Raymond Lackey Dies at 71

Raymond G. Lackey, 71, died Thursday at Walnut Valley Manor Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Frank Miller will officiate.

He was born Feb. 18, 1913 in rural Augusta to Hiram and Florence Pearl Taylor Lackey.

He married Maxine Dearling Nov. 19, 1939 in El Dorado. She survives.

Lackey was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and Mystic Tie 74.

Other survivors include, daughters, Joyce Ann Roberts of Wichita and Judith S. Burgess of Liburn, Ga.; a sister, Ruby Clippinger of Augusta; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

W. A. Lackey Dies at 79

W. A. "Bill" Lackey, 79, Valley Center, a brother of Mrs. Emerson Clippinger and Raymond Lackey of Augusta, died Wednesday at the St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the First Baptist Church in Valley Center. Burial will be in Dunlap Cemetery at Rose Hill.

A memorial has been established with the Church.

The retired Kansas Grain Department employee was born Sept. 17, 1903 to Hiram D. and Pearl Taylor Lackey on a farm near Rose Hill.

Other survivors include his wife, Viola; a son, Raleigh of Valley Center; a daughter, Vivian Denison of Leawood; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

LACKEY, HIRAM DANIEL

Hiram D. Lackey was born to Andrew and Phoebe Ann Lackey December 24, 1881 on a farm 4 miles northwest of Rose Hill. He departed this life June 3, 1966 at his home in Wichita.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mary Lackey, two sons, William Lackey of Valley Center and Raymond Lackey of Douglass, one daughter, Ruby Clippinger of Augusta, one brother, George Lackey, Springfield, Colorado, one sister, Clara Dennett of Alliance, North Carolina, 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, two step-sons, two step-daughters, 11 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Hiram was such a good friend, neighbor, father and husband. He was a member of the minisa Golden Age club and has been an active member until his recent illness.

For years Hiram played baseball. His team was the first team to play under the lights at Lawerence Stadium.

Memorial services were held at Dunsford Chapel on June 5, 1966. Dr. William C. Nichols was the officiating minister. Dwight Markley sang "In The Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Lawrence Settergren, organist.

Casketbearers were Roy Boyer, Dale Corn, Harold Kirkpatrick, Melvin Dennett, Edwin Dennett and Lewis Mayfield, Jr.

LACKEY, PHOEBE ANN BRANSON

Lackey Services Held on Tuesday

Funeral services will be held from the Dunsford Chapel tomorrow at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Phoebe Ann Lackey, 94, who died yesterday afternoon at Udall. She had been ill for six weeks.

Mrs. Lackey was born in Taswell County, Ill. and came to Butler County 61 years ago. Mr. Lackey died in January 1944. Her marriage to Andrew Lackey took place October 30, 1879 at Derby.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clara Dennett of Walsh, Colo.; two sons, Hiram D. of Augusta and George A. Springfield, Colo.; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two-great-great-grandchildren.

Interment will be made in Branson Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Emerson Clippinger, Raymond Lackey, William Lackey, Raleigh Lackey, Lewis Mayfield and Terry Dennison. (Augusta Daily Gazette, Augusta, KS ~ Monday, Feb. 18, 1952 ~ Transcribed by Judy Mayfield)

Andrew Lackey Dies of Pneumonia

The death of Andrew Lackey occurred Thursday afternoon after an illness of pneumonia. He was born in Iowa and was 86 years old. Funeral services will be held at the Dunsford Funeral chapel, the time to be announced later. Burial will be made in Branson Cemetery.

Surviving are the widow and these children - Mrs. Clara Ann Dennett, Springfield, Colo.; Hiram D. Lackey of Augusta and George A. Lackey of Springfield, Colo.; others are a brother, Hiram Lackey of Gordon; half-brothers, Newt Green and Giles Green of Augusta. There are nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Lackey came to Butler County 53 years ago and was engaged in farming during his life. He was a member of the 100F Lodge.
