Victoria K. Schauf, 81, of El Dorado, passed away Monday, Aug. 21, at her home. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.
She was born Sept. 5, 1918 to Herman Joseph and Frances Louise (Erker) Hilger in Cheney. She attended school in St. Joseph.
On Nov. 21, 1939, she was married to Larry H. Schauf in Wichita. She worked as a hostess for Beech Aircraft and as a cook for the Church of the Magdalen parish. She lived in the El Dorado area for the last seven years. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Survivors include: sons, Larry E. Schauf of San Diego, Calif., and Ron J. Schauf of Wichita; daughters, Judy Linnebur of Derby and Karen May of El Dorado; a brother, Francis Hilger of Wichita; a sister, Cecilia Schwint; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Walter J. Hilger, Herman J. Hilger Jr. and Theodore Hilger; sisters, Anna Hilger and Catherine Hilger; and one grandchild.

Virginia Mae Scheideman, 66, of Augusta, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2007.
Private family service will be held.
Virginia was born in Rush Center, Kan. on October 8, 1940, the daughter of the late Floyd and Esther (Myers) Scheideman. She worked as an insurance personnel manager in Chicago, an insurance administrator for Wesley Hospital and a data entry clerk for the U.S. Post Office.
She is survived by: brothers, Donald of Augusta, Raymond of Northridge, Calif., Richard of Colorado Springs, Colo., David and Robert of Wichita, Floyd Jr. of Calif., and Samuel of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Fern Burleson and Patricia Jones of Wichita.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Murphy and Lola Ann Meacham.

Wm. E. Squier, eldest son of Mr and Mrs. A. T. Squier, formerly resident here committed suicide in New York City recently. He had acquired the drink habit. (Feb. 16, 1900, Walnut Valley Times.)
Leo D. Stevenson, 88, of El Dorado, died Saturday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church. Masonic services will be held.
He was born Sept. 26, 1912 to Oscar Lincoln and Victory Valeria Groom Stevenson in Big Wells, Texas. He grew up in Oklahoma, attending three years of school in Okmulgee, and graduated from the Tonkawa, Oklahoma High School. He also attended Oklahoma State University.
On April 2, 1936, he was married to Mary Lee Skinner in Lyons. As a young man he worked in the oilfields and he retired from Beach Aircraft Corporation.
He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon. He was a member of the Patmos Masonic Lodge #97 A.F. & A.M. For many years he volunteered for the Meals on Wheels and Red Cross programs. He loved to hunt, fish and play cards. he also had a large garden he shared with his family and friends.
Survivors include: his wife of the home; daughters, June and husband Ken Usrey of Grand Island, Neb., and Vicki Lowmaster of El Dorado; a brother, Floyd "Steve" Stevenson of Palm Desert, Calif.; and grandchildren, Todd and Scott Usrey, Tammy Wallen, Terry Lowmaster, Melissa Smith, Cindy Kerns and Angie Hillebert.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson, Steven Usrey.

Portia E. Swisher, Butler Pioneer, Dies
Portia E. Swisher, wife of J. H. Swisher, 523 North Denver Street, died this morning at 5 o'clock. Mrs. Swisher was 73 years old. She was one of the oldest settlers in Butler County, she and Mr. Swisher home-steading a piece of land east of El Dorado and living there for 48 years with the exception of a short time spent in Coffeyville.
Mrs. Swisher was born on June 9, 1851, at Detroit, Mich. She was married to J. H. Swisher on December 24, 1874 at Brighton, Iowa, and they moved to Kansas in 1876. She is survived by her husband and six children: B. L. Swisher, El Dorado; A. R. Swisher, Piedmont; Mrs. Bert McCullough, Marion, Mrs. John Franklin, Council Grove, Mrs. Walter Lukins, Oil Hill, Mrs. Russell Jay, Kansas City, Mo.; sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
For the past 30 years Mrs. Swisher was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She and Mr. Swisher would have celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary next Christmas eve. Mrs. Swisher was a fine Christian type of womanhood and had a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Byrd Brothers Funeral Home. The Rev. C. A. Kitch of the Methodist Church will be in charge of the services. Burial will be in West Cemetery. (Walnut Valley Times, Oct. 7, 1924)
Former El Doradoan Dies in Car Crash
News has been received here of the accidental death at Santa Fe, N.M. yesterday of Bert L. Swisher, Jr., 29, former El Doradoan.
Swisher who was born in El Dorado on May 2, 1921 died in an automobile collision. Deatils of the tragedy were not learned.
Funeral services will be held at Garnett, Kans., Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Mr. Swisher who served six years in the navy, is survived by his widow and a son, both of Albuquerque, N. M., his mother, Mrs. B. L. Swisher, Parson, two sisters, Lavelle Talbott, Garnett, and Mrs. Marvin Nowell, Parsons, and a brother J. H. Swisher, El Dorado. (El Dorado Times, May 10, 1950)

Mrs. Joseph Swisher dies at hospital
Mrs. Joseph (Nannie Edna) Swisher, 69, of 627 West Carr, died Thursday morning at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Mrs. Swisher was born Aug. 18, 1908 at Gas City, the daughter of Fred and Emma Sproul and the family moved to El Dorado in 1912. She was married to Joseph H. Swisher on Nov. 28, 1925, in El Dorado. Her memberships included the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and Women of the Moose.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Leroy K. (Betty Jo) Eaton of 825 South Emporia, and Mrs. Troy K. (Nancy) Riner of Towanda; a sister, Mrs. Elmer P. (Opal) Frazier and a brother, Frank Sproul, both of 700 South Atchison; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, a sister and a brother. (El Dorado Times, Nov. 19, 1977)
Services for Nannie Edna Swisher, 69, of 627 West Carr, who died Thursday, Nov. 17, were held Saturday afternoon at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home with burial in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
James A. Shipley and S. D. H. Seltzer officiated. Garwood Williams was the vocalist, songs were "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset". Mrs. H. W. Bullerdiek was the organist.
Casket bearers were Jack Terry Ward, John Lamb, Bob Hurd, Dave Isom, Von Hummel and Sam Frazier.

Pearl Stevens, 87, of Eureka dies
Pearl (Mrs. Albert C.) Stevens, 87, of Eureka died Tuesday.
Services were to have been held today at the Campbell Funeral Home at Eureka.
Survivors are a son, George Miller of Solomon; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Pratt of El Dorado and Mrs. Ruth Garland of Borger, Tex., and a sister, Mrs. Pauline Parish of Ottawa. (El Dorado Times, November 1976)
