COOK, EDDIE LAWRENCE

Cook, Eddie Lawrence, 67, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001. Memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday, First United Methodist Church; inurnment will follow at Cassoday Cemetery; cremation will precede the funeral.

Mr. Cook was born May 6, 1934 at Athens, Texas, the youngest of eight children born to the late Minnie and Lawrence Cook. He was raised in Eustace, Texas.

He was the owner of Cook's Auto Salvage Inc., Wichita. He retired from the Air Force in 1972, after serving 20 years. The first four years were spent in the Marines with service in Korea. He then joined the Air Force and served in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

Mr. Cook was a lifetime member of the VFW, the Cassoday Lions Club and the Cassoday First United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman.

Preceded in death by three siblings.

GURNEY, EDNA

COTTONWOOD FALLS --- Edna H. Gurney, 85, Cottonwood Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at an Emporia nursing home.

Mrs. Gurney and her husband farmed in the Homestead and Cassoday communities until 1973.

She was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Cassoday, the daughter of George and Myrtle Martin Mulanax. She moved to Cottonwood Falls from the farm in the middle 1970s.

She married Lee J. Gurney on Dec. 9, 1935, in Emporia. He died Dec. 5, 1983.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur Lee Gurney, Cottonwood Falls, and Charles William "Bill" Gurney, Wyandotte, Okla.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gurney was cremated. No services are scheduled. Inurnment in Cassoday Cemetery will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chase County Emergency Medical Service and sent in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls.
