DAVIS, CHARLES - ANGLETON, ELLIE
Charles Davis and Miss Ellie Angleton were married Wednesday December 21 at 8 o'clock p.m. at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Davis in northeast Plum Grove Township. Rev. Durham of Burns, officiating. James Davis, brother of the groom, acted as best man, and Miss Lizze Hinnen as bridesmaid. After the ceremony the happy couple led the way to the dining room where an elegant supper was served such as Mrs. Davis knows how to prepare. The wedding march was played by Mrs. Pearl Lyon, sister of the groom. The young couple are well and favorably known to the people of this community, and have a great many friends who wish them joy in their journey through life. They will go to housekeeping at once. POFFINBARGER, WARREN - JOSEPH, SADIE
Warren Poffinbarger and Miss Sadie Joseph were married, Wednesday, December 28 at 5 p.m at the court house in Emporia. These young people are well and favorably known in this vicinity where they have a host of friends who will join in wishing them much happiness in their new relation. HALL, CORWIN - AMLONG, MARTHA BELLE
Married, on December 28 at 1 o'clock p.m. Martha Belle, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Amlong to Corwin Hall, only son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hall of Rosalia township, in the presence of about twenty relatives and friends. Rev. Home L. Glecker of the Methodist Church spoke the words which united for life these two excellent young people. The bride was lovely in a beautiful gown of blue wool while the groom wore the customary black. After the ceremony the guests were conducted to the dining room where a four course dinner was served. The bride who has grown to womanhood in this vicinity, born in the home in which she was married, is beautiful in person and mind and possesses the love and admiration of all who know her. She has always been active in church work and will be greatly missed by the Methodist Church and Sunday school of which she is a faithful member. She was indeed a dutiful and loving daughter and sister and a desirable friend. The groom is well and favorably known to our people, is all that is manly and good and worthy of the sweet bride he has won. Mr. and Mrs. Hall will occupy the old Hall homestead in Rosalia township while his father and mother move to their little place near El Dorado. Truly these young people start to life with more than ordinarily bright prospects. May the realities of life be to them all that their fond hearts have pictured and their path be continually strewn with ones without thorns is the wish of White Rose. (Walnut Valley, January 6, 1905)
John Betts Jr. and his bride arrived New Year Eve and were duly serenaded by a few enthusiastic young friends. Miss Edna Dobie of Sigourney, Iowa, was married to John Betts Jr., at Newton, Iowa, December 29. May their united lives never know a cloud. (Walnut Valley Times, January 6, 1905)
MATTHEW, MR. & MRS. E. G.
Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Matthew, of Leon received the congratulations of some 135 relatives and friends on Sunday afternoon as they observed their 60th wedding anniversary.
Hosts for the occasion in the fellowship hall of the Leon United Methodist church included their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Matthew, and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pickrell and the grandchildren.
The reception table covered in white lace, was centered with colorful garden flowers, bells of Ireland and greenery. Mrs. Thelma Winzer of Augusta prepared the decorative anniversary cake which was trimmed with sugar bells, green ribbons and lily of the valley.
Two granddaughters Mrs. Bill (Judy) Bryant of West Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. James (Joyce) Ediger of Salina presided at the reception table.
Mrs.Robert (Norma) Cabeen of Hutchinson also a granddaughter presided at the registry.
Also assisting were three great-granddaughters, Kristine and Michelle Hufman and Jennifer Bryant.
The wedding 60 years ago united Mr. Matthew and the former Marie Drake and Mr. Matthew's sister, Grace Matthew, and Opher McCaffree. The ceremony took place at the rural home of Mr. and Mrs. N. S. Matthew, ten miles south of Leon.
Displayed on a lace covered table holding copper candelabra with bettersweet tapers were the hand-written wedding invitation and pictures of the two bridal couples. Mrs. Matthew's hand-sewn bridal gown and white wedding slippers and a white lace wedding handkerchief made by her mother.
Among many greetings was a congratulatory message from President Richard M. Nixon. Although the couple had specified "no gifts" many remembrances were presented.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bryant and daughters Jennifer, Jill and Jeri Lynn of West Chicago, Ill., traveled the greatest distance to attend.
During morning worship at the church, three months old Jeri Lynn was christened by her great-uncle the Rev. Glen Matthew of Topeka.
Extending greetings by telephone were a nephew, Homer McCaffree of Neosho, Mo., and Elmo Gaskill of Compton, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ediger observed their second wedding anniversary on August 17. (El Dorado Times, September 7, 1975)
WALDORF, MR. AND MRS. BARNEY
An open house reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Barney Waldorf of 610 West Olive on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary, will be held Sunday afternoon June 16 in Leon.
Friends and relatives of the honored couple are extended a warm invitation to call at the Fellowship Hall of the Leon Methodist Church between the hours of 2 and 4 o'clock.
Serving as hosts for the event will be nieces and nephews of Mr. and Mrs. Waldorf.
On June 16, 1918 Miss Edith Fountain and Mr. Waldorf were married by the Rev. Everett W> Freeman in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Fountain.
Mrs. Waldorf who was born in Missouri came to Kansas with her parents in 1906. They lived in the Leon, Turkey Creek and Van Huss communities. At the time of her marriage Mrs. Waldorf was a switchboard operator for Southwestern Telephone company of Leon, a position she held for several years.
Mr. Waldorf son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Waldorf was born and reared in the Van Huss community three miles north of Leon where he continued to live on the home place for many years after marriage. He was engaged in farming and dairy industries until they moved to their farm adjoining El Dorado were they continued in the dairy business.
The couple enjoyed for many years their membership in the former Leon city band which was under the leadership and direction of Morton Marshall. For a time Mr. Waldorf served as a member of the Van Huss school board. In 1946 when ill health formed the Waldorfs to retire, they moved to their present home.
A lover of the soil, Mrs. Waldorf continues to farm on a smaller scale north of El Dorado.

Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Adams of Douglass will observe their Golden Anniversary on August 18.
They were married in the Douglass Methodist Church parsonage by Rev. George Watts on Aug. 18, 1924.
They will not have open house as their son Warren and family of Cambridge, Ohio, could not be with them.

GOLDEN WEDDING OPEN HOUSE
Mr. and Mrs. Frank G. Johnson will observe their golden wedding anniversary on Dec. 22 from 2 to 4 o'clock in the Christian church at Douglass, Kansas.
Frank G. Johnson and the former Iwilda Hoard were married Dec. 21, 1924 at Burden, Kansas. They have resided at Douglass their entire married life.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are the parents of two sons, Garland Johnson of Douglass and Clifford Johnson of Mooreland, Oklahoma. They with their families will host the reception. There are 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend the reception. The couple request that there be no gifts.
