Mrs. Betty Castle, 84, Mission, Texas, former resident of Augusta, passed away on June 26, 2007.

A graveside memorial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.

She is survived by: sister, Carol Wrench of Joplin, Mo.; daughters, Karen Eberting of Olathe and Camille Deer of Loch Lloyd, Mo.; grandchildren, John Harding of Wichita and Kris Massingill of Wamego.

COFFEE, GARY D.

Gary Duane Coffee, 59, United States Air Force Vietnam veteran and taxi driver in Nashville, Tenn., passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2007.

There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, at Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home in Augusta. Burial with Air Force Honor Guard at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Those attending should use the 12th St. entrance.

He was born on Sept. 24, 1947 to Douglas and Edith "Terry" Coffee in Vallejo, Calif.

His survivors are: parents, Roy and Edith "Terry" Pickett of Augusta; brother, Ronald Coffee of Farmington, N.M.; daughters, Diana Pruitt of Kennesaw, Ga., Katherine and Laura Coffee of Los Angeles, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas and his sister, Diana Norris.

CROWE, JOHN S.

John S. Crowe, 87, Augusta, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007, at his home with family by his side.

A memorial service was held on Friday, July 20, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

John spent his early adult years serving as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Army Air Force. He was a successful business man and spent his working years as partner in Husky Drilling Company and as a self-employed accountant before retiring in 1984. He married Violet Norton in 1946. Together they raised three beautiful children. He was always there and ready to help his children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

His survivors include: sons, John (Martha) Crowe, and Larry Crowe; grandchildren, Jeremy (Lorraine), Shauna (Terance), Cara, and Brayden; great-grandchildren, Dion, Kaitlyn, and Bryin.

DRYDEN, GARY W.

Gary W. Dryden, 65, Augusta, loving husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 21, 2007.

Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, and with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, at the First United Methodist Church, 2420 N. Ohio in Augusta. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.

He was born to Marion and Mary Ellen Dryden on July 22, 1942 in Iola. He married Judy Merscham on Nov. 15, 1959.

Gary was an active member in the Augusta Community including American Cancer Society Relay of Life, Augusta Chamber of Commerce, Butler County Board of Realtors, The United Methodist Church, and real estate for over 35 years. He was owner of Simmons Realty, Century 21 and broker for JP Weigand. He was very dedicated to the Augusta Lions Club at the State and District level and a member since 1959. Gary's life long committment to the people of Augusta is evident throughout his life. He always balanced work and family duties as a caring and tireless anchor to his family and friends. His motto of "JUST DO IT" is one all will treasure. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, youth sports and "Going North."

Survivors include: wife, Judy; son, Brett (Lynette); daughters, Brenda Storm and Marsha Patterson (Cary). He was a wonderful grandfather to his 10 grandchildren: Candace Haworth, Courtney Patterson, Amanda Parsons (Andrew), Cale Patterson, Jared Storm, Jeff Wooldridge, Garrett Storm, Clay Dryden and Brandt Patterson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Gary was proceeded in death by both parents and one grandson, John Wooldridge.

Memorials established to Kansas Lions Sight Foundation and Harry Hynes Hospice.

Kacie C. Ducharme, 27, mother, daughter and sister, of Augusta, passed away Monday, June 25, 2007.

Susan Darlene Durham, 52, Augusta, retired IRS customer service employee, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2007, after a five year fight with cancer.

Services are pending with inurnment in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. A memorial will be announced at a later date.

HAGEBUSCH, CRYSTAL LYNN

Crystal Lynn (Albert) Hagebusch, 43, Augusta, dedicated child care provider, went to be with her Aunt Carol, Uncle Charlie, her grandparents, and her Lord, suddenly on Tuesday, July 3, 2007.

In lieu of a traditional service, friends and family are invited to join in celebration of Crystal's life, at the shelter in Garvin Park (by the ball diamonds), from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2007. It will be a gathering to remember Crystal with stories, pictures and special memories.

She was born on Sept. 7, 1964, in El Dorado to Francis Albert and Shirley Ross.

She is survived by her parents and was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by: brothers, Jerry Caudle and wife, Lee-Ann, Johnny Lee and wife, Brandi, and James Lee and wife, Carey; nieces and nephews, Kendall and Daylan Caudle, Nicole Romans, Kendall and Taylor Riggs, Tanner Lee, Jordan, Caelei and Gabrielle Martin; step-sons, Chris and Ryan Hagebusch.

Russell Don Hartness, 60, Towanda, welder, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

His survivors include: his wife, Nelda; son, Richard Hartness; daughters, Sara and Tia Hartness, and Sherri Dawn Bordelon; step-sons, Eric Deyle and Kahil Anderson; father, Richard B. Hartness; brothers, Tom, Wesley, and Kevin Kester; sisters, Debbie Sproul and Brenda Snyder; 14 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

KNAPP, DARRELL E.

Darrell E. Knapp, 80, of Augusta, retired Plumbers and Pipefitters Association contractor, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2007.

Viewing from 1 to 8 p.m. with family visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Service at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.

Darrell was born in Howard on Nov. 6, 1926, the son of the late Harry Glen and Alva (Perry) Knapp. Mr. Knapp served in the Army during WWII and was also a foreman for Buckley Mechanical. He was a Shriner and a member of Wichita A's and Bluestem Vintage & Classic Car clubs. In November 1965 he married Joyce Turnquist in Wichita. She survives.

Other survivors: a son, Chuck Knapp and wife Chelle of Augusta; daughter, Mary Statton and husband Ken or Claremore, Okla.; sisters, Ruth Arlene McCollum of Fall River and Naomi May Lacey of Wichita; grandchildren, Michael Joshua, Daniel and Lily Knapp and Steven Statton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Knapp.

LIPSCOMB, JOHN S.

John S. Lipscomb, 96, of Augusta, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2007.

Visitation from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.

John was born in Butler County, Kansas on Dec. 10, 1910, the son of the late Charles Russell and Amy Effie (Simpson) Lipscomb. He retired as a unit operator from Mobil Oil after 42 years. On June 18, 1932 he married Lorraine (Hyde) in Wellington. She preceded him in death. Sisters, Faith Heidelbaugh, Violet Carter and Doris Marshall preceded him in death as well.

His survivors include: daughter, Vicki Hagen and husband Jerry of Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughters, Joni Quantrille of Adelanto, Calif.; and Kristi Hagen of Las Vegas, Nev.; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Ruth Redington of Augusta; and Genevieve Werly of Topeka.

Robert "Bob" Wilbur Pankey, 98, Augusta State Farm insurance agent, passed away, July 4, 2007.

SAUNDERS, MONA B.

Mona B. Saunders, 83, homemaker of Augusta, passed away Sunday, July 9th, 2007.

Graveside service was held today at Elmwood Cemetery, Ohio St. entrance, Augusta.

Mrs. Saunders was born in Wichita, on Nov. 13, 1923, the daughter of the late Louis Basulta and Flotilda Valdez. In November 1943 she married Earl Saunders. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: daughter, Betty Corbin and husband David of Towanda; sister, Mary Bullock of Wichita; grandchildren, Richard Corbin and Chris Corbin and wife Linda; great-grandchildren, Cayenne, Caden and Brody Corbin, Canyon and Hunter Corbin and Randi Lang.

TOUSSAINT, ALMA BAILEY

Alma Bailey Toussaint, 84, Douglass, retired accountant and member of the Wichita State University Plaza of Heroines, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007.

Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Service at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Douglass United Methodist Church.

She married Aaron Dale Bailey on July 9, 1941 and to this union three children were born; son, John (deceased) and daughters, Carol (John) Bevelhymer of Wichita, and Kathy (Tom) Blair of Atlanta, Kan. She is also survived by her sisters, LaVerne Pyatt of Springfield, Mo. and Betty George of Marshfield, Mo.; four granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren. After Mr. Bailey's death she later married Joseph Toussaint on Aug. 12, 1989.

A memorial is established with Douglass Public Library.

WARDEN, EVERETT

Everett Warden, 74, passed away on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007.

A private family service will be held. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. this evening at Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home, Augusta.

Born in Portland, Ore. on April 25, 1933 to Stanley and Lavesta (Rowles) Warden, he married Lucrecia Zaldivar Oct. 19, 1957, in Milwaukee, Wis. He was a U.S. Army and Air Force Veteran who later became an over the road trucker.

Survivors include: spouse, Lue of the home; sons, Joel of Leon and Teo of Burns; daughter, Valerie of Augusta; sisters, June Williams of Sheridan, Ark. and Jackie Gustafson of Bend, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents; brother, Howard Warden; sons, Scott and Mark Warden.

WEINS, MELVIN

Melvin Weins, 71, Neosho, Mo., retired Boeing employee and former resident of Towanda, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2007.

Funeral service was held this afternoon at the First Christian Church in Augusta.

He is survived by: wife, Betty of the home; sons, Gene Wiens and David (Diane) Wiens; daughters, Sherrie (Earl) Bender and Christy (Art) Bacon; sister, Sharon Harrison of El Dorado; seven grandchildren.

YOUNGBLOOD, JACKIE RAY

Jackie Ray "Jack" Youngblood, 76, was born in Augusta, on June 13, 1931 to Percy Brooks Youngblood and Helen Byrdene Ray, and is the oldest of two. On July 12, 2007 he passed away peacefully at Franciscan Hospice House in University Place, Washington.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 20, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta, with full military honors.

Jackie R. Youngblood (also known as Jack, Jackie, Red or Blood to those who were close to him), served his country with honor and distinction with over 30 plus years military service culminating with his retirement in July 1989 at the grade of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Forst (USAF). His military career included time with the Navy Reserve and Kansas Air National Guard prior to entering active duty USAF service in July 1963 as a fighter pilot. Contributions to his country as a fighter pilot in the USAF were an important part of Jack's life. Through his dedication to duty, he was a part of history which included the Cuba Missile Crisis of 1962, the Cold War Deterrence in Europe, numerous trips to South East Asia during the Vietnam Conflict from 1966-72 to include the bombing of North Vietnam in 1966 to the fall of Saigon in 1972. His accomplishments include over 263 combat missions over Vietnam and him being an early member of the 100 missionsn over North Vietnam Club in July 1867 and a member of the River Rats Association (a distinct area known for the heaviest air defense capabilities of the North Vietnamese). His awards include four Disinguished Flying Crosses, over 20 Air Medals and numerous other military medals. He piloted various aircraft to include the F105 Thunder Chief, F100 Super Saber, F86 Saber, O-2 and OV-10 Forward Air Control Aircraft, with his favorite being the F105 better known as the THUD. His career culminated with him being the Chief of Operations for an Airborne Battle Staff aboard a C130 in the mid 1980's.

Jackie will best be known to his family and close friends as a loving, warm and caring person with a dry sense of humor who used it quite frequently. He was a loving son, brother, and husband who cared for the ones he loved. As a father and grandfather he was always there as a teacher-mentor and most importantly as Dad. He lived his life by trying to always do the right thing and by treating others with dignity and respect while expecting the same in return. He was an honorable man with a lot of integrity, a strong fighter who always kept his word, and a man filled with passion and dedication to his country and family. When he found he had erred in judgment, he acknowledged it and asked for forgiveness. He will be truly missed by all those who knew him.

In 1949, he graduated from Augusta High School. He completed an associate's degree from the El Dorado Junior College in 1951, where he also played football and later completed his baccalaureate degree at Kansas Newman University in 1974 with an emphasis in business administration. After his retirement in 1989, he went back to school to learn about Golf Course Management, since golfing was always a lifelong passion for him.

He was pre-deceased in death by his wife Nelle Charlene Kisecker in 2003.

He is survived by: a daughter, Charla Youngblood and spouse Roy Jones of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son, Mark Youngblood and wife, Margaret of Yokosuka, Japan; four grandchildren, Jackie Youngblood and fiancee' Noeun Gnik, Joelnell Hawkins and husband Sean, Dereck Youngblood and Devon Youngblood; one great-grandson, Ian Hawkins, a great-granddaughter to be born in August 2007, Lena Youngblood-Gnik; one brother, David Youngblood and wife Rilla of Sealy, Texas; one niece, Kim Davidson and husband Jeff, and three nephews, Aaron Youngblood and wife Connie, Eric Youngblood and wife Pamela, and Shon Youngblood and fiancee' Mandy Taylor.
