The cemetery was located on the
east side of the 160 acres of the Sherman farm. The property was purchased by John B.Sherman on
May 10, 1879. The few remaining descendants of the Sherman family live in Ilinois and are in close contract with
me.
The first grave to establish the family cemetery was Paul Sherman May 12, 1885. The last person to be buried is
Gary Lee Hill son of Edith (Sherman) Hill.
Gary was Kansas' first heart transplant patient, with the transplant taking place at St Jospeh hosptial in 1989.
Gary died in April 1994 due to cancer not his heart.
There are only four Sherman family members not buried in the family cemetery. Levi B.Sherman Sr. is buried in Russell
Ks along with his wife and son Levi B. Sherman. Edith (Sherman) Hill is buried at Walnut Valley Memorial Park,
El Dorado, Ks. Eystle ( Crommett) Sherman is buried in Placerville, California, wife of Bill Sherman. A request
was made to have her returned to Butler Co. to be buried in the Sherman cemetery by the family but the request
was denied.
