Maxey, Maggie M. "Sally," 97, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002. Service 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Eastern Star

Mrs. Maxey was born Sept. 6, 1904 in Towanda, to the late Henry and Eva Stark. She attended school in Linn County,
Kan. and in 1921 married Roy Bosserman, with whom she had four children.
In 1942, she married Asa Maxey and with that union they had one son.
Her talents and interests included homemaking, owning and operating small businesses, wiring Boeing B-17's and
B-52's, hunting, fishing, doing home repair and writing stories. She enjoyed her family and always took pride in
her personal appearance even during her 30-year illness. In 1971, Myasthenia Gravis began to claim her ability
to walk and speak. It led to her almost 30-year residency at Kansas Masonic Home, where she died.
She was a longtime member of Broadway Christian Church and of Constellation Chapter No. 476 of Eastern Star, Wichita.
Preceded in death by two husbands; two children; four brothers and three sisters.

Morris, Thomas Ray, 65, died Monday, April 2, 2001. Service 10 a.m. Friday, Kechi United Methodist Church.
Mr. Morris was born Jan. 31, 1936 to Elbert "Ebb" and Bessie "Jackie" Morris on the family
farm near Bennington, Okla.
He attended Bethel grade school near Bennington, Centennial grade school near Potwin and Potwin grade school and
high school. He studied accounting at Wichita Business College, insurance adjusting at the Universal Insurance
School, Miami, Fla. and insurance law at Kansas Newman College.
Mr. Morris joined the National Guard in 1953 and went on active duty with the Army in January of 1955 and transferred
to the Army Reserves in January of 1957, where he served for eight and a half years.
He married Florence Hess on July 19, 1957.
Mr. Morris retired from Freuhauf Trailer in 1988 after 31 years. He owned and operated Morris Claims Service, working
part time from 1975-1988, then full time until 2000. He purchased, rebuilt and sold wrecked vehicles and airplanes
part time from 1962-1975. He flew airplanes as a hobby and for charters and operated an airplane rental service
from 1962-1976. He retired from flying after having a heart attack on June 30, 1999. He also raced automobiles
from 1954-1962, retiring in the sprint midget division of the IMCA.
Preceded in death by his father and sister, Dorothy Morris.

LINDSBORG - Charles Edward Vachal, 95, died Feb. 17, 2006, at Lindsborg Community Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1910, in Benton, the son of James and Mary Pochop Vachal. He graduated from Benton High School,
and Wichita State University. A resident of Lindsborg, he was a teacher, school administrator, coach and farmer.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 172, McPherson Retired Teacher Association, all
in McPherson, and the Kansas Retired Teachers Association.
On Aug. 29, 1937, he married Helen A. E. Johnson in Lindsborg. She died Dec. 10, 1985.
Survivors include: a son, Charles, Lindsborg; a daughter, Annamarie Brancaccio, Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Barney, Vlad and James Vachal; and two sisters, Mary Vachal Anderson
and Lillian Vachal Mercer.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Benton Cemetery, with the Rev. Harold Nelson presiding. Visitation
will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be sent to Meals on Wheels or Hospice Care of Kansas, both in care of the funeral home. (Wichita

Vachal, Helen Lange, 91, of Garden City, formerly of Wichita, died Monday, June 25, 2001. Graveside service
11 a.m. Thursday, Benton (Kan.) Cemetery, with Rev. Scott Martin officiating.
Mrs. Vachal was born Oct. 14, 1909 in Exeter, Neb., to the late Frederick and Eva Catharina (Bruntz) Lange. In
her early childhood, her family moved to a farm in Sumner County, Kan. and later to Arkansas City, where she graduated
from high school in 1927. She was a speed typist and was employed in Arkansas City at the Gould Insurance Agency
as a secretary.
On Aug. 1, 1937, she married James H. Vachal of Wichita. Following her marriage, she moved to Wichita and devoted
her time to homemaking. She became known for her cooking skills. She was a longtime active member of the First
Salem United Church of Christ, Wichita. Following the death of her husband of 51 years in 1988, her health declined.
Mrs. Vachal moved to Garden City in 1994, to be near her only child.
Preceded in death by one infant brother.
