MRS. MANNION IS DEAD AT WICHITA
Another Pioneer Passes on to the Great Beyond – Funeral Will Be Held Here Saturday.

Resided in Augusta since 1867.

Three Sons Now Live in Augusta – Body Brought Augusta Today for Burial.

MRS. MARGARET MANNION, aged 85, another of the pioneers of Augusta and Butler County, is dead. She passed away at her home, on North Washington, in Wichita yesterday, after a week’s illness.

Mrs. Mannion had resided in Kansas since 1867, living first on a farm northeast of the city. She moved to Wichita some time ago.

Surviving are eight children, J.J. Mannion, J.C. Mannion, W.H. Mannion, of Augusta; Mrs. Kate M. Shea, of Wichita; Mrs. Mary Lipscomb, of Wichita; Mrs. L.H. Armstrong, of Wichita; Mrs. Maggie Cody, of Haverhill, and T.P. Mannion, of El Dorado.

The body was to have been brought to Augusta today, and the funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock, in charge of Father James Hayden.

ARTHUR J. McCLURE, 73, Douglass, died Saturday, April 16, at Veterans Hospital in Wichita.

There will be a rosary tonight at 7 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta. His service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. James S. Mainzer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, rural Augusta.

He was born on April 21, 1930 as the son of John A. McClure and Rose Patry McClure. He married Irene Ann Nuessen on Aug. 12, 1946 in Olpe. The retired Boeing Aircraft worker and farmer was a member of 5328 Knights of Columbus, Douglass American Legion 202, Bishop Mark Carroll, 4th Degree.

He is survived by: wife, Irene; four sons, William J. of Leon; James H. of Douglass, Ken A., Christian J., both of Augusta; four daughters Deboe Vittitow, Augusta; Katy Price, Atlanta; Cindy Sheets, Douglass; Sheryl Frakes, Rock; brother, Albert F., Augusta, 19 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Marian M. McClure.
A memorial has been established with the Knights of Columbus Building Fund.
Hillside Funeral Home, Augusta is in charge of the services.

McCLURE, IRENE A.

I WOMAN KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT AT HOME
A vehicular accident on her own property took the life of a rural Augusta woman late last night.
Irene A McClure, 78, 16615 SW Boyer Road, died as a result of injuries suffered when her Mercury Sable automobile slammed into the side of an out-building at her residence. Sheriff’s officers responded to a 911 call from the area around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral arrangements for Mrs. McClure were pending this morning at the Hillside Funeral Home of Augusta. The injured woman was flown to a Wichita hospital by Lifewatch helicopter after being extricated from the car.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. tonight and service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, both at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Father James Mainzer will officiate. She was a former Ballinger Catering employee. She was born Oct. 28, 1919 in Olpe to Henry and Agnes (Miller) Nuessen. She married Arthur J. McClure, Aug. 12, 1946 in Olpe. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1994.

Survivors include sons, Jim, Ken McClure, both of Douglass, Chris of Augusta, Bill McClure of Leon; daughters, Debbie Vittitow of Augusta, Katy Price of Atlanta, Cindy Sheets, Sheryl Frakes, both of Douglass, brothers, Clarence Nuessen, Leonard Nuessen, both of Wichita; sisters, Leona Bauer, Fermina Liggett, both of Wichita, Bernadine Kehres of Olpe, Maryann Coffman of Emporia; 22 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

MRS. WILLIAM MIERS Died: - At the home of Mrs. John Hoffman in Augusta, Sunday, August 11, 1907, of blood poisoning, Mrs. William Miers. The funeral was held from the Catholic church, the following day, and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery, northeast of Augusta.
Mr. and Mrs. Miers had planned to make a trip to Oklahoma with Mr. and Mrs. Charley Lehr. Everything being prepared, Mrs. Miers came to Augusta to spend a day with Mrs. Hoffman when she was taken sick. All was done for her that could be but on the fourth day she died. She was the eldest daughter of Dr. Warrender of this city.

DONALD B. RAITT, 84, of Rose Hill, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998.
His service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Hillside Funeral Home Augusta. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, rural Augusta.
He was a retired Boeing Wichita supervisor.
He was born June 14, 1913 to Colin Dorwood and Effie (Barlean) Raitt in Plankington, S.D.
He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946.
He married Martha Katz in Wichita in 1943. She survives.
Survivors include son, James of Rose Hill; daughters, Judith Johnson, Jeanette Power, Jeanne Raitt Pulec, all of Rose Hill, Jill Stach of Raymore, Mo.; 11 grandchildren.
Memorial has been established with the Kansas Humane Society.

MRS. ELLA RALSTON DIED AT WICHITA EARLY TODAY
MRS. ELLA SCHNEIDER RALSTON, 41, El Dorado, died early this morning in the St. Francis hospital at Wichita after a serious illness of four weeks. She was well known in Augusta having lived in the Pleasant Ridge district for a number of years. The Ralston’s moved to El Dorado 10 years ago.

Mrs. Ralston is survived by her husband, Ray Ralston, six children, Richard, Lyle, Warren, Catherine, Virginia and Helen. Also her father, George Schneider, El Dorado; a sister, Mrs. Mamie McKinney, El Dorado, and a brother, Andrew Schneider, who lives east of Augusta. Funeral arrangements were not completed today as plans awaited word from the son, Dick, who is in the U.S. Navy stationed in the Pacific. He was to harrive arrived in California today from Hawaii.

MRS. ANNA REDINGTON DIES THIS MORNING
MRS. ANNA REDINGTON, 66, a resident of Butler county for nearly 60 years, died in the St. Francis hospital in Wichita at 7:45 o’clock this morning after a 10-week stay in the hospital. Her birth occurred in Franklin, Pa., the daughter of John and Ellen Culhane. She came to Butler county with her parents when a small girl.

Her marriage to Thomas G. Redington occurred June 2, 1909 at Augusta. The surviving children are Helen and Owen of the home. A brother, Joe Culhane of Benton, survives as does a sisgter, Mrs. Stephen Lehr of Augusta. Mr. Redington’s death occurred on August 5, 1939.
She was a member of the St. James Catholic church. Services will be conducted there on Monday morning at 9:30 o’clock, with Rev. J.M. Moeder in charge. Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.

THOMAS REDINGTON DIES AT HIS HOME EARLY TODAY
THOMAS GEORGE REDINGTON, 68, died at his home seven miles northwest of Augusta at 5 o’clock this morning following an illness of a day. He was born at Dublin, Ireland on January 29, 1871. He came to Butler county in 1888. He was married on June 2, 1909, to Hannah Culhane. He was a member of the Catholic church.

Surviving him are one daughter, Helen R. Redington, of Towanda; one son, Owen Redington, Towanda; one sister, Josephine Redington, Dublin, Ireland. Funeral services will be held at the St. James Catholic church with Rev. John Moeder in charge. The time and date was not known when The Gazette when to press today.

RIERSON, NELLIE

FORMER AUGUSTAN DIED AT WICHITA YESTERDAY
MRS. NELLIE RIERSON of Wichita died suddenly there yesterday afternoon, according to word received by relatives here today. She had been in apparently good health, having gone to the dentist’s office. She seated herself in the chair, and suddenly died. Heart failure is believed to have been the cause of her death.

She is survived by her husband and two children, ten and twelve years old. The family lived in the Augusta community until about four or five years ago, when they moved to Wichita, where Mr. Rierson is employed by the DeCoursey Milk company. While here they resided on a farm south of Augusta.

Mrs. Cash Rierson of near Augusta is a sister of Mrs. Nellie Rierson, and Earl Hughes of this community is a brother. She also leaves two brothers and three sisters in Wichita.
Many Augusta friends will remember the family as they were well known here.

AUGUSTA MAN DIED HERE
JOHN D. RYAN, aged 65 years, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Michael Gleason, 3003 East Second Street, yesterday morning. The cause of death was heart failure. John D. Ryan was an old timer at Augusta, having made that his home for the past forty years, where he had been in the stock business up until the past few years. Death was sudden and unexpected.
The deceased was a brother of Andy Ryan, of Augusta, and of Mrs. Gleason, at whose home he died. He had one other sister. He was born in Ireland, and came to America when very young.

Andrew Phillip Schneider, 66, died in Wesley Hospital Wichita, this morning.

Andrew Schneider was born July 7, 1890 at Augusta, the son of Katherine Hannon Schneider and George Schneider. He was married to Ella Frances Coday, September 22, 1915 at Augusta. She survives. The following children are survivors – Mrs. Dorothy Burress, Augusta, Frank and Loranzo Schneider, Augusta. A sister, Mrs. Otto McKinney, is a survivor also.
Mr. Schneider was engaged in farming during the active years of his life. He was a member of St. James Catholic church. He also had his membership in the B.P.O.E.

MRS. KATHERINE SCHNEIDER, wife of George Schneider of near Towanda, died yesterday at about 12:30 o’clock of heart trouble. Mrs. Schneider had been ill about four days.

Mr. Schneider was born in Buffalo, NY, on April 26, 1864. His marriage occurred on September 8, 1887. He had been ill two weeks. He had resided in Augusta 64 years and in El Dorado eight years. Mr. Schneider was a retired farmer.

NICHOLAS G. SIEBENALER,
64, Augusta, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, at HCA Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, with Father Michael Baldwin officiating. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Siebenaler was born Feb. 22, 1927, in Olpe to Barbara (Brown) and Jake Siebenaler.
On Jan. 12, 1952, he married Emma Jean Peacock in Eureka. She survives.
Siebenaler had been a Nabisco truck drive since 1952. He came to Augusta in 1961 and was a member of St. Vincent DePaul’s Catholic Church, Andover.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1948 during World War II and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Air Capitol 401, Winfield. He joined the Army after graduation.
Other survivors include a son, Paul Nicholas of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Carol Ann Krogman of Towanda; brothers, James of Olpe and Gerald of Emporia; and a grandson, Craig Krogman of Towanda.

TWO INFANT DEATHS OCCUR YESTERDAY
Two infant deaths occurred yesterday.
Ralph, Jr., nine months old son of Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Smith, 135 E. 12th Street, died in a hospital at El Dorado yesterday at noon. The death was caused by intestinal influenza.
The little boy is survived by his parents and two sisters. He was born in Augusta, Nov. 20, 1924.
The funeral will be held at the Catholic cemetery northeast of Augusta, the service of which will be in charge of the Reverend James Hayes of the local church.

She taught eight years at Towanda and in Palmasola, Venezuela. Survivors include her husband, John McDaniel, Augusta, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Malcom Ray, Augusta. He was born Aug. 17, 1924 in Burns to Serverinao and Angela Garcia Palacioz. He and the former Margaret Mary Alfaro were married in August of 1948. She survives.

Palacioz served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked in the Beech Aircraft shipping and receiving department before his death. In addition to his wife, he leaves four sons, Robert Lee and Richard Allen, both of Wichita, Reggie Andrew and Ronnie Edward, both of Newton; a daughter, Rita Angelita Marquez of Wichita; a brother, Felix of Lyons and two grandchildren.

RALPH PALACIOZ
, DROWNING VICTIM, RITES ARE HELD
The Liturgy of the Resurrection was celebrated Monday afternoon at the St. James Catholic Church for Ralph Anthony Palacioz, 17, who drowned in a farm pond southeast of here Saturday night. Father Thomas Reilly conducted the services. Interment was in Calvary cemetery in rural Augusta. The Palacioz youth drowned when a canoe he and two other Augustans were riding in collapsed. The other two swam to shore, it was reported. Department of Safety officials said the Palacioz youth was clothed at the time of the mishap and apparently had trouble swimming when his clothes became wet. Department officers said the canoe was constructed with a “joint” in the center so that it could be “folded up” for easier transportation out of the water. The canoe collapsed at the jointed section, officers noted. The incident was reported to the Department of Safety at 9:28 Saturday night, and the local rescue squad recovered the youth’s body shortly before midnight. Authorities indicated that a number of youths were at the pond at the time of the accident, possibly having a party.

Ralph Anthony Palacioz was born June 15, 1957 at Wichita, the son of Lee Castro and Margaret Mary Palacioz. He was a senior at the Augusta high school and a member of St. James Catholic church. He participated in track and cross country at the local high school. Survivors include his parents; four brothers, Robert Lee Palacioz of Topeka, Richard Allen and Ronnie Edward Palacioz of Marina Lakes, Ark., and Reggie Palacioz of the home; a sister, Rita Angelita Palacioz of Wichita; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Serviana Palacioz of Lyons and Mrs. Trinidad Alfaro of Augusta.

R.F. RALSTON, 86, El Dorado, died Saturday at his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. John’s Catholic Church in El Dorado. Rev. Father Leroy Linnebur will officiate and burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Augusta. A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. He was born Nov. 14, 1892 in Towanda to James and Ida Bennett Ralston. He married Ella Schneider in 1914. She died in 1936. He married Vivian Dustin Gaines in 1947. He was a foreman for Skelly Refinery until his retirement in 1958. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, B.P.O.Elks 1407 in El Dorado, the Golden Age Club, National Campers and Hikers, Sunchasers Retirees, Bluestem Campers and the Hilltop Golden Age club in Wichita.

He was married to Mary Jane Heuvelman at Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 8, 1952. He was a partner in the Schneider Bros., Grain Co., in Augusta and was a member of St. James Catholic church. There will be a public recitation of the prayers for the dead at 5 o’clock this afternoon and again at 7:30 this evening at St. James Catholic church where the body will lie after 4 o’clock this afternoon. There will be a concelebrated mass at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning at St. James Catholic church here with Bishop Mark K. Carroll of Wichita as the principal celebrant. Bishop Leo C. Byrne of Wichita will deliver the sermon. Co-celebrants at the mass will be Monsignor Arthur Tonne of Pilsen, Father J.P. Mannion of Moline, Father Gerald Pathe of Marion and Father Robert Kocour, acting pastor of St. James church here. Master of ceremonies will be Father William Carr of Wichita. Father Robert Murray of Wichita will be in charge of music. Burial will be in St. James cemetery here.

Father Shaughnessy, 51, was born in Quincy, Mass. and was ordained into the priesthood June 30, 1940. A year ago in June, a special mass in St. James church here marked the 25th anniversary of his ordination, and he was guest of honor at a banquet in honor of the occasion. Father Shaughnessy studied for the priesthood at Notre Dame University and in Rome, Italy. He was ordained at Oklahoma City and first served as a priest in San Antonio, Texas, and later at Oklahoma City. From 1944 until 1953 he served as chaplain in the Armed Forces. Father Shaughnessy was assistant pastor at Church of the Magdalen in Wichita; St. Joseph’s Catholic church at South Mound; and St. Ambrose Catholic church at Eric; and pastor at Holy Name Catholic church at Winfield, before coming to Augusta as pastor of St. James Catholic church. Father Shaughnessy’s survivors include a sister, Edna Gillespie of Cambridge, Mass.

On May 21, 1983, he and Christine Harper were wed in Overland Park. She survives. The Boeing machinist is also survived by son, Joseph, daughters, Mary, Betsy, Frances, all of the home; parents, Robert and Pearl Simison of Wichita; brother, Robert Simison of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sister, Debra Simison of Wichita, and aunt Joyce Powitsky of Houston, Texas. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as St. James Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial to the Harper-Simison children has been suggested. Those memorials may be left with the church of the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.

, 62, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born May 21, 1935 in Conway Springs as the son of Robert Simon and Isa Seiler Simon.
On April 21, 1956, he married Ann Watson. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Simon leaves sons, Eugene H. “Sonny” Simon II, his wife, Paula, and sons Chris and Colt of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Courtney of Wichita, Jeff Simon and hiw wife, Shelly, daughter Brooke and son Brice, all of Augusta; brothers, Cletus Simon of Syracuse, Dennis Simon of Dodge City, Kenneth of Douglass, Leroy Simon, Elmer Simon and Earl Simon, all of Augusta; sisters, JoAnn Heimerman of Wichita, Betty Carroll of Albany, Wis., Thelma Hoge, Doris Proctor and Mary Anderson, all of Augusta; five grandchildren, 84 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Scott, his parents and a sister, Ethel MacKay. Memorials to the St. James Catholic Church building fund have been suggested in lieu of flowers.

She survives. Mr. Taggart worked as a business representative for Machinist Union District 70. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Taggart leaves sons, Joseph John Taggart of the Republic of Georgia and George W. Taggart of Topeka; daughters, Sheila Taggart of Bend, Ore., Sandra Taggart, Rita A. Jack, Barbara Amaya, all of Wichita, Delores Batta of Leon; brothers, Donald Taggart of Norristown, Pa., Robert Taggart of Hanover, Pa., and William Taggart of Bridgeport, Pa., and 11 grandchildren. AUGUSTA WOMAN LEAVES ESTATE TO A NEW YORK BOYS’ HOME
MRS. BRIDGET TRACY, aged 84 years, died at her home southwest of Augusta Monday. By the will made by her and her husband, Thomas Tracy who died a number of years ago, the estate goes to the St. Joseph Union of New York City, a home for homeless boys.
Mrs. Tracy was from Ireland. Her funeral was held from the St. James church Wednesday morning. Father James Hayes in charge.
The estate is estimated at between five and six thousand dollars.

NARCISSA WARD, wife of J.F. Ward, died at her home north-east of town, July 23, at 7:20 p.m.
The funeral was held from the Catholic church, the service being conducted by Father Kealy.
Narcissa Timmons was born in Virginia, 72 years ago and was united in marriage to J.C. Ward 56 years ago. They came to Butler county in 1869 and had resided here since. The husband and six children, all grown, survive her. – Gazette.

WARNOCK, GERTRUDE V.

WARNOCK SERVICES NAMED SATURED
MRS. GERTRUDE V. WARNOCK, 72, died early this morning at the St. Francis hospital in Wichita after a 10-day illness. The illness started with a severe fall in her home in which she sustained a fractured hip. A few days after entering the hospital, she underwent an operation and this was followed by pneumonia.

Mrs. Warnock was born August 6, 1866, the daughter of Elizabeth and Daniel Moriarty, in Hornell, NY. She was married to James A. Warnock in Warren, Pa., in 1895. In addition to her husband, she is survived by these sisters and brothers, Edwin Moriarty, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Jim of Youngstown, Ohio; Willie of Pittsburgh, Pa.; John of Cisco, Tex.; Mrs. J.E. McClelland, Marionville, Pa.; Mrs. H.C. Leech, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Before moving to Butler county on November 11, 1918, Mrs. Warnock lived in Blue Creek, W. Va. She was a member of the Catholic church.
Funeral announcements will be made tomorrow by the Dunsford Funeral Home.

Mr. Warnock was married to Gertrude Moriarty in September, 1895 at Warren, Pa. Before coming to Butler county November 11, 1918, he lived in Blue Creek, W. Va. He was an employee of the Magnolia Oil company until retirement. His church membership was in St. James at Augusta.

DEATH CALLS MRS. AUER IN OKLAHOMA
Death came last night to
Mrs. Auer, widow of the late Thaddeus Auer, of Augusta, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. U.W. Stanley, of Granfield, Okla. Mrs. Auer had been sick but a short time.
For many years, the Auer family have been residents of Augusta and among this section’s most respected citizens. Since the death of her husband, a few months ago, Mrs. Auer has been living with her daughter in Oklahoma.
The body will be brought to Augusta tonight and taken to the home of Mrs. Walter Skaer, a granddaughter, 217 Broadway, where it will stay until 10 a.m. tomorrow, when the funeral will be held from the Catholic church.

MAKER CALLS T. AUER, GOOD AUGUSTA CITIZEN
THADDEUS AUER, aged 80, for the last 15 years a resident of Butler County, died at his home on State Street, after a lingering illness. Mr. Auer moved fifteen years ago to a farm east of Augusta from Missouri. He remained there for three years moving then to Augusta. His son lives on the place. Three boys, Jacob, living in Missouri, Will and one daughter, Mrs. Stanley, all of Augusta survive, with the widow. Mr. Auer was a strict Catholic and the funeral probably will be held on Friday, from the Catholic church. “Mr. Auer was the best neighbor I ever had,” was the tribute paid by John Riffe, who was a close friend of the deceased. “He was always upright, kind and honest.”

DEATH CALLS P. CULHANE OLD RESIDENT
The funeral of
Patrick Culhane, an old resident of Benton township, was held this morning from the Catholic church. Mr. Culhane was a native of Ireland. He lived for awhile in Pennsylvania, coming to Kansas in 1879. One week ago, Mr. Culhane suffered a stroke of paralysis and was taken to a hospital. He was unmarried and lived with his brother, Thomas Culhane, for years.

Died: - At her home near Towanda, Monday, August 4th, at 5 o’clock a.m., of Bright’s disease,
Mrs. Helen Culhane, wife of John Culhane. The funeral was conducted by Rev. James A. Kealy, of Wichita, in the Catholic church and interment was made in Catholic cemetery, northeast of town, Wednesday. She had been sick about six months and had had a stroke of paralysis last winter. She leaves a husband, three sons and two daughters.
Note: The Augusta Journal gives the name Helen Culhane and that she died on August 4. Her tombstone reads Ellen and says that she died on August 5.

THOMAS CULHANE, aged 80 years, died yesterday in a Wichita hospital of cancer. The body was brought here and burial was in the catholic cemetery. Rev. James Hayes conducted the funeral services. Mr. Culhane’s brother, Patrick, died here four months ago.

, 76, Augusta, homemaker, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000. Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at St. James Catholic Church. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m. tonight, Dec. 6 at St. James Catholic church. She was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Haag. She was married to Joseph Logan on Dec. 30, 1943 in Ogden, Utah.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph of Augusta; her three sons, Ron Logan of Emporia, Cy Logan of Olpe, and Joe Logan of Leavenworth, Wash.; her three daughters, Belinda Ball of Ottawa, Lee Anne Thompson of Shawnee, and Ruby Logan of Augusta; her four brothers, Leo Haag of Sitka, Ala., Virgil Haag of Kingston, Wash., Joe Haag of Farming, N.M., and Cy Haag, McCook, Neb.; her two sisters, Nellie Shay of Edmond, Wash., and Caroline Duron of Halstead; 23 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested. Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

Marie O. Lohf, 77, Augusta, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Wichita. Wake service is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, the Father James Billinger officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Lohf was born Nov. 26, 1913, in McPherson County to Sarah (Fast) and Jacob P. Androes. On Dec. 8, 1942, she married Harold A. Lohf in Kansas City, Mo. He survives. She moved to Butler County in 1978. Other survivors include sons Charles M. of Wichita, Gary A. of Salina, Edward & Eugene of Topeka; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold J., who died in April of 1990.

MIKE LULIC, AGE 62, DIES, RITES SATURDAY
MARK (MIKE) STEVE LULIC, age 62, who resided on Route 1, El Dorado, died yester in St. Francis hospital, Wichita. Born in Yugoslavia, Jan 24, 1900, he came to Butler county years ago and was engaged in farming. He leaves many, many friends in this area. A member of St. James Catholic church, Augusta, funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. James church with Father Cremin officiating. The Rosary will be held at 8 o’clock this evening in the Dunsford chapel. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Augusta. Mr. Lulic was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Elks lodge.

McKINNEY, DAVID O.

DAVID O. McKINNEY DIES IN COLORADO
DAVID OTTO McKINNEY, 70, former Towanda resident and employee of the El Dorado Refining Company for 26 years, died Monday in a Denver, Colo. Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. McKinney was born on Jan. 23, 1890, at Leon. He attended school at Fairview township. He moved to Towanda from Lincoln, Neb., in 1910. He married Mary Frances Schneider of Towanda at Augusta on Jan. 24, 1912. That same year he opened McKinney Livery Stables at Towanda which he owned and operated until 1916. He went to work for the El Dorado Refining company as rigger foreman in 1932 and was there until his retirement in 1958.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; four sons, Lawrence G., Dallas, Tex., David L., Denver; William S., Wichita, and James F., Denver; one daughter, Mrs.W.E. Moore, Jacksonville, N.C.; four brothers, Ben A., Benton, A.J., Towanda, R.T., El Dorado, R.C., El Monte, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Paul Graves, El Monte, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One son, Granville O., preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, at St. John’s church in El Dorado, Rev. Irvin J. Lampe, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Augusta. The Kirby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MANNION, JOHN J., SR.

JOHN J. MANNION, SR.
, died at his home near White Station Thursday morning, July 30, at 2 a.m. His last illness was of only ten days duration, and the cause of death was principally old age. He was over 86 years of age, and had always been of a robust constitution. The funeral services will be held at the Catholic church in Augusta at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 31st. Interment will be made in the Catholic cemetery, three miles northeast of Augusta.

The deceased was born March 17, 1822, in County Galway, Ireland, and came to America in 1847, living first in St. Louis, There he married Miss Margaret Gormley, Dec. 23d, 1856. They moved to Butler county in 1867, making entry on the old homestead where he has lived since. His wife, four sons, and four daughters survive him. The children are Katie Shea, Mary Lipscomb, Maggie Coday and Lizzie Armstrong; Thomas, John, Jr., James and William. One daughter, Ella, died several years ago.
Mr. Mannion was raised and lived the Catholic faith, was favorably known and highly respected, and the bereaved relatives have the sympathy of a host of friends, and the JOURNAL.

The funeral of
Mrs. J.J. Mannion was held at the Catholic church today. Rev. Father Hayes conducting the same. Business houses were closed during the services and the seating was not sufficient to hold those who wished to attend.

SARAH ANN PONCELOW, was born near Wentzeville, Missouri, Nov. 21, 1880. In March 1898, in company with her sister, Mrs. Dr. Hunnicutt, she came to Augusta. June 5, 1901, she was married to J.J. Mannion in Pueblo, Colorado. Mrs. Mannion died in her home in Augusta, Kansas, on Saturday morning, May 21, 1910, aged 29 years, 6 months. She received instructions in the Catholic faith through Rev. Leo M. Krenz, a Jesuit Father of St. Patrick Cathedral, at Pueblo, Colorado, and was baptized in May, 1901.

She is survived by her husband and four children, Harold, 8 years; Dorothy, 6 years; Margaret, 5 years, and Poncelow, 2 ½ years; by four sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Stapleford, Mrs. Hunnicutt, and Mrs. Williamson, of Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs. Daily, Binger, Okla.; W.H. Poncelow, Council Bluff, fa; Jas Poncelow, Riverside, Calif.; George Poncelow, Pueblo, Colo. Mrs. Mannion was the youngest of the family.

The funeral services were held in the Catholic church at 10 o’clock Monday and were conducted by Rev. Father Hayes. Business hours throughout the city were closed during the services and the capacity of the church was not sufficient to accommodate all who attended. A Choir from Wichita rendered music for the impressive Requiem Mass services.

Mrs. Mannion’s death was caused by pneumonia and her illness was of only a few days. In her untimely end the husband loses a devoted wife and the four motherless children the tender care and guidance of a mother. Mrs. Mannion was deservedly popular and respected by the citizens of Augusta for her noble traits of character and the sympathy of all are with the stricken family.
