VAN DOREN, DELLA AMANDA BAKER

Mrs. Della Amanda Baker-Van Doren, 622 N. Topeka, died November 28, 1946. She was born at Franklin County, Ohio January 2, 1882. She had been a resident of El Dorado twenty-seven years. Surviving are her husband, A. O. Van Doren; one son, Howard A. Van Doren of Wichita; two sisters, and one brother.

Services were held at the Arnold-Kirby Funeral Home Monday afternoon, the Rev. Harlie W. Snodgrass of the Christian church officiating. Interment was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. (The El Dorado Times, December 6, 1946 ~ Transcribed by Peggy Luce)

VANCIL, VIVIAN

Vivian Vancil, 96, Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Augusta, passed away on Feb. 24, 2007.

A private, graveside service will take place at a future date, with internment next to her husband at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.

Vivian was born in rural Anderson, Mo., the oldest child of Charles and Della (Slagle) Thrasher. She moved to Augusta after marrying Roy Vancil in 1929. While Roy worked for the Mobile Oil refinery in Augusta, Vivian was a dedicated wife and homemaker and loving mother to her daughters, Nina Lee Vancil and Donna Dee (Vancil) Keller. The family regularly attended the First Baptist Church of Augusta.

Vivian remained in Augusta until 1977, when she and daughter Nina moved to Anderson, Mo. to live closer to her brothers and their families. Due to declining health, she moved to Long Beach, California in 2004 in order for her daughter Donna and son-in-law Paul Keller to care for her.

She is survived by; cherished daughters, Nina and Donna; adored son-in-law Paul; beloved grandchildren, Lee Marley of Augusta, Jeffrey (Linda) Marley of Ferndale, Wash., Lori Keller of Signal Hill, Calif.; great -grandchildren, Jason (Chandra) Marley Bothell, Wash., and Kristine (Shane) Dillon Seattle, Wash. and great- great- grandson Jude.

She was dearly loved and will be missed by; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Joyce Thrasher of Anderson, Mo.; brother, Lloyd Thrasher Anderson, Mo.; sister and brother-in-law, Vickie and JW Simmons of Augusta; sister-in-law, Ona Thrasher of Anderson, Mo, and sister-in-law, Bonnie Vancil of Augusta. She also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces who will miss their sweet Aunt Vivian.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Roy in 1960 and mother, father, twin brother Victor, brothers, Joseph, Jack, Bill, sisters, Nita Walter and Georgia (Jo) Haller, brother-in-law Andrew Vancil, sister-in-law Opal Thrasher and dear cousins, Artie Slagle and Dixie Shannon and best friend Nell Lytton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) Research and Educational Foundation, 1660 L Street NW, Suite 700, Washington D.C., 20036. (Augusta Gazette - March 5, 2007)

VARBLE, JOHN G.

JOHN G. VARBLE DIES LAST EVENING

John G. Varble, aged 60 years, died at 8 o’clock last evening at St. Luke’s Hospital, after an illness of six months’ duration. Mr. Varble was admitted in the hospital on February 22. His home here was at 204 North Gordy Street.

Mr. Varble had been a resident of El Dorado for the past 12 years, having come here from Springfield, Mo. He followed the barbering profession, and had been employed here at Crockett’s Barber shop on West First Avenue. He was well known in El Dorado and his many friends sincerely regret his death.

Mr. Varble was born at Louisville, Ky., on May 24, 1870. While still a youth, he left Louisville and went to Springfield, Mo., where he lived until coming to El Dorado 12 years ago. His marriage to Miss Anna Belle Minor took place at Springfield in 1892. Mrs. Varble died on March 12, 1917.

Two sons and two daughters survive. They are: Mrs. Estell Peterson, Iola; George W. Varble, El Dorado, Harry G. Varble, El Dorado and Mrs. Lillie Pearl Detter, El Dorado. One daughter, Hazel died at the age of four years.

The funeral services will be held at the Byrd Funeral Home at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, with the Rev. A. R. Neese, pastor of the Nazarene Church in charge. Burial will be in the West Cemetery. (The El Dorado Times ~ Saturday, March 21, 1931 ~ Transcribed by Peggy Luce)

VOGELMAN, MRS. FRED

BURNS RESIDENT DIES YESTERDAY

Mrs. Fred Vogelman died yesterday afternoon at her home near Burns after an illness of several years. The Vogelmans are pioneer residents of the Burns community and are well known here. Surviving are Mr. Vogelman, and nine children. George Vogelman, of El Dorado is a brother-in-law.

Funeral services have not been announced yet but will be held either Sunday or Monday, pending the arrival of a daughter from California. (The El Dorado Times ~ Saturday, July 29, 1933 ~ Transcribed by Peggy Luce)
