SKULL FRACTURE FATAL TO MYERS
Visitor Here Dies at St. Luke's Hospital from Injury Received first of week
Virgie Myers, 57 year old steam engineer, who fell from a second story porch while walking in his sleep early Monday
morning, died at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at St. Luke's Hospital. Mr. Myers has been under care at the
hospital since the accident and never regained consciousness. His, is the fifty-fourth accidental or sudden death
in Butler county this year.
Mr. Myers came here October 4, to visit his daughter, Mrs. George Carrier, who lives at 110 East Fourth Street
Avenue. He came here from Scholle, New Mex., where he has been in the employ of the Lewis Construction Company,
of Emporia, for the past seven years. Shortly after midnight Sunday night, Mr. Myers fell from the porch on the
front the Carrier Home. The family had all retired and it is believed that he was walking in his sleep when he
pitched from the porch to the concrete sidewalk underneath. His skull was badly fractured by the fall.
He was immediately taken to the hospital where an operation was performed in an effort to save his life. He grew
steadily worse however, and died yesterday afternoon.
Mr. Myers was born on September 15, 1871, at Texas County, Mo. He was married to Rose Beasley, on July 19, 1896.
To this union nine children were born. Besides Mrs. Carrier, he is survived by four sons, Edwin, Harold, Roy all
of El Dorado and Charles of West Plains, Mo., two daughters, Ruby Myers and Mrs. Jack grant, Rosalia; and his father,
A. Myers, Osborne, Ark.
The funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Christian Church of Florence. Burial
will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery. The Wigginton Funeral Home is caring for the body. (The El Dorado Times, October

R. A. (Rube) Minor Services Friday
Funeral services for R. A. (Rube) Minor, 71, 711 South Alleghany, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Assembly
of God church. The Rev. Anthony Benigas will officiate and insterment will be in the Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Mr. Minor died Wednesday morning at Wesley Medical center, Wichita.
Born January 2, 1900, at Pierce City, Missouri, he came to El Dorado as a child. He was married here to Edith B.
Holstin, June 8, 1922. They moved to Shawnee, Okla., in 1927 and returned to El Dorado in 1943.
Mr. Minor retired in 1965 as a foreman for the State Highway commission. He was a member of the Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Phillip Sowers, Wichita; one brother, George Robet Minor,
Carlton, Ore., two sisters, Mrs. Bessie G. Bush, Sacremento, calif., and Mrs. Edna M. Jones, Ponca City, Okla.,
six grandchildren and six great-grandchidlren.
One sister is deceassed.

Former Resident is Killed in Oklahoma
Mrs. G. W. Minor, of Konowa, Okla., a former resident of El Dorado was fatally injured in an automobile accident
at Ponca City, Okla., Monday. She died early the following morning. The former El Dorado woman was 69 years old
and lived here for 13 years.
According to information reaching here, Mrs. Minor was crushed against a tree by an automobile driven by her son
as he was attempting to turn the car around at his home where his mother had been visiting for a week.
The body was brought to El Dorado where funeral services were held this afternoon at the Byrd Funeral Home with
Rev. Mr. Anderson, pastor of the Holiness Church at Ponca City, officiating. Interment was made in Belle Vista
Cemetery.
Mrs. Minor was born on March 30, 1865, in Ray County, Mo., and was married in 1890. She came to Kansas from Missouri.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, George Minor of Shawnee, Okla., and R. M. Minor of Konowa and two daughters,
Mrs. Edna Schreckengaust of Ponca City, and Mrs. Bessie Harms of Modesto, Calif. Another son and daughter preceded
her in death.
At the services this afternoon two organ selections, "Some Golden Daybreak" and "The Old Rugged
Cross," were sung. Pallbearers were: John Holstin, Lawrence Pratt, D. Bealer, Orville Hudson, James Minks

Services Set for Mrs. Rube Minor
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel for Mrs. Rube (Edith) Minor, 72, of
711 South Alleghany, who died Monday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Mrs. Minor was born Jan. 13, 1904, at Cottonwood Falls, the daughter of Albert and Mary Ellen Cartee Holstin. She
moved to El Dorado with her parents in 1918 and was married to Rube Minor at El Dorado, June 8, 1922. The family
moved to Tecumseh, Okla., in 1927 and then in 1943 returned to El Dorado. Mr. Minor died Aug. 4, 1971.
Mrs. Minor was a member of the Assembly of God Church, the W.M.C. and the Grandmothers Club and was co-leader of
the Missionettes.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Mary) Sowers of Wichita, two brothers, John Holstin of 641 North Alleghany
and Jay Holstin of 423 Oil Hill; three sisters, Myrtle Hiedeman of 113 South Topeka, Mrs. May Strain of Wichita
and Mrs. Margaret Wright of Edmore, Mich., four grandchildren, Shirley Garrison of Topeka, Jim Shaw and Bill Shaw,
both of Wichita and Bobby Shaw of Pinder Army Base in Germany, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death also by her parents and two brothers. (El Dorado Times, September 15, 1976)
Ava Marie Metzger of El Dorado passed away Friday evening, February 6, 2004 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital
in Wichita having reached the age of 78.
Mrs. Metzger was born December 10, 1925 in Sharon, Kansas, the daughter of Royal and Marguerite (Stone) Schnelle.
She grew up on a farm near Sharon. She graduated from Medicine Lodge High School. She graduated from nurse's college
in Oklahoma City, OK and began working as a RN for a doctor's clinic in Wichita.
She was united in marriage to Leon J. Metzger on November 4, 1972 in Wichita. They lived in Wichita a few years
before moving out to the country south of Towanda in 1974. They later moved to the Hopkins Switch area in 1999.
Ava worked with Leon in sales for many wonderful years before they opened and operated the Economy Hearing Aid
store.
Ava is a member of the Church of Christ of Augusta. Ava loved to sew, especially suits and coats. She was known
for seeing something on a clothing rack and going home and making it even better than the one at the store. She
enjoyed traveling, cooking for family and friends, and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Leon of the home; one son, Royal and his wife Kim Jones of El Dorado; special friend,
Colleen Harris and her husband Darwin of El Dorado; five brothers, Howard Schnelle of Labette, KS, Merle Schnelle
of Stockton, MO, Dennis Schnelle of Meade, KS, Lyle Schnelle of Apple Valley, CA, and Allen Schnelle of Medicine
Lodge, KS; two sisters, Ethel McDaniel of Medicine Lodge and Marguerite Schnelle of Wichita; two grandchildren,
Shannon Gabel of Topeka and Brandon Sloan of Wichita, and great-grandson, Duncan Gabel of Topeka. She was preceded
in death by her parents, one brother John Schnelle, and one sister Willa Mae Magruder.
The celebration of Ava's life ceremony will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at the Church
of Christ in Augusta, KS. Interment will be in Belle Vista Cemetery, El Dorado, KS. (Taken from funeral announcement)
