ANDREW, MRS. MERLYN C.

Mrs. Merlyn C. Andrew, 60, of Cassoday, died Friday at Newman Hospital at Emporia.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cassoday Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Harms, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Cassoday Cemetery.

Mrs. Andrew was born at Irving, Kan., on Feb. 24, 1907, and was married to Mr. Andrew at Eudora, Kan., on Dec. 21, 1927. She had lived in the Cassoday community since 1942 and resided at Emporia before moving there.

She was a member of the Cassoday Methodist Church and of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of that church.

Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Harry Miller, and Mrs. Calvin Hinde, both of Cassoday, two sisters, Mrs. Wallace Hall of Eureka and Mrs. Floyd Moore, Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., and two brothers, Vernon Neumayer, 720 West Fourteenth avenue and Howard Neumayer of Madison. There are seven grandchildren.

DANBY, ALICE

Alice Danby, 68, Cassoday, died Monday at Axtel hospital Newton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cassoday United Methodist church. Burial will be at the Cassoday Cemetery.

Born March 13, 1903 at Cassoday, she married Chester M. Danby, April 22, 1922 at El Dorado. He died July 14, 1970.

She lived in the Cassoday area all of her life.

She was a member of the Lutheran church.

Survivors include one son, Chester L. Danby, Newton; one brother, Lee Griffin, Cassoday, and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

DILLER, BASIL A.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer society in memory of Basil A. Diller, 1218 West Central, who died March 9, following an illness of five months.

Born December 29, 1906, he was the son of John William and Catherine (Campbell) Diller. He grew up on a farm near Cassoday, moving with his parents to Colorado Springs for a short time and in 1927 to Southern California. He returned to Cassoday in 1932.

On January 10, 1934, he was married to Beulah Helton at El Dorado. In 1935 they moved to Los Angeles. During World War II he worked as a welder for the California Ship Building corporation and later for the Navy Shipyard.

Returning to Butler County in 1946, he farmed until 1951, when he went to Boeing as a maintenance welder. He retired in 1971 from his work in heavy equipment maintenance and restaurant equipment building and restaurant maintenance.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church, People to People International and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District Lodge No. 70.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Allen Diller of Chanute; one daughter, Mrs. Marlene Koch of Wichita, one brother, John C. Diller, Ludington, Mich.; and three grandchildren, Sherry, Chris and Steven Diller of Chanute.

Services were held Monday afternoon in Cassoday Methodist church. Rev. Paul Hartman of Grace Lutheran church officiated. Mrs. Earl Hodges was organist and Mrs. Herman Miller vocalist.

Casket bearers were Robert Diller, Leland Griffin, Charley Welty, Marshall Hoy, Kenneth Hoy, Lawrence Coffelt. Honorary bearers were Glenn Luce, Ted Baker, Leo Wolfe, Lynn Weisner, Loren Hurt, Ed Tettenhorst, Harlan Beaver, Dale Moreland, Roy Mitchell and William Rickel.

Interment was in Cassoday cemetery. Dietz Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (El Dorado Times, March 16, 1972)

GRAHAM, CLARA (MRS. GEORGE)

Mrs. George (Clara) Graham, 99, Cassoday, died Friday, Aug. 16 at the Mid America Nursing Home, El Dorado, where she had been a resident for several years. Born Aug. 13, 1875 in Brazilton, she was preceded in death by her husband, George, one son, Ted Drayer and a grandson, Gary Weaver.

Mrs. Graham is survived by a sister, Mrs. W. T. (Bertha) Wallace; two nieces Mrs. Duane Dauber, and Mrs. John Dauber all of El Dorado. Also surviving are two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services announced by the Brown-Bennett Funeral Home of Cottonwood Falls will be at graveside, Monday at 2 p.m. at the Cassoday Cemetery.

The Rev. Marvin Bower, United Methodist Church of Cassoday will officiate.

Mrs. Graham was a member of the Brazilton Luthern Church in Brazilton. A member of the Walnut Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Walnut. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. (Johanna Fischer) Meyers. (El Dorado Times, August 17, 1974)

GRIFFIN, ELMER DEAN

Elmer Dean Griffin, Jr., 39, Oklahoma City, Okla., died at Midwest City hospital, Oklahoma City, Wednesday.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Bethel Temple Assembly of God in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the Cassoday cemetery.

He was born Nov. 18, 1934 in Cassoday. He married Betty Quinn, Feb. 17, 1968, in El Reno, Okla. He was a truck driver for Safeway and had lived in Oklahoma City since 1964. He served in the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1956.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; one daughter, Mrs. Cheryl Kay Vaupel, Oklahoma City, one son, Michael G. Marrow, Oklahoma City; five sisters, Mrs. Elsie Brady, Salt Lake City, Mrs. Xrepha Slavin, Esbon, Kan., Mrs. Effie Wakefield, Douglass, Mrs. Virginia Calloway, McAllen, Tex., Mrs. Tiny Baggett, Denver, Colo., four brothers, Arnold, Newton, John, Jefferson City, Mo., Edgar Cottonwood Falls, Kan., and Louie, Beverly and three grandchildren.

Barr Funeral Home of Blackwell, Okla., is in charge of the funeral arrangements in Oklahoma. Kirby Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

HACKLER, JOHN W.

John W. Hackler, 72, Cassoday Route 1, a resident of Butler County for 47 years, died at his home Thursday.

Funeral services will be announced through the Kirby Fuenral Home.

Mr. Hackler had lived 20 years in the Cassoday area. Prior to that he resided on a farm south of El Dorado for 29 years. He lived at Towanda after coming from Missouri 47 years ago.

Mr. Hackler was born Aug. 8, 1893, in Missouri and was married to Berta Wilson on Feb. 4, 1911.

Surviving are his widow of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Hilma Braman, El Dorado, Route 4, Mrs. Hope Kropf, El Dorado, Route 3, Mrs. Joy Cox, Campbell, Calif., Mrs. Sharon Marceno, San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Melva Reed, Garland, Tex.; six sons, Hurley Hackler, of Feesterville, Pa., Kefton Hackler, Wichita, A. E. Hackler, Santa Clara, Calif., E. L. Hackler, El Dorado, Route 4, Perry W. Hackler, Towanda, D. W. Hackler, El Dorado, Route 1, five sisters, Mrs. Loretta Burd, Denver, Mrs. T. P. Little, Joplin, MO., Mrs. Lennie Horner, Monett, MO., Mrs. Minnie Phillips, Windyville, Mo., and Mrs. John Junkins, 536 North Taylor, and one brother, V. M. Hackler, Collins, Iowa.

HANDLE, ADA C.

Funeral services for Mrs. Loren H. Handle (Ada C.), 87, Burns are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Cassoday United Methodist church. Mrs. Handle died Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home, Peabody.

Rev. H. Marvin Bower, pastor, will officiate at the services. Mrs. Larry Patton, organist, will accompany Chad R. Patton, who will sing "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer." Casket bearers will be Frederick Brening, Robert Diller, Dale Hamilton, Richard Goering, Herman J. Schuler, and John Hoy.

Interment will be at the Cassoday cemetery. Dietz Colonial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Handle was born April 3, 1886 in Missouri the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel F. Sale (Isabelle Shoemaker). They came to Kansas from Missouri when she was a young woman and settled in the Cassoday Burns area. She was married to Mr. Handle on May 22, 1912. He died in 1955. Mrs. Handle was a member of the Cassoday United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Paul H. Handle, Burns; a daughter, Mrs. Glenwood Hursh (Helen), Chesapeake, Va.; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, February 14, 1974)

JOHNSON, PAUL

Paul Johnson, 71, a farmer and stockman at Cassoday for 46 years, died Friday at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Cassoday Methodist Church with the Rev. Harmon Lackey officiating.

Burial will be in the Cassoday cemetery with the Kirby Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Johnson was born April 14, 1899 at Dacoma, Okla. He was married to Afton Cox on Sept. 3, 1918 at Alva, Okla.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ron Wintermote, Route 2, El Dorado and Miss LaWanda Johnson, Wichita, one son, Donald L. Johnson, Cassoday; and five grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, March 27, 1971)

KECK, DANNY ALVIN JR.

Danny Alvin Keck Jr., four months old, Topeka, died Friday at Stormont-Vail hospital in Topeka. Funeral services were held today at the Cassoday Cemetery.

Born Sept. 29, 1971 at Topeka, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Alvin Keck, Sr. His mother is the former Carolyn Hoy of Cassoday.

The Rev. Harmon Lackey of the Cassoday United Methodist church, officiated.

He is survived by his parents, one sister, Cathy, of the home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hoy, Cassoday, and Walton Keck, Divan, W. V., great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Johnson, Matfield Green, and Mrs. Lillian Stevens, Davin, W. V.

LONG, THIPA A. MRS.

Mrs. Thipa A. Long, 41, of Jacksonville, Ark.; died unexpectedly Monday in the Jacksonville hospital.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Cassoday Cemetery.

Mrs. Long was born March 4, 1935, at Ubeon, Thailand, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sawarngngarm. She married Staff Sergeant Roy Long, Nov. 16, 1971, in Thailand. She was employed as a cook at the Little Rock Air Force Base in the Non-commissioned Officers Club.

Survivors include her husband; two step-sons, Roy B. Jr., and Earl and a daughter, Miss Lee Ann Long, all of the home. (El Dorado Times, February 7, 1977)

MYERS, BESSIE J.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie J. Myers, who died Monday, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Cassoday United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Cassoday Cemetery.

Born in Halstead, Mrs. Myers had bene a long time Cassoday resident, moving there in 1930 from Wichita. She was first married to Guy R. Brown, Leon in 1903. He died in 1919. In 1930, she married Joseph H. Myers. He died in 1955.

Survivors include four sons, Raymong Brown, Lyman, Wyo.; Allen K. Brown, Colorado Springs; Joseph J. Myers, Cassoday and Harold L. Myers, Dallas, three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Wojciechowski, Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Grace Pumphrey and Mrs. Lois Cortner, both of Wichita, two stepsons, Charles Myers, Russell and Frank Myers, Clute, Tex., one step-daughter, Mrs. Hazel Howery, Nacogdoches, Tex.; one brother, William M. Dyer, Wichita; two sisters Mrs. Iva Floyd Moline and Mrs. Anna Herndon, Goodman, Mo. She is survived also by 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, one sister, one half-brother, and one half-sister.

PLUMMER, SARAH

Mrs. Forrest (Sarah) Plummer, 59, Cassoday, died Wednesday at Bethel hospital, Newton. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Cassoday Cemetery.

Born in 1913 in Buffalo, Mo., she married Forrest Plummer August 18, 1932 at Cottonwood Falls. They lived in the Cassoday area since 1936.

She was a member of the Cassoday Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Les Hall, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Ron Ford, Haysville, three sons, Ben, 610 West 10th, Al Burns, and Frank, Denver, Colo., her mother, Mrs. Katie Hoberecht, Bremerton, Wash.; his two sisters, Mrs. Esther Schmidt and Mrs. Ruth Perkins of Missouri; one brother, Delmar Hoberecht, Seattle, Wash., and nine grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Donations can be made through the First National Bank and Trust Co.

REED, LOUISE

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist church at Cassoday for Louise M. Reed, 87, who died Monday at a hospital in Bartlesville, Okla. She was a former resident of Cassoday.

Born at Baden, Germany, Oct. 19, 1885, she came to the United States when she was six months old. She married J. M. Reed on Feb. 19, 1909, at Soldier, Kan., and moved to Cassoday shortly after the wedding. Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons Col. A. L. Reed of Albuquerque, New Mexcio; Marion F. Reed of Bartlesville and Ralph Reed of Milwaukee, Wis., a daughter, Mrs. Caroline Morrison of San Francisco, Calif., five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive.

Stumpff Funeal Home of Bartlesville is in charge of the arrangements. Interment will follow the services at the Cassoday Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, April 11, 1973)

ROHMEYER, LAVERNA MAY

Mrs. Laverna May Rohmeyer, 48, of Cassoday, died Sunday at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Cassoday Methodist Church with Harmon Lackey officiating. Burial will be in the Cassoday Cemetery under the direction of Kirby Funreal Home. The casket will not be opened at the church.

Mrs. Rohmeyer was born May 28, 1922 at Greenburg. She was married to Ralph Rohmeyer Sept. 15, 1940, at Cassoday. She was a member of the Cassoday Methodist church and the Rebekah Lodge of El Dorado.

Surviving are her husband of the home, one daughter, Mrs. Ellen Guilliams, Route 1, El Dorado; one son, Frank, surviving with the Army in Germany; one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Huttle, Route 1, El Dorado and four brothers, Arthur Unruh, 1800 West Third, Jake Unruh, Broken Arrow, Okla., Harry Unruh, Emporia and Chester Unruh, Cassoday; and two grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. (El Dorado Times, Monday, December 21, 1970)

STURGEON, ELLA E.

Mrs. Ella E. Sturgeon, 96, of Cassoday died Thursday morning at the Newman Hospital at Emporia.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Cassoday and burial will be in the Cassoday Cemetery.

Mrs. Sturgeon was born Sept. 27, 1880, at Emerson, Iowa, the daughter of James C. and Sarah Jane Durbin McGrew. She was married to Clarence Ivan Sturgeon Feb. 19, 1901 and he died Aug. 16, 1948. She moved to Cassoday in 1913. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Emerson.

Survivors are a son, Tom of Cassoday, four daughters, Mrs. Andrew of Cassoday, Mrs. Margaret Sunbarger of Modesto, Calif., Mrs. Alice Dunshee of Cottonwood Falls and Mrs. Beth Eisenhauer of Alameda, Calif., 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

WALLACE, OTTO WILLIAM (BUS)

Otto William (Bus) Wallace, 58, of Cassoday, died Sunday at his home after a lengthy illness. He was employed by the U. S. Government in the civil service department. He was a brother of Mrs. John L. Dauber, 1826 Leonard Court, El Dorado.

He was born on June 30, 1907, at Walnut, Kansas. The family has lived at Cassoday since 1909.

He was married to Nadeen Charles on June 30, 1937, at Murphsboro, Ill.

In addition to his sister, survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Wallace of the home at Cassoday; two daughters, Mrs. Brad (Margaret Ann) Dunton of Sun Valley, Calif., and Mrs. C. O. (Marilyn) Whitton, Jr. of Sylmar, Calif., and one grandson.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Cassoday Methodist Church by the minister, the Rev. Garry Harms. Interment will be made at Cassoday cemetery. Arrangements are by Brown-Bennett Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. (El Dorado Times, June 19, 1967)

WHITHAM, PERRY H.

Perry H. Whitham, a lifelong resident of Cassoday, died Monday.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cassoday First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harmon Lackey officiating. Burial will be in the Cassoday cemetery under the direction of the Kirby Funeral Home.

Born July 7, 1898, at Cassoday, he was married to Marjorie Harsh on Jan. 20, 1923 in El Dorado.

Mr. Whitham was a lifetime resident of Cassoday and had lived on the same farm all his life.

He was a member of the Cassoday Lions Club and served on the school boards of that district for a total of 18 years.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Wilbur L. Whitham of Cassoday, and one sister, Mrs. Karl Harsh of Cassoday. (El Dorado Times, July 7, 1970)
