CHADWICK, LILLIE MAE

Lillie Mae Chadwick, 80, of Enid, Okla., formerly of El Dorado, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1993, at the Enid, Okla. Regional Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 1, 1913, in Lonoke, Ark., to Duncan Neal and Rosetta Staggs Whitaker McLean. She was a homemaker and had served as a Major in the Salvation Army. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Enid.
On Feb. 28, 1930, she and George William Whitaker were married. She later married Joe Chadwick on June 8, 1953, in Birgingham, Ala. He preceded her in death April 19, 1974. She moved from El Dorado to Enid in 1988.
Survivors include: son, Thomas Whitaker of Enid; daughters, Billie Fitton of Clearwater, Fla., Rita Childs of Arvada, Colo.; stepsons, Alan Chadwick of El Dorado, Joe Chadwick of Oklahoma City; sisters, Ruth Beth, Ann Mouton, both of El Dorado; three brothers, Neal McLean of Cerritos, Calif., Max McLean of Wichita, Floyd McLean of Maples, Texas; several grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles, and a sister, Margaret Highfill.

CHALFANT, LOUISE V.

Louise V. Chalfant, 89, of El Dorado, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 1994. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Justus O'Reilly will officate the services.

She was born April 17, 1905, in Long Beach, Calif., the daughter of William and Laura Epperson, and moved to Leeton, Mo. as a child. On July 27, 1929, she and Carrol A. Chalfant were married and moved to El Dorado.

Her memberships included the First Baptist Church, Andrina Chapter of O.E.S. 93, and she was past president of the Social Order of the Beauceants.

Surivors include: daughter, Mary Haskins of El Dorado; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two husbands, two brothers and two sisters.

Memorials are to the American Heart Association. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home has the arrangements.

CHAPMAN, JULIA J.

Julia J. Chapman, 82, of El Dorado, formerly of Wichita, died Sunday morning, July 19, 1992, at Newton Medical Center. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church with burial following in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born July 19, 1910, in Lexington, Ky., to James and Lena Reed Perkins. She attended school in Ponca City and Enid, Okla. and the El Dorado Junior College. In 1943, she moved to Wichita where she and her husband operated the Chapman Color Center. She had also worked for Boeing Aircraft where she was the first woman to work in 1942. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wichita, a volunteer in the Wichita School System for which she received a Good Apple Award, and she worked with the sign language program as a teacher.

On June 28, 1924, she and William Irvan Barney were married in Newkirk, Okla. He preceded her in death in December, 1938. On Nov. 26, 1949, she and Clark Chapman were married in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1985.

Survivors include: son, Edwin Leon Barney of Richmond, Va., daughters, Lena Marie Waltman of El Dorado, Helen June Beckman of Newton; stepdaughter, Mary Ann Fridono of Mount Horeb, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Memorials have been established with First Christian Church and Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders. Carlson Funeral Home has the arrangements.

CHARLES, RONALD DEAN

Ronald Dean Charles, 37, of rural Leon, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1992, at his home. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Pastor Rick Harmes will officiate the services.

He was born Oct. 19, 1955, in El Dorado, to Keith and Rosalia Penne Charles. He was a carpenter and scaffold builder and spent all of his life in the El Dorado area. He was a member of the Carpenters Union in Wichita.

Survivors include: son, Chad of El Dorado; father, Keith of El Dorado; brothers, Bob of Valley Center, Randy of Laurel, Mont.; sisters, Lue Asmussen, Lolita Rudicile, both of El Dorado, Lois Watson of Pratt. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Memorials are to Hospice and the Wildlife Center at the El Dorado Honor Camp. Carlson Funeral Home has the arrangements.

CHILES, LARRY V.

Larry V. Chiles, 48, of El Dorado, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 1994. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 5, 1946, in Texas, the son of Cecil and Dorothy Chiles, and served the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He moved to El Dorado from Burns in 1986. He was the supervisor at Shannon Drum Service and was a member of Vineyard Christian Fellowship.

Survivors include: sons, Ron of El Dorado, Cody of Wichita; daughter, Debi Cain of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

COSSAIRT, GERALD NEAL

YOUTH DROWNED WHILE SWIMMING

Funeral services over the body of Gerald Neal Cossairt, aged nine years, who was accidentally drowned in a creek at Burbank, Okla., Thursday afternoon, were held late yeterday afternoon at the Byrd Brothers Funeral Home, 200 South Star Street. Rev. C. A. Kitch, pastor of the El Dorado Methodist Church, was in charge. The body was placed in the West Cemetery.

Details of the drowning were made known for the first time when Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Cossairt, parents of the boy, arrived here yesterday afternoon. They were accompanied by their other eight children. One son, Lester Cossairt, lives in El Dorado. The Cossairts returned to their home today.

According to Lester Cossairt this morning, his little brother was swimming with a large number of persons. The boy and some other children of his age were swinging on a rope into the water.

Gerald Neal was drowned about twenty minutes before he was discovered to be missing. His body was found about four feet from the bank of the stream and in about two feet of water.

It is believed the boy was stunned by an accidental blow on the head when he swung on the rope into the water. A large contusion was found on the right side of his head. Little water was removed from his lungs, after working over him for a couple of hours.

JELLISON, JESSE

JESSIE JELLISON DIES AT HOME

Jesse H. Jellison, 78-year-old Butler county native, of Route 1, El Dorado, died at his home Saturday. He was a lifelong farmer and stockman and was active up until the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Dietz Colonial chapel with the Rev. C. M. Nutter of the First United Methodist church officiating.

Mr. Jellison was born May 3, 1892, on the Sluss farm in Prospect township south of El Dorado. He subsequently lived in El Dorado for 16 years, then returned to Prospect township. He was on the school board of Turkey Creek school for a number of years and for 40 years served as a judge on the Prospect township election board.

He was married to Mary Wagner on March 16, 1916, at the home of her parents, Route 2, El Dorado.

Survivors include his widow; one brother Pearl H. Jellison, 431 North High; one niece, Mrs. Gerald R. Fillmore, 1126 North Main. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Elda Louise Jellison.

SMITH, WAYNE

TRUCK HITS TRAIN, WAYNE SMITH KILLED

Wayne Smith, 34, of 728 South Summit, was killed Monday when the truck he was driving struck a Santa Fe train on the U.S. 169 detour about seven miles southwest of Garnett.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kirby Funeral Home chapel. Burial arrangements are pending.

Mr. Smith was born June 5, 1936, at Alva, Okla. He was married April 9, 1964, at Smith Center. He had been a resident here for two years, coming from Wichita. He was a truck driver with Becker and Sons. He was also a veteran of theKorean conflict.

Surviving are his widow, Nila; three daughters, Vickey Jo, Nila Jean and Jody Mae; three sons, David Wayne, Jerry Carl and Brian Lee, all of the home; his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Walters, one sister, Mrs. Lavon Glenn, Ellinwood, and one brother, Jerry Carl Smith, Salina.

KEITH, ESTHRID C.

ESTHRID C. KEITH DIES AT HOSPITAL

Esthrid Charlotte Keith, 59, of 204 South Atchison, died Tuesday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mrs. Keith was born Feb. 16, 1920, at Rye, Colo., the daughter of Jack and Josephine Dalholtz Kierstead. In 1947 she married Leo Keith in Greenwood County. She had lived in El Dorado since 1974, coming here from Trinidd, Colo., where she had lived for 20 years. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Rumsey of Route 2; a brother, John Kierstead of Kansas City, Mo.; a half brother, Fee Bloxson of Monte Vista, Colo.; six half sisters, Mrs. Rosa Van Treese of Olympia, Wash., Mrs. Gladys McCormick of Orland, Calif., Mrs. Myrtle Reagan of Pueblo, Colo., Mrs. Perry (Bernice) Hackler of El Dorado, Mrs. Forrest (Evonn) Teegarden of Longmont, Colo., and Mrs. Lowell (Wanda) Dawe of Luray, and two grandsons, Robert Dean and Michael Steven Rumsey, both of El Dorado.

She was preceded in death by a sister and her parents.

Kirby-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
