The Recital given today at Mrs. Fannie DeGrass Black's Music rooms followed by a reception and light refreshments was a very pleasant occasion. The pupils acquitted themselves creditably. The singing of seven little girls was particularly pleasing. Those participating in piano solos, duets and six handed pieces, were Anna McIntosh, Marguerite Shea, Jennie Peterson, Eleanor Aikman, Lucile Snyder, Gertrude Smith, Ruth Sandifer, Rhea Clay, Gladys Ellis, Margaret Ewing, Venita Snyder, Lucy Green, Lena Walker, Inez Benson, Edna Elson and De Stevenson. Edna Earll sang a beautiful solo and Charles Makepeace concluded the program with a brilliant piano solo. Mrs. Black has closed all her music classes until September 1. SAPPINGTON - APPLEMAN

Married Sunday, February 14 at the home of her aunt Mrs. E. J. Robbins, Miss Clara Sappington to Ernest E. Appleman. Rev. W. V. Burns officiating.

The bride is a daughter of S. H. Sappington of Ponca City, Oklahoma and is a lovely character. The groom is an excellent young man, a son of T. B. Appleman.

The couple enjoy their honeymoon in a trip to Texas. Many friends hope life's choicest blessings may be theirs. (Walnut Valley Times, February 19, 1904)

HAYMAN, C. A.

C. A. Hayman, who came here from El Dorado some months ago, has had bad luck. There was sickness in the family, then the high water got up to his house and he had to move hurriedly, and now his wife has left him unceremoniously. He has three children, the oldest a boy of about nine years. He took the two younger to relative sin Eureka to care for and will keep the boy with him. Mr. Hayman is at a loss to know the reason of his wife's actions, but is not inclined to do any "bended knee" business and says that he wants notice given that will not be responsible for any bills contracted by her. - Iola Register (Walnut Valley Times, July 3, 1903)

STURDYVIN - ROACH

Married in El Dorado, Saturday, September 12, Mrs. Mary Roach to Ed F. Sturdyvin, both of Whitewater. The bride has been proprietress of the hotel at Whitewater and had charge of the Windsor Hotel at El Dorado last year. The groom has a meat market at Whitewater. ELLET, NETTIE

Mrs. Nellie Ewing gave a handkerchief shower yesterday afternoon for Miss Nettie Ellet and as a result, the bride-to-be has twenty very pretty handkerchiefs. The young ladies brought their thimbles and marked all the handkerchiefs after which dainty refreshments were served. The remainder of the time was passed with music and conversation and a pleasant time was enjoyed by all. Present: Mrs. Arthur Ellet and daughter Marie of Kansas City; Mesdames James Robinson, M. J. Long, C. E. Thompson, Agnes Gensler, Harry Pattison; Misses Mary, Cornelia and Lucile Ellet of Kansas City, Laura Thompson of Ponca City, Okla., Nettie Ellet, Cecil Lelaud, Mary and Janet Gardner, Grace Black, Edna Frazier, Myrtle and Lida Lou Shelden, Lena and Alice Murdock. YOUNG, JENNIE

Mrs. C. W. Harvey was hostess to thirty young ladies yesterday afternoon entertained in honor of Miss Jennie Young who is soon to married. The form of entertainment was novel. Part of the time was occupied in writing a souvenir of the occasion for the guest of honor, "Wistful Wishes and Pleasant Prophecies." Each young lady wrote a wish and a prophecy for Miss Young's future happiness. Miss Young was presented with numerous gifts of pretty linen, dainty china, etc., which were placed in a basket prettily decorated with ribbons and hearts. Refreshments were served and withal it was a very enjoyable occasion. (Walnut Valley Times, June 19, 1903)

SWAIN - PATTISON

Married, at the bride's residence on south Denver street Tuesday evening, June 16, at 8:30 o'clock, Mrs. Josie Pattison to David E. Swain. The ceremony was preformed by Rev. Harkness of the Presbyterian church. After the wedding an elegant supper was served. Mr. Swain and his bride have both resided here for a number of years, are well known and have numerous friends to congratulate them. Present at the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Yates and son, Frank, Geo. F. Fullinwider and wife, Mrs. S. B. Allen, Will Wackerle, wife and daughter, Miss Eva Swain, Will Swain, Miss M ary Esther Tolle; Miss Fannie McClellan, Mr and Mrs. W. F. KINDRED - LINDSEY

Lewis Kindred and Miss Mary E. Lindsey of Keighley were married in El Dorado today by Probaate Judge Glendenning. Mr. Kindred is a teacher in the Keighley schools. To him and his bride the Times as well as a host of other friends extend congratulations and trust that these good young people may have a future full of happiness.
