The United Brethern Church was dedicated Sunday at 11 o’clock. Reverand Ella Tharp of Wichita, preached the sermon. There was a debt of $300.00 hanging over the church when Mrs. Tharp asked everyone to “chip in” to help raise the amount. The hands of the faithful members began to reach down deep and bring out from $5 to $25 and soon the full amount was raised. In the afternoon Rev. Tharp went out to the Summit Church and baptized the following persons: Will D. Pfouts and John Waddle of Burns. (The Burns Citizen – December 13, 1895)
