ADES, LUCILE

Lucile Ades, 93, of El Dorado and formerly of Leon, died Monday morning, march 14, 2005 at a local nursing home. Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Kirby Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the services in Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lucile was born Dec. 11, 1911, in Bruno Township, the daughter of James F. and Mary Ida Stephens Belford. She attended schools in Indianola Grade School and graduated from Benton High School. She was united in marriage to Robert John Ades in El Dorado on Feb. 27, 1936. He preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1997. Lucile had worked for Mcclellan's in El Dorado and Land Manufacturing in Wichita. She continued to work in her home and made cakes for various celebrations like birthdays and weddings. She was a very faithful member of the Leon Baptist Church, a 50 year member of the Rebekah Lodge, Farm Bureau and H. D. U. She taught cooking as a 4-H leader.

Survivors include: three sons, Lloyd and his wife, Karen Ades of El Dorado, John and his wife Dale Ades of Newton and Jim Ades of Texas; one daughter, Barbara and her husband Al Gannon of Leon; one sister, Sarah Emerine Walther of El Dorado a sister-in-law, Evelyn Belford of Wichita; 17 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three grandchildren.

Memorial has been established with the Leon Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be left with Kirby-Morris Funeral who is assisting the family with their arrangements. (El Dorado Times, March 14, 2005)

BENDER, ROBERT V.

Robert Bender Rites Thursday

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon at the old Mission Mortuary at Wichita for Robert V. Bender, 57, of Wichita, who died Monday. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon in Prairie Lawn cemetery at Wellington.

Survivors include his widow, Alma; three daughters, Libby of the home, Mrs. Barbara Russell of Tempe, Ariz., and Mrs. Donna Stover of Douglass; two step-sons, Lyle Burkhard of Abilene and Kent Burkhard of San Francisco, Calif.; and his stepmother, Mrs. Laura Bender of Arkansas City. BUNYARD, GEORGE CLAY

George Bunyard Passes Away

George Clay Bunyard passed away on St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, on April 10, 1974.

George Clay Bunyard was born to Richard L. and Mary Frances Bunyard on February 10, 1895, Southwest of Fall River, in Elk County. He was united in marriage to Julia Edna Smith on February 24, 1923. To this union five children were born. They were Edward R., Johnny, Lodema, Willmettia, and Pearl.

George was a farmer and stockman until he moved to town, but George always had at least one horse to keep around for his enjoyment. He helped his neighbors with their veterinarian problems. George worked for the Fall River Alfalfa Mill in 1949 and when it moved to Larned, he went with it each season and worked until 1953. After that George was Fall River City Marshall for a number of years until he retired.

He is survived by his two sons, Edward R. of Rose Hill, Ks., and John of Emeryyville, Calif.; three daughters, Lodema Holderman and WIllmettia Burris, both of Wichita, Ks., and Pearl vanderpool of Renton, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

One brother Harvey of Eureka, Ks., and one sister Eva Ryan of Wichita, Ks.

Services were held Sunday, April 14, 1974 at the Fall River Christian Church in Fall River, Ks., with Howard Busby, formerly of the Fall River Holliness Church, officiating. Burial was in North Pole Cemetery, Forsberg Funeral Home, Severy, Ks., was in charge of service. (Douglass Tribune, April 25, 1974, Thursday)

BROWN, EARL MRS.

Mrs. Brown Dies

Word was received here that Mrs. Earl Brown of Seattle, Wash., had passed away. She has two brothers, Pearl Taylor of Douglass and Jr. Fedderoff of Wichita. (Douglass Tribune, September 12, 1974)

DARTER, WINNIE ADDIE

Winnie Addie Darter, was born March 28, 1895, and passed away at a Winfield hospital Sunday, March 21, 1971; one week before her 76th birthday. She was born on a claim which is now part of the campus of Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel and Jane (Plummer) Darter, and had five sisters and one brother, all of whom, including her parents had died before Winnie was eleven years old. She also had three half-brothers.

For years she made her home with her aunt, Addie McKinley, in Douglass. In spite of a handicap suffered from a fall at the age of three, Winnie was employed as operator by the local telephone company and rose to the position of chief operator before her retirement July 5, 1957, after 42 years of service.
She was a member of the Douglass Church of Christ, a devout Christian and an excellent Bible School teacher. Through her connection with the telephone company, her work in the church and a naturally friendly disposition, Winnie had a wide circle of friends, who together with nieces and cousins, are left to mourn her loss.

Funeral services were conducted by the Hilyard Funeral Home from the Church of Christ at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Arvel J. Rutledge in charge. Burial was in the McCabe Cemetery northeast of Douglass. (Douglass Tribune, March 25, 1971)

Winner Darter Rites are Held

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Douglass Church of Christ for Miss Winnie A. Darter, 75, of Douglass, who died Sunday. Interment was in the McCabe cemetery at Douglass.

Miss Darter was born at Stillwater, Okla., and was taken to Douglass as a child. She was a retired telephone operator. (Douglass Tribune, March 23, 1971)

HUTCHINSON, CHARLES V. "BUCK"

Local Man's father Dies rites are Held

Funeral services were held at the Rindt-Erdman Oldroyd Funeral Home at Arkansas City Monday morning for Charles V. (Buck) Hutchinson of Arkansas City who died last Friday.

The Rev. Lawrence A. Pierson of the Trinity Episcopal church at Arkansas City conducted the services. Interment was in Riverview cemetery at Arkansas City.
Survivors include his widow, Pauline; a son, Charles (Church) Hutchinson of Augusta; two brothers, Frank G. Hutchinson of West Virginia and John H. Hutchinson of Shawnee, Okla. (Douglass Tribune, 1971)

LITTLE, ERNEST W.

Ernest W. Little, 54, of San Jose, California, died March 17, 1971.

He was born at Wellington, Kansas, December 18, 1916, the son of William T. and Beryle Little. He graduated from Derby High School in 1935. He lived in Olympia, Washington, for 28 years, and moved to San Jose, California in 1969. He was preceded in death by his father ion April 23, 1958.

Survivors include his wife, Lottie, two sons, John of Sacramento, California and Ken of Olympia, Washington. His mother, Beryle Little of Atlanta, Kansas, five sisters, Mrs. J. C. (Trudie) Garvey of Wichita; Mrs. Morris (Martha) Moore of Sacramento, California; Mrs. Frank Frank (Margaret) Polk of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Lamb of Medford, Oregon; and Mrs. James (Joyce) Riggs of Montclair, California; five brothers, Elwyn and Duane of Atlanta, Kansas; Robert of Douglass; Rev. James of South Haven; Elwood of Wichita and 27 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at the Oak Hill Funeral Home, 200 Curtner Avenue, San Jose, California. (Douglass Tribune, March 25, 1971)

MILES, LOREN E.

Douglass Man Dies Tuesday

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home, Douglass for Loren E. Miles, 43, Douglass, who died Tuesday of natural causes. Survivors include his widow, Betty; three daughters, Miss Kathy Miles and Mrs. Karen Schouten, both of Douglass and Mrs. Connie Chinn, Rose Hill, his father, Lawrence Miles, Dumas, Tex.; two brothers, Vernon, Lexington Park, Md., and Robert, Douglass; and a sister, Mrs. Delbert Dillard, Dumas, Texas. PEGG, DELIA

Mrs. Pegg Rites 10:30 Wednesday

Funeral services will be held at the Hilyard Funeral Home at Douglass at 10:30 Wednesday morning for Mrs. Delia Pegg, 85, who died Monday. She was a lifelong resident of Douglass. She was preceded in death in 1966 by her husband Neil.

Survivors include two sons, Emerson Pegg of Amarillo, Tex., and Stanford Pegg of Englewood, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Bowers of Douglass and two brothers, A. B. Chauncey of Chanute and Merlin Chauncey of Stillwater, Okla. (Douglass Tribune, July 20, 1971)

PIPPIN, KENNETH R.

Kenneth R. Pippin, 89, of Andover, died Saturday, March 12, 2005. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Augusta. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 4-6 p.m. at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.

He served in the army during World War II. He was a retired pipeline operator for Mobil Oil.

Survivors include: sons, Jim and wife Sandi of Houston, Texas, Joe and wife Debi of Olathe and Bob and wife Betty of Benton; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

RUSH, DELLA L.

Mrs. Della L. Rush, died July 5 at the Newton Memorial Hospital, Winfield. She was born at Evening Shade, Arkansas, January 1, 1899. Her home was in Melbourne, Arkansas. She has resided in the Rock and Douglass communities for the past two months.

Her husband, John, preceded her in death. Survivors are six sons, Ray, Evening Shade, Arkansas, Otto, Douglass, Robert, Liberal; Hayden, Perryton, Texas; John, Augusta and O. T., Rock; three daughters, Mrs. Mae Hendrix, douglass; Mrs. Eunice Barker, Rock and Mrs. Imodean Asmussen, El Dorado, a brother, A P. Findley, Sacramento, California, two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Paget, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Mrs. Willie Dale, Sidney, Arkansas.

Services will be held Friday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Melbourne, Arkansas. Interment will be in the Combs Cemetery, Melbourne.

SHAFFER, CHESTER VOYLE

Chester Voyle Shaffer, was born September 20, 1893 and departed his life at St. Joseph Hospital, March 21, 1971, at the age of 77.

Voyle was born on a farm near Douglass to Samuel L. and Grace Shaffer. He attended school in Rose Hill. He was married to Ellen Stewart who preceeded him in death in 1952.

Voyle worked for the Boeing Company and had retired from that corporation.

He is survived by one brother, Joe Shaffer, of Wichita, and four sisters, Mrs. Pauline Johnson, Mulvane, Mrs. Maxine Hartenbower, Eureka, Mrs. Louise Smith, Mulvane and Mrs. Eva Lindsay, Wichita, Kansas. (Douglass Tribune, April 1, 1971)

Douglass Man's Rites Wednesday

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Hilyard Funeral Home at Douglass for C. Voyle Shaffer, 77, of Douglass, who died Sunday. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Winfield.

C. Voyle Shaffer was born at Rose Hill and was a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen in 1952.

Survivors include a brother, Joe Shaffer of Wichita and four sisters, Mrs. Eva Lindsay of Wichita, Mrs. Pauline Johnson and Mrs. Louise Smith of Mulvane and Mrs. Maxine Hartenbower of Eureka. (Douglass Tribune, March 23, 1971)

VAN DOLAH, WAYNE E.

Wayne E. Van Dolah, 81, of Mountain Home, Ark., died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at his residence. Private services will be held. Burial will be in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 22, 1914, at Ellinwood, to Clifford and Luella Schmidt Van Dolah. He married Mary Osterhout on June 29, 1942, at Independence. He owned Van's Electric and Heating and Air Conditioning in El Dorado for 20 years. He then traveled for Tri-State Electrical company in Coffeyville for 25 years before retiring Mountain Home in 1998. He was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps serving in the Far East. He was a Lutheran.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Van Dolah, of Mountain Home; son, Doug (Angie) Van Dolah of Mountain Home; daughter, Donna Van Dolah of Branson, Mo.; two grandchildren, Katie and Evan Van Dolah of Mountain Home; one great-grandson, Clint Gaston of Lakeview, Ark.; and sister, Marge (James) Cooley of Coffeyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Eric Gaston; one brother, Richard and one sister, June.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks, 701 Burnett Dr., Mountain Home, Ark. 72653.

Retired Douglass businessman dies

H. Glen Young, 76, retired owner of Uptown Auto Service in Douglass, died Thursday. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Christ in Douglass.

Survivors include his widow, Lucille; two sons, Keith, Douglass and Norman, Augusta; two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Alley, Douglass and Mrs. Wanda Salmans, Augusta; two brothers, Clyde and Bud, both of Ozark, Mo., and four sisters, Mrs. Lola Graffis, Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Kathern Wilson, Quincy, Mo., Mrs. Florence Brammer, Townsend, Mont., and Mrs. Marylynn Geren, Monterey, Calif.
