Cecil Doran Varner, son of Edwin Cassius Varner and Ona (Carr) Varner, was born on February 5, 1906 at the family
home South of Augusta, and passed from this life on March 17, 1972 at the age of 65 years, following a long and
hard illness.
On March 27, 1935 he was united in marriage to Mary Marlys Mallison. To this union was born one daughter, Vicky
Suzanne.
Mr. Varner was a farmer and a rancher all of his life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Augusta,
Kansas, and the Mystic Tie Lodge No. 74, the Wichita Consistory, The D.U. Fraternity of Kansas State University
and the local Rotary Club.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of the home, his daughter and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Marland Boucher,
and the grand daughter, Dana Doree Boucher as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceeded in death by 3 sisters; Edna, Ethel and Velma and by 2 brothers; Chester and Ralph.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon, March 20, 1972 at 2:00 o'clock from the Dunsford Funeral Chapel.
Rev. Vernon V. White, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiated. Mrs. Viola Bagby presided at the chapel organ,
and Mr. Dwight Markley was soloist, singing "Beyond the Sunset." Casketbearers were Sherman Parry, Bob
Bisagno, Jack Hoefgen, Charles McCullough, Morris Moon and Max Hendrickson.
Interment was made in the Elmwood Mausoleum, Augusta, Kansas.

Mary Marlys Varner, 82, Roger, Ark., former Augustan, died Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel in Augusta with Rev.
Vem Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Varner was born on June 16, 1912 at Boise, Idaho, as the daughter of Dr. Samuel Neal and Dora Alice Heaston
Mallison.
On March 27, 1935, she married Cecil D. Vamer in Augusta. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1972 at Augusta.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and a charter member of theP.E.O. Chapter of AF.
The homemaker leaves a daughter, Vicky Boucher, and her husband,, Marland, of Garfield, Ark.; a granddaughter,
Dana Fretz, and her husband, Kenny, and a great-grandson, Kyle Fretz, all of Beaumont, Texas.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association, 3210 E. Douglas, Wichita, Kan. 67208- 3309.

Age 87. Born January 12, 1909, passed away April 4, 1996. Mr Patterson was born on a farm in Towanda, Kansas, in
his youth he was an avid boxing athlete. In 1927 he moved to California, he married the lady of his life Madge
Lucille, and resided for 57 years of the 61 years of their lives in the house he built for them in Van Nuys. Hewas
an aircraft engineer for several major aircraft companies. Later owned and operated his own auto repair business.
He is proceeded in death by his wife Madge Lucille, survived by daughter Sharon Volk of Reseda, California., and
Linda Seeger of Chico, California. Grandsons David and Nathan Volk, and Andrew and Kevin Seeger. One brother Clare
Patterson of Kansas, sisters Lillie Jackson of Wyoming, and Lovey Boucher of Kansas.

Age 82, of Van Nuys. Passed away August 18, 1994. Survived by her husband, Allie; daughters Sharon Volk and Linda
seeger; grandsons, David, Nathan, Andrew and Kevin; sister Jessie Lane; aunt, Myrtle Foster, who is 104 years old;
aunt Ada; cousin Ramona Ellis; and a step-sister, Midge.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 23, 1994 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 8520 Winnetka Aveenue, Canoga
Park. Please call the church at 818-341-3460 for the time of the service. Mrs. Patterson was a resident of Van
Nuys since 1938. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

LILLIE MAY
Lillie May "Patterson" Jackson died December 28, 1999 in Denver, Colorado. She was born August 12, 1913
at Andover, Kansas the daughter of Albert Mansfield and Lillie Martha "Harris" Patterson. Lillie was
the 8th of 11 children. She lived in the Augusta area most of her life.
On April 18, 1933, she and William Fredrick Opperman, Jr. were united in a ceremony at Winfield, Kansas. Bill died
August 23, 1946.
On January 15, 1947 Lillie and Marvin Jackson were married in a ceremony at Augusta. Marvin died August 31, 1989
in Glenrock, Wyoming. To this union one son, Curtis was born.
Survivors include her son Curtis, two grandchildren, Julie and James, a sister, Lovey Boucher of Augusta, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, two sisters, Alberta Dagel and Connie Urban, and seven brothers, Lee, Loy, Ryle, Ross,
Clive, Fay and Clare, preceded her in death.
Lillie was buried in the Glenrock Cemetery, Glenrock, Wyoming, next to her husband Marvin.

Casper-- Graveside services and burial of Marvin R. Jackson, 77, of Glenrock will be conducted at 3:30pm Tuesday
at the Glenrock Cemetery by Rev. Roger Hawthorne of Winter Memorial Presbyterian church.
Mr. Jackson died August 31, 1989, at Wyoming Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born November 16,
1911, at Burns, Kansas, the son of Alberet T. and Mattie F. " White" Jackson.
On January 16, 1946, he married Lillie May Patterson in Augusta, Kansas.
Mr. Jackson had been a farmer and rancher all his adult life, and moved to Glenrock in April 1989 from Kansas.
He is survived by his wife and one son, Curtis Jackson, both of Glenrock; one brother Jess Jackson of El Dorado,
Kansas; and two grandchildren.
Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

RYLE HARRIS
Ryle Harris Patterson, 61, died at his home in Lakeport, California on April 10, 1967. He was born October 21,
1905 near Towanda, the son of Albert Mansfield and Lillie Martha "Dalton" Patterson. He was the fourth
of eleven children. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by two brothers, Loy and Lee.
Ryle was Air Force Civil Service Supervisor at McClellan Field in California and had 30 years of service.
He is survived by a son, Mark and two daughters, Donna and Bonnie all of California.
Other survivors include four brothers; Allie Faye, Van Nuys, California, Ross and Clive, Wichita, Kansas; Clare
of Augusta, Kansas, and four sisters, Alberta Dagel, Lovey Boucher and Connie Urban all of Augusta, Kansas and
Lillie Jackson of Toronto, Kansas.
Services were held April 19, 1967 in Highland Park, California and burial was in Valhaulla Memorial Park, North
Hollywood, California. Utter McKinley Mortuary was in charge.

ALBERT LOY
Albert Loy Patterson died at his home in Inglewood, California, September 10, 1961. He was born April 30, 1902
in Butler Co., Kansas, the son of Albert Mansfield and Lillie Martha 'Harris" Patterson. Loy was the second
of eleven children. Brothers, Ryle and Fay, of California, Ross, Clive, and Clare of Kansas and sisters, Alberta
Dagel, Lillie Jackson, Lovey Boucher and Connie Urban all of Kansas, survive. A brother Lee died in 1942.
Loy married Laura Bell Dodge September 14, 1927 in Glendale, California. She survives along with a son Marvin,
his wife Shirley, their children, Dennis, Cynthia and Randall; daughter Shirley Schneider, her husband Joseph,
and their children Michael and Daniel; daughter Diane Bowersox, her husband Dorsey, and their children, Connie
and Mark; a grandson David Patterson died in 1957.
Services were held on September 14, with burial in the Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California.

Varner Services Tuesday Afternoon
A well-known and well-liked Butler county pioneer resident, Edwin Cassius (Edd) Varner, died at his home Sunday
evening after a three-year illness.
Funeral services will be held from the Dunsford chapel tomorrow at 2:30 with Rev. V. A. Major in charge. Interment
will be in the mausoleum at Elmwood cemetery.
Mr. Varner was 84 years old. He was the son of the late Jesse and Olive Orr Varner and was born May 17, 1867 in
Jackson county, Illinois. The family came to Butler county from Illinois in 1878.
Mr. Varner was imbued with the true pioneer spirit of the flint hills. He was a farmer until moving to Augusta
many years ago. He served in his rural district as a township trustee and on the school board. Mr. Varner was a
member of the Methodist church, the Masonic lodge and Consistory.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Robert B. (Velma) Dockum of Wichita; two sons, Cecil D. of Augusta and Ralph B.
of Wichita; a sister, Mrs. Ella Reed of Rock; and five grandchildren.
His marriage to Ona Carr took place in Augusta on September 23, 1894. Her death occurred January 16, 1945.
Only one of this large and prominent family who saw Butler county change from pasture land and farm land to oil
and industry remains. That is the sister of the Varner brothers, Mrs. Reed of Rock.
When the history of South Butler county is written in the years to come, the name Varner will be prominent in the
accounting of farming and oil industries in this part of Butler.

Mrs E C Varner Passes Tuesday
After a lingering illness of over six months Mrs. Ona Carr Varner died Tuesday afternoon at her
home, 1030 State St.
She was born March 22, 1871 near Gallatin, Tennessee, the daughter of D M and Nancy Carr. She came with her parents
to Kansas at the age of 11 years and settled in Butler county where she has spent the remainder of her life.
Ona Carr was married to Edd Varner September 23, 1894. They recently enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary together.
Six children were born of whom three have preceded her in death. Besides her husband, Edd Varner, she is survived
by three chidren, Ralph, Cecil and Velma Dockum and five, grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs
R L Hanes of Shawnee, Oklahoma,Mrs C E Naylor Dundee, Texas and one brother J A Carr of Frederick, Oklahoma and
other relatives.
She had been a member of Methodist church since early childhood. Funeral services are to be
held Thursday, 3:00 p m from the Dunsford chapel in Augusta.
Ona Varner's pleasures and interest in Iife were most enjoyed through devotion to her family and
home life. In her passing, another Butler county pioneer has gone from our midst.
Beloved by her family, her neighbors and friends, her parting has caused a loss that cannot be replaced.

CHESTER

Chester C. Varner, 22 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Varner died at his home last night at 12:45 o'clock.
Since Friday morning Chester was thought to have been out of immediate danger, and was rallying. Late Sunday night,
however, a rapid sinking spell started which medical skill could not allay, and he died shortly after. Death was
due to heart trouble.
Chester was born near Augusta, and spent all his life in this vicinity. He was to have been graduated from Southwestern
college, Winfield, next year. He had already received his registration as an assistant pharmacist, which work he
intended to follow throughout his life.
Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Varner; two sisters, Mrs. Wesley Skaer and Miss Velma Varner,
and two brothers, Cecil and Ralph Varner, all of Augusta.
Funeral services will be held at the home on North State street tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Interment will
be in the Augusta mausoleum.
