BUCKHANON, JEWEL

Jewel Buckhanon, 70, Augusta, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006.

Visitation with family from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17; services at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, both at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.

Jewel was born in Wetumka, Okla., on Oct. 28, 1935, the daughter of Andrew Marcles and Mamie Victoria (Stout) Westerman. She worked as a housekeeper at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado. On Oct. 6, 1951, she married Jimmy Buckhanon in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He survives.

Other survivors include: daughters, Judy King and her husband, Joe and Janell Charlet and her husband, Art, all of Augusta; son, Charley Genter and his wife, Michelle of El Dorado, sister, Geneva Patterson and Corene Basquez and Jacqueline Rogers, all of Augusta; Wilma Crockett of Susanville, Calif., and Maxine Rogers of Wetumka, Okla,; grandchildren, Tanya Austin (Kevin) Mallory, Macy, and Hunter Genter, step-grandchildren, Wendy (Jimmy) Mills, Keith (Robyn) Tabing; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Carl Raymond Penrod.

Memorial contributions may be made to Victory in the Valley of Home Health Care Connections Hospice.

COOPER, IRA MILTON

Ira Milton Cooper, 83, of El Dorado, retired Mechanic, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 27, 1987 at the El Dorado Nursing Center. Service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Campbell Funeral Home of Eureka. Memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.

He was born Jan. 10, 1904, in Corder, Mo., the son of James B. and Adeline V. (Forney) Cooper. When he moved to Kansas he lived at Climax and Eureka. He married Mary E. Cross, March 5, 1929, at Climax. He moved to El Dorado three years ago.

He worked as a farm machinery mechanic in Eureka until he retired. He was a member of Eureka First Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife, Mary Elizabeth, sons, Jim, Jack, Mike all of El Dorado, daughter, Nancy Mattingly, Patsy Armstrong, both of Overland Park, Mary Ada Owens of McLoud, Okla., 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, Dec. 23, 1987)

DALLKE, ABE M.

Rites were held Sunday at the Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home for Abe M. Dallke, Burns route one, who died February 18 in Allen Memorial Hospital. The Rev. James S. Clark and Ronald Johnson, a student pastor, officiated and interment was in Ridgeway cemetery at DeGraff. Mrs. Fred Burr and Mrs. L. W. Newcomer were the musicians. The casket bearers were C. A. Kimberlin, William Hanson, Eldon Locke, Perry Powers, Herbert Hoy and Jim Heymann.

A retired farmer, Mr. Dallke was born January 14, 1887 near McPherson and since 1894 he had lived in the Cole Creek and DeGraff communities. He was married to Amy E. Kimberlin at Newton, January 18, 1911, and was a member of the DeGraff Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are Mrs. Dallke, a son, LeRoy of Chanute, two brothers, Pete and John J. Dallke of El Dorado, a sister, Mrs. Lena Holzrichter of Hooker, Okla., and a grandson, Randy Steven Dallke of Chanute. (Butler County News, Feb. 25, 1960)

DICKENS, EDITH M.

Mrs. Edith M. Dickens, 82, who died February 18 at her home, 825 North Walnut, was born at Navasota, Texas, July 20, 1877 and was married to John Lewis Dickens in 1895. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are Mr. Dickens; two sons and a daughter, John W. Dickens of Chicago, Ill., the Rev. Jay Boyd Dickens and Mrs. Fannie Lloyd of the home; and a sister, Mrs. Nattie Williams, Burkburnett, Texas.

Services were Saturday at the Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home, the Rev. F. K. Simon of Wichita and L. S. Atchison, assistant pastor of the El Dorado First Baptist church, officiating. Mrs. Amos Marsh and Vertie Tomlin were the musicians. The casket bearers were Vertie Tomlin, Thad Huggins, Joe Hayes, Calvin Garland, John Gunter, Jesse Kilpatrick, David Turrentine and Willis Robnett. Interment was in Sunset Lawns. GREEN, HARRY R.

Harry R. Green, 44, died August 24 at his home in Everett, Wash. Services for the former Cassoday resident were held at the Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel Thursday. Rev. C. M. Nutter conducted the service. Interment was in Cassoday cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers were Robert Bond, Mike Coash, Joseph Moyers, Wendell Edwards, Charles Belcher and Michael Prohodsky.

Born July 24, 1932 in Cassoday, Mr. Green was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Green (Pearl Morledge). He attended Cassoday and Teterville schools and Eureka High School.

Mr. Green had been with the Boeing company engineering department in New Orleans moving to Washington in 1968. He had not worked since he became disabled in 1974.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in El Dorado and had served in the US Air Force for 10 years.

Survivors include his father, John G. Green, Russell and a sister, Mrs. Larry Brown (Caroline). His mother died in 1942. (Butler County News, August 27, 1976)

HAIGLER, NICOLE CHIRSTAN

El Dorado - Nicole Chirstan Haigler, daughter of WilliamJ. And Pamela K. Haigler, was stillborn Friday. Service 4 p.m. today, Leon (Kan.) Cemetery.

HARDER, ELWOOD LEONARD "BUD"

Elwood Leonard "Bud" Harder, 68, Wichita, retired truck driver, died on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Parkview Baptist Church in Wichita.

His survivors include: wife, Mary, children, Lisa Skopec, Jeff Harder, Tammi Hogoboom, Troy Harder, and Danny McCoy, all of El Dorado, and Scott Harder of Leon, sisters, Hilda Wayman of Whitewater, Margaret Tilley of Augusta, Gale Chapman of Independence and Donna Regnary of Wellington; brother, Bill Gale of Wichita, 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established to the Bud Harder Memorial Fund.

HARSH, VELMA C.

Velma C. Harsh, 84, rural Cassoday, died Tuesday morning at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Cassoday United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Cassoday Cemetery.

She was born March 21, 1896 in Mayetta, Kan., the daughter of Dr. Robert and Charlotte (Slack) Robson. On Aug. 25, 1921 she married Ross Harsh in Holton, Kan. He died Feb. 28, 1969. She taught at the Cassoday Grade School and was a member of the Cassoday United Methodist Church and the U. M. W.

Survivors include one son, Robert L., Cassoday, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Charlotte Willhite, Leon; one sister, Fannie Robson, Wichita, three grandsons, Bob Harsh, Leob, Terrie Harsh, Florence, and Kenneth Willhite, Rosalia and one great-granddaughter, Erica Harsh, Lebo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister.

HARWICK, MARY O.

Mary O. Harwick, 55, of 920 River Road, died early Sunday morning at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kirby Morris Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services in the Benton Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Bloodland, Mo., the daughter of Samuel J. and Lola (Wagner) Steward. On Oct. 23, 1946, she was married to Keith Harwick in Anthony, Kan. She had lived in the El Dorado and Leon area since 1934. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Keith of the home, three daughters, Dixie Knight, Linda Duncan and Bonnie Newsom all of El Dorado, a half-brother, Newt Steward of Richland, Mo.; one sister, Freda Hicks of El Dorado and six grandchildren, Craig and Joy Duncan, Keri and Jeri Knight and Melissa and Kristy Newsom all of El Dorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.

HAYES, JESSIE L.

Jessie L. Hayes, 89, a former El Dorado resident, died Tuesday morning at a local nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

She was born April 15, 1894 at El Dorado the daughter of Wesley and Martha Storey Brickley. She spent almost her entire life in El Dorado, except for about 10 years when she lived in Arkansas. In 1975 she moved to Wichita to be near her daughter.

On Nov. 29, 1910 she married James Virgil Hayes at El Dorado. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha Bagget, of Wichita; 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Several nephews and nieces also survive.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sons. (El Dorado Times, April 27, 1983)

HOUSE, LESTER D. "SHORTY"

Rev. Lester D. "Shorty" House, 81 a retired Pentecostal Holiness minister, died Sunday. Service is set for 2 p.m. at Potts Chapel in Independence.

Surviving are: wife, Flora, sons George, Raymond, and Clarence all of Independence, Lester of Bell Gardens, Calif., and Jesse of Dewey, Okla.; stepsons, Arthur Foraker and Benjamin Foraker, both of Independence; daughters, Betty Crigger of Rodeo, Calif., Lola Monroe, of El Dorado, Marian Boyle of Arkansas City and Helen Hise of Independence; stepdaughters, Elva Simmons, Jackie Hise, and Mary Foraker, all of Independence, and Peggy Miller of Overland Park, brother Hershel of Independence. JOHNSON, E. WALLACE JR.

E. Wallace Johnson, Jr., 79, of rural Towanda, died February 14, 2006 at his home.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at McGill Cemetery in rural Potwin. (El Dorado Times, February 16, 2006)

KELLEY, JERRY G.

Jerry G. Kelley, 45, of Coffeyville, a native of El Dorado, died Tuesday night at an Osawatomie hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ford Funeral Home chapel in Coffeyville. The Rev. Lawrence W. Life, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethan church will officiate. Burial will be in Robbins Cemetery, Coffeyville.

Mr. Kelley was born Nov. 1, 1921 at El Dorado. He was educated in the local schools and was graduated from El Dorado Junior College. He served in the United States Navy air corps for three years. Upon returning to El Dorado, he was employed by the Skelly Oil Company over 16 years.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Ethelyn Kelley, his widow, Helene; two daughters, Jill Ann of the home and Mrs. William W. Hood Jr. of Tulsa.

He was preceded in death by his father, the late Dr. C. M. Kelley. (El Dorado Times April 5, 1967)

KELLEY, RUTH

Augusta, Kan. - Mrs. Ruth Kelley, 70, a resident here 47 years, died Saturday. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

She was born at Burnt Prairie, Ill., and came here in 1919 from Hickory Ridge, Ark. She was a member of the Salvation Army.

Survivors include her widower, Richard W.; a daughter, Mrs. Edna Nessler, Augusta; and a brother, Orval Dunlap, Hickory Ridge. (The Wichita Eagle, Sunday, January 1, 1967)

KEMPER, JAMES O.

Augusta, Kan. - Services for James O. Kemper, 84, former resident here who died Wednesday at Colorado Springs, where he lived more than 20 years, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dunsford Funeral Home here.

He was born in West Virginia. He owned Kemper Chevrolet Agency here before moving to Colorado. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Emma; two sons, Clarence, Augusta and Lonnie, Roswell, N.M; and a sister, Mrs. Lula Lewis, Colorado Springs. (The Wichita Eagle, Saturday, May 13, 1967)

KENYON, FRANCES LOUISE

Services are being held at 2:30 this afternoon at the Dunsford Chapel in Augusta for Mrs. Frances Louise Kenyon, 85 who died in the Stafford Nursing Home at Wichita Tuesday. Dr. Owen McClure will conduct the services. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Mrs. Kenyon was born February 19, 1881 in Butler County, a daughter of Isaac and Margaret (Smith) Morgan. She was married to Abner H. Kenyon in 1901 in Butler county. He preceded her in death in 1939.

Mrs. Kenyon was a resident of Augusta before moving to Wichita in 1940. She was a member of the College Hill Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Vivian Ernest of Augusta; Mrs. Myrtle Edwards of McPherson and Mrs. Hazel Allen of Wichita, a brother, Willard Morgan of Leon; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Wheeler of Assiniboia, Canado; Mrs. Sadie Richard and Mrs. Lois Dermody of Wichita, and Mrs. Jeanette Gamble of El Dorado. KING, MRS. WESLEY M.

Mrs. Wesley M. King, 87, of 319 South High street, a life long resident of Butler county, died early today at Allen Memorial Hospital after an illness of two months.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Methodist church, with the Rev. C. M. Nutter, staff member at that church, officiating. Burial will be in the Cassoday cemetery.

Mrs. King was born June 19, 1880 west of Cassoday. She was married to Mr. King near Cassoday on April 4, 1904. He died on Feb. 9 of this year. She had lived in El Dorado since 1947 and prior to that in the Burns and Cassoday areas.

Mrs. King was a member of the First Methodist Church and of the Cheer-up Band Sunday School Class and the Victory club of that church and of the Golden Age Club of El Dorado.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. F. J. Knust, 326 South High street and Mrs. John Ridgley, of Phoenix, Ariz., three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Clarence and Everett Diller and a sister, Clara Diller also preceded her in death.

KING, WESLEY M. (WES)

Wesley M. (Wes) King, 86, of 319 South High Street, retired stockman and farmer, died Thursday afternoon at Allen Memorial Hospital after being ill for about one week.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Riley Burns, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Cassoday cemetery.

Mr. King had resided in El Dorado since December 1947, when he retired. Prior to that he had resided in the Cassoday and Burns areas.

Born in Pottawatomie county, Kan., on Oct. 30, 1880, he was married to Flora N. Diller near Cassoday on April 4, 1904. He was a member of the First Methodist Church; of the Men's Bible Class of that church, which he at one time taught and currently served as a substitute teacher; of the Victory club of that church and of the Golden Age Club.

Mr. King at one time served as a member of the board of the Jackson school in Chase County, and for several years was president of the Farmers Union at Burns.

Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Velma Knust, 326 South High Street, and Mrs. Violet Ridgley, Phoenix, Ariz; a brother, Ernest King, Jensen Beach, Fla., two sisters, Mrs. Ella Davis, Yucaipa, Calif., and Mrs. Avis Slack, Cherokee, Okla. There are three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. King was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, the most recent being William P. King, Boswell, Okla., and Mrs. Anna Bell of El Dorado.

Members of the Golden Age Club will meet at the Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and will attend the services in a group.

KITCHEN, ASBREEN

Miss Asbreen Kitchen of 300 South High, who died Sunday, July 2 in Allen Memorial Hospital, has been a resident of this area for fifty-two years. She was born at Chelsea January 25, 1892, a daughter of Semor Benjamin and Matilda A. (Lamb) Kitchen and had lived in Indiana and Illinois for a time before returning to Kansas.

Miss Kitchen was a member of the First Methodist Church and Circle Two of the Woman's Society of Christian Service.

Surviving are a brother, David Kitchen of the home; and three nephews, Elwood Chapman of Saco, Mont.; Terry Kitchen of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Jerry Kitchen of Gypsum. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.

The Rev. C. M. Nutter, staff member of the First Methodist Church, officiated at the services Wednesday at the Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home. Recorded organ music was played. The casket bearers were Jack Davis, Clifford Moreland, Ray Leigh Smith, John Holstin, Carl Fowler and G. L. Lewis. Interment was in Chelsea Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, July 6, 1967)

Funeral services for Miss Ashbreen Kitchen, 75, of 300 South High, who died Sunday, July 2 at Allen Memorial Hospital, were conducted Wednesday morning at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial Chapel.

The Rev. C. M. Nutter, staff member of the First Methodist church, officiated.

A prelude and postlude of organ selections were played.

Casket bearers were Jack Davis, Clifford Moreland, Ray Leigh Smith, John Holstin, Carl Fowler and G. W. (Cap) Lewis.

KLINE, MAYME E.

DOUGLASS, Kan. - Mrs. Mayme E. Kline, 84, longtime resident here, died Saturday in Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield, Kan.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hilyard Funeral Home here.

She was born in Fleming County, KY., and was a member of Douglass church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Dale, Wichita, and Ralph, Douglass and a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Smith, Douglass. (The Wichita Eagle, Sunday, October 8, 1967)

MUTH, MRS. FRANK

The death of Mrs. Frank U. Muth, 631 South Topeka, occurred Friday, October 4 and services were held Wednesday in St. John's Catholic Church, the Rev. Fr. Irvin Lampe officiating. Music was by St. John's School choir. The casket bearers were W. R. Mannion, Tom Collins, Lawrence Lipscomb, Robert Lutz, L. W. Hess and Lein Martindale. Interment was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. The Kirby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Muth was born October 24, 1884 in Dinsmore, PA., and was married to Frank Muth at Pittsburgh, PA., June 3, 1902. She was a member of St. John's Church and the Altar Society.

Surviving are Mr. Muth, five daughters and three sons, Miss Ruth Muth, Mrs. Earl A. Thomas, Mrs. L. C. Walter and Mrs. R. F. Walter of El Dorado; Mrs. C. W. Miller, Great Bend; Philip A. Muth, El Dorado, John K. Muth Fort Worth, Texas, and Francis U. Muth, Jr., Hollywood, Calif., two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ganas of Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Ford Shoemaker of Pittsburgh. NULICK, MAGGIE VIOLA RENNAKER (MRS. JACK)

Mrs. Jack Nulick (Maggie Viola Rennaker) who died in Wichita Saturday, was born September 28, 1872 at Marion, Ind., and was married in 1892 to Henry John Nulick who died in 1944. She was for years a member of the El Dorado First Christian church, the Royal Neighbors of America, Woman's Relief Corps and Pocahontas Council.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Marie Pugh of Wichita; two sisters, and a brother Mrs. Laura Landreth, Sterling, Mrs. Emma Reed of Susanville, Ill., and Frank Rennaker of El Dorado.

Services were Monday at the Kirby Funeral Home. The Rev. Clayton Hildebrand officiated. Organ selections were played by Mrs. H. W. Bullerdiek. The casket bearers were H. M. Wait, V. K. Godding, Dave Golden and M. A. Godding. Interment was in Sunset Lawns. (El Dorado Times, Sept. 26, 1957)

PAPEN, VICTOR L.

Victor L. Papen, 70, Augusta, died on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Christ Lutheran Church in Augusta. Burial will be at Kechi Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. tomorrow with family to greet friends from 5 to 6 p.m. at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.

Victor was born in Lamar, Neb., on Sept. 6, 1935, the son of Virgil Clinton and Geneve Monasmith Papen. He retired as a maintenance manager at Gateway Inn in Liberal.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, son, Michael "Sonny" of Mannheim, Germany, step son Richard (Katherine) Crowe of Fresno, Calif., step daughters, Leah Weston of Salem, Mass., and Toni McEnaney (Roger Burns) of Grand View, Mo., (Lorraine) of Rose Hill, sister Kathryn Widener of Haysville, sister-in-law, Carolyn Paper of Tulsa, Okla; four step grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step son, Joey Halvarson and a brother, Robert N. Papen.

Memorials to Harry Hymes Memorial Hospice, Christ Lutheran Church of Augusta, or American Cancer Society.

SAIA, NIKKI A.

Nikki A. Saia, 29, of El Dorado, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at her home. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

She was born May 20, 1976 in El Dorado, the daughter of Lynn Butler and Debbie Flowers. Nikki attended El Dorado High School and a year at Butler Community College. She was a CNA at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. She spent almost all her life in El Dorado.

Survivors include: son, Nick Saia of Leon, her parents, Lynn and Debi Butler of Leon, and Debbie and James Wadick of El Dorado, brother, Scott Butler of Wichita, half-sister Katie Wadick of El Dorado; step-brothers, Doug Hodgens of Auroa, Colo., and Mike Hodgens of Wichita and grandparents, Arlene Flowers and Doris Butler, both of El Dorado.
