland in the Pacific League. Later he pitched for the Skelly team, the Oilers.

Mr. Herman was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Marna, of the home; one sister, Mrs. Florence Borg of Wichita and one brother, George Herman of Andover. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

A memorial has been established in his name with the Cardiac Care Unit. Donations may be made at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital or through the Kirby Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements. (El Dorado Times, Wednesday, December 31, 1975)

HIGGINS, ANNA D.

Anna D. Higgins, 87, of 509 S. Atchison, died Thursday afternoon at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Walnut Valley memorial Park. Burial will follow the services. The Rev. Wayne Sharp, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate at the services.

She was born Jan. 26, 1897 in Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of Margaret and James Mann. She married Charles Franklin Higgins on June 2, 1920 at Kansas city, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1971.

They moved to El Dorado in 1966. They had previously made their home in Texas and Oklahoma and had spent 18 years in Madison.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Kenneth) Goddard, Culver City, Calif., Emma jean (Mrs. Harold) Provo and Patricia Ann Garward, both of El Dorado, a sister, Elizabeth (Mrs. Howard) Houck, Rossville, Kan., seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a daughter, Georgia Mae, in infancy.

HILL, CLARENCE DEAN

Clarence Dean Hill, 48, of Haven, a Republic Paperboard power plant foreman and brother of Lorraine Baughman of El Dorado, died Wednesday. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Haven.

Other survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jane; daughters, Lori, Shelli, both of Wichita; brother, Duane of Haven.

Memorials have been established with United Methodist Church and Reno County Hospice, Hutchinson.

HILL, DONALD ALAN

Donald Alan Hill, 85, 1928 Cron, died today at the Augusta Medical complex.

His service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Towanda Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Cancer Society.

He was born Jan. 13, 1899 in Courtland, Neb., to Junious E. and Anna Marian Hill.

He married Edith Frankie Priest, Oct. 9, 1920 in Wichita. She survives.

He was a retired jig builder at Boeing Military Aircraft Co.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Towanda 30 Masonic Lodge, Witchia Consistory and the Wichita Shrine.

Other survivors include two grandchildren, Howard Randall LeGrande of Nederland, Colo., and Sherry Cohen of Augusta, and three great-grandsons.

HILL, ELMER R.

Elmer R. Hill, 85, of Newton, retired farmer and brother of Allie Vogt of Whitewater, died Monday. Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Salem United Methodist Church, Newton.

Other survivors include his wife, Oleta; stepson, Kenneth Yunker of Grand Lake, Colo.; daughter, Phyllis Richey of Denver, sisters, Mabel Robertson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Neavea Miller of Banning, Calif., Mary Roseander of Palm Springs, Calif., three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

HILL, LEO ROY

Leo Roy Hill, 71, a former longtime resident of Whitewater, died Jan. 28 in Sun Valley, Calif.

He was born Jan. 28, 1913.

Mr. Hill is survived by his wife, Angela of Sun Valley, sons, Keith, Sylmar, Calif., Ronald, Sun Valley, Robert, Sun Valley, daughters, Dorothy, Fernley, Nev., Delores, Sun Valley, Leona, Sylmar, Calif., Mary, Burbank, Calif., brothers Frank of Furley, Harry of Newton, Duane of Sedgwick, sister Velma of Wichita, 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

HILLIS, EDITH S.

Edith S. Hillis, 80, Wichita, sister of Ed Strode of Augusta, died Sunday.

Her funeral will be at 10 am. Tuesday at the Downing and Lahey Mortuary in Wichita. Dr. Vernon Reffner will officiate and burial will be in Dunlap Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association.

HOGE, MARGARET L.

Funeral services for Margaret L. Hoge, 82, Augusta who died Monday at the Augusta Medical Center will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Derby.

The rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at the church. Father Paul Coakley and Father Arthur Busch will officiate.

She was born Sept. 23, 1901 in Indianola, Neb., to Sturmius Charles and Mary Elizabeth Kircher Brahler.

She married Herman Victor Hoge Nov. 18, 1925 in Elwood, Neb. He preceded her in death Nov. 7, 1981. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Other survivors include sons, Herman of Augusta, Ralph and James, both of Wichita; a daughter, Dorothy Mayne of Alma, Mich.; a sister, Nettie Brown of Rushville, Neb., 11 grandchildren and 16 grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, August 7, 1984)

HOLDEMAN, MILDRED F.

Mildred F. Holdeman, 93, of Rose Hill, a homemaker, died Thursday. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Hesston.

Survivors include a son, Don of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Lovetta Keeler of Rose Hill, and Shirley Stewart of Snyder, Texas; brother Oliver Holdeman of Stapleton, Ga., sisters, Lucretia Hiebert of Walnut Hill, Fla., and Gertude Boeckner of Moundridge, and 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Westview Manor in derby and United Methodist Church in Rose Hill.

HOLEM, HOMER F.

Services for Homer F. Holem, 73, 129 N. Topeka, were held Tuesday afternoon at Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel. He died Saturday. Reverend Donald McCracken, pastor of the First Baptist church officiated at the services. Mrs. Evelyn Hanks, at the organ, played the prelude and the postlude. William Lange sang "Farther Along" and "Have Thine own Way Lord." Casket bearers were O. L. Huddleston, Wilbur C. Mossman, Paul Bisagno, Earl Eaton, Harry Smith, and Harold Wentling. Honorary bearers were Ray Rutherford, Charles Smock, S. A. Boone, Lawrence Harms, Donald Milbourn and Keith Mossman. Interment was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, November 19, 1975)

HOLLADAY, EARL M.

Earl M. Holladay, 81, of 328 Diagonal road, died Tuesday night at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the services in Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Holladay was born Dec. 31, 1902, the son of Harmon A. and Elizabeth Wilkerson Holladay, in Guthrie, Mo. On May 24, 1922, he was married to Hala Will Hendricks in Fulton, Mo.

Mr. Holladay came to Kansas in 1922 to work for the Empire Oil and Gas Co. He was employed by the company for more than 44 years as a pumper and retired in 1967. Mr. Holladay had lived in El Dorado since April of this year, coming here from Peabody.

Survivors include his wife, Hala Will, of the home; two daughters, Helen McNary, Rural Route 4, El Dorado and Betty Lanman, Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Nova Twibel, El Dorado and seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Earl Clayton Holladay; one grandson, Mark Lanman, and two brothers and one sister. (El Dorado Times, Nov. 28, 1984)

Memorial services for Earl M. Holladay, 81, of 328 Diagonal, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Walnut Valley Memorial Park. He died Nov. 27.

Rev. Robert M. McNary and Rev. Robert Earl McNary officiated. Organist was Mrs. Amos B. Marsh and vocalist was Rev. Rick McNary. Musical sections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Casket bearers were Mike McNary, Kelly McNary, Jeff Miller, Bill Whitis, Kendall Jackson and Kelsey Orton.

Masonic services were conducted by Patmos Masonic Lodge No. 97, A. F. & A. M. C. Verne Myers was orator. (El Dorado Times, Dec. 4, 1984)

HONN, DORA COOLEY

Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Honn, 79, of El Dorado, who died November 20, were held there Saturday afternoon at Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel.

She was the mother of Mrs. Lyman (Georgia) Nace of rural Towanda.

Born at Burns on December 24, 1895, Mrs. Honn spent her entire life in Butler County.

She was married to Albert Cooley, June 21, 194. He preceded her in death July 28, 1949. In 1961, she was married to Arthur Honn. He died June 24, 1973.

She is also survived by two step-sons, Harold Honn and Carroll Honn both of El Dorado; two step-daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Reichert and Mrs. Maxine Blackburn, both of El Dorado, one sister, Mrs. Bertha Cooley, El Dorado, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandhcildren.

Interment was in Belle Vista Cemetery at El Dorado. (El Dorado Times, November 27, 1975)

Services for Mrs. Dora Cooley Honn, 79, 630 Benton Avenue, were held Saturday at the Dietz-Carlson Funeral Home. She died Thursday.

The Rev. C. M. Nutter, staff member of the First United Methodist Church, officiated. Mrs. Amos B. Marsh played the prelude and postlude on the organ and accompanied William Lange, who sang "How Gret Thou Art," and "In the Garden."

Casket bearers were Jerry Mosier, Ronnie Mosier, Bill Nace, Raymond Robinson, Dennis Clark and Rod Blackburn. Interment was in Belle Vista Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, November 24, 1975)

HOUSEMAN, RICHARD C. 'DICK'

Richard C. "Dick" Houseman, 48 of Rawlins, Wyo., a former El Dorado resident, died recently at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Wyoming. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Arkansas City.

He was born Feb. 25, 1936 in Choctaw, Okla. He married Ramona Balsters Dec. 12, 1959 in Arkansas City.

He had lived in Rawlins for the past six years, and was district manager for Flint Engineering and Construction at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Elks, the Moose Lodge, and the Sinclair Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona Houseman of Rawlins, son Randolph Houseman of Rawlins, daughter, Regina Rentfro of Lubbock, Texas, two brothers, Wayne Houseman of Derby, Kan., and Keith Houseman of Ponca City, Okla., a sister, Dolores walker of Arkansas City and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild.

HURD, DONALD E.

Donald E. Hurd, 55, died at his home in Wichita on Tuesday. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Rest Haven Mortuary on West 54 in Wichita, with private burial at Sunset Lawns Cemetery at El Dorado.

Mr. Hurd was born April 27, 1920, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hurd. He was reared in El Dorado.

An employee of the Boeing Company in Wichita, he was married to Mabel Still in El Dorado on Sept. 26, 1942.

Survivors include his wife of the home, three sons, Bob and Steve of Wichita, and Don of Bartlesville, Okla., two sisters, Mrs. D. D. Morris of El Dorado and Mrs. Ethel McCormick of Newton; two brothers, Glenn of Yakima, Wash., and William K. of El Dorado and five grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, Jan. 1, 1976)

HURD, INEZ M. (MRS. HARRY)

Mrs. Inez M. (Harry) Hurd, 79, Neodesha, died at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilson County Hospital in Neodesha.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Neodesha and burial will be in the Neodesha Cemetery, under the direction of the Loren-Fawcett Funeral Home of Neodesha.

Mrs. Hurd was the former Inez Maude Alexander, the daughter of William and Ruth Stone Alexander and was born November 14, 1896 at Niangua, Mo. She was married to Harry H. Hurd on April 26, 1916, at Neodesha. She had lived in Neodesha since 1915.

She was a member of the First Baptist church and a housewife.

Survivors are her husband of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Etolia Siegrist of 611 North Emporia, El Dorado; a brother, Lawrence Alexander of Fredonia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, November 26, 1975)
