PACKER, EFFIE JANE

Services for Mrs. Effie Jane Packer who died Sunday, April 3, at her home, 218 North Gordy Street, were held Thursday afternoon at the Kirby Funeral Home. The Rev. Orville Hess officiated. Mrs. Eugene M. Dunn, Mrs. Jesse Ray and Mrs. Dale Bisel sang, accompanied by Henry Marley, organist. The casket bearers were Gerald Erpelding, Robert Thompson, Ronald Schmidt, Phil Allison, Robert Schmidt and Richard Dixon. Interment was in Sunset Lawns.

A resident of El Dorado since 1915, Mrs. Packer was born October 15, 1891 at Springfield, Mo.

Surviving are three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Mary E. Dixon and Mrs. Marie Schmidt of El Dorado; Mrs. Anna Taylor of Kingsville, South Dakota; Havey L. Gooch of Salina, and Wesley Hoober of Louisana; two stepdaughters and two stepsons, Mrs. Lucille Lambilotte of El Dorado; Mrs. Faye Landon of Wichita, Chester Packer of Oklahoma, and Frank Packer of El Dorado; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Ramsey and Mrs. Minnie Randel of Springfield and a brother, Frank who lives in Missouri. PARSCAL, RAY E.

Ray E. Parscal, 80, 1221 Finney, died Saturday at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kirby Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the services in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mr. Parscal was born March 12, 1904 in El Dorado the son of Alonzo and Minnie Huston Parscal. He attended schools in Butler County. On July 13, 1929 he was married to Cecile Throckmorton in El Dorado. He was formerly employed by Skelly Oil Company and retired as a foreman of Lewis and West Construction company.

A self educated carpenter he was very instrumental in many construction projects in El Dorado. Some included McDonald Stadium, the Bandshell, the Swinging Bridge, the El Dorado Lake, The Carriage House and many of the homes in the area. Mr. Parscal had lived in this area all but five years when he farmed in Missouri. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Cecile M., of the home; three sons, Glen, Grand Junction, Colo., Roy, San Diego, Calif., and Melvin D., Derby; three daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Groves, El Dorado, Mrs. Doris Boucher, Wichita and Mrs. Eleanor Dodd, Pocola, Okla., one sister, Mrs. Minnie Taylor, Renton, Wash., and 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers; one sister; and one grandson, Michael Groves.

PATTERSON, A. MUREL (STAFFORD)

A. Murel (Stafford) Patterson, 94, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dunsford Chapel.

She was born May 30, 1907 in Beckham County West Territory, Indian Nations, Okla. She came to Augusta in 1926.

On March 27, 1927, she was married to Ruby W. Patterson in Marion. He preceded her in death in September 1978. She retired from the Gas Service Company in 1972 after 21 years.

Survivors include: a son, Wallace Patterson and wife Sandra of Oxford; grandchildren, Keith Alan Patterson of Maple Grove, Minn., Kay Lynn Peterson of Garden City and Carol Ann Hughes of Mulvane; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nancy Elizabeth (Parks) Stafford, a brother, Wallace Stafford, and a great granddaughter, Janine Nicole Peterson.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at Dunsford Chapel. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 2420 N. Ohio, Augusta, KS 67010. Dunsford Funeral Home has the arrangements. (El Dorado Times, November 8, 2001)

PATTERSON, IVA C.

Mrs. Iva C. Patterson, 85, a former resident of El Dorado died early this morning at the home of her son, J. Homer Patterson, El Paso, Texas.

She was born at Ansonia, Ohio, Aug. 22, 1868, and was married there to J. A. Patterson in 1892. He preceded her in death in 1937.

Mrs. Patterson came to El Dorado in 1916 and lived here until two years ago when she moved to Texas. She was a member of the First Methodist church of El Dorado.

Besides her son, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. C. M. Michael, 1220 West Central; one brother, Glenn Housholder, North Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Miss Minnie Housholder, Chicago; Mrs. Grace Longcrick, Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Byrd Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times, January 7, 1954)

PATTERSON, WILLIAM HARRY SR.

William Harry Patterson Sr., 81, of Augusta, died here Tuesday in Allen Memorial Hospital.

Born in the old Wingate community, he was a resident of Butler county all of his life and of Augusta for 63 years. A retired businessman, he once owned P & G Bakery in Augusta for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Mystic Tie No. 74, Masonic Lodge, Augusta and the United Methodist church, Augusta.

His survivors include: his widow, Mable; two sons, William H. Jr., and Charles R. , both of Augusta; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Dill and Mrs. L. E. Cornelius, both of Augusta, Mrs. Preston Scott of Bartlesville, Okla. and Mrs. Robert Clark of Blue Springs, Mo., two brothers; Frank of Augusta and R. W. of Derby, two sister, Mrs. Una Taylor of Augusta and Mrs. Eva Myers of St. Louis, Mo., 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Patterson's name with the National Foundation for Kidney Research with Dunsford Funeral Home acting as coordinator. (El Dorado Times, June 9, 1971)

POE, LAFE D.

Lafe D. Poe, 65, formerly of El Dorado, died early Wednesday morning at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wichita. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the services in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mr. Poe was born April 20, 1919 in El Dorado the son of Harley Sherman and Emma Mae (Bays) Poe. He had lived most of his life in the El Dorado area and had also lived in Stafford in the 1950's and 60's. In more recent years he had lived in this area. He had worked in the oil fields and was also self-employed as a welder for a number of years. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include one son, Dean Poe of Guthrie, Okla.; five daughters, Vicky Terrell of Wichita, Cheryl Davis of Dumas, Texas, Sandy Odle of St. John, Tammy Howerdton of Eureka and Angel Poe of Plainsville; two stepsons, Terry Lee Hodges and Tommy Hodges of Stafford; two brothers, William Poe of Frankfurt, West Germany and Clifton Poe of Apple Valley, Calif; three sisters, Betty Heyman of El Dorado, Mary Causey of Claflin and Virginia Hamilton of Osseo, Mich.; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents one brother and one sister.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent to the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, who has charge of arrangements. (El Dorado Times, Jan. 3, 1985)

POINDEXTER, MAUD HAZEL

Funeral services for Maud Hazel Poindexter, 87, of Ames, Okla., an aunt of Mrs. Bill Dennett of Augusta, were held Jan. 28 at Brown Funeral Home in Enid, Okla. Burial was in the Hennessey Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 1, 1897 near El Dorado, the daughter of Frank and Ionia Curtis Burner. She moved to Oklahoma when she was 4 years odl.

On Oct. 2, 1915 she was married to Joseph Poindexter at Higgins, Okla. He died in 1945.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by four daughters, Margaret Norris of Hennessey, Okla., Madalyn Cooper of Ames, Okla., Iantha King of Woodward, Okla., and Wyvonna Myers of Midwest City, Okla., two sons, Orin Poindexter of Enid, Okla and Alvan Poindexter of La Habra, Calif, and 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Poindexter and a daughter, Jo Dene Cox, and a granddaughter, Sharon Cox. (El Dorado Times, Feb. 9, 1985)

PORTER, ROBERT M.

Robert M. Porter, 72, retired Skelly & Getty Refinery employee, died Monday, Sept. 17, 1990. Service 11 a.m. Thursday, Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.

Survivors: wife, Charlotte, daughter, Donelda Schlesinger of Wichita, mother, Alta of Waverly, sisters, Georgia Hendrix of Andover, Virginia Grant of Waaverly, three grandchildren. Memorial has been established with Amyotrophic Lateral Scierosis Society. (El Dorado Times, Sept. 19, 1990)

PREWITT, JANIS M. (ELLIOTT)

Janis M. (Elliott) Prewitt, 34, homemaker, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 1990. Service 11 a.m. Friday, United Methodist Church.

Survivors: husband, Randy; daughter, Courtney, at home; parents, Jack and Wanda Elliott of Alta Vista; brother, Craig of Maize, sister Jacquelyn Denney of Lawrence; grandmothers, Lola Peach of Mooreland, Okla., Grace Motley of Exeter, Ontario, Canada.
