O'BRYAN, CHESTER C.

Chester C. O'Bryan, 77 dies

Chester C. O'Bryan, 77, 425 W. Ash, died Monday morning at his home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Beaumont Cemetery.

O'Bryan was born Nov. 9, 1903, in Collville, Wash., the son of Bill and Effie Olds O'Bryan. He moved to the Beaumont area in 1920 from Washington. He was employed by the Frisco Railroad from 1922 until 1942. He retired as a farmer.

On Nov. 22, 1924 he was married to Vera Squier. On April 16, 1975 he was married to Velma Knust. He attended the Methodist Church, was a member of the Latham Masonic Lodge 401, the El Dorado Moose Lodge and the Golden Age Club.

Survivors include his wife, Velma, of the home; one son, Lyle O'Bryan, Route 1, Latham, two daughters, Mrs. Frances Scott, WInfield, and Mrs. Lois Batlin, Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, LEster O'Bryan, Mantee, Kan.; one sister, Mrs. Beulah Mollenhauer, Spokane, Wash., five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. (El Dorado Times, Page 3, Tuesday, May 26, 1981)

OLINGER, KEITH

Keith Olinger, 70, of Lexington, Okla., died Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Baptist Medical Center from complications from a tractor acident. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Corbett Baptist Church, in Lexington, with Rev. Randy Golden and Willard Olinger officiating. Interment will be at Corbett Cemetery with military honors.

He was born June 9, 1931 to Edward Lincoln and Ruth Bailey Olinger in Greensburg. He grew up in Burns and later in El Dorado. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1949. He joined the Kansas Army National Guard and was a veteran of the Korean War. After the war, he continued to serve his country in the U.S. Army Reserves in Kansas. He went to work as a truck driver for various companies for a few years before he started driving a truck for Consolidated Freight Ways. He also farmed and ranched during most of his life. He retired from Consolidated Freight Ways after 25 years of service. He moved to Oklahoma in 1980 and in the mid 1980's, he moved east of Lexington and continued to raise cattle.

On July 7, 1989, he was married to Yvonne Cook at the Corbett Baptist Church. He was an auctioneer for many years in the Cleveland and McClain County area. He enjoyed working with his horses for the last few years. He was a member of the Corbett Baptist Church, serving on the Nominating and Bylaws Committee and was the former Sunday School director. He also was a member of the Teamsters Union.

Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Meridian, Texas; sons, Daniel Keith Olinger and wife Evanelle and David Wayne Olinger, all of Wichita; daughters, Linda May Jay and husband Adam of Wichita and Teresa Kay Howell of El Dorado; brothers, Harvey Allen Olinger and wife Ann of Huntington Beach, Calif., Nelson Edward Olinger and wife Leatha of Independence, Warren Basil Olinger of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif, and Willard Russell Olinger and wife Betty Ruth of Greensburg; sisters, Marjorie Marie Rilye and Barbara Joan Newbill of California and Kathryn Salmans and husband Bill of Meridian, Texas; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sisters, Iris Darlene Olinger.

OLINGER, RUTH B.

Ruth B. Olinger, 102, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001 in the Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton, Texas. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 17 at Fleener Chapel, Greensburg, with Rev. Keith Dellenbach officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.

She was born Sept. 19, 1899 to the late Lincoln and Etta Gilchrist Bailey in Raymond. She and her hsuband lived on their farm south of Burns in 1935. The farm was sold in 1949 and they moved to El Dorado. While in El Dorado, she owned and operated the Silver Thimble Sewing Shop. She retired in 1977 and moved to Greensburg to be near family. She moved to Meridian, Texas, two years ago to live with a daughter. She was an active member of the Christian Church for many years and also taught sewing the 4-H and Farm Bureau. She will be remembered for her writing of poetry, sewing, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include sons, Harvey and wife Anne of California, Basil W. and wife Frances of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., Willard R. and wife Betty of Greensburg and Nelson and wife Letha of Independence; daughters, Marjorie Riley of New Berry, Calif., Kathryn Salmans and husband Bill of Meridian, Texas and Barbara Newbill of Hisperia, Calif., 26 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 23, 1984; a son Keith Olinger, a daughter Iris D. Olinger, four brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or Faith Tabernacle in care of Fleener Funeral Home, which has the arrangements. (El Dorado Times, November 17, 2001)

OLIVER, DONALD L. "BIG DOG"

Donald L. “Big Dog” Oliver, 70, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at his home in Lebo. Memorial graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at Lincoln Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Friday at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo.

Donald was born March 9, 1936 in Americus, the son of Walter and Marjorie Key Oliver. He was raised by Earl key and Frank and Lois Baxter in Admire and Miller. He graduated from Miller High School in 1954. Donald served in the U.S. Army and spent 14 months in Japan.

He worked for Hecla Mining Company after the service and then returned to the Santa Fe Railroad where he worked for 42 years before retiring in 1998.

Don was an avid basketball fan, attending all the Final Fours since 1984 and all Emporia State University and Flinthills games. He traveled extensively and loved his grandkids dearly.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lebo. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and the Allen American Legion Post #389.

He married Mary Riegel on March 26, 1958 in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include: daughter, Cammy Kay Onek of El Dorado; son, Scott Douglas Oliver and his wife Marne of Omaha, Neb.; father, Walter Oliver of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; brothers, Byron Oliver of Missoula, Mont., and Edward Oliver of Osburn, Idaho; grandchildren, Coby, Chayne and Caley Onek of Emporia; sister-in-law, Dottie Enserro of Emporia; and cousin, Michael Oliver of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie; and step-mother, Ethel Oliver.
