Richard Johnson Dies, Rites at 10:30 on Friday
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Friday afternoon at the Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel for Richard W. "Rick"
Johnson, 85,,'who died at Knutson Manor at El Dorado Wednesday. The Rev. John S. Saville will conduct the
services . Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Richard W. "Rick" Johnson was the son of Theodore and Emma (Christianson) Johnson. He was married to
Ines Knupp at Independence on Dec., 24, 1907.
He came to this county in 1921 from Ranger, Tex:, and was a member of the United Methodist church, ,was a past
Exalted Ruler of the Elks and an
honorary life member.
Survivors include his widow; a son, Fred E. Johnson of El Dorado; a daughter, Mrs. Beulah V. Black of Augusta;
a brother, Harry R. Johnson of Bellaire, Mich.; two sisters. Mrs. Guy Rowland of Warren, Pa .. and Mrs. B. H. Kerr
of Jupiter, Fla.; one grandson, Phillip of Seattle Wash., and one great-grandson
He was preceded in death by a sister.

Dies At 87
Ines K. Johnson, 87, 427 Akron, died today at the Intermediate Care Facility of the Augusta Medical Complex Inc.
Services will be at 10:30 a. m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. James Little will officiate and burial
will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends may call tomorrow between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Dunsford's.
She was born April 5, 1891 in Warren.Pa., to Jacob and Nora Gibney Knupp. She married Richard Walter Johnson Dec.
24, 1907 at Independence. They came to Augusta in 1921 from Ranger. Texas. He preceded her in death June 30, 1971.
She was a member of the Augusta United Methodist Church. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and served
as past worthy matron.
Survivors include her son, Ed Johnson, EI Dorado; a daughter Beulah Black. Augusta and two grandsons.

John Hutter Funeral Set For Saturday At AHS Gym
The high school gymnasium named in his honor three years ago will be site of a Saturday morning funeral for John
C. Hutter, former football-basketball-track coach here.
Hutter, the school's winningest basketball coach with a record of 340-121-1, died yesterday at the St. Francis
Regional Medical Center in Wichita at the age of 66.
His funeral will begin at 10:30. a.m. Saturday in the high school gym. Rev. Thomas Kelly, assisted, by Rev. Amos
Williams, will officiate, Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorials to a high school scholarship fund and/or the Augusta Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) have been
suggested by the family.
John Calvin Hutter was born here Jan.28, 1917 to Andrew Clinton and Flora Ethel Sapp Hutter.
His first wife, the former Thelma R. Thompson, died Feb.13 1970. His second wife, Loventrice, survives.
The teacher-coach also leaves three sons: John Jr. of Glenview, Ill., Tom of Yukon, Okla.; and Clint Of Oklahoma
City, Okla.; two brothers, Clinton and Joe, both of Augusta; a sister, Edith Budette of Ozark, Mo., and six grandchildren.
After coaching here from 1944 to 1966 Hutter coached at Hoisington before retiring to Great Bend in 1976.
"When I came to Augusta, the high school had only two basketballs," Hutter said at the March 4, 1981
gym dedication ceremony during a sub-state basketball tourney. "The junior high basketball team had only one
basketball. There were 13 football jerseys and they were black. My wife sewed patches on to keep. them usable.
If the other team was going to, wear their dark jerseys, we had to wear our white, practice jerseys."
Hutter never had a state champion in basketball but came close several times. His only state championship came
in track in 1956.
Hutter coached the AHS Orioles to two undefeated seasons and 27 straight victories between 1957 and and 1959. The
'57 and '58 teams were undefeated, but there was no state playoff system.
Clare Patterson Jr., a former pupil of coach Hutter, said, "He taught us to be good sports. When we lost,
we were to think about what we did wrong and why we lost.. More than anything else, I think he taught. us not.
to make mistakes."
Former school board president Frank Miller played. on one of the football teams coached by Hutter. Miller said
Hutter was a fair disciplinarian with a "natural gift" to bring out the best in young athletes.

McCAULEY, WILLIAM H.
W. H. McCAULEY, PIONEER AUGUSTAN DIES SATURDAY
William H. McCauley, a pioneer resident of the Augusta community, died in Wichita hospital at Wichita Saturday
night at 11:30. He was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, September 25, 1868 and was 62 years, seven months and 21 days
old when he died.
Mr. McCauley was married to Miss Nora Alexander 41 years ago. Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Ralph
McCauley, of Augusta, five grandchildren and one foster sister, Mrs. Walter Isenhart, of Blackwell, Okla. One son
was accidentally killed in Wichita several years ago.
Mr. McCauley lived on a farm about six miles southwest of Augusta from the time he was eight years old till about
thirteen years ago, when he moved to town.
He was a member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services will be at the Methodist church tomorrow morning at 10 a. m., conducted by Rev. W.H. Moore. Burial
will be in Elmwood cemetery. Dunsford mortuary is in charge.

Mrs. W. H. (Nora) McCauley Dies At Her Home Today
The death of Mrs. W. H. (Nora) McCauley, 82, occurred at 6 o'clock this morning at her home. Her son, Ralph, survives.
Mr McCauley's death occurred May 16, 1931, on Augusta. The family came to Kansas from Tennessee in 1882. She was
a member of the Methodist church.
Mrs. McCauley was born May 1, 1867 in Macon county,Tennessee, the daughter of Elizabeth Carr and James T. Alexander.
two brothers, Dr. T. F. Alexander of Wichita and J. M. Alexander of Wichita Falls, Tex., and a sister, Mrs. Mac
Myers of Augusta, survive.
Services will be announced by the Dunsford Funeral home tomorrow.

TREWEEKE, MARY ELIZABETH
Treweeke, Mary Elizabeth, retired bookkeeper, passed away on August 7, 2007 at the age of 98. Memorial service
10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 11, Prairie Homestead. Elizabeth was born in Augusta, KS on July 22, 1909. She attended
Wichita Business College and spent most of her adult life in Wichita. Elizabeth worked for many years for the Rounds
and Porter Lumber Co. in the accounting department. She retired in 1972. Elizabeth was a member of First United
Methodist Church in Wichita and did volunteer work at Wesley Hospital and with Meals on Wheels. She is survived
by her niece, Karen Rickard of Arlington, TX and two nephews, Rod Kaufman of Lawrence, KS and John Kaufman of Augusta,

Daniel Douglas McDougal, was born March 22, 1858, in Boston and answered the final summons from his home in
Rock, Kansas, March 5, 1922.
He was educated in the schools of his native state and early chose the career of a teacher. Heeding the call of
the west he came to Butler County, Kansas in 1884, where success crowned his work as an instructor. In copleteing
his professional training he pursued his studies at Kansas State - Normal at Emporia. It was while conducting a
school in North Butler county tha he t met and won for his bride, Miss Ella Varner. They married at DeGraff, May
4, 1890. Their home was near Augusta until January 1902 when they moved to Rock to the home from which he was called
to his last reward.
As an infant he was dedicated to God in Baptism and his life has been one of faith. He united with Economy M.E.
Church near Pontiac and later transferred to Rock. As Sunday school superintendent and leader of the Gospel Team
he has devoted his talents to the work of the church. The patience shown in the closing months of his suffering
testify his enduring faith. Often he voiced his testimony, " WE have here no abiding City", but we seek
one to come. His soul stirred even to the closing days in answer to songs which were sung at home.
Mr. McDougal was a member of Douglass Lodge No. 151, A. F. & A. M., having been made a mason in March 1915.
The community looses a citizen respected by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory are: the widow, foster children, Harry Stone and family of Douglass, Raymond Gray
and wife of Rock, and other relatives and a host of friends.

Bost Service Held At Douglass
Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Bost, 84, were held this afternoon at the Hilyard funeral home in Douglass with
interment in the mausoleum at Augusta. She had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ollie Wise, at Douglass.
She also survived by two sons, Frank of Portland, Ore., and Otto of Canada.
Surviving brothers and sister are; Charles, Ed and Frank Varner of Augusta; George of Sioux City, Ia., and Mrs.
Ella Reed of Rock.
Mrs. Bost was born in Wayne county, Ill. Her husband died a number of years ago.

Funeral Rites Friday For Mrs. Ella Reed
Mrs. Ella Reed, 83, wife of Lee Reed of Rock died yesterday morning at her home. Funeral services will be held
tomorrow at 2 p. m. from the Rock Methodist church. Rev. Oscar Magnussen will be in charge. Nephews will be pall
bearers. Burial will be in the Elmwood mausoleum here. Dunsford Funeral home is in charge.
Mrs. Reed was the former Ella Varner, daughter of Butler county early day settlers. She was born at DeSota, Ill,
the daughter of Jesse and Olive Varner. She was married to Lee Reed, October 19, 1943, and had lived at Rock for
more than 50 years. She was a member of the Methodist church there. She is the last of the Varner family.
Besides her husband she leaves two men she reared in her home as sons, although they are not adopted. They are
Harry Stone of Douglass and Raymond Gray of Winfield, besides nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock this afternoon from the Dunsford chapel for Mrs. Myrtle Alexander, 84,
who died Feb. 6 in Wichita Falls, Tex.. Dr. C. H. Hamm, Pastor of the First Methodist church, was in charge. Burial
was in Elmwood cemetery.
She was the widow of Marshall Alexander who died Oct. 5, 1954 at Wichita Falls, Tex. Her sister, Mrs. J. J. Wilson,
resides at 321 No. Grove in Wichita.
Mrs. Alexander, a former resident of Wichita, had resided in Texas for 40 years. She was member of the Methodist
church.

MRS. E. A. ALEXANDER DIES AT HOME OF HER DAUGHTER
Mrs. E. A. Alexander of Wichita died this morning at 2:45 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Treweeke, in Wichita.
Mrs. Alexander led an interesting life and came to this state from Tennessee in a caavan of 10 covered wagons in
1882.She was born in Macon county, Tennessee, December 2, 1842, and was more than 90 years old at the time of her
death. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Nora McCauley and Mrs. Mac Myers of Augusta, mrs. Mary Treweeke
and Dr. T. F. alexander of Wichita, Rev. G. E. Alexander of Webb City, Mo., J. M. Alexander of Wichita Falls, Tex.,
and Dr. W. M. Alexander of Nashville, Tenn.
Thre are two sisters, Mrs. lou adams of Stillwater, Okla., Mrs. J. J. Howell of Hartsville, Tenn, 17 grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church here with Dr. Miller of the College
Hill Methodist church, Wichita and Dr. W. H. Moore of Augusta, conducting the services. Burial will be in the Elmwood

Barbara J. Elliott Newman, 71, of Wichita, and formerly of Augusta, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999 in Wichita.
Visitation is today from 2-8 p. m. at Dunsford Chapel. Services will be Friday, July 30, 1999 at 1 p. m. at Dunsford
Chapel with Father Michael Baldwin of Vincent DePaul Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
She was born at Mulvane on Nov. 4, 1927to Geoffrey Boucher and Ruby Boone. In 1948, she graduated from Susan B.
Allen Nursing School.She worked with Butler county Community College to get a nursing program started in the 1960's.
She retired after 23 years at Susan B. Allen Hospital, where she was Supervisor and Director of Nursing from 1961
to 1982. She was President of District 10, Nurses Assocation.
She was a former resident of both Augusta and El Dorado.
She is survived by: son, Michael Elliott of Houston;daughter Betty Elliot Weltz of Andover; brothers, Rolly Boucher
of Augusta and Milford Boucher of Latham; Sister, Aileen Leben of Wichita; and grandchilren, Michael Weltz, Ryan
Weltz, Elizabeth Weltz, Erin Elliott and Adam Elliott.

Broomfield Services Held Friday Afternoon
After an illness of 20 weeks, John V. Broomfield, 81, died at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday at his home on North Ohio street.
He was born in Jaseman county, Kentucky, December 2, 1859, the son of Martha and Nelson Broomfield. He was married
to Leila Ryans on November 4, 1900 at Unionville, Mo. Surviving children are a daughter, Edrie, and three sons,
Don and Forest of Augusta, and James of Clearwater.
Mr. Broomfield came to Butler county in 1908 from Clearwater. While active in life he was a farmer.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p. m. in the Dunsford chapel. Rev. Edwin G. Michael, pastor of the Christian
church will conduct the service with interment in Elmwood cemetery.

Henderson Death Announced Today
The death of Mrs. Willa Marie Henderson, 26, occurred yesterday in St. Francis hospital, Wichita. She entered the
hospital Thursday and underwent surgery Friday morning. The family home is at 1038 Pine Ridge, Wichita. Dunsfords
are in charge of services and time and date had not been set at press time today- services may be held Monday at
the Christian church.
Mrs. Henderson was born September 6, 1929, the daughter of Marie Boucher and Herman Ingold. She was married to
James W. Henderson, february 7, 1947 in Augusta. He survives as do the following children- Janice Marie, seven;
Carolyn, two years, nine months; Gregory Lawrence, three and one-half months. Her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Herman
Ingold, Augusta; and brothers, Chester Ingold, Augusta; Cecil Ingold, Rose Hill, also survive.
She was a member of the Christian church at Wichita and had resided here before her marriage.

Andrew Clinton Hutter Dies Last Night After Long Illness
Andrew Clinton Hutter, 53, veteran White Eagle worker died at Allen Memorial hospital at El Dorado last night after
a long illness. He was forced to quit work at the local refinery in March 1937, due to sickness. He was taken to
the El Dorado hospital five days ago. His wife died may 13, 1937.
He was born July 3, 11885 near Douglass and lived here most of his life. He is survived by five daughters, Mrs.
Ethel Wilson, Mrs. Viola Stone, Mrs. Maude Stroud, Edith and Bertha Hutter all of Augusta; three sons, Clinton,
John and Joe of Augusta, and two nephews, Clarence Walworth and Paul Jones, Augusta; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Dunsford chapel. Burial will be in the Elmwood
cemetery.

Mrs. Andrew C. Hutter Dies At Her Home Last Evening
Mrs. Flora Ethel Hutter, 46, died at her home just east of Augusta at 6 o'clock Thursday evening after a week's
illness. She had been in poor health for a number of months. She was born in Augusta, May 10, 1891 and had been
a resident here all her life. She was a member of the Haverhill Christian church.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew C.; five daughters, Mrs. O.S. Wilson, Mrs. M.G. Stone, and Mrs. Delbert
Stroud, all of Augusta, and Edith Andoria and Bertha Mae who live at home; three sons, Andrew C. Jr., John C. and
Joe Henry all of who live at home. Also her mother, Mrs. A.E. Sapp, Augusta; two sisters, Mrs. George Tatgmeyer,
Augusta; Mrs. J.R. Cummings, Burrton; three brothers, William and Ralph Sapp of Augusta, and John Sapp, Haverhill.
Also two granddaughters and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 0'clock at the Dunsford Funeral home with Edwin G.
Michael, pastor of the Augusta Christian church in charge. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Edrie Broomfield, 84, formerly of Augusta, died Thursday Jan. 6, at the Holton Community Hospital, Holton.
Funeral services will be at 2 p/ m., Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.Burial will be in Elmwood
Cemetery, Augusta.
She was born Nov.22, 1909, the daughter of John and Leila (Ryans) Broomfield.
She spent most of her life in the Augusta community, she graduated from Augusta High School in 1931. She was employed
as a printer for Cady's Printing Co., in Augusta.
Edrie was a member of the First Baptist Church, Augusta.
Survivors include three nieces, Lois Flewelling of Holton, Helen Addington of Tulsa, Okla., and Marjorie Broomfield
of Jay, Okla.
A memorial has been established with the Arthritus Foundation.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at the Dunsford Chapel for Walter John Urban, 79,
who died Wednesday at the Allen Memorial hospital in El Dorado. The Rev. Daniel E. Bailey will conduct the services.
Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Walter John Urban was born Feb. 7, 1887 at Appleton, Wisc., the son of Henry and Ida (Lempke) Urban. He was married
to Vida Katherene Seneker on March 12, 1911 at Okene, Okla.
He was a retired farmer and came to Augusta from the Derby area where he had lived since 1900. He was member of
the Methodist church.
Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Geneva Holderman of Augusta; a son, Forrest Urban of Augusta; a sister,
Mrs. Carrie Smith of Enterprize and two grandchildren.
A sister preceded him in death.

She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Geneva Holderman, 69, 241 East Kelly, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.

She was born Dec. 31, 1911, in Augusta to Walter and Vida Seneker Urban.
She was a waitress at Lehr's Restaurant before retirement. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 at the First Christian church for Ralph Clarence Sapp,
71, who died Saturday while fighting a shed fire at his home at 207 E. Kelly. The Rev. Daniel E. Bailey will conduct
the services. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Ralph Clarence Sapp was born Oct. 7, 1896 at Haverhill, the son of Calvin and Andora ( Brasington) Sapp. He was
married to Vera Vrowell in Wichita on June 25, 1924. He lived in Augusta during his entire lifetime and was member
of the First Christian church.
Survivors include his widow; three sons, Bill of Lumberton, North Carolina; Bob of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Dick
of Glendora, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Osa Cummings of Kinsley; and eight grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be 2 p. m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, 1600 State street. Burial will be in
Elmwood cemetery and Rev. Jon Grissom will officiate. Dunsford Funeral Home has the arrangements.
Sapp was born March 23, 1907 in Illinois.
On June 25, 1924, she and Ralph Clarence Sapp were married in Wichita. He preceded her in death.
Sapp was a seamstress and interior decorator. She was a member of the First Christian Church and Loyal Breams class.
Her survivors include: sons, Bill of Lumberton, N. C., Bob of Salt Lake City, Dick of Hesperia, Calif., half brother,
Fred Crowell, half sister, Mrs. wells, both of Pomona, calif.; eight grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.
