SMITH, WAYNE H.

Services for Wayne H. Smith of Route 2, Augusta, who died last Thursday, were held Sunday afternoon at the Dietz-Carlson Colonial Chapel.

The Rev. Chuck Winkler, pastor of the Clearwater United Methodist Church, officiated. Mrs. Walt Ediger played the prelude and the postlude at the organ. Mr. and Mrs. Ediger sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewehre" and "In the Garden".

Casket bearers were Edgar Templeton, John Templeton, Chris Stackley, Fred Weber, Ray Geer and Otis Roblin.

Burial was in McGill Cemetery at Potwin. Military graveside services were conducted by American Legion Post No. 65 of Whitewater. (El Dorado Times, August 18, 1976)

THOMAS, ELIZABETH JANE "BETSY"

Elizabeth Jane Smith moved her family to Kasnas in 1886 and settled on an 80-acre tract of "school land" six miles south of Latham, not far from her brother-in-law James F. Smith. She purchased the east half of the northeast quarter of section 16, township 30, range 7 from the State of Kansas, land the state legislature had set aside for sale to support the Kansas schools system. She and her husband Thomas Henry Smith had moved to Cherokee County, Kansas in 1866 with some of Thomas's brothers, but returned to Indiana as Thomas did not like the Kansas climate. Thomas died on August 21, 1878 and Elizabeth Jane tended a toll gate on the Pike to support her family until they returned to Kansas.

Elizabeth Jane, always known by her nickname Betsy, was born Octomber 30, 1831 in Rush county, Indiana to Isaac and Charlotte (Springer) Terrell. She married Thomas on October 7, 1857 in Rush County, Indiana. Thomas, a son of Thomas and Perthena Smith, was born August 30, 1834 in Rush County, Indiana. Eight children were born to Besty and Thomas, Frances Louisa a son that died in infancy, Emma Jane, Lewis Ellsworth, Rosetta Emily, William Marion, Elmer Thomas and John Henry.

By 1895 Betsy had increased the size of her farm to 240 acres, of which 80 acres were cultivated. She had established an orchard with 300 apple and 400 peach trees and had made other improvements to the farm. Her son, William M, had married in 1894 and soon after moved his bride to this farm to handle the operation. Besty continued to live with this family until her death May 21, 1901. THOMAS, GLEN EDWARDS

Glen Edward Thomas, 86, of El Dorado, died Wednesday, August 12, 1998, at Knutson Manor Nursing Center. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

He was born February 23, 1912 in Pleasant Hill, Mo.,; to Orrie and Zulith Freeman Thomas. He had lived in El Dorado since the 1950's and was a retired machine operator for Cessna Aircraft.

He is survived by one daughter, Ruby Bailey of El Dorado, three grandchildren, Teresa Redburn and Lorie Bailey of El Dorado, and Darlene Gibbs of Wichita, two great-grandchildren, Rodney and Ashley Gibbs of Wichita, and friend, Irene Farris of El Dorado.

TOTTEN, ERIC W.

Eric W. Totten, 34, Chief Warrant Officer, died in Afghanistan on May 5, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Augusta First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Those attending should use the Ohio street entrance.

Visitation with family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 19, at Hillside Funeral home in Augusta.

He is survived by his brothers, Noel, Jr. of Bloomington, Minn., Jim of Tallahassee, Fla., and Otis of New Orleans, La.; sisters, Judi Jackson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Thais Hinz of Duluth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Noel Totten, Sr., in 2005 and his mother in 2004.

TURNER, ALMIRA

Almira Turner services planned

Almira S. Turner, 89, of 211 N. Gordy, died at her home early Sunday morning, Jan. 8. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 27, 1894, in Moneta Valley, Mo., the daughter of Lon and Ida Wolfe Lewis. On May 1, 1916, she married Mack C. Turner in Iola, and in 1917 they moved to El Droado from Iola. Mr. Turner preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1954.

She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include son, Lewis M. Turner, Junction City, brother Melvin Lewis and sister Mable Shoffner, both of Vista, Ca., and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers, two sisters, and grandson Tommy. (El Dorado Times, Page 3, January 9, 1984)

TURNER, JACK F.

Jack F. Turner, 82, of Augusta, retired journeyman and installer for Thermal Products, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.

He was born May 20, 1922, in El Dorado, the son of the late Lloyd and Hazel (Towner) Turner.

Survivors include: companion, Nellie Denning, sons, Ron and his wife Pam of Augusta, Jack W. and his wife Ursula of coffeyville and Lloyd and his wife Sally of Flager Beach, Fla.; daughters, Sandy Sisson and her husband doug of Winfield and Marilyn Turner of Wichita, brothers, David of Arkansas City, Richard of Rosalia, William of Andover, Jim of Denver and John of Clay Center; sisters, Norma Thompson, Barbara Hutson and Mary Camp all of El Dorado and Frances Healy and Carol Goss both of Wichita; 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

TURNER, LEWIS M. "SLICK"

Lewis M. "Slick" Turner, 83, of El Dorado, U.S. Air Force retired colonel, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at his home. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. The casket will not be open.

He was born Feb. 6, 1919, in El Dorado, the son of Mack C. and Almira S. (Lewis) Turner. He graduated from Kasnas State University in 1946, and then received his Masters in Education from Wichita State University in 1972.

He served in the Air Force for 30 years. He and his wife moved to El Dorado in 1986 from Junction City. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, American Legion and the Kansas State University Golden Cats.

On Nov. 14, 1941, he married Doris Agnes Can in Bisbee, Ariz. She preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 1996.

Survivors include sons, Stuart Michael "Mike" Turner of Tucson, Ariz., Douglas "Doug" Carr Turner of of Manvel, Texas, and James Bradford "Brad" Turner of Kansas City, daughter, Suzanne Nichols of Marietta, Ga., and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Thomas Matthew.

TURNER, MACK T.

Mack Turner, Dies; An El Doradoan 47 Years

Mack T. Turner, 73, 110 East Fourth, died here early this morning. A tool dresser for the Rex and Morris Drilling company, he had lived in El Droado since 1917.

Mr. Turner was born Nov. 29, 1880 in Douglass county, Missouri and was married to Almira Lewis on May 1, 1916 at Iola. He was a member of the Christian church.

Survivors besides his wife, include a son, Lt. Col. Lewis (Slick) Turner, with the U.S. Air Force at Bremerhaven, Germany; a daughter, Mrs. Eunice Elliott, Nevada, Mo.; two brothers, W. C. Turner, Los Angeles, and L. J. Turner, rural El Dorado, two sisters, Mrs. Bertie Bowen, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Gertie Williams, California; and five grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.

TURNER, TOMMY

Tommy Turner, 3, Dies in Germany

Three-year old Tommy Turner, son of Lt. Col. and Mrs. Lewis Turner now stationed at Bremerhaven, Germany died unexpectedly Saturday night, according to a cablegram received by the child's grandmother, Mrs. M. C. Turner, 322 West Fourth.

The body will be flown to El Dorado and is expected to arrive Saturday or Sunday. The Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Turner left El Dorado for Germany almost two years ago.

Mrs. Turner is the former Doris Carr of Augusta. In addition to the parents and grandmother, the little boy is survived by two brothers and a sister. (El Dorado Times, Front Page, October 18, 1955)

Antoinette 'Netty' Josephine van der Weele

Antoinette "Netty" Josephine van der Weele, 77, of Independence, formerly of Potwin, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, in Independence, Mo., where she lived for the past 1 1/2 years. Cremation with a private memorial service is planned.

She was born Feb. 12, 1927, in s'Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. Netty, her husband Marinus and children Johanna Patch Schulenberg of Independence, Mo., Louisa Steinhoff of the Chicago area and Marinus Jr. of Paola, immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands in 1957. She worked for Beech Aircraft (Raytheon) for 22 years before retiring in 1988. She was an avid bowler and gardener for many years.

Survivors include: husband, children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A brother survives in Rouen, France, and a sister in Rijswijk, Netherlands.

WAKEFIELD, MANLEY V. "PENNY"

Masonic funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Latham United methodist Church for Manley V. (Penny) Wakefield, 63, who died in his home in Latham Friday morning. November 14, 1975. The Rev. ARt Wilson of Leon officiated. Mrs. Charles Craig and Mrs. Harold Schouten sang "Whispering Hope" and "I Need Thee Every Hour", accompanied by Mrs. Ralph Hearne.

Casket bearers were Masonic brothers, Dean Gilbert, Ralph Hearne, E. G. Craft, James Brewer, John Brewer, Jack Brewer, Burial waas in Latham cemetery, with graveside Masonic rites conducted. Miles Mortuary of Burden was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wakefield had been in failing health for many years. He was born December 28, 1911 near Atlanta, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett (Maggie) Wakefield. He married Bernice Matthews June 6, 1935 in Winfield.

A retired farmer, Penny was a member of the Latham Masonic Lodge No. 401, the Order of the Eastern Star no. 449 and the Latham Lions Club, He had resided in the Latham community for over 40 years.

Mr. Wakefield is survived by his wife, Bernice; a son, Dale and daughter-in-law Kay of Metairie, Louisiana; two granddaughters, Julie and Traci Wakefield; his mother Mrs. Maggie Wakefield of Winfield; two brothers: Carl Wakefield of Atlanta, and Charles Wakefield of Augusta; and one sister, Mrs. Audine Groom of Rock.

Geneva E. Walter of El Dorado, died Wednesday, October 3, 1990 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Rosary, 7 p.m. Friday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, Mass, 10 a.m. Saturday, October 6, at St. Johns Catholic Church, with burial following at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mrs. Walter was born February 14, 1908 in Bellaire, Ohio, the daughter of Frank Mae (Cunningham) Muth. She moved to El Dorado in 1918.

She married Leland C. Walter November 6, 1934 in El Dorado.

Mrs. Walter was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. She was a member of the St. Johns Catholic Church, National Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Daughters of Americas, the Alter Society and the Legion of Mary.

Survivors include three brothers, John Muth of Dallas, Texas., Phlip Muth of Salida, Colo., Frank Muth of Los Angeles, Calif., four sisters, Lucile Thomas of Okmulgee, Okla., Regina Walter of El Dorado, Frances C. Miller of Great Bend, Ruth C. Strumfa of El Dorado; 10 nieces and nine nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, September 26, 1990.

Mr. Walter was born December 23, 1909 in Burns, son of William Francis and Laura Westerhaus Walter. He had lived in the El Dorado area for more than 50 years.

He married Geneva E. Muth, November 6, 1934 in El Dorado.

Mr. Walter was a mechanic for K-T Oil Corporation. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife; one brother, Roland F. Walter of El Dorado, one sister, Elizabeth K. Thomas of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight neices; seven nephews.

WARREN, BEVY E.

Former Wichita Supermarkets Operator Dies

Services were pending Saturday for Bevy E. Warren, 58, former co-owner of three Wichita supermarkets. He was found dead by his wife in his car outside his Houston, Tex., home Friday, apparently after suffering a heart attack.

Warren, who owned two Minimax supermarkets and Memorial Liquors in Houston, formerly was co-owner of the three Winn-Warren IGA Supermarkets, which were sold to Wall IGA in 1966. He lived in Wichita from 1951 until 1966, when he moved to Houston. He also was a director of a Houston bank.

Born in Roswell, N.M., he moved to Wichita from El Dorado., Kan.

Survivors include his widow, Maxine, a son, William T., Houston; a daughter, Mrs. Ann Voth, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Tex, Wichita; and a sister Mrs. Clarice Fry, Fort Worth, Tex. (El Dorado Times, August 16, 1970)

Bevy E. Warren Dies in Houston

Bevy Edgar Warren, 58, former EL Dorado resident, died August 14, at his home, 110 Warrenton, Houston, Tex., succumbing to an apparent heart attack.

Former co-owner of the Wynn-Warren grocery stores here and in Wichita, Mr. Warren was chairman of the board of Wynn-Warren Inc., a supermarket chain.

He was born February 19, 1912, at Roswell, N.M. the son of Thomas A. and Elizabeth R. (Good) Warren. His marriage to Maxine Wilson took place January 22, 1932 at Wichita. Mr. Warren had lived in Houston the past four years, moving there from Wichita where he had resided 13 years. Prior to that time he lived in El Dorado.

A 1932 graduate of El Dorado High school, Mr. Warren was in military service during World War II. He was a member of the Tallowed Baptist church and a 32nd degree Mason. Other memberships included Patmos Lodge No. 97, AF & AM, Elks Lodge, and Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are Mrs. Warren; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Ann Voth, Kansas City, Kans., one son, William T. Warren, Houston, a sister, Mrs. Murl Fry, Fort Worth, Tex., and a brother Tex Warren of Wichita.

Services were held Monday morning in Houston. Additional services were held Wednesday in the El Dorado First Baptist Church with Dr. Max W. Morgan, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Wichita, officiating. (El Dorado Times, August 20, 1970)

Services were held August 19 in the First Baptist church for Bevy E. Warren, former El Dorado resident who died August 14 at his home in Houston, Tex. The Rev. Dr. Max W. Morgan, pastor of the Wichita First Baptist Church, officiated.

Mrs. Amos B. Marsh played organ selections. The casket bearers were John Carnes, Pat Hearrell, George E. Bly, Hugh Syme, Burl Wynn and Herman Kocour.

Attending in groups were members of the Cornerstone and Berean Sunday school classes.

WARREN, THOMAS ANDREW

Thomas Andrew Warren is Dead

Thomas Andrew Warren, a resident of El Dorado since 1925, died at his home, 515 North Washington Street, Saturday afternoon at 3:15 after an illness of a year and a half. He was 46 years old.

Mr. Warren, a steel worker, was born in Arkansas on March 19, 1886 and before coming to El Dorado had lived in Cleburne, Texas. Surviving are his wife: two sons, Bevy and Texas Warren, of El Dorado; a sister, Mrs. R. F. Bohannon of Beaumont, Texas, five brothers, John H. of Tulsa, Okla., W.E. of Dallas, Tex., Hewell, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and W. A. of Clarksville, Ark. and his father and mother also of Clarksville.

Mr. Warren was a member of the Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at the Byrd Funeral Home tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. Fred W. Condit, pastor of the Christian Church officiating. Interment will be made in West Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, August 24, 1932)

WEBER, BERT C.

Services Wednesday for Bert C. Weber

Bert C. Weber, 82, 209 North Denver, died today at Allen Memorial hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist church. Burial will be in Bella Vista cemetery.

Born in 1889 at El Dorado, he married Frankie E. Foster in 1909 at El Dorado. Mrs. Weber died in 1960.

Mr. Weber was a resident of this area all his life. He served as county clerk from 1945 to 1959. He was also a retired farmer.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Patmos Masonic Lodge No. 97, Methodist Men's club, and Baraca Sunday School class. He had served as financial chairman of the church and was a member of the church's board of trustees.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Milo (Ruthetta) West, 301 North High, and Mrs. Bob (Jane) Dukes, Whittier, Calif.; one son, Harry C. Eunice, New Mexico, 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist church. Donations may be made to the church.

Services Held for Mrs. Bert Weber

Funeral services were held in the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Bert C. Weber who died here Sunday following a long illness.

Rev. Joe Riley, Burns, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated, "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross", were sung by Mrs. Fred W. Burr, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. W. C. Butterworth.

Casket bearers were John L. Sullivan, Harry W. Smith, Roy Nace, T. Edd Smith, Paul V. Batholow, Virgil K. Godding. Ushers were J. Dorr Smith and Frank W. Biglow.

Members of the American Legion Auxiliary and past presidents, Circle 2 of the Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, Midian Home Demonstration Unit, Beauceants and employees of Lewis and West Construction Company were the attending groups.

Interment was in Belle Vista Cemetery.

Mrs. Bert Weber Dies; Services to Be Held Thursday

Mrs. Bert C. Weber, 74, 424 South Star, died here Sunday afternoon after a long illness.

Mrs. Weber was born Aug. 16, 1886 on a farm south of Rosalia. She had lived in this area all her life, except for a short time spent in Wichita, Douglass and Corwin.

Mrs. Weber was a member of the First Methodist Church and taught the Philathea Sunday School class for more than 10 years. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, Beauceants, Midian H.D.U. and president of the Methodist Church circle two.

She married Bert C. Weber Aug. 1, 1909 at El Dorado.

Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Ruthetta West, 301 North High; Mrs. Jane Dukes, Whittier, Calif.; one son, Harry C. Eunice, N. Mex.; a son-in-law, Leland Newton, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Creel, Murrietta, Calif.; and Mrs. Harry I. Smith, Manitou Springs, Colo.; three brothers, Thomas A. Foster, 507 North Topeka, Eugene Foster, Manson, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Irby J. Wedel, 92, of Canton, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at the Shiloh Manor Nursing Home. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 17 at the First Baptist Church in Canton. Pastor Chuck Priddy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Canton Township Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Olson's Mortuary in Canton.

Survivors include: sons, Charles Wedel of Galva, Dennis Wedel of Canton and Dale Wedel of McPherson; daughters, Rita Ek of Canton, Debra Heitzenrater of Towanda and Karla Jones of Canton; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Clarence, Lincoln, Orlan, Menno and Clidy Wedel; and four sisters, Verna Koehn, Susie Ratzlaff, Melinda Koehn and Slyvia Boese.

Brother of Leslie Wedel Passes June 12 at 61

Leslie Wedel's brother, John Wedel at Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Friday noon after a short illness.

He was the firs tof twelve children to pass on and the fourth youngest. He had worked at the Moundridge mill for 36 years.

His funeral services were held at the West Zion Mennonite church at Moundridge June 15 at 10:00 o'clock, with the Rev. E. R. Stucky in charge. Interment West Zion Church Cemetery. (El Dorado Times, June 18, 1964)

WEDEL, LESLIE ALFORD

Leslie Alford Wedel, 80, of Augusta, retired aircraft worker and farmer, died Monday, Nov. 19, 1990. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Dunsford Funeral Home.

Survivors include: wife, Alice; sons, Jerry Leslie of Detroit, Phillip K. of El Dorado, daughter, Phyllis K. Gillum of El Dorado; sisters, Katie Coehn of Colorado, Pauline Woodall of Washington; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. (El Dorado Times, November 21, 1990)

WEDEL, MARTIN P.

Martin P. Wedel, 88, of Goessel, retired farmer and house mover and father of Donald Wedel of Whitewater, died Thursday. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Goessel Mennonite Church.

Other survivors include his wife, Linda; sons, Harold of Lenexa, Arnold of Mulvane, Gilbert of Canton, Robert of Lyons and Rodney of Newton; daughters, Goldie McMurray of Canton and Irene Wiebe of Houston; siser, Ruth Dalke of Goessel and 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Memorial has been established with Bethesda Home in Goessel.

WEDEL, OLLIE LEE

Ollie Lee Wedel, 55, of Augusta, laborer, died Friday. Services 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Wesleyen Church in Augusta.

Survivors include five sons, Dan, Dennis, and Duane all of Augusta, Dick of Hutchinson, Daryl of Cassville, Mo.; daughter, Donna Peterson of Augusta; brothers, Floyd of Towanda, Lavern of Wichita, Jack of Moundridge; nine grandchildren.

WEGE, ALFRED ALVEN

El Doradoan's Body Found in Garage

Police were investigating the death of 57- year old El Dorado man, Alfred Alven Wege, 1115 West Locust whose body was found at approximately 1 p.m. today at a local automobile garage where he was employed.

Employees of the Angelton Klinkle Garage, 347 North Main, told Department of Public Safety Police that they returned after their lunch hour and one of them found Wege lying on the floor in a corner. The body was near an air compressor and welding apparatus.

The new coroner, Dr. Leonard L. Sullivan, responded to the scene and reportedly will call an inquest. Relatives told police that Wege had not been feeling well.

Emloyees told police that Wege was the only person in the garage during the noon hour. They said Wege always remained at the garage from noon to 1 p.m. while the other employees went to lunch. (El Dorado Times, January 6, 1965)

Wege Serves will be Held Saturday

Funeral services for Alfred A. Wege, 57, 1115 West Locust who died suddenly Wednesday, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel.

The Rev. James F. Clark, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Westmoreland, Kan., cemetery with graveside rites scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The casket will not be opened at the services. Friends may call at the funeral home until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Mr. Wege came to El Dorado in 1946 after serving overseas with the United States Army for several years. He was employed by the Barker Brothers and in recent years was an employee of the Angleton Kunkle garage.

He was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was born Oct. 3, 1907 at Westmoreland. He and Beatrice Shaul were married Jan. 20, 1951, at St. Louis, Mo.

Survivors include the wife of the home, a step-daughter, Doris Mitchell Muscatine, Iowa; one step-son, Richard B. Shaul Brabil, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Glen Bair, Wamego, Kan.; Mrs. Harold Tilton, Topeka, and Mrs. Dale Garland, Grandview, Mo.; five brothers, Ed of McPherson, Herbert, 315 West Third, Paul, Westmoreland, and August and Calvin both of Keats, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence. (El Dorado Times, January 7,1965)

Funeral services for Alfred A. Wege, 57, of 1115 West Locust, who died here Wednesday,w ere conducted this morning at the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. James F. Clark, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church.

Fred Wolfe, Jr., accompanied at the organ by Mrs. L. W. Newcomer, sang "In the Garden", and "The Lord's Prayer". A cello solo, "Bachardioso," was played by Miss Ann Thomason.

Services as casket bearers were Kenneth A. Fisher, Stnaley Young, A.H. Deschliner, W. S. Kunkle, Clifford Angleton, and Clell M. Leonard.

WEGE, HERBERT A.

Herbert A. Wege, 61, 315 West Third, died this morning at St. Francis hospital, Wichita. He had been in failing health the past six years.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dietz Colonial Chapel. Interment will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Born at Onaga May 22, 1911, Mr. Wege came to El Dorado 30 years ago from Westmoreland. He was retired because of disability in 1968 from Skelly Oil Company where he served as a transport driver.

He was married to Agnes N. Aubert April 29, 1935 at Kansas City, Mo.

He was a member of and had been active in the Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Local 5-241.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes of the home; two sons, Lynn Edward Wege, 410 North Washington and Herbert A. Wege, Jr. of Wichita four daughters, Mrs. Ray Boese, Wichita, Mrs. Jack Soden, 1753 West Third, Mrs. Ida Shadoin, Corvallis, Oregon and Mrs. Ernest Smith, Susanville, California; four brothers, Ed Wege, McPherson, Paul Wege, Westmoreland, and Calvin Wege and August Wege both of Manhattan two sisters, Mrs. Ida Garland, Grandview, Mo. and Mrs. Bernice Tilton, Topeka and 22 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents two brothers and one sister.
