Scholarship To El Dorado Minister

The Rev. J. C. Thorns, pastor of the First Prebyterian church of El Dorado, has received a scholarship to attend the Ministers’ Conference to be held July 28 to August 2, in the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Thorns received the scholarship through Dr. Arthur Limouze, secretary of the United Promotion of the General Council of the Presbyterian church of the United States.

The ministers will attend classes four hours each morning and afternoons will be devoted to conferences and recreation. The noted Paul Schere, who talks on the Lutheran radio hour, will have charge of the evening sessions.

Mr. and mrs. Thorns and Jack Joan and Jimmie will leave here July 21. While Mr. Thorns attends the conference, Mrs. Thorns and their children will be guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hallauer in Davenport, Iowa. Early in August the Thorns family will motor to Athens, La., to visit Mr. Thorns’ parents, the Rev. and Mrs. John Thorns.

The first two Sundays of Mr. Thorns’ absence, the Presbyterian pulpit will be filled by the Rev. J. J. G. Graham, of Wichita, and during August the Rev. Milo C. Paulin, of Oil Hill, will substitute for Mr. Thorns. (El Dorado Times ~ Monday ~ 7 July 1941 ~ Transcribed by Lori DeWinkler)
