Services were held Thursday at Douglass for Mrs. Rebecca Allifair Alley of Douglass whose death occurred there January 11. The Rev. E. L. Stumbo officiated and interment was in Dunlap Cemetery near Rose Hill.

Mrs. Alley who was born November 29, 1862 at Pikesville, Kentucky, had lived in the Douglass and Rose Hill communities since 1898. She was married in 1880 to James Alexander Alley who died in 1912. She was a member of the Douglass Church of Christ.

Surviving are three daughters and four sons, Mrs. Ethel Paul of Wichita; Mrs. Minnie Smith, Miss Lydia Alley and Claude and John Alley of Douglass; Dr. J. M. Alley, Augusta, and W. A. Alley of Derby.

Wiley Ash, Sr., 67, independent oil producer and entrepreneur and Payless Homes partner died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at his home in Haysville. Service 2 p.m. Saturday, Smith Mortuary, Derby. There will be no visitation and casket will be closed. Burial will follow in Dunlap Cemetery, Rose Hill.
Wiley was born July 10, 1935 to James Bert and Irlean (Newsom) Ash. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Teri Lynn Ash, brothers, J. B. Jr., David, Don, and Gene, identical twin brother Will; sisters, Margie Keneipp and Joyce Norris.

BULLINGTON, AMOS ETYSEL

Amos was born to Walter Scott Bullington and Crissie McCleary Bullington on a farm in Douglas County, MO, near Ava. His father died in about 1907 with TB, and Amos, his brother Bartley Pleasant, his sisters, Alta Mae and Fransina Lucretia were sent to an orphanage called, "The Orphanage of the House of God" in College Mound, Macon Co., MO, where they stayed for several years. Their mother re-married and took the children from the orphanage in 1913.

Amos lied about his age and his birthplace and joined the Canadian Army during WWI using his stepfather's last name, Anderson. Family stories say it was because he was under age and couldn't join the service in the states.

He married Jennie Marie Paden in 1919 and together they raised 7 of their 8 children to adulthood. Children are: Hazel Marie died in infancy, Robert Etysel, Arthur Earl, Lucy Irene, Cheryl Mae, Alta Joyce, Emma Lucretia and Bartley Leon.

He was a Master Carpenter and excellent Body and Fender man and Auto Painter. People used to come for miles around just to have him personally fix their vehicle.

Amos lived in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. He had to leave school at a young age, but was able to educate himself by reading and studying the Encyclopedia Brittanica and by various correspondence courses he took over the years. He died in 1970 of complications of colon cancer.

COLSON, LAWRENCE "LARRY" E.

Memorial services for Lawrence "Larry" E. Colson, 70, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City. Mr. Colson died Saturday at his home.

He was born June 18, 1935, at Kiowa, the son of William and Maude (Vannaman) Colson. He graduated from Kiowa High School in 1953. He received an Associates Degree from Pratt Junior College, Pratt, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from North Western University, Alva, Okla., in 1958.

He taught school in Selden for four years and Deerfield for six years before moving to Baldwin City in 1968 where he taught biological science for 18 years. He also coached basketball, football, track, tennis and golf.

He married Pamela Grimm Aug. 4, 1968, in Augusta. She survives of the home.

He attended the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City, was a former charter member of the Baldwin Lions Club and a former member of the Baldwin USD 348 Teachers Association. In February of 2005, he was inducted into the Kansas Coaches Tennis Hall of Fame and was instrumental in developing the BHS girls' tennis program.

Other survivors include a brother Donald Colson, Ponca City, Okla.; four sisters, Irene Frederick, Medicine Lodge, La Ferne Anderson, Kiowa, Laverne Lunsford, Medicine Lodge, and Mary Alice Gillum, Smolan, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Edward, Johnny and Ray Colson.

Burial will be at Dunlap Cemetery, Rose Hill. The family will receive friends before the service at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City. She was born May 11, 1897, in Gordon, to Charles Holcomb and Leona Haskin. On June 2, 1915, she and James A. Dennett were married in Wichita. She was a homemaker and a member of E.H.U. for 50 years.

She has been a member of the Church of Christ since 1948. She clerked for Walgreens, TG&Y and Fourth National Bank, flunky to assistant cashier in charge of bookkeeping at Rose Hill State Bank; bookkeeper and assistant cashier at First National Bank of Derby; bookkeeper for Jr. Achievem ent and volunteer for Literacy Volunteers. After retirement, she enjoyed keeping accounts for her son, Rick and grandson, Brent and for the Church of Christ in Rose Hill. She also spent many hours as the family historian. Her priorities were God, family and work - in that order. DUNLAP, DR. E. DALE

WESTWOOD - Dunlap, Dr. E. Dale, of Raymore, MO, formerly of Westwood, KS, died July 22. He was an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church and a retired member of the Kansas West Annual Conference. the memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29th at 1:30 p.m. at Old Mission United Methodist Church, Shawnee Mission Parkway and Mission Rd, Fairway, KS.

Born and raised in Rose Hill, KS, Dr. Dunlap received his A.B. Degree from Southwestern College, his B.D. from Garrett Biblical Institute and his Ph.D. from Yale. After serving on the faculty and as Academic Dean at Southwestern College in the 1950's, he was one of the founding faculty members of Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. From 1970 to his retirement in 1987, he served as Academic Dean. A well-known Wesleyan scholar, Dr. Dunlap was a leader in both the Kansas West Annual Conference and the general church. A member of two General Conferences and four Jurisdictional Conferences, he chaired the Ministry Study Commission of the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Committee to Study Baptism, writing the initial draft of what would become known as "By Water and the Spirit," the official United Methodist understa nding of baptism. He served on the Board of Higher Education and its Division of Ordained Ministry and the Council on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns. In his latter years, he was involved in advocacy for the rights of persons of same gender orientation.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances Whitehead, a daughter, Peg and husband, David Monical of Topeka, KS, sons, David and wife Michele of Vienna, VA, and Mark and wife, Lin, of Kansas City, MO and grandson, Kevin of Vienna.
