Earl Adams, 79, of Potwin dies

Earl Adams, 79, of Potwin, died Thursday at Wheatstate Manor Nursing Home at Whitewater.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church at Potwin with burial in the Potwin Cemetery.

Mr. Adams was born Jan 14, 1901, at Potwin and was a retired chemist for Vickers Refining Company. He married Reva L. Rhoades Nov. 26, 1925, at Wichita and she preceded him in death.

Survivors are a son, Richard of Potwin; a daughter, Jane Adams, a teacher at Derby; two sisters, Miss Amy L. Adams of El Dorado and Mrs. Ruth Pettit of Ozark, Mo.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church of Potwin.

Lamb Mortuary of Whitewater was in charge of arrangements.

Richard (Doc) Allen Adams, 71, of Potwin, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999 at his home. Services will be at 2p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at Potwin Christian Church with theRev. Rick McNary officiating. Interment will follow at Potwin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at Bob Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater.

Casket bearers will be Gale (Nip) Morgan, James (Tuck) Morgan, Rick Morgan, Raymond (Skip) Morgan, Patrick Adams, and Mike Adams. Soloist will be Patrick Adams.

He was born Feb. 9, 1927 to Raymond Earl and Rita Rhoades Adams in Potwin. He attended Potwin schools from 1st grade through graduation. He received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Kansas State University. In 1970 he founded the Potwin Veterinary Service.

He married Nadine Paige Dec. 23, 1957. She survives.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Potwin's Lion Club, Kansas Veterinary Medicine Association (KVMA) for which he served as president in 1987, and the Potwin Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six sons, Gale (Nip) Morgan of Lone Pine, Calif., James (Tuck) and Rick Morgan of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Raymond (Skip) Morgan of Aqua Dulce, Calif., Patrick Adams of Thousand Oaks, and Mike Adams of El Dorado; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jane.

Memorials have been established for Hospice, Inc. and the Potwin Christian Church.

He was born Nov. 9, 1907.

Rev. Dennis Hanna officiated the services. Betty Kaufman was the organist. Jack Lockwood sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset".

WHITTINGTON, W. K. "Ken"

POTWIN -
Whittington, W.K. "Ken," 71, died Friday, July 21, 2006. Service 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Potwin Christian Church. Ken was born Feb. 1, 1935 in Lamont, Kan. to Emma (Schurter) and Ben Whittington. The family moved to Emporia, Kan. in 1942, where he attended school, graduating in 1953 from Emporia High School. He then furthered his education at Emporia State University, where he received a secondary teaching degree in Business Education. In 1955, Ken married his high school sweetheart, Jean (Davis) in Emporia. They were blessed with a son, Kelly, and a daughter, Leslie. Ken and Jean moved to Potwin in 1958, where Ken taught at Potwin Grade School for two years, and then on to Potwin High School for three years. When the new consolidated high school, Remington High School, was built in 1964, he went to teach and coach there until 1966. Ken then worked for King Van Lines for 13 years as vice-president, until the company closed in 1979. Ken's life-long dream of being in the gardening business came in 1980, when he was hired to work for Gard-N-Wise in Wichita. Ken was sales manager for Gard-N-Wise until his retirement in 2003. Ken was one of the "Gard-N-Wise Guys" on the radio for three years, and was the "Fertilome Man" in many commercials before his retirement. Survivors include, his wife Jean, of the home; son, Kelly and wife Irene of Potwin; daughter, Leslie Krahn and husband Don of Towanda; five grandchildren, Nick Krahn of Lenexa, Megan McCormick and husband Andy of Potwin, Kellie Wartick and husband Matt of El Dorado, Dan Whittington of Potwin, and Cari Krahn of Towanda. Ken is also survived by his sister, Martha Schuler and husband Arlyn of Bella Vista, Ark.; and brother, John Whittington of Kansas City, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dick; and one sister, Darlene. Memorials have been established with the Hunter Health Clinic in Wichita. Services by Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater.

Mrs. Witt was a graduate of Burden High School. She was a member and deaconess of Potwin Christian Church.

She was known for her cooking, her love of animals, especially cats and her personality.

Survivors: husband, Bob; son, Tim of Wichita; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Mark Paolucci, Sandy and Steve Brooks all of Wichita; brother, William Bennett of Derby; eight grandchildren. Memorial established with St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Witt, Robert F. "Bob,"
67, retired Cessna Aircraft Co. material store manager, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001. Visitation with family 6 to 8 p.m.; masonic service 7 p.m. both today, Kirby-Morris Funeral Home; service 1 p.m. Friday, Potwin Christian Church.

Mr. Witt was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He entered the Army at the age of 15 and received five battlestars for his service in the Korean War.

He was a member and deacon of Potwin Christian Church. He served on the Wheatstate Nursing Center board.

Mr. Witt enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors: son, Tim of Wichita; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Mark Paolucci, Sandy and Steve Brooks all of Wichita; brother, Ulen of Mo.; sisters, Irene Snorgrass, Shirley Gramlich both of Mo., Dorothy Freeman of Colo.; eight grandchildren. Memorials established with Wichita Vet Center and Korean War Memorial of Wichita.
