Mrs. Lucinda Makin died at her home near Sycamore Springs September 7 after an affliction of five years, heart disease. She was a devoted mother and affectionate wife, the mother of nine children all of whom survive her except one son. She was loved and respected and her friends and neighbors sincerely mourn her. Lucinda Barrett was born in Indiana in 1848, was married to Matthew Makin in 1867, came to Kansas in 1871 and has since resided in Chase and Butler counties. (Walnut Valley Times, Sept. 19, 1902)
The sickness and death of little Gertrude McCormick was not known in this neighborhood until after she was laid in the little grave. Her father who lives in Colorado has the sympathy of the entire community. (Walnut Valley Times, December 4, 1902)
Rosalyn A. Miller, 69, Augusta, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2007.
Visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Headley Funeral Chapel; Rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta.
Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007.
She was born in Lyons on July 22, 1937, the daughter of the late John and Marie Bartel. She was a registered nurse for over 35 years, retiring in 1996. On May 23, 1960 she married Chuck Miller. She is survived by her husband of 47 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by; son, Charlie Miller and Brenda Trimble, Wichita; daughters, Julie and husband Paul Schimmelpfenig, Wichita, and Jill and husband Bill Keazer, Augusta; brother, Ronald John Bartel, Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren, Galen, Aaron, Chelsea, and Lauren Miller, Brice, Jessica and Brock Keazer, and Sara Weller, great-grandchildren, Gage, Tresa, and Addy Weller; pets: Jack, Maggie and Lola.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Bartel.
