Rev. Burl Allison, Jr., 96, long-time Augusta resident and local historican, author of "Augusta, Kansas 1868-1990," passed from this life on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Augusta First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Burl, the eldest of seven boys, was born to Burl, Sr. and Perna (Diebold) Allison on March 25, 1911 at Christy Township, Ill. The family moved to Augusta in the spring of 1922. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1929 and attended Butler County Junior College.
On Dec. 20, 1934 he married Lois Schulz at the Methodist parsonage in Augusta. To this union three children were born; Stephen, George Michael, and Susan.
Burl owned and operated Allison's Barber Shop for many years until his retirement. He took on a second career as a Methodist minister and served in the Rosalia and Potwin Methodist Churches, as well as visitation pastor for the Augusta Methodist Church. He was very active in the Augusta community, serving on the City Council, the School Board, Chamber of Commerce, Augusta Arts Council, Augusta Historical Society, Augusta Housing Authority, and Kansas Council on Aging. With help from his wife, Lois, the local Meals-On-Wheels was reorganized and both were instrumental in forming the Augusta Community Caring Center.
Burl is survived by his children; Stephen Allison and wife, Sue of Wichita, Dr. Mike Allison and wife, Sally of Great Bend, and Susan Lytton and husband, Bob of Augusta; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Lois; his parents; his brothers, David Allison, John Hugh Allison, Cloyd Max Allison, Edgar Allison, Russell Allison, Dale Clifford Allison; and grandson, Chris Allison.

Dale W. Anderson, M.D., 77, of Augusta, went home to be with the Lord after fighting pancreatic cancer, Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 at LakePoint Nursing Center.
Viewing 1 to 5 p.m. today and 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.
Service will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007 at the First Christian Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Dale was born in El Dorado on June 22, 1930, the son of William and Lillian (Spain) Anderson. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1948, graduated Butler County Community College in 1950 and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1955. He served his residency in Phoenix, Ariz. from 1955-1956 and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1958. Dr. Anderson opened Augusta Family Practice in 1958 and retired in 1997. On Oct. 8, 1982 he married Dawn (Pennington-Mitchell) in Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son Cameron Mitchell and wife Karen of Augusta; daughters, Jody Anderson of Wichita, Sherry Ann Morris and husband Roger of Haysville, Lisa Jaqua and husband Gary, Marianne Morrow and husband Chris, Michelle Madison and husband Wayne Jr., Renae Anderson and husband Terry, all of Wichita, Sheree Dawn Preston and husband Lance of Cedar Hill, Texas, Karrie Lockamy and husband Kyle, Jyneen Martin and husband Mike, Jynette Baxter and husband David, all of Augusta. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally and a son, Paul.

L. Inez Bing, 96, Augusta, formerly of rural Latham, died on Friday, Sept. 14, at Lakepoint in Augusta.
Visitation with family will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19; service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, both at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Interment will follow in Latham Cemetery.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1910, in rural Latham, two miles south of Keighley, the daughter of James and Effie (Hardy) Eastin. On April 29, 1930, Inex and Clyde Herbert Bing were united in marriage in El Dorado. They lived on a farm near Latham from 1949 until moving to Augusta in 1992. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb 9, 1994.
Survivors include: son, Duane (Martha) Bing of Enterprise; daughter, Joan (Henry) Price of Beeville, Texas; daughter-in-law, Judy Bing of Latham; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Don; four brothers and seven sisters.

Cliff William "Bill" Cooley, 80, Douglass, retired farmer and rancher, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2007.

He was born to Frank and Lucy Henshaw Cooley on Nov. 27, 1926. Bill married Norma Wolf in 1947.
Bill served in the U.S. Army. After the Army he started farming with his father and brother. Bill retired from farming in 2000 when his brother passed away.
He is survived by his wife and their three daughters, Connie (Martin) Little, Cris (Jim) Wesbrooks, and Jenny Cooley-Hicks, all of Augusta, seven grandchildren, Curt Mitchell, Mickey (Jocelyn) Mitchell, Chad (Katie) Wesbrooks, Eric (Jennifer) Wesbrooks, all of Augusta, Ty Little, Wichita, Megan Little, Kansas City, Chad Little, St. Louis, Mo.; 12 great-grandchildren.

Mildred I. "Millie" Link, 84, Augusta, retired bookkeeping supervisor at the Wichita Eagle, formerly with Haysville State Bank, and avid square dancer, passed away and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, Aug. 27, 2007.
Visitation with family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening; funeral service is 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, both at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita.

Harold Eugene "Gene" Maxwell, Douglass, 88, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Cumbernauld Village, Winfield.
A graveside service was held this morning at the Douglass Cemetery.
Gene was born in the family farmhouse, one mile north of Rock on Oct. 17, 1918, the son of George Calvin and Jenny McCoy Maxwell.
He attended Rock Elementary and Douglass High School, graduating in 1936. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in May 1942 from Southwestern College. Gene and Frances Warner eloped and were married by a Justice of the Peace in Winfield, on April 25, 1942. They began their marriage on the Maxwell family farm. On May 20, 1943, their son Jim was born. And on Feb. 5, 1946, their daughter Sharon was born. Gene and Frances lived on the farm from 1942 until 2001 when they moved to Douglass. Gene tended the farm and founded the Gene Maxwell Insurance Agency. He took great pride in providing personal attention to his customers. He always hand delivered policies. In 1976 Gene had a mild stroke which affected his ability to speak. Frances completed her insurance license to help Gene with the Agency. In the late 1990's they sold the Agency and prepared for retirement. Gene was a member of the First Christian Church, Douglass, since 1949. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Blue Lodge and the Elks Lodge in Augusta. He was active in the Association of Independent Insurance Agents and the Douglass Chamber of Commerce. Gene enjoyed reading, playing golf and traveling to visit his children, close friends and relatives.
He is survived by: his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sally Maxwell of Sisters, Ore.; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and David George of Vienna, Va.; his granddaughters, Kristin and Nathan Pung and Jennifer Maxwell and husband Ken Spruell, all of Houston, Texas; his great-granddaughter, Addison Louise Pung.
He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, three sisters and his wife. He was the last of his generation.
Gene was a devoted businessman, husband, father, grandfather and supporter of the community. We all benefited by our association with him.

Patricia A. "Pat" Ingram, 64, Augusta, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.
Pat was born in Laurel, Neb. on April 28, 1943, the daughter of John and Leonarda (Dendinger) Rasmussen. She was currently working for Century 21 Advantage Realty as a residential real estate agent. On June 22, 1976 she married Billy Ingram in Las Vegas, Nev. He survives.
Other survivors include a sister, Monica Young and husband Jim of Sioux City, Iowa; nephews, Jonathan and Eric Young, and a niece, Jaime Young.

Myrna "June" (Area) Chilson Mitchell, 85, Leon, homemaker, military wife (26 years) and mother, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007.

June was born June 11, 1922 in Wamego, Kansas to Edgar and Cecilia (Lintz) Area. She married Truman Chilson, Nov. 16, 1941. He preceded her in death after 55 years of marriage. She married Loyd Mitchell on Sept. 28, 2002 and he preceded her Sept. 8, 2007.

Oren W. Nichols (a.k.a. Watermelon Man) of Augusta, went to Heaven on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at the age of 82.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1925, in Howe, Okla. Oren was blessed in finding and marrying Bessie Williams on April 23, 1955, and had five children. He worked for Beech Aircraft Company (1953-1989) 38 years, but has been happily retired for 18 years. Aside from selling watermelons, Oren loved to go fishing. He loved his family, friends, and above all, he loved the Lord.

Bettie was born in Mountain View, Okla. on Oct. 29, 1924, the daughter of John and Hulda (Buerki) Stuckey. She worked at Boeing during W.W. II and for Dr. Glen Hoskinson's veterinary clinic later on in life. On June 21, 1969 she married Albert Slade.
She is survived by: husband, Al Slade; son, Henry Duvanel and wife Ronda of Shawnee; daughter, Judy Wilcox and husband Paul of Augusta; step-son, Robert Slade and wife Andi of Rifle, Colo.; step-daughters, Martha Holmes and husband James of Endicott, NY; and Lynn Anderson of Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren and spouses, Neil and Sheila Wilcox; Ryan and Mandy Wilcox; Bret and Andrea Wilcox; Troy and Vanessa Duvanel; Nicole and Shawn Keech; step-grandchildren and spouses, David and Judith Slade, Kyle Slade; Lori and Bob Gavernick and Shawne and Tim Barrett; eight great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

Opal Fay Clark, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1991, at Knutson Manor Nursing Home. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church in Warrensburg, Mo., with burial following in the Knob Noster, Mo., cemetery. Brother Bernie Skoch will officiate the services.
She was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Knob Noster, Mo., to Everett E. and Stella Judd Adams. She worked for 39 years in civil service and was a member of the Civarettes and the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church.
On Feb. 5, 1944, she and David Clark were married in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1976.

She was born Feb. 19, 1908, in Cedar Point, to John Lewis Carpenter and Florence Pearl Taylor.
In 1926, she and Leslie Edward Clark were married in Florence. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.

Clara M. Cline, 78, of Atlanta, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 14, 1992, at Wm. Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield with burial following in Timber Creek Cemetery, east of Atlanta.
She was born July 8, 1914, on a farm near Cabool, Mo., to George and Jennie Stickel Parker and attended school at Timber Creek and Grand Center schools. During the early 1930s she worked in several restaurants in Arkansas City.
On March 23, 1936, she and Orie S. "Bill" Cline were married in Winfield and they lived in Douglass and Atlanta. She worked for several years before and after WW II at Beech Aircraft Co. The couple operated a cattle ranch near Moline for 10 years and moved to Atlanta in 1965. She retired in 1987 and 23 years as a dietary cook for USD 462. Memberships included Atlanta Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Burden Senior Citizens and the Timber Creek Friends.
Survivors include: husband, Bill; son, Wayne King of El Dorado; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
