Jesse H. Taylor Dies

Jesse H. Taylor died at his home, six miles northwest of Augusta, on the McCormick place, Sunday morning Dec. 12, at 3 o'clock, after an illness of but three days, with appendicitis. He was operated on at 4 o'clock, Saturday afternoon. But the operation was too late to save him, and he died next morning.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church in Augusta this afternoon, Rev. W. W. Enyart conducting the services. The remains were interred in the City cemetery.

Jesse H. Taylor was born in Pittsburg, July 12, 1882. His parents moved to Iowa soon after where his father died. He came to Augusta eleven years ago where he has since resided. He was married to Miss Georgie Holford April 8, 1904. The wife and two children survive him. His mother, Mrs. Geo. W. TAYLOR, THOMAS WILLIAM

Taylor Services Held Wednesday

Thomas William Taylor, 63, died at 8:25 a.m. yesterday in Newton Memorial hospital, Winfield, after an illness of three years. He entered the hospital last Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Dunsford chapel with Rev. B. B. Kinkson, pastor. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Tom Taylor was born September 28, 1884 in Pittsburg. He was married to Una May Patterson March 27, 1909 in El Dorado. Other survivors are the following children--Mrs. Ray Malan, Mrs. Doc Powers, Mrs. Edgar Auernheimer, Mrs. Marvin Miller and G. L. [T. L.] Taylor of Augusta. Half-brothers are Charles and Emerson Clippinger and a sister is Mrs. Harvey Anderson. There are 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

FUNERAL OF BILLY TAYLOR

The Funeral of William Lewis Taylor who died Saturday night at the Augusta hospital, following an operation for appendicitis last Tuesday, were held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Baptist church. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery.

"Billy" Taylor had lived in Augusta ever since he was 2 years old and his untimely death was a shock to a host of warm friends. He had been employed in the post office for the past five years and was known to practically every patron of the local office. The post office was closed this afternoon from 2:15 to 3 o'clock out of respect to Mr. Taylor and to allow his co-workers to attend his funeral.

Mr. Taylor, who was 24 years old, is survived, besides his widow, by two children, his mother, Mrs. George Clippinger, a sister Mrs. Harvey Anderson, one brother Tom Taylor, and two half-brothers Charles Clippinger and Emerson Clippinger. ALVA TETER DIES AT 89; SERVICES TO BE WEDNESDAY

Alva Teter, 89, member of a prominent Butler county family and longtime resident of the El Dorado area, died early this morning at a convalescent home where he had been living the past several years.Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home chapel with Dr. O. Ray Cook, pastor of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vista cemetery.Mr. Teter was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Washington Teter, who came to Butler county as settlers in 1865. They moved for a short time to Portland, Ore, where Mr. Teter was born on Nov. 10, 1870, but returned while he was still an infant to the El Dorado area.They settled in the Little Walnut area and Mr. Teter farmed in that neighborhood and later in Chelsea township. He married Nellie May Kimball on June 18, 1898 in El Dorado. She died on Oct. 1, 1943.He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lucy Hearne, of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; a half brother, Isaac Teter of Tacoma, Wash., and two half-sisters, Mrs. Delia Becker, Carthage, Mo., and Mrs. Josephine Collins of Pocatello, Idaho; and several cousins including Mrs. C. R. Nuttle, 221 South Topeka, Mrs. Rattie T. McCully, 315 North Washington, Mrs. Letha T. Coleman, El Dorado, Mrs. Gladys Teter Spencer, 311 North High, John Teter, 1329 Terrace Drive, Mrs. Robert A. Alva H. "Pete" Teter, 80, of Hesston, died Wednesday evening, June 15, 1994 at Halstead Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Belle Vista cemetery, El Dorado. Rev. Stan Seymour will officiate the services.He was born Sept. 7, 1913, in rural El Dorado, the son of John Jr. and Elsie Faye Bandy Teter. He had lived most of his life in the El Dorado area and had lived the last five years in Hesston. He was a farmer and rancher and a former member of the Elks Lodge.On Aug. 10, 1940, he and Willene Day were married in Winfield. She died Sept. 20, 1960. On July 28, 1969, he and Rutha Spinden were married in El Dorado.Survivors include: wife Rutha, son, Chalmers Spinden of El Dorado, daughters, Rebecca Demo, Rhonda Fooshee, both of El Dorado, Sharon White, Karen Spinden, both of Hesston, brother, Charles of El Dorado, sister, Cleo Anderson of Douglass, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. TETER, ELIZA

The first funeral services over the body of one of the victims of the motor accident south of DeGraff, Monday afternoon, were held at 4 o'clock this afternoon when tribute was paid by scores of El Doradoans to the late Mrs. Eliza Teter, at 320 South Taylor Street. The services were conducted by Rev. L.T. Faulders and burial was made in Belle Vista Cemetery.Services over the body of Mrs. J.H. Armstrong, the other victim of the crash, will be held at 7 o'clock tonight at the family home, 316 South Taylor Street. Mr. Faulders also will have charge. The body will be taken to Wichita in the morning for burial in Maple Grove Cemetery.(El Dorado Times ~ Friday 15 July 1921)

TETER, JAMES MURLE

James Murle Teter, 79, Eureka, died at Susan B. Allen memorial hospital Friday, May 7, 1993. He was born Jan. 14, 1914, northwest of Eureka on the family ranch, the son of Murle and Gladys (Ewing) Teter. He was lifetime resident of Greenwood county and the Eureka area, attending the Lapland School and graduating from eureka High School, class of 1932. James was united in marriage to Paulyne W. Knox on Sept. 15, 1935 at Eureka.James was a cattleman and rancher and was a member of the National Cattlemen's Association of which he was a charter member from Kansas. He was also a past Director of the Kansas Livestock Association and past President of the Greenwood County Cattelmen's Association. He was a member of the Fall river Watershed Board of Directors, the Kansas Water Resources Board and the Greenwood County Soil Conservation Board. His Masonic affiliations include, Fidelity Lodge #106 A.F. & A.M., Eureka Chapter and Commandry, Wichita Consistory and Scottish Rite Bodies, and Midian Shrine. He was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church.Survivors include: wife, Paulyne, daughters, Linda Hendrickson of Eureka and Sally Monninger of Lawrence, brother, Ewing Teter of Burns; four grandsons.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Funeral services were held at the Christ Lutheran church in Eureka on Monday, May 10, 1993 at 1 p.m. Pastor Mark Gruner officiated. Burial followed in Bella Vista Cemetery in El Dorado with Masonic graveside services conducted by Fidelity Lodge #106 A.F. & A.M.Memorials have been established with the Christ Lutheran Church and Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka. Funeral services for Mrs. A. H. Teter, 41, of Route 3, El dorado, who died Tuesday morning at a Wichita hospital will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dietz-Pittman Funeral Home Chapel.The Rev. Parish, pastor of the Central Christian Church, Wichita.Mrs. Teter was born on March 16, 1919, at Ottawa, Kan. She moved from Ottawa to Tribune, Kan. In 1920, then to Rosalia in 1926, and she came to El Dorado in 1933.She was married to A. H. Teter on August 20,1 940 at Winfield. She was a member of the First Christian church, the Victory Sunday school Class, Seeker's Study Club and El Dorado Boosters Club.Survivors include her husband and two daughters, Rebecca Jane and Rhonda Jeanine, all of the home; her mother, Mrs. Hallie Day, 615 North Taylor, a brother Clayton Day, 506 North Alleghany, four sisters, Mrs. L. E. McKown, Route 4, El Dorado, Mrs. M. g. Morgan, Iola, Kan., Mrs. Paul V. Wilson, Wichita, and Mrs. Vera Lewis, 439 North Orchard. RITES ARE HELD FOR MRS. A. H. TETER

Funeral services for Mrs. A. H. Teter, 41, of Route 3, El Dorado, who died Tuesday morning at Wichita hospital, were held Friday afternoon at the First Christian church. The Rev. Kenneth Garrison, pastor, officiated. He was assisted by Dr. Thomas O. Parish, pastor of the Central Christian Church of Wichita.About 400 persons attended the services and there were more than 150 floral offerings. Casket bearers were Norman Sundgren, Ernest gower, Logan Condell, Ted Holderman, Avery Lucas, Gerald Bennington, Lowell Scribner and Robert McCully.Flower bearers were Mrs. Lowell scribner, Mrs. Ted Holderman, Mrs. Norman Sundgren and Mrs. Avery Lucas. Ushers were Ralph Bennington, Chester McCoy, Howard Cool, Jr., and Roy A. Phillips, Jr. Mrs. John Bertoncino sang "Beyond the Sunset," and Mrs. Amos Marsh played an organ solo medley which included "In the Garden," Sunrise Tomorrow" and "Going Down the Valley.Burial was in Belle Vista cemetery. Services for Nellie L. (Mrs. John) Teter, 87, 1329 Terrace Drive, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Belle Vista Cemetery. She died Thursday evening at Susan B. Allen Memorial hospital.She was born Sept. 19, 1893 at Valene, Ind., the daughter of Thomas and Inez Walton. She came to this area in 1918 and on Dec. 11, 1919 married John Teter. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1961. She was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in the workings of the church.Survivors include a daughter, Alberta (Mrs. J. Walter) Jones, Rogers, Ark., two step-sons, Charles Teter, El Dorado and A. H. "Pete" Teter, Parsons, Kan., a step-daughter, Cleo (Mrs. Joe Anderson), Wichita; one grandchild, John Scott Jones, and one great-grandchild.She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, three brothers and two sisters. End Comes to Beloved Resident Saturday Night, Following Heart Attack Mrs. James W. Teter, aged 71 years and one of Butler County's genuinely beloved pioneer residents, died at 9:30 o'clock Saturday night, succumbing to a heart attack with which she had been stricken at midnight, Friday, collapsing in the bathroom of her home, 201 South Washington Street. Mrs. Teter had been indisposed several days, but did not consider her condition to be in any way serious. When the heart attack occurred, she had the immediate attention of her daughter, Miss Ruth Teter, and her son, James L. Teter, who reside at the home and were attracted by the sound of her fall.Services Tomorrow Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Byrd Funeral Home, with the Rev. John C. Thorns, minister of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vista Cemetery.The pallbearers will be Robert A. Zebold, Jr., Russell Parsons, Charles Teter, Murle Teter, Jr., Robert Teter, James R. Nuttle, Lowell Scribner and Robert McCully.Mrs. Teter's life was the exemplification of all that is finest in womanhood. She had a spontaneous wit, a radiantly gracious presence and a capacity for happiness and for making others happy. The affection that developed between teacher and pupils increased to mutual love when she became the mother instead of teacher. To her stepchildren she tendered the same understanding loyalty and consideration that she gave her own two beloved daughters and son. She was a devoted wife and sister. She and her twin sister, Mrs. Ella Parsons, long ago established the rite of telephoning each other every evening for a brief personal visit, and to say goodnight.Although Mrs. Teter's home and family occupied the greatest share of her time, she was a constant attendant at church services and a leader in activities of the U and I Circle and Missionary Society. She belonged to a study club and was also an active member of the Needlework Guild of America.Butler Countian 67 Years Sadie Miller Teter was born may 6, 1872, at Paxton, Ford County, Ill., the twin daughter of Robert and Katherine (Kyle) Miller, the mother a native of Ireland and the father a native of Scotland. She came with her parents to Butler county in a covered wagon, in 1876, locating in Prospect Township. The father who had been a railway engineer at Jersey City, N.J., bought a quarter-section of land in Prospect Township, which he later sold, buying the farm on Satchell Creek, thirteen miles northeast of El Dorado, near Chelsea, which in later years Mrs. Teter had owned and where her young son, Robert Elden Teter, was accidentally killed by a falling tree, January 17, 1938. Mr. and Mrs. Miller died in El Dorado, Mr. Miller in 1915 and Mrs. Miller in 1918.Mrs. Teter and her sister, Mrs. Ella Parsons, attended El dorado High School and were graduated from the State Teacher's College at Emporia. For twelve years before her marriage, Mrs. Teter taught school - Chelsea School and District No. 94 in Butler County and at Belle Plaine and Guthrie, Okla. At the completion of a school term at Guthrie, she was married on June 28, 1905 to James W. Teter whose death occurred in El Dorado September 29, 1929, at the age of eighty years. The marriage ceremony was read by the Rev. J. K. Miller, a brother of Mrs. Teter. To this union were born three children, Margaret Ruth, Helen Bernice (Mrs. Robert Zebold), and the late Robert Elden Teter.Surviving are her daughters, Miss Ruth Teter, at home and Mrs. Robert Zebold (Helen Teter) of Tillar, Ark.; her step-children, James L. Teter of the home; John Teter, Mrs. Gladys Teter Spencer, Mrs. Charles R. Nuttle and Mrs. Robert McCully of El Dorado, William and Murle Teter, Sr., of Eureka; and Mrs. Warren Coleman of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Parsons of El Dorado and Mrs. Glick D. Scribner, of Chelsea and three brothers, Allen Miller of Hanston, Robert Miller of Jetmore and the Rev. J. K. Miller of Belle Plaine. (El Dorado Times, July 26, 1943)

Survivors include sons: Bill, Lloyd, both of El Dorado, Don of Wellington, David of Winfield, daughter, Alice Wilson of Winfield, sister Nellie Obenshine of Noel, Mo.; 26 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren. Elizabeth Anne "Betsy" (Kennedy) Thompson, 83, Augusta, homemaker, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2007.Visitation is 1 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.Graveside service is 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Elmwood Cemetery. Those attending should use the 12th Street entrance.Betsy, born in El Dorado, on Oct. 10, 1923, was the daughter of Ira Bryan and Lula Alice (Bolinger) Kennedy. On Feb. 8, 1941, she married Fred LeVerne Thompson in El Dorado, who preceded her in death in 1995. Betsy was also preceded in death by an infant son Ronnie Thompson, both parents, her step-mother Pearl (Wakefield) Kennedy, and a sister Dorothy Chambers.She is survived by; daughter, Lu Anne Kriebs and her husband Eugene of Omaha, Neb.; granddaughter, Amy Allbaugh and her husband Jeff of Omaha, Neb.; brother, Richard Kennedy and his wife Jane of Albany, Ga.; sister, Frances Lawrence of Augusta; and numerous nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita.Arrangements are under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.
