REED, MARTIN

Martin Reed, 75, of El Dorado died Friday at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Masonic graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 12, 1926 to Robert O. and Clara Reber Reed in Granvy, Mo. He made his home in El Dorado for the past 40 years, moving from Great Bend. He worked for PAR Ditching for 25 years and for the past 11 years at the Butler County Landfill. He served for a short time in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1962, belonging to Patmos Lodge #97, El Dorado, the Leon Lodge and the Latham Lodge. He was a member of all the York Rite bodies where he was the recipient of many prestigious awards.

On Oct. 25, 1944, he was married to Dora Peters in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife of the home, a daughter, Rebecca Castello of Joplin, Mo.; brothers Jesse Reed and Ben Reed both of El Dorado, a sister, Hattie Conner of Carthage, Mo.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and two brothers.

Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Knights Templar Eye Foundation in care of Carlson Funeral Home, which has the arrangements. (El Dorado Times, May 26, 2001)

REYNOLDS, MARJORIE M.

Marjorie M. Reynolds, 78, of Wichita and formerly of El Dorado, died Saturday, Feb. 24, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 28, at the Smith Mortuary in Derby. Graveside services will be held at noon in Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado.

She was born Sept. 26, 1922 to William Alexander and Hazel Emily (Turner) Dunlap in Alvia, Iowa. On Nov. 17, 1943, she was married to Homer L. Reynolds in Hutchinson. She was a homemaker and volunteered at the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita.

Survivors include her husband of the home, a son, Bill Reynolds of Glencoe, Okla., daughters, Patty Wells of Arlington, Texas., and Janice Baker of Wichita, grandchildren, Gary, Kim and Eric Wells and Ryan and Alexis Baker and great-grandchildren, Tripp, Callie and Race Wells.

RILEY, MELISSA ELAINE

Melissa Elaine Riley, 3, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Sept. 28. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Assembly of God Church in El Dorado.

Survivors include, her father: James K. Riley Jr. of El Dorado; her mother, Christine Riley of El Dorado; a sister, Jennifer Riley of El Dorado; grandparents, T. J. and Nancy Newman of El Dorado and Ken and Carol Riley of Newton, great-grandparents, Ted and Juanita Guthridge of Collinsville, Okla.; uncles Tom Newman of Wichita, Robert Riley of Newton and Corby Malik of Edwardsville and aunts, Kim Newman of Wichita and Terri Malik of Edwardsville.

ROBERTS, ELIZABETH ADA

Elizabeth Ada Roberts, 95, Augusta, retired cashier for Cooper Drug, passed away on Friday, Jan. 26, 2007.

Visitation today until 8 p.m., with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Christ Lutheran Church in Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1911 in Milford Township, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Ethel Carlton Kenison.

Survivors include: sons, Loren (Phyllis) Roberts of Shell Knob, Mo., and Leroy Roberts of Anaheim, Calif.; brother, Jack Kenison of Rogers, Ark.; sister, Peggy Baumbach of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Loyd C. Roberts, Jr. in 1953, and her husband, Loyd C. Roberts in 1968.

ROBERTSON, MYRTLE O.

Myrtle O. Robertson, 84 of 1000 South Atchison, died Thursday morning at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kirby Morris Funeral Home with burial in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Mrs. Robertson was born April 12, 1895 at Atchison, the daughter of George and Lottie Brown. On April 14, 1913, she married Owen James Robertson at Sedan and he died Aug. 5, 1968. She moved to El Dorado 54 years ago from Chautauqua County. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Rollin G. of 1129 South Summit; a daughter, Mrs. Roy A. (Ethelene) Phillips of 1402 West 6th; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley (Bessie) Porter of Bartlesville, Okla., and Mrs. Jake (Beaula) Patteson of Grove, Okla.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The casket will be closed at the service. Friends may call until service time at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times, August 2, 1979)

ROBERTSON, OWEN JAMES

Services held Wednesday for O. J. Robertson

Services were held Wednesday in the Kirby Funeral Home Chapel for Owen James Robertson of 1000 South Denver who died August 5 in Allen Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Thomas J. Bennett, interim pastor of the First Christan Church officiated. Graydon Waldorf sang "In the Garden" and "Old Rugged Cross," with Miss Dorothy Sanquist as organist. The casket bearers were Frank Marley, Joe Marcum, Roy Phillips Sr., Roy S. Wallace, J. C. Mattox and B. M. Tarrant. Interment was in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Mr. Robertson was born July 6, 1886 at Emporia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Houston Robertson (Louisa Stogsdill) and was married to Myrtle Brown April 14, 1913 at Sedan. Before coming to El Dorado 44 years ago, he had lived in Haven, Douglass and Augusta.

Prior to retirement in 1951, Mr. Robertson had been a stillman with Skelly refinery 25 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Surviving are Mrs. Robertson; one daughter, Mrs. Roy Phillps, Jr., 1402 West Sixth avenue; one son, Rollin Robertson, 1129 South Summit, five sisters, and a brother, Mrs. Mamie Douglas of Caney; Mrs. Etta McSpadden and Mrs. Anna Ramsey, Wichita; Mrs. Flossie Savage, Miss Hallie Robertson and Guy Robertson of Sedan. There are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. (El Dorado Times, August 8, 1968)

ROWLEY, MERLE P. JONES

Merle P. Jones Rowley, 85, of Williamstown, W. Va., died Dec. 19, 2002, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born Dec. 28, 1916 in Casey, Ill., the daughter of the late Daniel O. and Clara (Sharp) Jones. She had worked many years at Marietta (Ohio) Memorial Hospital and enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was Baptist by faith.

She is survived by eight children and their spouses: Marlene and Terry Andrews of El Dorado; Verna and Dennis Cosner of Williamstown; Ronald and Kim Rowley of Neosho, Mo.; Thelma and Don Curfman of Washington, W. Va.; Wyane and Dianne Rowley of Fall Branch, Tenn.; Gilbert and Donna Rowley of Marietta; Lois and Phil Casto of Marietta; and Judy and Chris Starr of Fort Meyers, Fla. A sister, Bess Ruth McKitrick of Parkersburg, W. Va., also survives, as do 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Dale Rowley, in 1999; three sisters, Helen Allen, Lena Smith and Nellie Miller; an infant brother, Ray Othello Jones; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Dec. 24 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, Ohio. Interment was at Burnt Hill Cemetery in Williamstown. (El Dorado Times, Jan. 9, 2003)

RUNYAN, JESSE (WOKIO) 'DUANE'

Jesse (Wokio) "Duane" Runyan, 67, died Tuesday, Sept. 26. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, at Byrd-Hillside Funeral Home "Midtown."

He was a Pur-O-Zone Chemical Co salesman. He also was a member of the Valley Center Amateur Radio Club and the American Legion.

Survivors include: his wife, Thelma; a son, Phil Runyan of Augusta, a daughter, Patty Wike of Augusta; his mother, Nellie Runyan of Bendene; and four grandchildren.
