COX, BURL LEE

Burl Lee Cox, 69, El Dorado, was found dead in his home shortly after midnight yesterday by police after they recieved a call from a neighbor.

Mrs. Clarence Haskell notified police that Cox, sitting in a rocking chair in the front room of the house appeared to be dead.

Police found the front door of the house open but a screen door locked from the inside when they arrived. Death was believed to be from natural causes. He apparently had been dead since Wednesday. Cox, a retired farmer, had lived in El Dorado since 1945.

Born Nov 18, 1888, in Missouri. Mr. Cox lived in Douglass and Rock before moving to El Dorado.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mable Bellew, Augusta, and Mrs. Mary McNichles, Leon; four sons, Clifford, Oxford, Kans.; Cleo, Fort Morgan, Colo.; Earl, El Dorado, and John, Augusta, and 13 grandchildren.

Mother Dies In Winfield

Lytha C. Lipscomb, 81, Winfield, mother of Clifford Cox, John Cox and Mary McKickles, all of Augusta, died Tuesday at a Winfield hospital.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. today at the Douglass Cemetery. Rev. Don Hale officiated.

She was born June 2, 1900 in Foraker, Okla., to Mr. and Mrs. John Cox.

She married Roy Tucker in 1943. He preceded her in death in 1954.

FORBES, RAYMOND CHARLES

Raymond Forbes Rites Saturday.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Hilyard Funeral Home in Douglass for Raymond Charles Forbes, 64, who died Tuesday at Osteopathic hospital in Wichita. The Rev. Lewis McPherron, of Arkansas City and the Rev. Keith Purcell of Douglass will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Dougass cemetery.

Raymond Charles Forbes was born July 10, 1904 at Wichita, the son of Charles and Dollie Forbes. He was married to Lenora Cline on Jan. 10, 1923 at Winfield.

He was employed at Beech Aircraft for 26 and a half years and was a member of the Douglass Christian Church.

Survivors include his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Cline and Mrs. Joan Fulk of Wichita and Miss Betty Forbes of the home; his mother, Mrs. Dollie Forbes of Augusta; a brother, Lee Forbes of Wichita; a sister, Mrs. Velma Nutter of Augusta; six grandchildren and on great granddaughter. John Edward Jackle, 62, of Douglass died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999.

He was a retired Cessna Aircraft database systems analyst and engineer.

JACKLE, SHIRLEY

Shirley Jackle, 59, Douglass, died Wednesday morning, July 20, 1994, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, at the First Christian Church of Douglass, where she was a member. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

She was born July 14, 1935 in Augusta as the daughter of Gerald C. and Nellie Ruth McCullough Dennett.

On Nov. 5, 1956, she married John Jackle in Miami, Okla.

The homemaker is survived by her husband, John of the home; three sons, Jerry of Douglass, John Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., James of Turpin, Okla.; two daughters, Glenda Condon, Kristi Davis, both of Wichita; her sister, Barbara White of Augusta; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.

Snider dies at 48 in area hospital

Homemaker Carolyn Joyce Snider, 48, of Towanda died Saturday, Feb. 13, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.

The funeral was this afternoon at the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel in Augusta and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. C.M. Howell officiated.

She was born Jan. 8, 1940 to William A. "Bud" Dennett and Barbara E. Ingold in Augusta.

On July 2, 1955 she married Hubert D. "Sam" Snider in Augusta. He preceded her in death in 1986. The couple lived in Fort Collins, Colo., from 1972 to 1978.

Survivors are sons, Mike of Fort Collins, Steven of Towanda; daughter, Kathy Pratt of Towanda; brothers, David Dennett of Augusta, Doug Dennett of McLouth and four grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Butler County Hospice, Inc. at 720 W. Central in El Dorado, 67042.

Huburt Dale "Sam" Snider, 49, Towanda, died today at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.

He was born March 20, 1936 in Wichita to George C. and Alice Sheppard Snider.

M. Vaughn Dagel, 81, Wichita, retired Cessna Aircraft tooling department employee, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2006.

Visitation with family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, with service scheduled at 1 p.m. Thursday, both in the Garden Chapel of Watson Funeral Home in Wichita. Graveside will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors and the Northstar Masonic Lodge presiding.

Mr. Dagel was very active at various Wichita senior centers, where he enjoyed playing cards and dancing.

Douglass Man Electrocuted

Rites Friday

Funeral services will be held at the Douglass First United Methodist church at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon forFred Darter, 26, of Douglass. Interment will be in the Douglass cemetery.

He was electrocuted Wednesday in an accident at the Vulcan Materials Corp., Wichita where he was working as a self employed contractor. Darter’s ladder came into contact with a high voltage power line.

Sgt. D. Gadberry of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department said Darter was standing on an aluminum scaffold and was attempting to lower his aluminum paint ladder when he accidentally swung it into the overhead line.

The Douglass man fell 30 feet from the scaffold to the ground, but Sgt. Gadberry attributed the man’s death to electrocution, saying Darter was dead before hitting the ground.

McKNIGHT, EMORY E.

McKnight Services Held On Tuesday

Emory E. McKnight, 70, El Dorado, former sheriff of Butler County, died Sunday morning, after an illness of three months.

Born near Rose Hill, Kan., Mr. McKnight farmed the McKnight homestead until he moved to El Dorado in 1916. He became deptury sheriff and later was elected to two terms as sheriff of Butler County. Upon retirement from office, he operated the Butler hotel for 13 years, until his retirement in 1948. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at El Dorado.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Opal McKnight, and daughter Marilyn, of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Fred Craig, and Mrs. Mary Corn, Wichita, Mrs. Ed Learned, Geuda Springs, Kan., and Mrs. Richard Dennett, Howard, Kan., and two brothers, Ray McKnight, Wichita, and Charley McKnight, Wellington.

The death of Frank Clare McKnight, 71, occurred Monday afternoon in St. Joseph's hospital in Wichita after an illness of six months. Funeral service time will be announced by the Dunsford Funeral home.

Mr. McKnight, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom McKnight, was born in Rose Hill. He was married to Carrie Learned on December 24, 1895.

Other survivors are these children - Mrs. Wilbur Shepherd of Caldwell; Mrs. Harold McMillan of Gunnison, Colo.; Mrs. Lee Norton of Rose Hill; Mrs. Stanley Johnson of Augusta; Tom and Forest McKnight of Marshland, Nebr.

Dunsford Funeral Home will announce funeral service plans for Mrs. Carrie Thomas McKnight, 78, whose death occurred at Caldwell. She was married to Frank McKnight December 24, 1895 and his death occurred in December 1946. She has been a resident of this county since 1884, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Learned.

Surviving children are: Mrs. Wilbur Shepherd, Caldwell; Mrs. Harold McMillian, Runnison, Colo.; Mrs. Lee Norton, Rose Hill; Mrs. Stanley Johnson, Augusta; Mrs. Ona Brasier, Caldwell; Lois McKnight; and Tom and Forrest McKnight, Marshland, Nebr. Nancy A. Meyer, 58, of Wichita and formerly of El Dorado, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997 at her home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at the Kirby Morris Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mrs. Meyer was born Sept. 19, 1939 in El Dorado, the daughter of Raleigh and Mary E. Love. On Oct. 14, 1984 she was married to Walt "Sonny" Meyer in Westmoreland, Kansas.

She was employed by the Richie Corporation and was a member of the Countryside Christian Church.

Surviving family include her husband, Walt "Sonny" of the home, one son, Jeff Dever of Arkansas City, one stepson, Brad Meyer of Manhatten, three brothers, R. Keith Love of El Dorado, David A. Love of Arkansas Pass, Texas and Ernie Love of Manhatten. two sisters, Darlene Brecht of Ardmore, Okla., and Margaret Maguire of Wichita, and two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society, Hospice Inc. and the Countryside Christian Church.
