ROSECRANS SERVICES HELD ON WEDNESDAY

Funeral services for Earl G. Rosecrans, 71, of El Dorado and former Augusta resident, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Byrd Funeral home at El Dorado. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns there.

Mr. Rosecrans was found dead in bed at a cabin camp at Hamilton Sunday. He was employed by a pipeline company and was on the job Saturday. Death is believed to be the result of a heart attack.

He is survived by his wife, Tilly; two daughters, Brenda of the home and Violet of Augusta; and two sons, Donnie of the home and Lyle of Augusta. A brother, Ethan, lives in Oklahoma. There are also a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

BLAISDELL, HAROLD A.

Harold A. Blaisdell, 75, of El Dorado, died Monday, March 14, 1994. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 19, 1918, in Belvidere, Neb., the son of Harry and Minnie (Weber) Blaisdell, and lived in the Butler County area all of his life. In 1939, he and Lela Marie Kennedy were married. she died in 1969. In 1974, he and Eleanor Mullins were married in New Iberia, La.

He was a pumper for Texaco for 32 years and retired in 1974. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Illinois

Survivors include: wife, Eleanor; son, Elvin of Birmingham, Mich.; daughter, Deneise King of Winfield; stepsons, Lawrence, Jr., Jim, Stepdaugter, Kandi Smith, all of El Dorado; sister, Doris Gaines of Eureka; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Memorials are to the American Cancer Society.

BLANCO-DIAZ, JULIAN

Julian Blanco-Diaz, 58, of El Dorado, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006 as the result of an automobile accident. Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born June 20, 1948 in LasVilla, Cuba, the son of Jose and Angela Diaz-Nunez Blanco-Suri. He was employed at the El Dorado Middle School.

On July 16, 1987 he married Carla Clayborn in Las Vegas, Nev.

Survivors include: his wife, Carla of the home; sons, Rico Blanco-Diaz and Jose Blanco-Diaz of El Dorado; daughters, Mama and Dayami Blanco-Diaz, both of El Dorado; four brothers including Wilfrado Blanco-Diaz of El Dorado; three sisters; and one granddaughter, Haley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

BRICKLEY, MARY B.

DIES AFTER TAKING OVERDOSE MEDICINE

MRS. CHARLES W. BRICKLEY SUCCUMBED AT HOME HERE YESTERDAY

Mrs. Charles W. Brickley, aged 32 years, died at her home, 416 West Seventh Avenue, about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, from the effects of accidentally taking an overdose of medicine early in the morning. She became violently ill shortly before 10 o'clock, when she was found unconscious and in a convulsion on he bed. Between that hour and the time of her death she suffered 14 convulsions, it was stated this morning.

When a physician was called to the home of Mrs. Brickley immediately after she was found unconcious, she was recovering from the first convulsion. It was believed she would improve, but shortly she became seriously ill a second time. Two physicians worked over the woman for more than three hours, but efforts to save her life were in vain.

Mrs. Brickley had lived in Greenwood and Butler Counties all her life. She was born on September 27, 1891, in Green County. Mr. Brickley is section foreman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company on the McPherson Branch.

The body is in charge of the W.E. Turner & Son Undertaking Company.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brickley is survived by her mother, Mrs. Nancy Morris; three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Call, Mrs. Anna Lawhon and Miss Ellen Morris, all of El Dorado; and two brothers, John W. Morris and W.R. Morris, both of Wichita.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Brickley home. Burial will be made in the West Cemetery.

BROWER, GRACE MAUDE

Grace Maude Brower of McKinney, Texas, and formerly of El Dorado, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the Settlers Ridge Nursing Center in Celina, Texas. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born July 18, 1908, in rural Burns, the daughter of Claude and Ressie (Fowler) Thomas. She attended schools in Burns and graduated from the Burns High School. She was united in marriage to Lyle Brower on June 4, 1928, in Burns. He preceded her in death in June 1976. During World War II she worked at Beech Aircraft. She was the original manager of Peter Pan Ice Cream. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Church Guild.

Survivors include: daughter, Joyce Simmons Thatcher of McKinney, Texas; sister, Claudine Goode of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Edwin Brower; one brother; and four sisters.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church Scholarship Fund. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

BROWN, LAWRENCE WAYNE, JR.

Lawrence W. "Larry" Brown, Jr., 68, of El Dorado, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1993, at St. Joseph Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Carlsons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born March 3, 1925, in El Dorado, to Lawrence Wayne and Gretta A. Roland Brown. He spent all his life in El Dorado except for the time he spent serving in the U.S. Army. He attended Kansas University and operated Brown's Decorating Store. He was the third generation to operate the store. His memberships included the First United Methodist Church, the KU Alumni Association and was a former member of Kiwanis.

He and Caroline Green were married in April, 1954.

Survivors include: wife, Caroline; son, Lawrence Brown III of Denver, Colo.; brother, Robert Brown of Raytown, Mo.; granddaughter, Leah Lenore Brown; one nephew, four nieces.

BROWN, REVA INEZ

Reva Inez Brown, 80, of Ponca City, Okla., and formerly of El Dorado, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at the Via Christi Hospital. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born July 12, 1924, in Dodge County, Georgia, the daughter of Chester and Vera Parker Pitts. She attended schools in Georgia. She met Chester O. Brown when he was stationed in the Army during World War II. They were married Dec. 20, 1949, in Pearson, Ga. They came to Kansas in 1954 and moved to El Dorado in 1974 from Chanute. She retired as manager of the V.F.W.

She loved to play Bingo, read and go fishing. She was a longtime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary which she served as past president and the American Legion.

Survivors include: sons, Charles "Eddie" and his wife Harriett Meeks of Thomaston, Ga., and Danny Kenneth Brown of Milan, Tenn.; daughters, Phyliss and husband Tommie Doughty of Murray, Ky., Peggy Kingston of Ponca City, Okla., and Debbie and husband Mike Chapter of El Dorado; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980.

BRYAN, GERALDINE PHYLLIS

Geraldine Phyllis Bryan, 64, of Mission, Texas, former El Dorado resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1992, in Mission. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Sunset Lawns Cemetery, El Dorado.

She was born in Peabody to Fred and Lola Weatherly Trainer and graduated from the Burns High School. She worked for K-T Oil Company in El Dorado until her retirement. She and her husband moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1983 from El Dorado.

Survivors include: husband, Bud; father, Fred Trainer of Conway, Ark.; brothers, James F. Trainer of French Settlement, La., J.D. Trainer of Galveston, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

BRYAN, MAYME MAY

Mayme May Bryan, 91, of El Dorado, homemaker, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1992, at Friendship Manor. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home with burial following in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. The Rev. Marvin Bower will officiate.

She was born March 19, 1901, in La Harpe, to Peter and Lrilda Breu Percell. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone and moved to El Dorado in 1920. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the church circles and Median E.H.U.

On Jan. 1, 1922, she and Lawrence E. Bryan were married in El Dorado. He preceded her in death Jan. 25, 1979.

Survivors include: sons, Buddy of Mission, Texas, Jim of El Dorado, Larry K. of Topeka; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine-great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Lawrence Creighton Bryan, two brothers and two sisters.

BUCK, JANE CARR

Jane Carr Buck, 74, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Augusta, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1993, at the Fairfield Hospital in Houston. Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born March 21, 1919, in Augusta, to Lisle R. and Vera Grant Carr. Her parents owned and operated the Carr Drug Store in the 1930s which is the present site of Prairie State Bank in Augusta. On June 14, 1941, she and W. Earl Buck were married in Little Rock, Ark.

Survivors include: husband, Earl; sons, Richard E. of Odessa, Texas, Stephen L. of Midland, Texas, David R. of Broken Arrow, Okla.; sister, Doris Turner of El Dorado; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, at Carlson Funeral Home.

CALL, ROBERT DEAN

Robert Dean Call, 76, of El Dorado, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 in El Dorado.

The celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Lawns Cemetery. He was born Aug. 20, 1931 in El Dorado, the son of Joseph Harold and Zona Lula Nearhood Call. He has lived in El Dorado all of his life. He was married to Mary Louise Kunkle in Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in 1993. For more than 40 years, he worked as a machinist for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita retiring in 1991. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church. He had been part of the class of 1950 from El Dorado High School. He formerly was a Boy Scout leader and very active trying to keep softball a sport in El Dorado. He loved to travel, hunt and be with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include: a son, Matthew and his wife Pam Call of El Dorado; one daughter, Shannon and husband Mickey Eckart of Billings, Mont.; and six grandchildren, Kevin Williams, Ashley Call, Kyle Call, Sheridan Brown, Tyr and Piper Eckart.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Richard Call.

CANNON, LENA FRANCES

Lena Frances Cannon, 73, of rural El Dorado, died Friday, June 10, 1994, at her home. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Lena Bell (Kitterman) Calhoon. On April 17, 1938, she and William H. Cannon were married in El Dorado. He died Feb. 1, 1971. She worked at McClelland and T.G.&Y. deparmtnet stores and was a member of the Temple Baptist Church.

Survivors include: daughter, Sharon Shelton of El Dorado; brother, Alfred Calhoon of El Dorado; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles, in 1974, one brother and her parents.

CARPENTER, ETHEL

Ethel Carpenter, 75, of El Dorado, died Thursday morning, Oct. 28, 1993, at Friendship Manor. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Prospect Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Las Animas, Colo., to William H. and Annie A. Zang Thorburn. She was a homemaker and moved to El Dorado in 1950 from Fort Scott. She was a member of the El Dorado Moose Auxiliary and the First Baptist Church.
On April 27, 1935, she and George E. Carpenter were married in Lamar, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1963.
Survivors include daughters, Sheila Jernigan, Janie Daniels, both of El Dorado, Sharon Daniels of Savonburg; brother, John Thorburn of Manhattan; sisters, Ruby Bowen of Girard, Gladys Pulliam of El Dorado; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two daughters and one grandchild. Memorials are to the American Diabetes Association. Carlson Funeral Home has the arrangements.
