Goldie W. (Brown) Colling, 85, Augusta, retired LPN, died on Saturday, July 8, 2006.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Ryan Mortuary in Salina. Interment at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Visitation until 8 p.m. this evening at Ryan Mortuary in Salina.

Her survivors include: husband, George; children, Jesse Young, Sidney Young, Patricia Goud, Winnie Larson, Martin Colling, Bradly Colling, Bruce Colling, and Brian Colling; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Pauls; four sisters and five brothers.

CRISSUP, KENNETH O.

Kenneth O. Crissup, 70, Augusta, died on Monday, July 3, 2006, at Via Christi, St. Francis in Wichita. Mr. Crissup was a retired painting contractor and a long-time Augusta resident.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home in Augusta. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

Visitation with family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home, 201 E. Fifth, Augusta.

He was born on Aug. 31, 1935 at Salem, Okla., the son of Robert and Gladys Snow Crissup. He graduated valedictorian of his class in 1953 from Augusta High School. He then served in the United States Air Force.

His many interests included passions for motorcycles, unsurpassed cooking and flying. He flew his first solo flight at age 14. He was a heart felt and caring man, liked and loved by those who knew him and his living with grace, warmth, care and love of family. He also had a great love of music.

Kenneth married Marlene Weaver on Jan. 18, 1957, (she survives) and four children were born to this union; son, K. Shane (Kristy) crissup of Russellville, Ark.; daughters, Ramona and Ed Schmedt of Rose Hill, Paula Megli of Latham, and Kerrie and Mark Gordon of El Dorado.

On Dec. 31, 1991, he married Joyce Paul, who survives in Augusta and her children are: Ramona Riggins and Jeff Carley of Augusta, and Mike and Steve Carley of Wichita, Donny and Karen Carley of Benton. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Dick Crissup of Okla.; sisters, Joyce Turbush and Doris Waddall, both of Okla., and Bonnie Wagner of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

DAVIS, JOHN HARVEY

John Harvey Davis, 73, 201 West Olive, a retired oil field worker, died here yesterday following an illness of two weeks.

He was born April 6, 1879 in Hocking County, Ohio and was married to Josie Miller at Bluffton, Ind., on Feb. 21, 1904. She preceded him in death in February, 1952.

Mr. Davis had lived here since 1933 coming here from Oil Hill where he had resided since 1918. Before coming to Kansas he had lived in Indiana and Illinois.

He was a member of the Christian church and the King Lodge No. 246 F. & A. M. at Warren, Ind.

He is survived by three sons, Orin B. Oil Hill, Charles of the home and Earl W. Honolulu, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Kirby Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton W. Hildebrand; pastor of the First Christian church officiating. Masonic graveside services will be conducted in Sunset Lawns cemetery. (El Dorado Times, January 31, 1953)

DICK, DOROTHY

Dorothy Dick, 80, El Dorado, homemaker, mother and mother-in-law of Marilyn and Denny Tuttle of Augusta, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2006.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. this evening; service at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, both at St. John's Catholic Church in El Dorado.

Her other survivors include: son, Gary Dick and his wife, Robyn of El Dorado; daughters, Connie and husband Bill Brant of Wichita and Frances Janney of El Dorado; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

ESSEX, ISAAC EDWARD

Fall Into River Causes the Death of Local Youth

Pvt. Isaac Edward Essex, aged 20 years, son of Mrs. Bertha Essex died late Saturday in the Station Hospital at Camp McCain, Miss., from injuries received June 7, while in the performance of his duties.

Private Essex, who left El Dorado with the draft contingent on February 1, was with the quartermaster detachment, which was repairing a bridge, when he slipped and fell into a river, hitting his head on a large rock, which caused him to suffer a broken neck. Through the efforts of the local Red Cross Home Service department, Mrs. Essex was able to go at once to her son. She returned this morning. Another son, Sgt. Robert L. Essex, stationed at Scott Field, Ill., who was also summoned to the bedside of his brother, returned to El Dorado with his mother.

Private Essex was born on January 21, 1923, in El Dorado, and had lived here all his life. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Arlie Cartwright, Wichita; a brother, PFC Lewis Herbert, For Rosencrans, San Diego, Calif., and another brother Lloyd, who enlisted in the Navy, and left for the service last Wednesday morning, just prior to receiving the message of his brother's injury. He has been assigned to an unannounced camp and efforts are being made to get in touch with him. A brother, Russell, of the home also survives. The body will arrive tomorrow morning and funeral arrangements are in charge of the Byrd Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times, Front Page, Monday, June 14, 1943, Volume XXIV, Number 168)

ESSEX, MICHAEL ALAN

Michael Alan Essex, 48, of El Dorado, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at Cassoday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Belle Vista Cemetery.

He was born May 24, 1949, in El Dorado to Russell A. and LaVerna Robinson Essex. He spent most of his life in this area and was a treatment operator for the City of El Dorado Water Treatment Plant. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. On July 4, 1983, he married Brona J. Watkins at El Dorado.

He is survived by his wife, Brona of the home; a son, Jess; his mother; LaVerna Essex, and a sister, Nikki Martin, both of El Dorado. He was preceded in death by his father.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in his memory for the Jess Essec College Fund. These may be left at Carlson Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements. (El Dorado Times, April 17, 1998)

KIRKPATRICK, HAROLD ELBRIDGE

Harold Elbridge Kirkpatrick, 91, Augusta, died on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Lakepoint Nuring Center in Augusta. He was a retired Beech Aircraft employee after 25 years. Following retirement he continued to farm and raise cattle on his family's homesteaded land near Augusta.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Those attending should use the 12th Street entrance to the cemetery.

Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, at Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home, Augusta.

Harold was born on Aug. 20, 1914 to Aubrey and Clara L. (Dennett) Kirkpatrick on the family farm in Butler County. He remained a lifetime resident of the area.

On March 27, 1943, he married Marjorie Chrisman of Augusta. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Kirkpatrick.

His survivors include: two daughters, Connie Wolf and Micki and her husband Kenny Brinkley, all of Augusta; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established with the Leukemia Society and donations may be sent in care of the funeral home.

LYNN, JEANIE M.

Jeanie M. Lynn, 28, of El Dorado, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998. There will be no services.

She was born June 2, 1969, in Sterling, Colo., to David N. Mathews and Molly M. Krajeskie. In 1976, she moved to El Dorado. She married John Lynn in El Dorado in 1995 and was a parts clerk for O'Reilly Auto Parts.

She is survived by her sons, Dylan of El Dorado, two daughters, Chelsea of Oklahoma, and Jennifer of El Dorado; father David Mathews of Sterling, Colo., mother, Molly Thornton, four brothers, Jackie Robinson of Hot Springs, Ark., Robert Mathews of Hot Springs, Charles David Mathews of El Dorado, and Lyndon Wade Mathews of El Dorado and grandparents Ethel and Cliff Kaiser of Fleming, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lynn on July 4, 1997, and her grandfather, Charles Mathews. (El Dorado Times, April 17, 1998)

PATRICK, DOROTHY JOANNE

Dorothy Joanne Patrick, 72, Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2006.

Joanne was born in Benton on Jan. 4, 1934, the daughter of Merton Phillip and Olive Lucille (Bloir) Hill.

She is survived by her children: Steven Patrick, Glenda Margers, Jackie Gates, and Deanna Suarez; brother, Leroy Hill; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

THOMAS, EARL MRS. & TWIN SON

Mrs. Earl Thomas and one of her newly born twin sons, 1127 West Third Avenue, died here Saturday afternoon at 2:35 o'clock. Mrs. Thomas was 30 years old and had been a resident of El Dorado for the past three years, having come here from Okmulgee, Okla.

She was born on July 4, 1902, in Nowata, Okla., and was married in Okmulgee in 1921. Surviving are her husband, three sons, Thomas, 9 years, Ralph, 8, and the surviving twin son, a brother, Francis Orendorff, of Okmulgee, Okla., a sister, Sister Mary Judieth, of San Antonio, Texas and her mother.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Catholic Church. The Rosary was said last evening at the Byrd Funeral Home. The body will be taken to Okmulgee, Okla., this evening where funeral services will be held tomorrow at St. Anthony's Church. Interment will be made in Okmulgee.

A close friend of Mrs. Thomas had the following to say regarding her this morning: "A large number of friends are saddened by the death of Mrs. Thomas. There never lived a happier sweeter or more unselfish woman than Mrs. Thomas. We always spoke of her as the little woman who was always laughing, she was ever showering acts of kindness on her friends, and her devotion to her husband and two small sons was untiring. Of an artistic temperament, her modest little home was adorned with the pictures she had painted and other objects. She was never idle. She was a sincere and devout Catholic. THOMPSON, ALAN H.

Funeral services for Alan H. Thompson, 63, Durant, Okla., were conducted Thursday in Durant. Burial was also in Durant. Mr. Thompson was a former El Doradoan.

He was born Oct. 3, 1907 at Bell, Tex. He was an employee of Haliburton Cementing until his retirement and move to Durant. He had been an El Dorado resident for 13 years.

Surviving are his wife, Ola, of the home; two sons, Delroy Thompson, Wichita, Robert Thompson, Colby, and one daughter, Mrs. Delorese Le Vier, Big Springs, Texas. One sister, two brothers and nine grandchildren also survive. (El Dorado Times, October 9, 1970)

WARREN, BEVY EDGAR

Bevy Edgar Warren, 58, former El Dorado resident, died August 14 at his home, 110 Warrenton, Houston, Tex., succumbing to an apparent heart attack.

Former co-owner of the Wynn-Warren grocery stores here and in Wichita, Mr. Warren was chairman of the board of Wynn-Warren Inc., a supermarket chain.

He was born February 19, 1912, at Roswell, N. M., the son of Thomas A. and Elizabeth R. (Good) Warren. His marriage to Maxine Wilson took place January 22, 1932 at Wichita. Mr. Warren had lived in Houston the past four years, moving there from Wichita he had resided 13 years. Prior to that time he lived in El Dorado.

A 1932 graduate of El Dorado High School, Mr. Warren was in military service during World War II. He was a member of the Tallowed Baptist church and was a 32nd degree Mason. Other memberships included Patmos Lodge No. 97, AF & AM, Elks Lodge and Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are Mrs. Warren; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Ann Voth, Kansas City, Kans., one son, William T. Warren, Houston, a sister, Mrs. Murl Fry, Fort Worth, Texas, and a brother, Tex Warren of Wichita.

Services were held Monday morning in Houston. Additional services were held Wednesday in the El Dorado First Baptist church with Dr. Max W. Morgan, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Wichita, officiating. (El Dorado Times, August 20, 1970)

WEST, BILLIE JEAN

Billie Jean West, 76, of El Dorado, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18 at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 4, 1929, at San Angelo, Texas, the daughter of Jack Andrew and Lucille (Moon) West. When she was young, she worked on the family farm and now worked at Flinthills Work Shop. She lived most of her life in this area. Billie Jean was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Betty Fennell.

WHEAT, NANCY (KAUFMAN)

Mrs. George Wheat, 38, former El Doradoan, died Saturday night in Tulsa.

Funeral services will be conducted from Southminister Presbyterian church in Tulsa at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Stanley Funeral Home there is in charge.

Mrs. Wheat was the former Nancy Kaufman and was a graduate of the Susan B. Allen Memorial School of Nursing.

Her survivors include her husband, a Skelly Oil Company employee now working in Tulsa. (El Dorado Times, January 18, 1971)

WHITE, EVELYN M.

Evelyn M. White, 91, Augusta, retired Cessna machinist, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2006.

Rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday and mass at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, both at St. James Catholic Church in Augusta. Burial will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence.

Evelyn was the daughter of Leslie G. and Mary A. (Piper) Flowers.

She is survived by daughter, Patsy Mayo and her husband, Glen of El Dorado.

WILLHITE, LLOYD

Lloyd Willhite, 73, of Rosalia, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at his home. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Blankenship Cemetery, Rosalia.

He was born April 4, 1932 near Rosalia, the son of Vernon Ray and Laura (Gray) Willhite. He spent all his life in the Rosalia area and was a farmer and stockman.

On Feb. 28,1 953, he married Mary Harsh at Bentonville, Ark.

Lloyd was a member of the Rosalia United Methodist Church; Farm Bureau, and the Rosalia Fire District Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, son, Kenneth Willhite of Rosalia, brothers Vernon C. Willhite of Rosalia, and Larry L. Willhite of Leon; sisters, Donnese Harsh of Cassoday, Elsie Haines and RoJean Owen, both of El Dorado, grandsons, Kyle Willhite of Rosalia and Luke Willhite of El Dorado.

A memorial has been established in his memory with the Rosalia United Methodist Church and may be left at Carlson Funeral Home who is assisting the family with the arrangements. (El Dorado Times, Tuesday, February 14, 2006)

WILLIS, MARY S. (MRS. HENRY)

Mrs. Mary S. Willis, 83, died Saturday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Wichita.

Born in Hays, Kan., she came to El Dorado in 1966 from Hutchinson, Kan. Her husband, Henry J., preceded her in death.

There are no immediate survivors.

WILSON, DOROTHY N. SNELLING

Dorothy N. Snelling Wilson, 89, of Marion, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services are 11 a.m. Monday, March 13, at Zeiner Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born Jan. 19, 1917 on the family homestead in Chase county, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Silver) Sidener. Dorothy grew up in the Wonsevu area and graduated from Burns High School in 1935. She lived in the Florence area for most of her life. She moved to Potwin in 1995.

She was a homemaker and waitress at the Town and Country Café in Florence for 17 years.

She was married to Richard L. Snelling on Jan. 18, 1936. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1994. She and Woodrow Wilson were married on Oct. 14, 1995. He preceded her in death in August 2005.

Survivors include: sons, Richard Duane Snelling and wife Donna of El Dorado and Dale Snelling and wife Loretta of Marion; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.

WILSON, MINERVA

Mrs. Minerva Wilson, 92, Buffalo, Mo., mother of five El Dorado residents, died yesterday at Buffalo.

Funeral services will be held there Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial also will occur at Buffalo.

Survivors are: four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Maddux, Mrs. Melvin Maddux and Mrs. Iva Wimberly, all of El Dorado, and Mrs. Ima Hill, Buffalo and five brothers, Artie and Otto Wilson, both of El Dorado, Bert Wilson, Monet, Mo., Alvis Wilson, Buffalo, and Hubert of the home; 30 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. WOMACKS, DONALD "DON"

Donald "Don" Womacks, 88, of El Dorado, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at his home. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Latham Cemetery in Latham. Visitation with the family will be 6-7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

He was born Sept. 23, 1917 at Atlanta, the son of Claude and Georgia (Bright) Womacks. He was an oil field superintendent for several companies and had lived in El Dorado for the past 60 years. He lived previously in both Latham and Roxbury. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

On Sept. 6, 1938, Don and Phyllis Barnhill were united in marriage in Wichita. She preceded him in death on April 13, 1996.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon Hanson of Sun City West, Ariz., Connie Staton of Auburn, Ala., and Lori Johnson of Rantoul, sister, Grace Lowe of Winfield, brother, S. C. Womacks of Winfield, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.

WYNN, MRS. GEORGE

Mrs. George Wynn, 86, former El Doradoan died Sunday at Harbor City, Calif., where she was making her home with a granddaughter, Mrs. Albert Eye.

Funeral services will be held at Lawndale, Calif., Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Pierce Del Fox Brothers Mortuary.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. T. D. Pigg, Sun City, Calif., and Mrs. Dorothy Thuma, West Covina, Calif., three sons, Earl Presson, Torrence, Calif., Edward Presson, Chula Vista, Calif., and Frank Presson, Wichita, 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, the late George Wynn was for many years a merchant policeman in El Dorado. (El Dorado Times, January 19, 1971)

YOUNG, BERTHA E.

Mrs. Bertha e. Young, 87, of Ponca City, Okla., died Sunday there. Mrs. Young was a former resident of El Dorado.

Funeral services will be conducted at the A. M. Trout and Sons chapel in Ponca City, Okla., at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be conducted here at Sunset Lawns cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Donald D. McCracken, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Mrs. Young moved ton Ponca City in 1924. She was born June 27, 1883, at Roan County, W. Va. She married Plummer E. Young in 1908 at Spencer, W. Va.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Klufa and Mrs. Eddie Goodman, and one son, James E. Young, all of Ponca City, Okla., three sisters, Mrs. Luther Connally, Elkview, W. Va., Mrs. Tommy Thomas, of Akron, Ohio and Mrs. T. G. Mulvaney, of 511 North Denver. Four grandchildren also survive. (El Dorado Times, December 14, 1970)
