CONLEY, MILDRED
Mildred Conley, 88, Leon, sister of Alfred McNickels of Augusta, died Wednesday at the Seneca Manor Nursing Home
in Wichita.
Her services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Leon united Methodist Church. Rev. Jack Williams officiated and burial
was in the Leon cemetery.
She was born Jan. 15, 1892 in Hearbon County, W. Va., to John J. and Clara McCanney McNickles.
She married Franklin L. Conley in Pennsylvania in 1913. He preceded her in death in 1956.
She was a former Boeing Co., employee.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and the Leon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, John Conley of Eatontown, N.J. and Lawrence Conley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister,
Bertha Mitchell, St. Petersburg, Beach, Fla., three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times,

CUNDELL,
WILLIAM A.
Services for William A. Cundell, retired farmer and stockman, were held February 20 at the Kirby Funeral Home chapel.
His death occurred February 17 at his home, Atlanta route one. The Rev. Kenneth Cable of Wichita officiated. Mrs.
H. W. Bullerdiek, organist, accompanied Mrs. Jerry Kennedy who sang "How Great Thou Art," and "In
the Garden." The casket bearers were Ivan Britt, Philip Reder, John Mellies, James Beard, Raymond Lackey and
Lloyd Clark. Graveside Masonic rites were conducted with Arley M. Kistler as Orator. Interment was in Leon Cemetery.
Mr. Cundell was born August 28, 1887 in Heston, England, the son of Cyrus and Louise Elson Cundell. He was a resident
of the Powtin area for many years. In October 1912 he was married to Gertrude Hopkins in El Dorado. The Cundell
home had been in Atlanta since 1941. He was a member of Joppa Lodge No. 223 A. F. & A. M. National Farmers
Organization and a member of the board of directors of Muddy Creek Watershed Association.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Morgan of Wichita, five grandchildren, two nephews,
Andrew Cundell and C. D. Dunbar, three nieces, Mrs. Chick Moore (Nellie), and Mrs. Olive Sutton of El Dorado and

DILTS,
LEWIS ADDISON
Services were held Tuesday in the Leon United Methodist Church for Lewis Addison Dilts, 723 N. East Street, Leon,
who died May 18 in Allen Memorial Hospital. The Rev. James Reed, pastor and the Rev. C. M. Nutter, staff member
of the El Dorado First United Methodist Church and former minister at Leon, officiated. Mrs. Anita Souders was
the organ accompanist for Mrs. Paul Morris and Mrs. Harold Hammer who sang "The Eastern Gate," and "How
Great Thou Art."
The flower bearers were Mesdames Mae Bailey, Gladys Jones, Helen Turner, and Virginia Matson. Casket bearers were
John Glassburner, Ronnie Glassburner, lester Hansen, Darrell Hansen, Jim Hansen, and Dale Wilcox. Honorary bearers
were A. L. Hammer, Melvin Garver, E. G. Matthews, Dr. Walter Westacott, Jim Knox, Willard Morgan, B. M. Waldorf,
Elvin Willhite, Bill Harvey, Frank Gibb, Leroy Larson, Everett Atkisson, Arley Kistler and Jean Matson. Interment
was in the Leon Cemetery under the direction of the Kirby Funeral Home.
A farmer and stockman prior to his retirement in 1964, Mr. Dilts was born August 11, 1886 at Leon and had spent
his life in that area. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. James E. Dilts (Elizabeth Simpson). He was married to Mary
Richardson Glassburner July 30, 1929 at Wichita. He was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church.
Surviving are Mrs. Dilts; two daughters, and two sons, Mrs. Opal Wilcox of Wichita, Mrs. Ruth Hartgrove, Southwest
City, Mo., Ray Dilts, Tulsa, Okla., and Rolla Dilts of Leon, one stepdaughter and two stepsons Mrs. Hazel Wasner,
LaJunta, Colo.; Carl Glassburner, 1344 Sunset Road, El Dorado and Harry Glassburner, Joplin, Mo. There are 16 grandchildren
and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Dilt's name with the Leon United Methodist Church. (El Dorado times, May

KEVIN W.
Services for Jason McGavran, 21, Leon and Kevin W. Dawson, 24, rural Augusta were at 2 p.m. yesterday at the Bluestem
High School in Leon.
Both men died early Friday morning in a one-vehicle accident 4-1/2 miles south of El Dorado on Haverhill Road.
Rev. Vernon Frantz and Rev. Jack Williams officiated and burial was in the Leon Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the athletic department of Bluestem High School. Contributions may be sent
to Bluestem High School or to Kirby Morris Funeral Home who was in charge of arrangements.
McGavran was born Oct. 9, 1959 in Sacramento, Calif., to Richard and Jerry Thomas McGavran.
He had lived the past 10 years in the Leon area. He was a graduate of Bluestem High School. He was employed as
an operator and pipeliner in the oil fields.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard McGavran of Leon; a sister, Paula Clark of Enid, Okla.; his
grandparents, Marie McGavran of Leon and Mr. and Mrs. Joe West of Sacramento.
Dawson was born January 23, 1956 in El Dorado to William and Pat Baker Dawson.
He had lived in Butler County all of his life and was a graduate of Bluestem High School. He was employed by Subterranean
Logging Co., in Leon.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Dawson of Leon; a brother, Kyle Wayne Dawson of Leon; a sister,
Denise Peace of Lubbock, Texas, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dawson of Clements and Mr. and Mrs. Bill

MARGARET A.
Margaret A. Dedrick, 93, Leon, died Tuesday morning at the Augusta Medical Complex. Graveside services will be
at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Leon Cemetery.
She was born June 16, 1887, south of Leon, the daughter of Jerome J. and Mary Dow Dedrick. She spent her entire
life in the Leon area and was a linotype operator for the Leon News. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Leon.
Survivors include two nephews, Dr. William S. Marshall, San Jose, Calif., and Kenneth Dedrick, Denver, Colo., and
four nieces, Ruth Marshall, Mrs. Anita Sauders and Mrs. Arlone Boley all of Leon and Ione Parsley, LeCompton, Kan.

BERT W.
Bert W. Doughty, 97, a retired farmer, died Monday in Leon. His service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at
the Kirby Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado with burial in the Leon Cemetery.
Doughty was born Aug. 22, 1882 to William and Emma Doughty in Leon. He did not marry.
He was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church and is survived by a nephew, Tom Doughty in El Dorado; and
nieces Olive Maclean of Wichita and Mrs. Gladys Doughty of Leon. (El Dorado Times, July 16, 1980)
EDIGER,
WALTER D & JO ETTA
Authorities found the bodies of a Leon couple around 10:45 this morning near the wreckage of a Cessna 172 nine
miles southeast of Hillsboro.
The victims were identified as Walter Ediger and his wife, Jo.
The Edigers were enroute to El Dorado after attending the performance of Handel's "Messiah" performed
at Tabor College in Hillsboro. Their 19-year old daughter Diane is a student at Tabor and was in the Sunday performance.
The couple had reportedly called home to their son, Darin and advised him they would leave for Leon shortly after
10 p.m. unless the weather was bad.
Around midnight the plane was reported missing.
Butler County Sheriff's officials became involved in the search early this morning. A McConnell Air Force base
helicopter discovered the wreckage in Marion County.
"This is a very sad day for everyone in this community," Don Bohannon said. "The community is shocked
over the incident."
Bohannon elementary school principal said the Edigers were very active in the community. They were active members
of the Baptist Church and sang in the choir.
Besides their church participation, both were active in civic and community organizations.
He was a volunteer in the Leon Fire Department.
She was very active in the Leon federated clubs.
Last Sunday the Ediger's Leon home was one of three houses opened for tours sponsored by the Leonavista GFWC Juniors
Club.
He worked at Getty Refinery in El Dorado and built homes as a sideline. One of his hobbies was flying light planes.

Services for Walter D. Ediger, 42 and his wife, Jo Etta, 40 both of Leon, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bluestem
High School gymnasium in Leon. Burial will follow in Leon Cemetery. They died Sunday night as a result of injuries
received in an airplane crash near Hillsboro.
Walter D. Ediger was born May 30, 1939 at Henderson, Neb., the son of David K. and Helena Heinrichs Ediger. He
was an operator for Getty refinery and had lived in Leon for the past 14 years, living previously in Wichita for
four years. He was a member of the Leon Baptist Church. Mr. Ediger had also served on the Leon city council and
was a member of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union.
Jo Etta Lou Ediger was born Dec. 16, 1940 at Fairview, Okla., the daughter of Simon and Dorothy Gaede Warkentin.
She was a secretary at the Leon Grade School and was a member of the Leon Baptist Church. She had lived in Leon
for the past 14 years living previously in Wichita and Topeka. She was a member of the Leonavista Federated Club
and was chosen as woman of the year for the Federated Women's Clubs.
They were married on Sept. 3, 1960 at Orienta, Okla.
Survivors of the couple include a son, Darin of the home, and a daughter, Diane, a student at Tabor College in
Hillsboro. Mr. Ediger is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David K. Ediger, Henderson, Neb.; four brothers,
Jake D. and Robert D., both of Topeka and Alvin D. of Aurora, Neb., and Virgil D. of Lincoln, Neb., and two sisters,
Mrs. Kathrina Rempel, South Bend, Ind., and Mrs. Rosella Epp of Hillsboro. Mrs. Ediger is also survived by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Warkentin, Fairview, Okla., one brother, Allyn Warkentin of McLoud, Okla., and a sister,
Phyllis Lamb of Fairview, Okla.
A memorial has been established with Tabor College for the Ediger children. Contributions may be sent to either
the college or the Carlson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

C. Gladys Edwards, 73, Satanta, formerly of Leon, died Thursday in a Ulysses nursing home.
Her service was at 10:30 a.m. today at the Leon United Methodist Church. Rev. Jack Williams officiated and burial
was in the Leon Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 12, 1909 in Bessie, Okla., to Fred and Mary Mabel Jacobs McAllister.
She married Charles Edwards Aug. 19, 1926 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He died Feb. 11, 1967.
She was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church; the Little Walnut Chapter of the Eastern Star, and the Queen
Esther Shrine.
Survivors include two sons, Allen Joe Edwards of Satanta and Jerry James Edwards of La Mesa Calif., a daughter,
Doris P. Shriver of Lancaster, Calif.; her mother, Mary McAllister of Wichita; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CHARLOTTE & STANLEY
Funeral services were held in the Leon Christian Church on Monday, March 17, for Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Frogge of
rural El Dorado, who died Friday morning, March 14, 1969 as a result of a double shooting in which Stanley took
first his wife's and then his own life. An autopsy disclosed that he had a brain tumor. Rev. Art Wilson officiated
at the services. Mrs. Harold Jones, organist, accompanied Miss Jody Davison who sang "In the Garden,"
and "How Great Thou Art." Casket bearers were Jim palmer, L. U. West, Louis Specher, Calvin Garland,
Dick Pearce, Eugene Walker, P. W. Cross, Dale Beedles, Bob Turney of Topeka, Bob Hadley, Bill Harvey and Clifton
Thompson. Honorary bearers included Ted Losh, Harold Hammer and Junior Sphar. Members of the Loyal Sons and Daughters
Sunday School Class and employees of Century Plastics attended in groups. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery, with
Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home of El Dorado in charge.
Mr. and Mrs. Frogge lived in Leon eleven years before moving to their rural El Dorado home in 1958. Stanley was
a farmer and stockman as well as an employee of Kathol Petroleum. Charlotte was employed at Century Plastics, Inc.
Charlotte was born September 13, 1922 at Reece, the daughter of Neil and Ola (Hammer) Himbury. She married Stanley
on September 4, 1946 at Leon. She was a member of the Leon Christian Church.
Stanley was born October 25, 1921 at Bronston, Kentucky, and came to Kansas in 1926 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Frogge (Amelia Berg). He graduated from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and served in the Navy
during World War II. He was a member of the Leon Christian Church.
Surviving the couple are a son, Marty and a daughter, Marita (Mrs. Fred Kent) of Wichita; and two daughters, Marlys
and Mari of the home; as well as a grandson, Daren Kent of Wichita.
Other survivors of Charlotte are her father, Neil Himbury of Reece; two brothers, Harry Himbury of Nashville, Ill.,
and Delbert Himbury of Shidler, Okla., and a sister, Mrs. Wilma Conley of Girard.
Additional survivors of Stanley are his parents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Frogge of rural Augusta and two sisters, Mrs.
Harvey (Mildred) Holden of El Dorado and Mrs. A. K. (Virginia) Brown of Beaumont, Texas. (El Dorado Times, March

MILTON
Milton Herbel, 53, of Route 1, Leon, died Thursday morning, September 4, 1969 in St. Francis Hospital, Wichita
following an illness of about two years and a recent lengthy hospitalization.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, September 6, in Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00. Burial
will be in the Leon cemetery.
Milton was the son of George Herbel and Anna Schultz Herbel. He was married April 6, 1957 to Delores Lilly in Wichita.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two daughters, Miss Claudia Lilly of Wichita, and Mrs. Janette Noeller, who
is to leave soon with her husband, Steve for his base in Omaha, Nebraska; three brothers, Harold of Maize, Arnold
of Lehigh, and Floyd of Hillsboro; and two sisters, Mrs. Junice Samns of Junction City and Mrs. Helen Barsch of
Gateside, Texas. Two brothers preceded him in death.
A former Wichita resident, Mr. Herbel came to Butler county in 1958. He had spent five years with the Army in the
World War II. He had been employed at Boeing for 19 years.
He was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Leon. (El Dorado times, September 4, 1969)

Fred T. Higginbotham, 68, of Leon, died this morning at Halstead Hospital.
Mr. Higginbotham, an oil well driller for White and Ellis Drilling Co., for the past 10 years, had lived in Leon
since March, 1967.
He was a resident of El Dorado from 1945 to 1967. Prior to that he had spent most of his life in the Moline, Kan.,
area.
He was born Sept. 1, 1900, at Cabool, Mo. He and Alta Gilbert were married Oct. 2, 1922, at Sedan, Kan.
Survivors include the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Atkinson, Wilmington, Del.; four sisters, Mrs. Octa Hainlin,
Moline; Mrs. Ruth Nay, Renton, Wash., Mrs. Ruby Pempleton and Mrs. Minnie Fouchhoth, both of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; three
grandchildren, William F. Atkinson, Wilmington, Mrs. Linda Kehler and Mrs. Sherry Frost, both of Tulsa; and three
great-grandchildren.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Leon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nick Warner
and the Rev. John Sterling officiating.
Burial will be in Leon Cemetery.

Peter Wallace Holt of St. Joseph's Home died October 24, in Allen Memorial Hospital. He was born March 13, 1883
in Leon, a son of William Wiley and Louisa (Lavender) Holt. Mr. Holt was a retired farmer and had lived in the
Leon area most of his life. He had never married. He was a member of the Leon IOOF.
Mr. Holt is survived by three nieces and two nephews, Mrs. Vestra McBoyle, Abilene, Mrs. Lillian Rich, Emporia;
Mrs. Lila McElwain, Morrison, Okla., Jasper Sexton, Abilene; and J. D. Hoover, Oklahoma City.
Services were held Tuesday in the Leon Christian Church with the Rev. Mike Rathbone officiating. Mmes. Harold Hammer
and Paul Morris sang "Rock of Ages," and "Sweet by and By." Accompanied by Mrs. Harold Jones,
organist. Casket bearers were A.L. Hammer, T. C. Bohon, H. L. Hammer, N. E. Wheeler, Archie Wartick, and John Ades.

Services for John Lester Maclean, Leon route one, who died November 8 in Allen Memorial Hospital were held Monday
in the Leon United Methodist Church, the Rev. James R. Reed, officiating. Mrs. Harold F. Jones was the organ accompanist
for Mrs. Harold Hammer and Mrs. Paul Morris who sang "I Know Who Hold Tomorrw." The casket bearers were
Edgar Sherbenouo, Jerre Sherbenou, Howard Sipe, Vernon Hall, Rolla Dilts, and Tom C. Doughty. Interment was in
Leon Cemetery. The Kirby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
A resident of the Leon area since 1901, Mr. Maclean was born January 1, 1892 in Nokomis, Ill., a son of Mr. and
Mrs. C. P. Maclean (Annie Coleman). He was a veteran of World War I and before retirement engaged in farming.
Mr. Maclean was a member of the Leon Methodist Church.
Surviving are Mrs. Maclean, the former Olive Doughty to whom he was married August 28, 1919 at Leon; two daughters
and a son, Mrs. Helen Sherbenou, DeKalb, Ill.; Mrs. Mary Alexander, Wichita and James D. Maclean, Denver, Colo.,
a sister and two brothers, Mrs. Charlotte Sipe, 1302 Douglas Road, El Dorado, C. W. and M. J. Maclean of Leon,

PATTERSON,
ESTEL MARIE PICKRELL (MRS. WALTER W.)
Mrs. Walter W. Patterson (Estel Marie Pickrell) of Leon, who died December 31 in Newton Memorial Hospital at Winfield
was a lifelong resident of the Leon community and before retirement two years ago was on the staff of the Leon
News for forty years.
She was born January 21, 1904, near Leon, a daughter of Alonzo and Effie Louise (Tatum) Pickrell and was married
to Mr. Patterson April 18, 1945 in El Dorado. She attended Leon schools, was graduated from Leon High School and
attended Emporia State Teachers College. Before joining the staff of the Leon News, she taught in the Leon Van
Huss schools.
Mrs. Patterson was a member of the Leon Christian Church, Little Walnut Chapter No. 362, Order of the Eastern Star
and Rebekah Lodge No. 566, Leon, of which she was Past Noble Grand.
Surviving are Mr. Patterson, two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Edmonds of Wichita and Mrs. Grace Jones of Leon, a nephew
and three nieces, Bob Hadley of Leon, Miss Elaine Hadley, Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Shirley Loftis, San Bernardino, Calif.,
and Mrs. Sharon Bradley of Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents.

accompanist for Mrs. Paul Morris who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "I Don't' Know About Tomorrow."

Honorary bearers were Bill Harvey and Lewis Sears. Interment was in Leon Cemetery under the direction of the Dietz-Pittman

PATTERSON,
JOSPEH
Joseph Patterson, Leon, route two, who died August 7 in Wesley Medical Center at Wichita, was born January 18,
1893 at Shawnee, Ohio, a son of Joseph and Susan (Jones) Patterson and was married to Pauline Craig August 19,
1942 at Cheyenne, Wyo.
A rancher and stockman Mr. Patterson had lived in the Leon community sine moving there from Ohio in 1919. For a
number of years he was a member of the board of education for the Leon Schools. He was a veteran of World War I,
serving with the U. S. Army, Co. B., 18th Eng. From June 4, 1917 to May 15, 1919 when he was discharged as a private
first class.
Mr. Patterson was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended the Leon United Methodist church. Other memberships
included Joppa Lodge No. 223, AF & Am having received a 50 year membership award in 1967; Wichita Moose Lodge
and El Dorado Elks Lodge.
Surviving are Mrs. Patterson; one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Susan J. Pangrac of Leon; Rob Patterson of Leon;
David Patterson, Downey, Calif., and Phillip S. Patterson, St. Paul, Minn.; a brother, Henry Shriver, Long Beach,
Calif., and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter.
The Rev. James Reed officiated at services Saturday in the Leon United Methodist Church. Mrs. Chris Bolan was the
organ accompanist for Mrs. Thomas V. Holman who sang "The Lord's Prayer." Perry Pangrac played violin
selections.
The casket bearers were Thomas V. Holman, Jim Gilliland, Sid Blakeman, W. Vic Holman, Robert E. Hadley and Robert
R. Boley. Honorary bearers were Arley M. Kistler, J. B. Seed, Dr. W. A. Westacott, Wilbur Marshall, Claude Gilliland,
Ira Kennedy, Willard Morgan, Murray Maclean and Chris Doughty. Interment was in the Leon cemetery with Masonic
rites conducted by Joppa Lodge No. 223 AF & AM, Arley M. Kistler, Orator. The Kirby Funeral Home was in charge

Walter W. Patterson, 6, recently a Leon resident, died last Friday evening, April 11, 1969 in Newton Memorial Hospital
at Winfield. Services were held on Monday afternoon, April 14, at 2:00 in the Morris Funeral Home at Winfield.
Burial was in Leon cemetery, with graveside military services at 4:00 p.m. Rev. John Blythe officiated at the funeral
and graveside services were conducted by the Winfield American Legion Post No. 10
Walter Patterson was born at New Salem, July 12, 1903. He married Estel Marie Pickrell in El Dorado on April 18,
1945. They made their home at Leon until her death on New Year's Eve in 1966. From that time he had been a resident
of the Wheat Road Lodge in Winfield.
Mr. Patterson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion at Winfield and the Masonic
Lodge at Leon of which he was a Past Master. (El Dorado Times, April 17, 1969)
RASH, GEORGE
Funeral services were held in the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel, El Dorado at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, for George Rash
who died Thursday, May 1 in a Wichita hospital following a heart attack. He and his wife made their home in rural
Augusta.
Dr. Joe Riley Burns, Minister of the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado, officiated at the services. Mrs.
Harold F. Jones was organ accompanist for Mrs. Paul Morris and Mrs. Harold Hammer who sang "Beyond the Sunset,"
and "Beautiful Isle." Casket bearers were Jack VanDever, Roy Anderson, Charles Eaton, Tommy Granberry,
Roger Gardner, and Bill VanDever. Interment was in the Leon Cemetery.
George Raymond Rash was born in Dewey, Oklahoma May 13, 1912 to Robert Marion Rash and Hettie Elizabeth Baker Rash,
both of whom preceded him in death. He died May 1, 1969 at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 17 days.
George spent most of his childhood in Oklahoma, attending school in Copan and Dewey. He was married to Pauline
Elizabeth Wines March 26, 1932 at Pawhuska, Oklahoma. They moved to Illinois where he was an oil field driller
for 20 years before moving to Kansas in October of 1960.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Pauline, are one brother, Everett Edward Rash of Shidler, Oklahoma; two sisters,
Mrs. C. N. (Edith) VanDever of Leon and Mrs. Hester West of Copan, Oklahoma and several nephews and nieces. A brother,
Arthur Lee Rash and an infant brother preceded him in death.
Mrs. Rash is a daughter of Mrs. Ethel Browning of Leon, and a sister of Mrs. Belle Eaton and Mrs. Juanita Granberry.

SAWYER,
IRA F.
Funeral services for Ira F. Sawyer, 87, of Leon, a retired concrete contractor who died Wednesday, will be conducted
at the Leon Christian Church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. Sawyer had lived at Leon for 60 years and at Latham from 1900 to 1908. He came to Latham from Missouri. He
platted Sawyer's addition to the town of Leon.
Mr. Sawyer was born at Lancaster, Mo., on May 28, 1881 and was married to Ola Jane Sesser at Leon on June 10, 1908.
She preceded him in death in March, 1954.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Clarence Dillon of Leon and a brother, Herbert B. Sawyer of Latham.
Burial will be in the Leon cemetery under the direction of the Kirby Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times, March 20,

Services were held Saturday in the Leon United Methodist Church for Ira F. Sawyer, of Leon, whose death occurred
March 19 in Allen Memorial Hospital. The Rev. James Reed, pastor of the church officiated. Richard Woodward sang
"In the Garden" and "Nearer my God to Thee," with Mrs. Harold F. Jones as organist. The casket
bearers were Robert Wilson Jr, Howard Hart, Karl A. Cecil, Oran Wakefield, James Weaver and Arthur Brown. Interment
was in the Leon Cemetery under the direction of the Kirby Funeral Home.
Mr. Sawyer a son of Elisha M. and Lydia C. (Drais) Sawyer, was born May 28, 1881 at Lancaster Mo. In 1900 he moved
to Latham and in 1908 to Leon where he had since resided. He was united in marriage to Ola Jane Sisser June 10,
1908, at Leon. Her death occurred on March 29, 1954.
A retired cement contractor, Mr. Sawyer platted the Sawyer addition to Leon.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Clarence Dillon, Leon, one brother, Herbert B. Sawyer, of Latham, four nieces and
two nephews, Mrs. Cordelia Woodward and Mrs. Wilma Dye of Wichita, Mrs. Dorothy Arnold, Augusta, Mrs. Maxine Woolridge
and Wilbur DeMoss of Leon, Kenneth DeMoss of Latham. He was preceded in death by three sisters, and two brothers,
Mrs. Walter Farner, Miss Myrtle Sawyer, Mrs. Jay DeMoss (Emma) and LeRoy and Lacey Sawyer. (El Dorado times, March
