LIPSCOMB, JOHN RICHARD "DICK"

LIPSCOMB ROSARY WILL BE TUESDAY

Augustan John Richard "Dick" Lipscomb, 68, died Saturday, Sept. 9, at Augusta Medical Complex.

A rosary for the retired Mobil Oil employee will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. His services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Jim Billinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Walnut Valley Cemetery in El Dorado.

He was born to Thomas Herbert and Grace Lipscomb in El Dorado on July 19, 1921. On June 22, 1946 he married Dolores Irene Simmons in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; sons, Richard G. of Wichita, Dennis G. of Augusta; daughters, Jeanne Brooks, Dana Pavey, both of Wichita, Michele Schaefer of St. Louis, Mo.; brother, Leo of Augusta; sister, Louise Baker of Andover; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Lipscomb was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and the El Dorado Moose Lodge.

Memorials are to Butler County Hospice and St. James Catholic Church.

TREWEEKE, MARY

Mrs. Mary Treweeke died this morning, Jan. 27, at her home, on Santa Fe street with the grip. Mrs. Treweeke was born Probus, Eng., 1882 and was married to Mr. Treweeke and then moved to America in 1845. They first settled in Waukegae, Ill., where they lived until they came to Kansas thirty-six years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Treweeke were blessed with thirteen children of which only eight now remain to mourn their mother's death. Mr. Treweeke died thirteen years ago today.

The eight children that survive her were present when she passed away. They are: Misses Hattie and Libbie Treweeke, Mrs. Jennie Lyons, Mrs. Ella Melrose, Billings, Okla., Mrs. Lou James, John, Ben and Richard Treweeke.

LONSINGER, ALBERT LEWIS, JR.

AUTO-TRUCK CRASH FATAL TO AUGUSTAN

Reports were received in Augusta this morning of the death of Albert Lewis Lonsinger, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Arky) Lonsinger, 1710 Moyle, Augusta. The youth's father is overseas with Socony Mobil Oil Company Pipe Line division.

According to available information today, young Lonsinger had taken his mother to the airport in Wichita last evening to board a plane for Spokane, Wash., to visit her daughter, Mrs. Gary White (Betty Lonsinger), before going overseas to join her husband.

Returning to school at Kansas University, late in the evening or early this morning, the Lonsinger car was involved in a smash-up with a semi-truck driven by Wilbur Slattery of Wichita. The truck driver was not seriously injured, but the Augustan was reported killed instantly. The accident occurred near Plymouth, on US-50, eight miles west of Emporia.

Dunsford Ambulance went to Emporia this morning to return the youth's body to Augusta and will announce funeral arrangements later.

LONSINGER SERVICE TO BE ANNOUNCED

Awaiting word from A. L. Lonsinger, sr., who is in Sumatra, the time of the funeral services for Albert Lewis Lonsinger, jr., aged 18, have not been set. Dunsford Funeral home will make the announcement.

Albert Lewis Lonsinger, jr., was born July 29, 1938 in Leon. He was killed in a car-truck accident December 5 near Plymouth, Kas.

Survivors are his father and mother, Albert L. and Zerita Aline Bacon Lonsinger; a sister, Mrs. Betty White, Renton, Wash.; and grandmothers, Mrs. Lura Bacon of Leon and Mrs. Lonsinger of Collinsville, Okla.

The young man was a student at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and he was enroute to Lawrence when the tragedy occurred. He was a well-liked young man and the entire town is saddened by this tragic happening.

He was a member of the Christian church and Triangle fraternity.

LONSINGER RITES HELD FRIDAY

Funeral services for Lewis Lonsinger will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Dunsford chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. Dr. C. William Nichols will conduct the service.

LONSINGER, ALBERT LEE

Former Augustan Albert Lee Lonsinger, 82, Collinsville, Okla., died Wednesday, March 22, at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa., Okla.

His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, at the Collinsville Funeral Home with David Froese officiating. A graveside service will take place at 4 p.m. Friday at the Elmwood Cemetery here.

He was born on April 17, 1912 on a farm near Vera, Okla., as the son of Lewis and Anna Sowers Lonsinger.

After graduation from Vera High School, he moved to western Oklahoma to work during the wheat harvest. In the fall of 1932, he moved to Leon and began working for a private rancher.

On December 20, 1934, Albert married Zerita Alene Bacon. She survives.

In 1940, he went to work for Mobil Oil Company and worked several overseas assignments. He spent 37 years with Mobil retiring in 1977.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Richard of Wichita; a daughter, Betty White of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Bernice Lonsinger of Vera; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

LONSINGER, ZERITA

Zenita A. Lonsinger, 84, Ada, Okla., formerly of Augusta, homemaker, sister of Gladys Smith, Augusta, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000.

Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be available for visitation from 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, at Dunsford Funeral Home.

In addition to her sister, she is survived by her son, Richard Lee Lonsinger, Ada, Okla.; daughter, Betty White, Andover; 5 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

AUGUSTA - Lipscomb, John S., 96, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2007. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Wednesday at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Funeral Service 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.

John was born in Butler County, Kansas on December 10, 1910; he was the son of the late Charles Russell and Amy Effie (Simpson) Lipscomb. He retired as a Unit Operator from Mobil Oil after 42 years. On June 18, 1932 he married Lorraine (Hyde) in Wellington. She preceded him in death. Sisters, Faith Heidelbaugh, Violet Carter and Doris Marshall preceded him in death as well.

His survivors include: daughter, Vicki Hagen and husband Jerry of Tucson, AZ; granddaughters, Joni Quantrille of Adelanto, Ca; and Kristi Hagen of Las Vegas, Nv; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sisters, Ruth Redington of Augusta; and Genevieve Werly of Topeka. Memorials to Christ Lutheran Church or Cottonwood Point.

LIPSCOMB, LORRAINE C.

Lipscomb, Lorraine C., 92, homemaker, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2005.

Lorraine was born in McComb, Ill. on Nov. 22, 1913, she was the daughter of Rexford and Hazel (Seaton) Hyde. On June 18, 1932 she married John Lipscomb in Wellington. He survives. Other surviors include: daughter Vicki Hagen and husband Jerry of Tucson, AZ; granddaughters Joni Quantrille of Adelanto, CA, Kristi Hagen of Las Vegas, NV; 5 great grandchildren.

Visitation Thursday 1-8 p.m. with family present from 4-5 p.m., Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Service 11 a.m. Friday, Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials to Christ Lutheran Church.

VARNER, LOUISE MEECKE

Varner, Louise Meecke, 93, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Augusta, Hutchinson, Winfield and Wichita, homemaker, died Sunday, May 31, 1992. Memorial service 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Kansas City; 3:30 p.m. Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, Augusta.

MITCHELL, JOAN VONDELL

Joan Vondell was born April 23, 1950 at El Dorado, she was a student in Douglass high school, She is survived by her mother Joan;and one sister, Mary Ann. Casket bearers were Steve Mitchell,John Mitchell, John Mauk, Terry Mauk, Larry Mauk, Troy Wheeler, and Bill Smith. Maurice Bigger officiate, Hilyard Funeral Home had charge. Burial in Douglass cemetery.

Joan Vondell Mitchell and her father Lloyd E. Mitchell were killed when the vehicle they were in plunged into the Walnut River when the bridge collapsed, west of Douglass, KS after an over weight truck and trailer crossed the bridge exceeding the weight limit for the bridge.

MITCHELL, LLOYD ELLIOTT

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church of Douglass Sunday, February 28 for Lloyd Elliott Mitchell, 38, and his daughter, Joan Vondell, 15. Mr Mitchell was born August 4, 1926, at Atlanta, Kansas. He lived near Atlanta until his marriage to Koan Mauk June 19, 1948. Since that time he had lived in the Douglass community. He is survived by his wife, Joan, one daughter, Mary Ann: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell; and one brother, Elgie, who resides in Belle Plaine. Casket bearers were Lloyd Smith, Tom Upshaw, Harold Williams, Jim Knowles, Jim Spencer, Bill Miller, Vern Wade and Don Copenhaver.

BRANDLEY, ROBERT H.

Services for Robert H. Brandley, Jr., 53, who died here Monday, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Baird Funeral Chapel, with burial in Cassoday, Kan., Cemetery.

He was born in Chase County July 17, 1911.

Survivors include his widow, Roberta, two daughters, Linda and Jennifer and his mother, Mrs. Mathilda Brandley of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Kirk, Emporia, Kan., and Mrs. Virginia Turner, Richmond, Calif. (Wichita Beacon, Wednesday, August 12, 1964)

CORNWELL, JOHN E.

Funeral services for John E. Cornwell, 28, of 1127 N. Emporia, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home in El Dorado, Kan. The Rev. O. Ray Cook, pastor of First Methodist Church there will officiate. Burial will be at Cassoday, Kan., cemetery.

Mr. Cornwell died early Sunday in a car crash north of Wichita. He was born Oct. 29, 1929, at El Dorado and came to Wichita three years ago.

Survivors include his father, Wesley W. Cornwell, Riverdale, Kan.; five brothers, Harold, Glendale, Ariz., Ray, Lawrence, Ind., Arthur, East St. Louis, Ill., Robert, Robertson, Mo., and Frank stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Topeka, Kan.; and one sister, Mrs. Max Barclay, Kansas City, Mo. GRIGGS, MARY FLORENCE

Services for Mrs. Mary Florence Griggs, 85, who died Friday, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Cassoday Methodist Church.

She was born in Nebraska, and came to the Cassoday area in 1907. She was the widow of George F. Griggs.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mrs. Blanche Cooper, Cassoday.

GRUNDER, WILLIAM S.

Services for William S. Grunder, 70, who drowned in a creek Sunday on his farm near here, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kirby Funeral Home, El Dorado, Kan. Burial will be in Cassoday.

He was born at Carlton, Ohio, and came to this area 22 years ago from Wichita. He was a farmer and stockman, a veteran of World War I and a member of Butler County WWI Barracks.

Survivors include the widow, Thelma, three sons, Don, El Dorado and Jim and Carl, both of Cassoday, two daughters, Mrs. Mary M. Wood, Wichita and Mrs. Novalee Miller, El Dorado, three brothers, Albert, Minerva, Ohio, George, Carlton and Wayne, Philadelphia, Tenn., and a sister, Mrs. Nova Miller, Carlton. HAHN, MYRTA B.

Mrs. Myrta B. Hahn, 85, Cassoday, Kan., mother of three Wichita men, died Monday at El Dorado, Kan. She was born Sept. 3, 1874, at Liberty Center, Ohio.

She married Charles J. Hahn, June 1, 1904, at Liberty Center. She had been a resident of the Cassoday community since 1909. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Lance P. Hahn, 1725 Victor Pl., Clar E. Hahn, 1057 Inverness Dr., Lawson M. Hahn, 3231 Oakland; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cassoday Methodist Church. The Rev. James F. Clark will officiate and burial will be in Cassoday Cemetery.

SWART, JESSIE FERN

Mrs. Jessie Fern Swart, 46, Whitewater, died Sunday.

Born near Potwin, Kan., she resided in Butler County most of her life. Mrs. Swart was a member of Furley Methodist Church and VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her widower, dale M.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Edgars, Whitewater, a son, James C. Elting of the home a sister, Mrs. Berdene Root, Whitewater and four brothers, Orlan and Charles both of Whitewater, William, Garden City, Kan., and Lawrence, Towanda, Kan.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Furley Methodist Church. Burial will be in Holderman cemetery, north of Potwin.
