W. E. TURNER CORONER DIED LAST EVENING

End came Peacefully at 6 O’Clock after an Illness of Two Months

Bury Tomorrow

Funeral Services will be held at Home; Resident of Town 29 Years

Six hours before the passing of 1925, W. E. turner, aged 63 years county coroner, died at his home 315 West Pine Avenue after an illness of two months. He had been in a critical condition for a number of weeks, and little hope had been entertained for his recovery.

Funeral services over the body will be held at the Turner-home at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. Rev. C. A. Kitch, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be made in the Belle Vista Cemetery. The Masonic Lodge probably will have charge of the services at the grave.

Failing for Months

Mr. Turner had been in failing health since last June. He lost his appetite at that time but believed this was caused by the unusually warm weather for that time of the year. As the summer progressed, Mr. Turner did not improve in health, but his condition did not appear to be worse.

On the morning of November 2, Mr. Turner suffered a light stroke in his right arm. About noon that day he was called to Douglass to conduct an investigation into the death of a resident of that place. It became necessary to hold a post mortem and Mr. Turner remained up late that night to complete his work. On the following day Mr. Turner went to Lawrence and returned home on November 4.

Mr. Turner was a great loving man in his home. He had received once of the ups and down in the business world to make him know it. His home was his best resort. He was a great lover of his children and a devoted husband. When Mrs. Turner died on June 12, 1922, Mr. Turner appeared to lose much of his former interest in life. Although he never complained to any one, not even the immediate members of his family, those who were acquainted with him realized that the death of Mrs. Turner was a severe blow to him.

Gave to the Community

Although he could usually be found at him home, except when he was at his work. Mr Turner found time to give of his services to the community. He had held the position as coroner since his election to that place the first time in the fall of 1912. In point of both service and age, Mr. Turner was the oldest funeral director in the county and one of the oldest in the state.

Mr. Turner also served for several years on the old city council and was for a number of years chief of the volunteer fire department. Mr. Turner also took an active part in most community problems, and was ever ready to give of his time to the improvement of conditions for all man kind. Mr. Turner was a member of the Methodist church all his life. Until about three years ago he seldom ever missed Sunday school or a church service.
