HEYMAN, RUTH L.

Ruth L. Heyman, 85, of Whitewater, died Sunday at Presbyterian Manor at Newton. Services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb Mortuary Chapel in Whitewater. Burial will be in Whitewater Cemetery.

She was born October 8, 1899 in rural Whitewater, the daughter of Benjamin and Minnie (Sohnray) Heyman. She was a retired school teacher of rural Leon schools. She lived most of her life in the Whitewater community.

HICKS, FREDA ELVA

Graveside services and burial for Freda Elva Hicks, 59, of 503 N. Gordy, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Benton Cemetery. She died Saturday, Feb. 9.

Rev. Letha Wood, pastor of the Living Water Chapel, officiated.

HUFFERD, WILLIAM. R. "BILL"

William R. (Bill) Hufferd, 58 of 416 N. Atchison, died Tuesday morning at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Graveside services and burial are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. Rev. L. Clinton Seybold of the Grace Methodist Church in Emporia will officiate.

Hufferd was born July 6, 1926 in Lyon County the son of Orville O. and Bessie (Lawson) Hufferd. On December 22, 1946 he was married to Pat Smales in Emporia. He had lived in El Dorado since 1961, coming here from Pittsburg. Hufferd was a longtime employee for Beech Aircraft company where he worked in the Salina division as a foreman. He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church in Emporia and a Navy Veteran of World War II.

Surviving family include his wife Pat, of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathy Hufferd of Broken Arrow, Okla; his parents, Orville O. Hufferd, Emporia, and Bessie Love, Cottonwood Falls; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Wayne Weber of Marion; one brother, Donald Hufferd of Mt. Vernon, Wash., one sister, Betty Lusk of Emporia and one granddaughter Elaine Hufferd of Broken Arrow, Okla.

Memorials have been established in Hufferd's name with the Bradford Memorial Library and the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Library. Contributions may be sent to the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements. (El Dorado Times, January 2, 1985)

Graveside services and burial for William R. "Bill" Hufferd, 58, of 416 N. Emporia were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. He died Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Rev. L. Clinton Seybold of the Grace Methodist Church of Emporia officiated. Casket bearers were Thurman Jones, Bob Wilson, Fred Edwards, Gene Rush, Fred Wilson and John Senn.

HURST, JESSIE L.

Jessie L. Hurst, 75, a former El Dorado resident, died Tuesday evening in Mountain View, Ark. Funeral services will be at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado Friday at 11 a.m. with burial in the Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mrs. Hurst was born January 17, 1910, in Moto, Ark., the daughter of Jessie M. and Louenda Harris Holloway. She married Charles C. Hurst in 1932 at Winfield, Kan. Her husband preceded her in death in 1972.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, George C. Hurst of Mountain View, Ark., and Lewis Hurst of Hutchinson; three daughters, Laverne Simonson of Collinsville, Ill., Barbara A. Akers of Enid, Okla., and Patricia J. Marraccano of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Chloa Shannon of West Plains, Mo.; and 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, January 31, 1985)

HUXMAN, ELMER EARL

Elmer Earl Huxman, 62, of 1719 Looman in Wichita, a retired Cessna Aircraft Co., tool and die maker and father of Lois Elizabeth Burnham of Augusta, died Monday. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Bible Church in Wichita.

Other survivors include his wife, Esther L.; sons, Harold Earl of Maize and Wayne E. of Wichita; daughter, Elaine Louise Huxman of Grandview, Mo.; mother, Esther M. Huxman and brothers, Orlin and Melvin all of Moundridge; sister, Emma Ruth Schmidt of Canton; and three grandchildren.

Memorial has been established with the Calvary Bible Church.

McKITTRICK, HELEN L.

Helen L. McKittrick, 90, of rural Burns, died Sunday morning Dec. 17, 1994, at Wheat State Manor Nursing Home. Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Wonsevu Christian church with Rev. George Lespangard officiating. Burial was in the Wonsevu (Community) Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 8, 1904, in Hugh, Ohio, the daughter of Peter and Eva McElwain Keister. On Aug. 11, 1923, she and Howard "Quess" McKittrick were married in Eureka. He died in 1993. She attended the Wonsevu Christian Church and was a member of the church's Ladies Aid, the Home Demonstration Unit, and had been a 4-H Leader for many years.

Survivors include: daughters, Betty Woodward of Maize, Rosalie Baker of Riverton, Wyo., Dolly Byram of Emporia, Wallie Waldmeier of Newton, Sharon Taylor of Wichita; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

McKOWN, LAWRENCE E. "MAC"


Lawrence E. "Mac" McKown, 88 of El Dorado, died Monday, Feb. 14, 1994 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

He was born June 23, 1905, at Scotia, Calif., the son of Robert L. and Ethel Wilcox McKown. He had made his home in the El Dorado area since 1926. He was a retired Cities Service Employee working for the company from 1926 to 1967. He then worked and managed the Elks Club from 1967 to 1974. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Elks Lodge. On Jan. 23, 1928, he married Cleo Estalene Day in El Dorado. She preceded him in death on June 10, 1981.

Survivors include: son, Larry of Wichita, daughters, Bobbie Lee and Marilyn Porter, both of El Dorado, sister, Helen White of El Dorado, six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Memorials in his memory for the American Diabetes Association may be left at Carlson Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times, Feb. 15, 1994)

McLAUGHLIN, LELAMAY

Lelamay McLaughlin, 72, of El Dorado, died Friday, August 5, 1994 at Wesley Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blankenship Cemetery, Rosalia.

She was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Pond Creek, Okla., the daughter of Vernon and Hulda (Steiger) Riggs, and had lived in Butler County most of her life. On April 11, 1950, she and Henry McLaughlin were married. He died July 17, 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include: stepmother, Jane Riggs of Augusta; sons, Jackie Church of Belle Fourche, S. D., Eddie Church of Toppenish, Wash.; sister, Audrey Cryderman of Augusta; five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. (El Dorado Times, August 8, 1994)
