DUETHMAN, TERRY EDWARD

Terry E. Duethman, 49, Augusta, formerly of Paola, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at the Children's Mercy Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Andover. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, with visitation following at 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Wilson & Son Funeral Home in Paola. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola; with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa.

Terry was born on Sept. 17, 1958 in Ottawa to Wilfred "Wil" L. and Wilma "Willie" O. Ruby Duethman. He grew up in Paola and attended Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School and graduated from Paola High School in 1976. He enrolled at Kansas State University and graduated with a bachelor degree in Animal Science in 1981. After graduation, Terry moved to Attica and worked for the local veterinary clinic. He then was employed at Cargill Feed Products and moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where he lived until being transferred to Wichita when the company was purchased by Westway Feed Products, before making his home in Augusta. While working at Westway he was in charge of the Liquid Feed Division. He traveled through the state helping cattle ranchers with the proper nutrition of their cattle. He was also a partner in a land development company with BJ DeGrande. He was married for 21 years and had three children.

Terry was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Catholici Church in Andover and served on the parish council. He was also active in sports in the Augusta area, coaching several baseball, football, and basketball teams throughout the years. He was also active with the Recreation Board in Towanda, the Kansas Livestock Association and the National Cattle and Beef Association. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He enjoyed raising livestock, farming, hunting and fishing, but his main focus was his family.

He is survived by: his parents, Wil and Willie Duethman of Paola; children, Emily Jo, Nicholas Clayton, and Noah Augustine Duethman of the home; brothers, Charles (Susie) Duethman of St. Charles, La. and Jon (Jenna) Duethman of Broken Arrow, Okla.; sisters, Mary Jo (Mike) Brosch of Leawood, Jan (Richard) Torrez of Topeka; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and friends who will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Sue Duethman in 1954 and his grandparents.

FUDGE, JOAN E.

Joan E. Fudge, 71, Douglass, retired WSU secretary, died on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007.

Private service will be held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Fudge, and an infant son.

HACKLER, ERIE "CHUB" LOREN

Erie Loren Chub Hackler, 75, of El Dorado, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 11, 1995. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cassoday Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 3, 1919, iin Longlane, Mo., one of 11 children, the son of John and Berta Wilson Hackler. On De.c 17,1942, he and Genevieve Ellis were married in Eureka. He had been a retired carpenter and stockman in the El Dorado area most of his life.

Survivors include: wife, Genevieve, sons, Ron of Cassoday, Tom of El Dorado, daughters, Joyce Harrison of Independence, Mo., Berta Call of Eudora; brothers, A. E. Duke Hackler, D. W. Deac Hackler, both of El Dorado, K. L. Kef Hackler of Grove, Okla., sisters, Hilma Braman, Hope Kropf, both of El Dorado, Sharon Morenco of San Jose, Calif., Joy Cox of Campbell, Calif; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. HACKLER, GENEVIEVE ETHEL

Genevieve Ethel Hackler, 82, of El Dorado, died July 11, 2006, at Lakepoint Nursing Home. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m Saturday at the Cassoday Cemetery. Her family will receive friends between the hours of 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.

Genevieve was born Oct. 19, 1923 in El Dorado, one of eight children of Clarence and Elsie McReynolds Ellis. She has lived all of her life in Butler County. On Dec. 17, 1942 she married Erie Loren (Chub) Hackler in Eureka. They were married for 52 years. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1995. She was a wonderful homemaker. For several years she had worked as a waitress for Howard Johnson's Restaurant after her children were grown. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Since May of 2005 she resided at the Grand Villas of Eureka. She enjoyed the people at the Villa especially going to the beauty shop.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Sondra Hackler of Cassoday, son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Joann Hackler of Rosalia; daughter and son-in-law, Berta and Don Call of Eudora; sister, Corrine Booth of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter Joyce in 2004.

HACKLER, HURLEY F.

Hurley F. Hackler, 70, of Philadelphia, brother of Mrs. Stanley Braman and Mrs. A. H. Kropf, Jr., and E. L. Hackler, Perry Hackler and D. W. Hackler, all of El Dorado, died this morning. Services and burial will be Friday in Philadelphia.

He was born March 28, 1931 at Buffalo, Mo., the son of John W. and Berta Wilson Hackler. He was brought to Butler County by his parents as a small child and attended schools in the Rosalia area.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1930, retiring in 1954 with his commission as lieutenant commander. During World Warr II he served in the North Atlantic area, convoying troops and supplies to Europe.

Following his Navy career he served several years in the Merchant Marines on oil tankers for the Sun Oil company. He earned a captain's commission in the Merchant Marines and was on inactive duty at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of the home and a daughter, Mrs. John Hopwood, and a son, Hurley S. all of Philadelphia, three other sisters, Mrs. Sharon Marceno of Mountain View, Calif., and Mrs. Melva Reed of San Antonio, Texas; and two other brothers, K. L. Hackler of Grove, Olka. and Duke Hackler of Mountain View, Calif. (El Dorado Times, October 26, 1983)

HACKLER, WILLIAM DEAN

William Dean Hackler, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Deacon W. Hackler of El Dorado Route 1, died suddenly this morning.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Towanda cemetery, with the Rev. William Bullard, pastor of the Fairview Baptist church, officiating.

The child was born at El Dorado on Feb. 22. Surviving are the parents; two sister, Teresa and Lisa and a brother, Randy all of the home; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Ratts of 409 North Jones and Mrs. Berta Hackler of El Dorado.

HAIGLER, RAY LEE

Services for Ray Lee Haigler, 21, of El Dorado, were held Wednesday at Temple Baptist Church. Burial followed at Leon (Kan.) Cemetery. Mr. Haigler died Sunday, April 22, 1990 at Wichita.

The Rev. Mel Brown officiated at the service. Mrs. Barbara Brown was organist. Christy Allmond was vocalist. Songs included "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "The Warrior Is A Child".

Casket bearers were Phillip Holcomb, Mark Clemons, Jim Rine, Alan Robinson, John Holliday, Howard Mitchell. Chuck Counterman and David Hunt were honorary bearers. Kirby Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (El Dorado Times, April 26, 1990)

HALL, ERNEST MCKINLEY

Ernest McKinley Hall, 93 of Sedgwick, died Saturday, March 3, 1990, at Riverside Hospital, Wichita. Graveside services will be Wednesday, 2:30 p.m. March 7 at Sunset Lawns Cemetery, El Dorado.

Mr. Hall was born August 1, 1896 in Warren Ohio the son of Samuel and Ester Hall. His wife, Zora T. Hall, preceded him in death in 1969.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in El Dorado.

His son Carl Hall of North Newton survives.

HALL, SUSAN I.

Susan I. Hall 76, o El Dorado, died Wednesday August 8, 1990 at the Susan B. Allen Hospital. Services 10 a.m. Saturday, August 11, Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hall was born February 28, 1914, in El Dorado, daughter of Charles and Mable Randall Bailey. She was a homemaker worked at Boeing and was a waitress.

She is survived by one son, Mitchell "Bud" Pyle of El Dorado, one daughter, Peggy Nelson of Towanda; one brother, Waldo "Ike" Bailey of El Dorado; two sisters, Creasa "Tiny" Malan of Columbus, Ohio, Grace Robertson of Alameda, N.M.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

She was preoceeded in death by her parents, three brothers, one grandon and one great-grandchild.

A memorial has been established for the Butler-Sedwick Counties Hospice Inc.

HAMILTON, CREED

Creed Hamilton, aged 70 years, died this morning at his home, 703 S. Main St., following a year's illness. He had been seriously ill, however, only for the psat few months.

Mr. Hamilton was a retired farmer and stockman and had led a colorful life. He was born in Logan Co., Ill on Jan. 6, 1865 and came to Kansas with his parents where he was 13 years old where the family settled in Chelsea Township. He had lived most of his life in the Chelsea and Sycamore Communities with the exception of the past 15 years, when he resided in Garfield Co., Oklahoma.

The El Dorado man made the race into Oklahoma when the Cherokee Strip was opened. Mr. Hamilton was married to Miss Cora Whitham at Chelsea on March 31, 1899. He was a member of the Christian Church here and also belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Modern Woodmen of America.

He is survived by his widow, 4 sons, William H. Hamilton of Valleytown, Mont.; Harry Hamilton of Cassoday; George D. of El Dorado; Lee of Cassoday; 4 daughters, Mrs. Roy Hobbs, Rt. 4, Mrs. Glenn Chapman Route 6, Mrs. Tom Sproul of Gas City, and Miss Bernice Hamilton of El Dorado. 4 brothers, Oscar H. and Clarence both of El Dorado, Charles of Buffalo, Wyo, and Ross Hamilton of Ontario, Canada; and a sister Mrs. A. O. Faunce of Paso Robles, Calif. A daughter Mrs. Clarence McCright died in 1930 and two other brothers and a sister also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Byrd Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will be made in Chelsea Cemetery. Members of the Modern Woodmen of America will have charge of the services at the grave. (El Dorado Times, February 23, 1935

Funeral Services for Creed Hamilton, Butler Co., pioneer who died Saturday at his home, 703 S. Main St., were held at the Byrd Funeral Home yesterday afternoon with Rev. Fred W. Condit, pastor of the Christian Church officiating. A large group of friends attended the services with members of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Odd Fellows Lodge present in a body.

A male quartet composed of Lee Webster, C. W. Harvey, Dr. E. W. Kerr, and Roy Morris sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Lead Kindly Light" and Mr. Webster sang a solo "Going Home". They were accompanied by Mrs. William Lange. Pallbearers were Frank Williams, Robert Templeton, John Milbourne, Henry Derstein, George Hughes and C. O. Coggeshell.

Interment was made with Chelsea where Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton were married in 1889 and where the couple spent many years of their married life. (El Dorado Times, February 27, 1935

HAMILTON, CORA ELIZABETH

Cora Elizabeth Hamilton, aged 71 years, 703 S. Main St., died here early today although she had been in poor health for the past two years her death came unexpectedly.

She was born in Ripley Co., Ind on July 10, 1871, where she had lived until she was 10 years old, when she moved with her parents to Sycamore Township. She also had resided in El Dorado for the past 22 years.

She was married to Creed Hamilton, March 31, 1889 at Chelsea. He died February 23, 1935.

Mrs. Hamilton was a member of the El Dorado Christian Church. She was also formerly a member of the Rebecca Lodge.

Four daughters, Mrs. Roy Hobbs, and Mrs. Glen Chapman both of El Dorado; Mrs. Tom Sproul, Coas City; Mrs. R. W. Miles, Hobbs, N. Mexico; four sons, William H., Addy, Wash., Harry and Lee both of Cassoday, and George D., Towanda; 3 sisters, Mrs. Jane Crossley, Valley Center, N. Dak.; Mrs. Ora Pitser, Avery, Okla.; and Mrs. Blanch Day, Arkansas City; 1 brother I. V. Whitman, Chandler, Oklahoma, 19 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren survived her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Creed Hamilton who died at her home, Friday, were held yesterday afternoon at the Byrd Funeral Home, with Rev. Ray Lessig, Pastor of the Christian Church officiating. Interment was made in the Chelsea Cemetery. Pallbearers all grandsons of Mrs. Hamilton, included: Paul Handle, Robert Diller, Clifford Dewitt, Forest Chapman, J. C. Hobbs and Richard Hamilton.

Two tenor and alto duets were sung by Mrs. Fred Burr and W. C. Lange. They were "Ivory Palaces" and "Rock of Ages". Mr. Lange also sang a solo "Going Home". Mrs. Fred Burr was the accompanist. (El Dorado Times, May 5, 1943)

HAMM, JOHN HOWARD

John Howard Hamm, 32, died Tuesday, October 2, 1990 in Wichita. Rosary 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 4, at Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. Services, 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 5, at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church of Andover, with burial at noon, at Sunset Lawns Cemetery of El Dorado.

Mr. Hamm was born March 15, 1958 in Glendive, Mont.

Survivors include his mother, Rosemary Hamm of Wichita; four brothers, Charles Hamm of Towanda, Philp Hamm of Tulsa, Okla., David Hamm of Austin, Texas, Larry Hamm of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Rose Hamm of Denver, Colo., Stephanie Ruvalo of Santa Fe, N.M. Paula Green of San Pedro, Calif., Kate Higgins of Denver, Colo., Sheila Thomas of Wichita.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc of Wichita and the Butler County Community College Endowment Association

HAMMER, BILL L.

Bill L. Hammer, beloved husband and father, formerly from El Dorado, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at his current place of residence in Ponca City, Okla. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado.

Bill was born on July 24, 1927, to Lelo Jackson and Edna Elizabeth (Jackson) Hammer in El Dorado. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard after high school at an early age. When he was old enough he enlisted with the United States Marines and later with the United States Army serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired El Dorado Texaco Refinery operator. He married Shirley Martin in Newton on Jan. 25, 1952.

Survivors include: his wife, Shirley of Ponca City, Okla.; one son, John Hammer of Towanda; two daughters, Suella Cabrales of El Dorado and Karen Hammer of Arkansas; and one grandson, Joshua Hammer of Towanda.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

GRIFFITH, BILL G. "STANDING BEAR"

Bill G. "Standing Bear" Griffith, 63, of El Dorado, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 19, 1938 to Frank Emmet and Clara May (Hand) Griffith in El Dorado. He spent all of his life in El Dorado and worked for Badwey Phillips '66 Service Station and Bulk Truck for many years. He was a member of the Emporia Avenue Church of Christ; a former member of Temple Baptist Church and Bluestem Auto Club; and a member of the Red Nation of the Cherokee Last Indian Tribes, Square Dance Club and Coin Club.

On Sept. 29, 1956, he was married to Iona Lee Ray in El Dorado. She preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 1985. He later was married to Lois Hiatt on June 13, 1986 in El Dorado.

Survivors include his wife of the home; sons, Mark and wife Kaylene Griffith of Dobbins, Calif.,a nd David and wife Bonnie Griffith of El Dorado, daughters, Nancy L. Byers of El Dorado, Peggy Schupp and husband John of El Dorado and Patricia Castleman and husband Walter of Burns; stepdaughters, Sherlyn Fisher, Linda Trail and Karen Fisher, all addresses unknown, and Barbara Terrones and husband Fred of El Dorado; brothers, Robert Griffith of El Dorado and Paul Griffith of Delta, Colo.; a sister, Edith Griffith of Wichita; 34 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.

GRIFFITH, CLARA MAY

Mrs. Clara Griffith Dies at Wichita

A former El Dorado resident Mrs. Clara May Griffith, 62, died Saturday afternoon at Sedgwick County Hospital, Wichita.

Mrs. Griffith who had been critically ill the past nine days, lived most of her life in El Dorado. She had been a resident of Wichita for the past two years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial Chapel. The Rev. Doyle Patterson, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns cemetery.

Mrs. Griffith was born April 13, 1900, in Michigan and moved here with her family at an early age. She was married in El Dorado July 16, 1915, to Frank E. Griffith.

Surviving are her husband, of the home: four sons, Robert L. 1112 Finney, Billy G., 1420 South High, Alvin H. Wichita and Paul A. Denver.

Three daughters, Ethel and Edith Griffith, of the home; and Mrs. Goldie Rodgers, Denver and brother, Harvey Hand, Stanwood, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Armstrong, Standwood and Mrs. Goldie Yeoman, Lansing, Mich. and nine grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, July 14, 1962)

GRIFFITH, FRANK E.

Frank E. Griffith, a former long-time resident of El Dorado, died early this morning at a Wichita hospital following a two-week illness. Mr. Griffith, who made his home in Wichita, was 70 years old.

Mr. Griffith had been a resident of El Dorado all of his life except for two years spent in Peabody, 1958-59 and three years in Wichita.

He was formerly employed as a house mover and worked for Counter and Son here prior to his retirement in 1951.

He was born in El Dorado on March 17, 1894 and he and Clara May Hand were married here on June 16, 1915. She died July 17, 1962.

Survivors include four sons, Albert, of the home, Robert Lee, 1112 Finney, Paul Allen of Aurora, Colo., and Billy Gene Griffith, 1420 South High; three daughters, Misses Ethel and Edith Griffith, both of the home and Mrs. Goldie Rodgers, Denver, Colo., one brother, Elwood Griffith, Toronto, Kan.; one sister, Mrs. Alta Coulter, Wichita; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial Chapel by the Rev. Doyle Patterson, pastor of Temple Baptist Church. Interment will be made in Sunset Lawns cemetery. (El Dorado Times, June 26, 1964)

Final Rites held for Frank Griffith

Final rites for Frank E. Griffith, 70, a former El Doradoan who died Saturday at Wichita, were conducted Monday afternoon at the Dietz-Pittman Colonial Chapel by the Rev. Doyle Patterson, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jack Gordon sang "The Lily of the Valley" and "The Old Rugged Cross". The organist was Miss Mary Belle Doty.

Serving as casket bearers were Vernon Hale, Vernon Mock, Floyd Fike, Richard Kennedy, Walter Griffith Jr., and Harold Taylor.

Interment was made in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, June 30, 1964)

OAKES, SARA ANN CALLAWAY

Sara Ann Callaway Oakes, 57, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 in Fort Worth. Services are pending in Fort Worth. Interment will be at Kechi Cemetery in Kechi.

She was born April 6, 1944 to the late Cap and Jean Hagan in El Dorado. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1962. She was a retired church secretary.

Survivors include: her husband, George A. Oakes of the home; a son, George N. Oakes of the home; sisters, Susan Lim of California and Lisa Shad of Pennsylvania; a brother, Kevin Selvage of Colwich, a niece, Erin Lim of California; and aunts and uncles, Billie and Butch Denton of El Dorado and Sonny and Erika Nole of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Vivian Eddings.
