Mrs. W. M. Sawtell committed suicide this evening in their apartment over the Burns State Bank by shooting herself with a large caliber gun. She had become despondent regarding her health. Her little son, Oseil, was possibly a witness as he was found in the apartment. The husband was at the Phillips Pet. Co. plant. (The Burns Citizen, May 19, 1921)
Died - Miss Irene Sayre, 14 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Sayre of Cedar Point. She was a candidate for a Carnegie Gold Medal because of heroism she performed last summer in saving a Newton woman from drowning while bathing in Lake Tahoe, a summer resort on the Sayre farm. She died at her home of pneumonia following a bout with the flu. (Burns Citizen Dec. 26 1918)
Marion Sidener was shot through the heart and killed on the battlefield in France, Sept. 28, 1918. (The Burns Citizen, Nov. 14, 1918)
Bernard Strotkamp, passed to his reward, Friday, February 10, 1911. Mr. Strotkamp was born in Germany Nov. 16, 1835 and came to the United States in 1855. he located at Cincinnati, Ohio where he lived until 1881 when he, with his family, came to St. Francis City, now the city of Burns, as one of the original German catholic colonists and was therefore closely associated with the early struggles to civilize the wild prairie. He materially aided in the erection of the first church in Burns, in 1882, which is now the Immaculate Conception school building. He was also associated with C. Merry in extending the city from Main street to the county line. (The Burns Citizen - Feb. 16, 1911)
