MCCALEB, LORENE

Lorene McCaleb, 80, of Wichita, died Tuesday evening, April 12, 1994, at her home. Memorial services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Private burial services for the family will be held in Holderman Cemetery before the memorial services.

She was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Potwin, the daughter of Clarence and Lida (Edwards) Watson. She graduated from Potwin High School and attended Butler County Community College. In 1946, she and George McCaleb were married. He died in 1984. She lived in Butler and Sedgwick Counties all her life and was a member of the East Heights Methodist Church, Geologists Wives, and Rotary Anns.

Survivors include: son, Jerry Peterson of Potwin, daughter, Pam Spines of Wichita; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

MCCARTY, HANNAH D.

Hannah D. McCarty, 101, of Potwin, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 1994. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Potwin Christian Church with Rev. Rick McNary officiating. Burial will be in the McGill Cemetery.

She was born June 23, 1893, in Ohiowa, NE, the daughter of Gottlieb and Ida (Schielke) Weber. On Oct. 14, 1915, she and Moris McCarty were married in Potwin. He died Feb. 26, 1984. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: son, Walter of Wichita, daughter, Donna Chance of Enid, Okla., brother, Fred Weber of Potwin, sister, Tena Gaines of Peabody; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.

MCCLINTOCK, HARRY L.

Harry L. McClintock, 78, of El Dorado, died Sunday, June 12, 1994, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kirby Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Towanda cemetery. Rev. Dick Sipe, will officiate the services.

He was born Oct. 27, 1915, in Seward, the son of George Washington and Gertrude (Hill) McClinktock and lived in El Dorado most of his life. On March 22, 1935, he and Ruby Follis were married in Marion. He was employed by Local 171 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union out of Wichita, retiring in 1977. He attended the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: wife, Ruby, sons, Harry Jr., of Wichita, William of El Dorado, daughter, Shirlene Wentworth of El Dorado, brothers John of Harlingen, Texas, Earl, Orville, both of Wichita, Richard of Tulsa, Okla., 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.

MCCLURE, ARTHUR J.

Arthur J. McClure, of Douglass, retired Boeing Wichita employee and farmer, died Saturday, April 16, 1994. Rosary is 7 p.m. today and services are 11 a.m. Tuesday both at St. James Catholic Church.

Survivors include: wife, Irene, sons, William of Leon, James of Douglass, Ken, Christian both of Augusta, daughters, Debbie Vittitow of Augusta, Cindy Sheets of Douglass, Katy Price of Atlanta, Kan., Sheryl Frakes of Rock, 19 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchilren.

MCCORMICK, BESS F.

Bess F. McCormick, 103, of El Dorado, died Friday afternoon, June 3, 1994, at Susan B. Allen Hospital. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Belle Vista Cemetery

She was born Nov. 19, 1890, near Potwin, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Jane Bailey Jarnagin, and lived all her life in Butler County. She attended Sterling College and Emporia State. She was a homemaker and had taught school near Murdock, Rose Hill and Prospect. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

On Nov. 9, 1916, she and James McCormick were married in El Dorado. He died in Jan. 25, 1978.

Survivors include: daughter, Virginia Bennett of El Dorado; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles, an infant daughter, two brothers and five sisters.

MCCULLY, AGNES CHAMBERS

Agnes Chambers McCully, 84, of Bonita Springs, Fla., formerly of El Dorado, died Sunday, April 24, 1994, in Naples, Fla. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 23, 1910, in Robinson, Ill., the daughter of Arthur and Grace Smith Chambers. She graduated from Eureka High School and served as U.S. Navy Wave in San Diego during WWII. She and Don F. McCully were marred Oct. 9, 1938 and she had lived in Florida for the past 13 years.

Survivors include: husband, Don, sister, Dorothy Rice of El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.

MCDANIEL, ILA BUTTS

Ila McDaniel, 84, of Modesto, Calif., died Friday, Sept. 16, 1994. Services will be held there next week.

She was born Sept. 25, 1909 in Keighley, the daughter of Welby M. and Bernice Blankenbaker Butts. She was an elementary school teacher and taught in Leon, Mulvane and in California. She married Raye McDaniel, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include: son, Gary of Modesto, Calif., sister, Leatha Rettig of Wichita, four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Glenn, Melvin and James. (El Dorado Times, Sept. 17, 1994)

MCLINDEN, ED W.

Ed W. McLinden, 71, of El Dorado, died Sunday afternoon, June 5, 1994 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. tonight at St. John’s Catholic Church and services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Strong City.

He was born May 5, 1923, in Cedar Point, the son of John J. and Katharine (Flueler) McLinden and graduated in 1940 from Cedar Point High School. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army Cavalry as a Technical Sergeant in the Phillipines.

On Sept. 28, 1949, he and Norma Wiebrecht were married in Strong City. He moved to El Dorado in 1955 from Strong City. He was a retired pipe fitter for Skelly and Getty refineries and his memberships included St. John’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, V. F. W., Amvets and O.C. A. W. union.

Survivors include: wife, Norma, son, Brad of El Dorado, daughter, Kathleen Messman of Houston, Texas, brothers, Bud of Marion, John of Colby, sister, Lucile McLinden of Denver, Colo., three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Bryan.

Memorials are to the Kansas Arthritis Foundation and St. John’s Catholic Church. Kirby Morris Funeral Home has the arrangements. (El Dorado Times, June 6, 1994)

PHELPS, ELIZABETH T.

Elizabeth “Betsy” T. (Slade) Phelps, 77, Rochester, N.Y., mother and mother-in-law of William and Sharon Slade of Augusta, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer and diabetes, on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, surrounded by her loving children and beloved dog, Cookie.

In accordance to Mrs. Phelps’ wishes, there will be no service or interment. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home in Rochester.

Other survivors include children: Amy (John) Herbert) and Judy Gardner, step children, David (Kathy) Phelps and Norman Phelps, six grandchildren, four step grandchildren, sister in law, Sue (Marty) Suter, nephew, Tom Suter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine and Carl Traver, husbands, William Slade and William Phelps, nephew, Andy Suter.
